Macbook Pro Hardware

Hi All,
I was wondering if the Macbook Pro will handle a bigger hard drive than 250GB and also is the graphics card upgradeable?
Thanks In Avance
Kenneth

The graphics card is not upgradeable (apart from going from 128MB to 258MB in the jump from the basic model up to the middle model... this is not something that can be upgraded after your purchase however as it is soldered onto your motherboard).
So far as the hard drive capacity... the MacBook Pro can handle capacities up to whatever is currently available in the market. Note that the hard drive is not considered user replaceable. You risk voiding your warranty for future service if a problem is found that may have been caused by you upgrading your drive. You can, of course, have an authorized service center upgrade the drive for you.

  • Macbook Pro Hardware Warranty = 1 Year.  Maybe not?

The Macbook Pro that I'm currently using is my third Mac. I purchased it in March of 2006 - and I was planning to purchase the AppleCare plan before my 1 year hardware warranty is up. To be sure of the purchase date, I just went to apple.com/support and entered by serial number.
To my surprise, this is what I see:
"Our records indicate that your estimated date of purchase was 26-Mar-06.
Based on this data, your product is not covered for service. However, depending on when or whether you registered your product, if you purchased it from an Apple authorized reseller, or purchased an iPod shuffle from the online Apple Store, the estimated purchase date may be incorrect."
Uh - am I missing something here? Today is 07-Feb-07. I still have over a month before my one year warranty is up -- but that message says that my product isn't covered for service?
What's going on here? I double checked the serial number ... and even tried it a second time, but received the same answer.
    What gives?

Call Apple's Apple Care telephone number. They will be able to straighten this out. It appears there may be a records glitch.
If you have a receipt that indicates that you are within your first year, that is irrefutable.
Apple won't action this from this forum, so it's best to speak to them via telephone.

  • Macbook Pro hardware upgrade limitations ?

I have a Macbook Pro model A1211, 15inch, 2.33Ghz. I am very happy with the performance, but I was wondering what hardware upgrades may be possible in the future, such as the ATI video, audio, HD, etc.
    Regards,
    David Mitchell

Your only upgrades are RAM (user replaceable) and HD (not user replaceable) as well as anything you can stick in the ExpressCard/34 slot.

  • Does Hard drive vibration damage macbook pro hardware?!

i just installed a seagate 750GB 7200 rpm in my macbook pro early 2011 15" and when i just turn on the machine , it start to vibrate under my hands and you can feel it in the back of the display, the whole body of macbook pro is vibrating,! (i just tried the WD scorpio black and vibration the same!)!!! i just know the vibration is some kind of normal for 7200 rpm hard drive , but does it damage to macbook pro in long usage , or not, i mean the hardware , super drive , fans , and everything?!

    No.

  • Macbook pro hardware upgrade

Can I put a larger flash drive and memory in my macbook pro? Do they do it in store???

You cannot install additional RAM in a retina MBP because it is soldered to the logic  board.  However if your MBP is an older retina, additional storage is available.  Examine these two web sites for possible options:
    http://www.transcendusa.com/Apple/jetdrive/

  • How to Find Macbook Pro Hardware Infigurations?

How do i know my Macbook pro has GDDR3 Display memory? or what is my HDD RPM?
Pls Help ASAP. Is there any Web link to see my Macbook pro Warranty status?
I am Very much new in Macbook pro.

To find your warranty status, check https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
To find your hard drive RPM, read the make and model off your System Profiler report in Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info looking under the SATA section of the profiler, and Google the model of the drive. Clicking on graphics should reveal the type of graphics chip used for your display.

  • Disk problem in MacBook Pro (hardware or corrupted files?)

I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8 on a 15" MBP 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3 GB RAM (added 1 to the original setup.)
A few months ago I replaced the original 120 GB hard drive, as it was getting full and making my computer slower. The new one is a 350 GB 5400 rpm Western Digital drive. I did this myself, following the instructions in ifixit.com, as I have done it in the past with other machines, including my wife's MBP, that is working fine.
In the first OS install I used migration assistant and recreated the original user exactly as in the old disk. After a couple of months of use the computer started to get slower and presented permission problems that didn't seem serious (used Disk Utility to check). After a while, there was also a report of problems on disk verification, that at one point couldn't be repaired with Disk Utility. I was able to get rid of the problem for a while using Disk Warrior, but at some point the disk problems appeared again and I had to do a new OS install from zero.
This time I formatted the hard drive writing zeros to correct possible physical errors and did a clean install. Used migration assistant to copy only my user's documents and library. After a couple of weeks of running the laptop without problems, I am having again reports of disk errors that Disk Utility can't repair. Disk Warrior can't access the drive and Tech Tool Pro reports 72 bad sectors.
    My question is:
Is this definitely a hardware problem that will be solved by replacing the hard drive again, or is it possible that this is being the result of some corrupt files on my user's library (as the problem only appears after a while)?

    ign wrote:
Is it normal that the drve appears to be OK after an OS install and that the physical problem only appears after a while?
If you zero it, yes. That's exactly what zeroing does, "mapping" the HD so bad sectors/blocks are not used. But if a HD is dying, more bad areas will show up. It's time to replace the HD.

  • Crashes on MacBook pro, hardware problem?

I write here because I think this might be related to a hardware problem.
I was experiencing problems with my MBP. The main one was that sometimes, an application crashed, and when I tried to switch to another one, it crashed as well, and after all everything crashed, one by one. I tried upgrading to snow leopard, no luck. Fresh install of Snow leopard and migration assistant: no luck. Fresh instal of snow leopard and migration assistant WITHOUT APPS, only my user account, and after I installed just adium, dropbox, and my firewire soundtrack driver, it happened again the same thing (have to say that everything else was smoother in performance) I don't think it has to do with soundcard, because problem was there before I got it. I suspect that is a problem with access to hard drive (apps cannot access it) or maybe with bluetooth (it happenned sometimes that when pairing a bluetooth device, system crashed).
    Any advice?

It's a RAM matter, but I don't know if it's the RAM module or the socket where it's placed. If have 2 modules of 1 GHz. When I try them keeping just one of them, module 1 works fine in both sockets, but in the lower one it eventually crashed, with a video scramble and only the mouse working fine. Module 2 doesn't work at all in the lower socket. First I got a kernel panic, just when booting. Second time and afterwards I couldn't even boot: black screen and the sleep light blinking three times, so it's not a temperature issue (no time enough to heat).
Module 2 it's working (for the moment) fine on the upper socket, and it's what I'm trying now. Do you have any clue to find out if it a socket/motherboard issue or just the RAM module is deffective?

  • No hardware working after I Installed windows 7 on my Macbook pro

    Hello,
I recently installed my macbook pro mid 2012 with windows 7 ultimate edition 64-bit and to my surprise I came to know that the drivers in my macbook are not working. No drivers, be it wifi, lan usb, thunderbolt etc are working and I am just stuck with a OS with no features. Also I am not able to switch back to my OS X mavericks. Don't know why?.
It would be great if I can get some help as the local apple store in my country(India) asks for heavy fees. I know I have a mac, how can I afford a mac if I cannot pay fees etc. As it is, I was gifted this laptop by my aunt on my birthday. So yeah, hope you get it.
Please help me, it would be a great deed.
    Thank you

    Hi Sadtech,
In order to install the Windows drivers for your MacBook Pro hardware, you should follow the steps detailed in this User Guide -
Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf
See step 4 on page 7.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I have tested the cord on other tvs and it works fine. but when I connect to my tv my mbp screen flashes blue once then goes back to the desktop. If I am already plugged in to my tv and change to the source I am plugged into the mbp screen will flash blue twice before going back to the desktop. The tv screen has a moving box that says "no signal". When I am in the "displays" section on my mbp I dont have a "arrangement" tab and when try clicking "gather windows" or "detect displays" nothing changes. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. • No Trackpad / Keyboard on Windows 7 Installation on mid-2014 15" Retina MacBook Pro

    Hello,
Although there is a similar thread regarding this  --  this applies to a newly released mid-2014 15" Retina MacBook Pro and the solution posted in the original thread does not work for this newer model.
I am attempting to install Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a mid-2014 15" Retina MacBook Pro.  (Running Mavericks 10.9.5)  I Have both an original Windows 7 Install DVD and a downloaded ISO file as well.
PLEASE NOTE:  That because I have need for multiple partitions on the SSD drive, I am not able to use Boot Camp Assistant to do the actual install.  I have accomplished this a number of times in the past without any issues during or after the install.  I have an MS-DOS(FAT) partition ready to go.
When I restart from the Windows 7 install DVD I get to the "Choose Language" screen and I have no trackpad or keyboard.  A wired USB Mouse does not work either
I am not able to create an install USB drive for this model because Boot Camp Assistant gets to the "Download the latest Windows support software from Apple" task it gives an error message "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server"  (NOTE: Using Boot Camp Assistant to ONLY "Download the latest Windows support software from Apple" as I get the same error message when attempting to do that.
It is my understanding based on the Apple article   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634  that I need to download the driver software directly from Apple with the link they provide.  I DID successfully download the Windows support software from Apple following the instructions in that article.  However, I am not aware of any way to include that downloaded software when using Boot Camp Assistant to create a USB install drive.
I tried the trick with the USB drive as explained in apple article  http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4599  but even with a freshly formatted MS-DOS(FAT) USB drive in the USB port on the left of the MacBook Pro and the Apple USB Optical Drive plugged into the USB port on the right side of the MacBook Pro, I still have no Trackpad or keyboard when I get to the first screen of the Windows installation.
I spent the last two days searching posts here and in general and only end up more baffled than before . . .
I am as positive as possible that the USB drives I am using are USB 2 and NOT USB 3.  Although I guess that does not matter if I can't use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows installer that includes the Windows drivers for the MacBook Pro Hardware . . .
Some of the posts suggest that the Windows drivers from Apple need to be included on a USB install drive created with Boot Camp Assistant.  That appears to be impossible at the moment if the Software Update Server does not contain them.  I am confused as to why the are available directly from Apple  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1721 but they are not available when using Boot Camp Assistant????
Am I missing something???  Is this just a matter of waiting for Apple to add the necessary drivers to the Software Update server???  (It has only been two months since this MacBook Pro was released)
Has anyone successfully installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a mid-2014 MacBook Pro running Mavericks???
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated . . .
    John

    1. I have tried copying the Keyboard/Trackpad/Mouse drivers to the $WinPEDriver$ directory with mixed success on a 2012 MBP.
    2. My experience is based on a 2013 rMBP. You may be able to use an Apple USB Keypad/Mouse to better success.
    3. See http://www.macworld.com/article/2460820/macbook-pro-mid-2014-review-minor-update -offers-slightly-better-cpu-performance.html for HW differences between the two machines.
    4. If you have access to a 2013 rMBP, I can suggest trying to build the USB on that and working with the USB to see if you can make it install Windows. the rMBP 2014 and rMBP 2013 have the same HW, except some CPU changes. You can also try building the USB at the nearest Apple store, if possible.
    5. There is a section in AutoUnattend.xml, which is supposed to install all drivers in $WinPEDriver$ (see this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2686316 )

  • I Need To Know Some Information About Installing Windows On A Macbook Pro 13

    Hello !
Actually Playing My Favourite Games Is A Problem Because I Can't Find DVD Games (Mac Version) For My Macbook Pro So I Found Out That You Can Install Windows 7 Software On A Mac But I Wanted To Know Some Information Like :
    - I Know That I Can Install It Using Boot Camp But I'll Need A Windows 7 DVD So Is There Some Specialized Version For Mac ? Or I Just Need A Normal Windows 7 DVD For PC ?
    - If I Installed Windows 7, Will I Lose The Mac OS X Lion ? Or I Can Have Both Softwares Together At The Same Time ?
    - If I Installed Windows 7, Will It Have The Same Specifications Of Macbook Pro 13 ? (Ex: 2.4 GHz Processor)
    - If I Installed Windows 7 And I Already Had Mac OS X Lion, Will The Macbook Lag Or It Will Work Properly ?
    - If There's Any More Info That You Know About Installing Windows 7 On A Macbook Pro 13, Please Provide Me With It, Thanks!

This really is a forum about the MacBook Pro hardware.  The best place to ask your questions would be the Windows/BootCamp forum.  Your MacBook Pro 13 has one weakness that's going to make gaming a bad experience.  It has an integrated Intel HD graphics processor, whereas the higher end MacBook Pro's have discrete ATI graphics processors.  But the forum will help you out.

  • Syncing Notes between Iphone 3GS and Macbook Pro

I've read all the forums I can about this, but can't seem to find the answer.
I want to sync my notes between my Iphone 3GS and my Macbook Pro. Right now when I add a note in my Iphone it automatically is added in my mail account in the Macbook.
However, if I add a note in the Macbook, it does not get added to my Iphone.
I'd like it to go both ways. Is this possible?
    Thanks!

The issue is with configuring your iPhone. I personally gave up trying to make it work.
