Macbook Pro Graphics Problem?
Hello everyone,
So i have been having this problem recently where my Macbook Pro would flip out and the graphics would lag and go crazy. If i try to drag a window it would leave a trail behind. I was able to take a screen shot of it and you can actually see the problem. This lets me know that it is most likely a software rather than a hardware problem. What can I do about this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.Hello everyone,

MacBook Pro graphics problem on boot
Yesterday my MBP ran out of battery while I was sleeping, so I guess it shut down, or hybernated (whatever). This morning it wouldn't "wake up", so I force shut it down - hold the TURN ON button. However, when I tried to start it again, it never worked. The graphics is all "low res", and I can't see anything. I don't know how to describe this, so I took a few pics of the booting process, and you can see them here:
http://individual.utoronto.ca/baniski/macpix.html
I tried flushing the ram, taking out the battery... nothing helps.
Any ideas?
Thank you
MBP 15.4", 1.83 GHz, 80 GB @ 5200 RPM Mac OS X (10.4.6) Boot Camp - Win XP Pro SP2I just got my laptop from service. They changed the mother board and the invertor (so I was told).
Apparently, the monitor got messed up due to a faulty invertor - that was sending more power to the LCD than it should have. This is now fixed.
As far as the screen closing improperly - they just ignored the problem with explanation that it can't close properly as its only locking in the middle, and its too wide - but I'm taking it back, as most other laptops i've seen close properly.
The overheating is a gone - now it warms up, but its not even close to what it was before.
The processor idle whine - its also better, although not fully gone (its funny that when I boot windows, its fully gone - it was like this before too tho).
Slowness - I don't see any improvement in speed - maybe if I take out the extra gig of ram that I have installed, it will be better than before the service, but right now there's no improvement.
Conclusion - if its faulty, take it to service. They can fix it, it won't cost a penny, and will be done in 3-5 business days. -
My MacBook Pro 15-inch with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processors just failed. Do you guys know if apple still fixes them?
I tried last week. The best I could get was a discount on the repair, but the damage to my logic board by the GPU caused it to no longer boot. The program ended in December last year, but it has been extended in the past.
If you have no other damage you might be able to get a flat rate tier 1 repair if you are in the USA. -

Macbook Pro: can't overclock Nvidia 320M (MPC89) with nvidia-settings
I would like to overclock the graphics on my Macbook Pro 7,1 with Nvidia 320M (MPC89) integrated graphics, using the nvidia-beta 270.30-2 proprietary driver. I know the risks involved. However the usual nvidia commands do not seem to work:
If I set it like this:
$ nvidia-settings --assign "[gpu:0]/GPUOverclockingState=1" --assign="[gpu:0]/GPU3DClockFreqs=550,1200"
Attribute 'GPUOverclockingState' (arch-macbookpro:0[gpu:0]) assigned value 1.
Attribute 'GPU3DClockFreqs' (arch-macbookpro:0[gpu:0]) assigned value 550,1200.
When I then check the settings I see default values again, and not the ones I set:
$ nvidia-settings -q all | grep GPU3D
Attribute 'GPU3DClockFreqs' (arch-macbookpro:0.0): 450,1064.
The valid values for 'GPU3DClockFreqs' are in the ranges 112 - 900, 266 - 1276 (inclusive).
'GPU3DClockFreqs' can use the following target types: X Screen, GPU.
Attribute 'GPU3DClockFreqs' (arch-macbookpro:0[gpu:0]): 450,1064.
The valid values for 'GPU3DClockFreqs' are in the ranges 112 - 900, 266 - 1276 (inclusive).
'GPU3DClockFreqs' can use the following target types: X Screen, GPU.
Are there any other ways to try?Did you activate coolbits in xorg.conf (or 20-nvidia.conf)? Even so, from what I know, overclocking isn't supported on mobile cards.

I install windows 8 in my macbook pro, the problem is it cannot detect wifi connection and bluetooth, because when i click the wireless in settings there are no choices... but when i use the mac os, everything is fine, the wifi, the bluetooth everything is functional, can you help me fix this problem? help will be much appreaciated.. thanks
How did you install Windows? Did you use Bootcamp Assistant or did you use a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox.
If you used Bootcamp Assistant, did you download and install the Windows Support software (drivers) in accordance with the Bootcamp instructions? -

Is there a big difference between Intel Iris Pro graphics and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory, is it worth paying an extra $200?
Software support of graphics card is key. If no graphics card is mentioned in software specs, then it can be ignored. Mostly games and high end image and video graphics software are affected.

Problem in 2011 MacBook Pro graphics (PCIe)
Hi, it's my first post here and I really need some technical help from someone with a similar machine.
I own a MacBook Pro (15-inch, early 2011) and recently decided to reinstall Guild Wars 2 on Windows 8.1 bootcamp. However, I unexpectingly got terrible FPS (7-8 on Lion's Arch!) with latest modded 13.11 catalyst ATI drivers, I used to run the game at a solid 15-25 FPS on the same mac some months ago...
First I tought it was a drivers problem, but even with the old ones I got the same problem... then I tried to run the OSX client, I knew it wasn't perfect last time I tried it but it ran the graphics smoothly from what I remember... still got the same terrible FPS. I opened a ticket to GW2 support and after a few diagnostics and a GPU-z screenshot they responded that the speed the GPU (PCIe) is running at X1 speeds instead of X16... is it supposed to run at 16x? Has something fried on my machine?" He said that some of boards that were made had bad thermal paste in them that over time (usually after the warrantee has run out) hardens/loses its gooeyness. "
From macman.gg:
" the original paste was hard and very spread out, unusual for Apple, will keep you informed"
and to Franzdm - This is a very simple fix and something that someone in your area should be able to do. At least in Florence. (Wished I was there right now!):
So it would appear that the base cause of this could be the thermal paste.
Bad thermal past could cause low heat transfer to the heat sink. Bad thermal paste is not unknown in the electronics industry.
This would cause the graphics chip to run hot causing video anomalies and eventually ball grid array failure which is catastrophic.
So everyone with these symptoms should check out their thermal paste or have it checked out. -
Macbook pro Graphic card failure
I have a Macbook pro 15 inch MB 134 model. I had the classical black screen problem which i taught that it was the NVidia graphic card failure after reading the symptoms on apple support page. However, as usual, the apple authorised service center denied the reason of graphic card and told me that it is a mother board failure and i have to replace the board with a cost of 700 $. It was unbelievable. I went to a computer repair shop who immediately told me that it is due to graphic card failure and he can fix it. Again i spoke to apple and they denied again telling that the shop is not telling the truth. They were able to fix for a reasonable price and told this can happen again in the future and apple is responsible they should replace the board for free of coast. Now my computer is working but same syptoms started recently. It was a huge dissappointment . Such a big company should recall all the models affected whether there is a problem or not. Now i am planning to buy another mac and this keeps me holding and i doubt if something like that can happen in the future again.
If anybody authorised in Apple is reading this post: Please recall all the models produced that year and replace for free. This way you can regain your reputation!!Saber,
This is just a user-to-user forum - no one from Apple here. Sorry to hear about your problems - there have been some issues with some graphic cards in some models of the MacBook Pro and Apple has replaced logic boards for up to four years after date of purchase. I'm not sure if your's was one of those models - you don't specify the date of your model - but it may be worth checking out.
All computers are going to fail out some point and Apple's are no exception. Sometimes they last for a decade, sometimes they're bad right out of the box. In your case Apple was right - the only sure fix for your computer was a logic board replacement, as the 'fix' you had at the other repair shop didn't stand.
Rather than have the logic board replaced now, I would just invest in a new computer, PC or Mac - depends on what you want. The reliability of a good PC is the same as a Mac.
Sorry to hear of your problems...

Retina MacBook Pro sleep problem since 10.9.2
Ever since updating to 10.9.2 earlier in the week my macbook refuses to wake from sleep each morning.
Having looked at the console logs it seems that perhaps the problem is related to it not actually managing to go to sleep properly.
I closed the lid on the computer at about 19:07 as can be seen in the first of these console dumps. I put the laptop in my bag and went home, where the laptop stayed closed in my bag all night. Apparently the computer awoke 70 minutes later. In the morning, back at the office, I left the lid open for a good 5 minutes before deciding to reboot at 9:37, so it seems that the computer was indeed turned off as there was no activity in these minutes.

MacBook Pro Graphic Distort After Upgrading to Lion 10.7.5
Hi,
Recently, I upgraded my mbp which was produced by the end of 2007 (macbook pro 895) with geforce 8600m graphic card, from 10.5.8 to 10.7.5.
I noticed that logic board failure might occur on my mac, however, at least i was fortunate during past 5 years while not that lucky just after ugrading..
My phenomenon is: the screen suddenly distorted and the overall system hung without any response until I power off and restart. I am not sure whether it's just the logic board failure, but I feel that it might have something to do with software as shown in:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20091204-263/graphics-issues-plaguing-os-x- 10.7-lion-upgrades/
Another issue is: it seems the free maintainance announced through http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 seems to be obsolete, isn't it ?Finally resolved...
It's because of the fact that my mbp is too old to be upgraded to lion ...
Although I've seen successful experiences of upgrading mbp 895 (manufactured by the end of 2007) to lion, it's a disaster due to random death halt according to my experiences..
It seems 10.7.4 could be OK since I have met no problems for more than one week, however, when upgrading to 10.7.5, the death halt happened every half an hour, while even if I downgraded to 10.7.4, it doen't help, while when I continuously downgraded to snow leopard 10.6.8, it works normally.
