Macbook Pro got spilled on water.
Here what happened,i went to a friends house to party for new year,i use my mac on the table then all the sudden this baby just took a water bottle and fell which cause my mac to be spilled a bit.So it automaticly turn off and i got worried so i tried to dry it off by(maybe wrong move) putting near a heat source not higher than 50 celcius. I also tried tilted it so i can use gravity so water can escape my mac. Now later on to the following day,i open my mac,it did work.So i tried also my window partition that works also. But now theres a problem(no keyboard problem),its the light setting of my mac. What i meant by that is the lights go randomly low and high at a random pace(think of you use low then it goes high and low).I was curious to what did the water touch last night so i went to open my mac(unscrew the lid then look at the inside),there it was ,it touched the motherboard. So now i wonder should i countinue drying the mac, by a new motherboard(im not sure if anyone sells these) or do i have to by another mac.
Problem:random light settting(low and high light setting everytime)
Question:Do i have to countinue do attempt to dry,by another mac or another solution(note that the mac is dry)
Thanks for reading and responding this question.
MBPs like oil do not mix with water. If you are very, very lucky, you may survive this incident, but the odds are against you.
I would suggest that you keep the cover off of the machine, place it in a warm envoronment and direct a fan on it to get all of the moisture out of it. I do not recommend utilizing an outside heat source. If not controlled correctly you may inflict additional damage.
If it works, you have dodged the proverbial bullet. If not, its the repair shop. Do not be surprised if the repair costs are in the price range of a new MBP.
A last gasp measure is to spray nonresidue electronic cleaner on the internals of the MBP and dry it out. No guarantees as to results.
Good luck.
Ciao.

My MacBook Pro got wet and I lost all of my childs photos from the day she was born. Is there anyway I could get these pictures back from my iCloud? I actually care more for getting the photos back than I do my laptop. Please help! Thank
Welcome to the Apple community khnkOliver.
I assume these photos, or at least not all of them weren't in photo stream.
You should be able to recover your photos from a back up. -

my macbook pro got stolen, is there a way to track it down?
Not if you had not already installed and configured software for tracing it. If you hadn't done that before it got stolen, your only option is to report it to the police and let them handle it.

My MacBook pro got stolen last night. I want to report it to Apple
(have made a police report)
How do I go abt it?The Yellow Pages should have the phone of the Police Dept. Being it is not a life threatening situation, calling 911 seems an overkill.
Apple does not have a law enforcement dept. Best you can do, IF you enabled Find My Mac and carry your stuff in a FileVault container, is Remote Wipe it clean to keep your info from the thieves claws and prevent an identity theft as well. -

Sell the Old one... Buy a New one...

My girlfriend's macbook pro got water damage, but her Skype seems to be active..
My girlfriend's Macbook Pro 13' got water damage and seems to have made her computer unusable, this happened three days agol. Since then she decided to not try using her computer to avoid ruining it further. But recently her Skype has been online and is even callable sometimes. Is this an indication of good news? What does this mean?
Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement. -
My MacBook Pro got wet and I need help?
We just had a different air conditioner installed above my computer desk. Even though my MacBook Pro was not on top of the desk it still got wet. It soaked through the desk straight on to the pullout computer shelf onto my laptop. We soaked it in rice for a week. We just pulled it out and nothing. The light on the battery won't even light up. Any suggestions?? Is there somewhere I can go for a miracle fix (I'm in Salt Lake City, UT) or am I totally screwed???
Kristin
<Personal Information Edited by Host>The only thing you can do is take the MBP to an Apple store genius bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider for diagnostics to see what damage the water did. There is nothing more a user can do than you have already tried.
Note: it is not a good idea to publish hardware serial numbers on an open, public forum. -
MacBook Pro- Coffee Spill Repair Estimate
My Machine:
Macbook Pro, 13in, Retina Display, 2014
Yesterday I decided to go on a little coffee date with my computer, and when I say coffee date I really mean I dumped an entire cup of coffee onto my keyboard.
I probably made a lot of dumb decision in trying to dry it out (blow dryer, shaking, etc...) but unfortunately reflexes kicked in rather than mental judgement. I live in an area with no Apple store so I took the computer to an Apple Certified repair store. They took the computer from me and left it to dry overnight. I got a call from them earlier this afternoon and he explained that fixing it through their store would easily equal the cost of a brand new Macbook (but at least it is repairable). He suggested taking it to the Apple store and getting it fixed under one of their "flat rate" repairs. From what I can tell, this will also cost me the amount of the computer (estimate of $1200). What are other peoples experiences with taking your machine to the Apple store after a spill? I've read mixed reviews of some people getting charged an arm and a leg, and others getting off "easier" with a charge of $700-800.
I've also looked into other repair websites. ispillrepair.com seems to cut a good deal but I've read some mixed reviews about the place. Any feedback on other options for repair?
Any (sound) advice would be immensely helpful. I'm a first year masters student and living without a computer really isn't an option nor is paying A LOT of money to get a repair done. Just trying to weigh my options....
Sincerely,
A smart (but dumb) graduate studentI've had a liquid damaged Macbook repaired by this guy. 13" MB cost me $220.
But he is in Canada.

My mabook pro got wet the other night, the battery light still works but my macbook won't turn on and should i just wait for it to completely dry up? Or what should i do to solve this problem?
Just face facts - if water (or any other liquid) reached you logic board or any other electronic components, you're going to be the victim of corrosion.
Eventually, you'll need to have the logic board replaced. There are liquid sensors all over your MBP and the techs can tell if these have been activated. I wouldn't turn the computer on at all - if it were me, I would take it to your local Apple Store/AASP and get an estimate for repair. Rice & other desiccates may 'dry up' the liquid, but it won't undo the damage already done.

my macbook pro 13.3 (OS XLion 10.7.4) is one month old, few days ago it got freezed(hanged) at that time only 2 apps were running google chrome and xcode, i pressed power button (hold it for few seconds) to restrat.
Today when i opened the lid(as my mac was on sleep for last one hour- no apps except finder was running) i saw an error like this "mac encountered an error hold your power button for few seconds to restart......blah blah..something in other languages too", i think some where it used the word "kernel panic".
After restart mac said "your computer restarted because of a reason", below i have copy pasted the reason.
Please suggest me its(this behavior is) okie or should i take it to apple center?, also to note i have never played any game on my mac. Can any body suggest me why this kernel panic happened by seeing the reason below.
Now i am afraid to leave my mac at sleep with unsaved data and that was the exact reason i shifted from windows to mac.

If you didn't install any tracking software on it, then no, you can't track it. Report the loss to the police and to your insurer. The chances that you will ever see the machine again range from nil to negligible. If you're smart, you have backup copies of your documents.

Hi everyone, first sorry for my bad english.
So a few days ago I wet my mid 2009 MacBook pro with coke and thats's when the problems started. the coke spilled on the right side of the notebook where is the hard drive and the optical drive, but I guess it doesnt matter because when I opened it up everything was very messy. First I cleaned everything and waited a couple of days and then booted it up. Everything was ok until I saw the question mark folder ( my HD is dead, im sure) I tried to boot up with another hard drive with windows 7 installed, it started to a point where a mistake was found and it couldnt repair it. I tried to put the original mac os x dvd and hit the option key at start up, the mouse appears but the mac os install disk doesnt. I tried with bootable usb and thw results are the same, long story short my macbook cant regocnize any bootable image..:( I will appreciate any ideas and advices to help to give life again to this macbook. :)
BTW I also tried to start it up without RAM I and thw usual beebs appeared, I thing this kind of a good signYou're simply going to have to bite the bullet and take your MacBook Pro into your local Apple Store/AASP and have them evaluate the damage. Corrosion is going to set in and your Mac will - sooner or later - simply fail.
You may want to see if you have accidental damage on your computer equipment on your renter's/homeowner's insurance. 'Fixing' the problem is going to be expensive - you may want to put the money you'd spend having your machine repaired towards the purchase of a new unit.
