Macbook Pro has a siren noise when restarting

When I restart my computer and as it starts to boot up, a loud interval siren noise starts and the computer has a blank black screen. The only way for me to stop it is to shut down my computer right away. Any suggestions on what this problem might be, or what I can do to stop the loud siren noise?
Thanks

Disconnect all peripheral devices from the MBP and do some more testing. Does this happen only on a Restart, or does it also happen when you start the machine up after it's been Shut Down?
If it's only on a Restart, shut it down, then run the Apple Hardware Test that you'll find on one of the DVDs that came with the computer.
If you can't start the machine at all without the siren sounding, shut it down and take it in for service ASAP. There won't be any diagnostic testing you can do on it yourself under those circumstances.

Will not show up in safe mode, will not show when started from Windows 7 DVD.
I suspect the Mac update wiped out my PC video drivers but can not think of a way to re-install?
Can see the PC volume from Mac side with files.
I've looked at all the online solutions so far and have tried most of them without success. Please help!

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • Brand new macbook pro has annoying fan noises all the time

I just picked up my macbook pro 13'' with retina display from apple store today, and the first time when I start it, it generates constant annoying noise!  no applications run, nothing, from the moment I push the power button, it just give the noises... very disappointed at macbook pro.... Restart it, same, still gives out constant fan noises.... Even the $300, $400 cheap laptops don't have such problem....

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your Mac may be indexing files from the flash storage, and this may cause that your CPU usage is high. In this case, I recommend you to carry on using your Mac and fans will stop working at maximum speed soon.
Another thing you can try is to reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 The SMC is the part that manages fans speed, and if it is not working correctly, fans may not be working properly.
If the SMC reset does not work and fans carry on working at maximum speed for a long time, return your Mac and get another one.

  • Mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro emits high-frequency noise when engaged for sound

Recently I noticed that when the MacBook Pro activates the sound output device for built-in speakers, a high-pitched whine or noise begins, and does not stop until the card deactivates again.
The sound is not proportional to brightness, hard drive activity, CPU load, or anything else I've been able to try, except for sound output. When I plug in headphones it cuts out when the sound transfers to the headphones (it's on the same slight delay that the sound change is on). This MBP leads a relatively tame life, although it does travel sometimes. I can't figure out what would have started this sound, but I noticed it start within the last month, and I have confirmed that others hear it in the same quiet environment as I hear it in.

Give it two or three more weeks to get below 80% and stay there, then take it to an Apple Store for testing. As long as it's still above 80%, it's going to be considered "within spec," so make sure it's below 80% when you take it in.

  • My Macbook Pro with Remakes funny noise when connected to power supply cable and no other response. The best description of the sound I can give is the buz the computer makes on startup. Sound goes on and off while connected

I am new to the Macbook community. I own this Macbook since 10/2012.
My Macbook Pro 15 with Retina Display suddenly totally stopped responding. No display, no activity on keyboard. When I connect power supply cable, the Mac makes a noise as if it is starting up, but this lasts a second and this sound comes and goes the whole time the power cable is connected.
    Any advice?
    Thanks!

  • My macbook pro makes that ejecting noise when i open it but not every time usually when i ve been away for awhile then take it out of sleep it makes the noise is this normal?

Hi ive had my macbook pro for a week or so and when i open after its been in sleep mode for quite a while it will usually make that ejecting noise. It doesnt make the ejecting noise evreytime i open it just sometimes. Is this normal HELP

    Yes, it's normal.
Apple released a firmware update a couple of years ago that was supposed to stop the drive from making that noise in certain models that were available then, but even the update didn't work all the time. The noise is completely harmless and not indicative of any problem. Just ignore it.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro make a clicking noise when i lift it up.

Hi i just recently got a MacBook Pro. I get this weird clicking noise from the right side of the trackpad. I don't know why its doing this noise but i think its got something to do with the superdrive or cd drive. This only happens when i pick it up or rotate it around on my lap.

Just to clarify... and in case you're not familiar with how hard drives work... There are metal platters in your hard drive that spin at either 5400 or 7200 times per minute (that's either 90 or 120 times per second respectively). There is a little read head that floats less than a papers width above that super fast spinning platter. If you bump your computer while the read/write head is over the platter, there is a chance it can bump into the spinning platter causing permanent damage to it. As a result, hardware manufacturers have developed ways to lock the head when a "sudden motion" is detected in order to reduce the chance of damage. In some cases (like the MacBooks), it is built into the notebook itself... in other cases, the technology is built into the drive. The clicking you hear, as others have indicated, is the sound of the drive head locking... it's a good thing.

  • My MacBook Pro has a white screen when I turn it on

When I start up my MacBook Pro. It just ha a plain white screen and I can also hear a faint beeping (like if you were on a desktop computer holding down a lot of keys on the keyboard) please can someone help me!!??

I can tell you what I did the last time this happened to me:
I made a careful note of my Display settings when my computer started up correctly and everything looked fine
... and, I ensured that the same settings were there the next time I restarted (and it happened that my screen didn't appear to display correctly) I checked these settings. If they had changed, I chose the one that 'worked' for me and it 'set' thereafter. In my case, it was 1280 x 800.
If I were you, I wouldn't shut down my computer too often (just telling you what I do.) I shut down mine only after a week or 10 days so that it can 'clean itself up.'
    Hope this helps.

  • Macbook pro has trouble turning on when battery is fully charged

I have fixed the logic board of my MacBook Pro through Apple service care around a month ago due to liquid damage. It has been working perfectly fine until reccently it has been having problem turning on when battery is fully charged to 100%. The laptop automatically shuts down and is unable to turn on again unless I unplug the charger. It still works perfectly fine when the battery is not 100% and the battery is still able to charge properly.
I still have 90 day warranty for my service repairment but I'm currently on vaccation and will not be back on time. Wondering if anyone had the same situation or solutions to the problem! Thank!

    Thanks for the help!
I have tried SMC and it doesnt seem to respond in any way. I'm not really sure what the PRAM test is.
I've tried calling Apple in the states but it requries me to pay 49 USD in order to get a tech person to talk to me.
I'm currently in Asia and we don't have any Apple Stores, we do have Authorized dealers here but I'm not sure if they will be able so assist me without asking me for service charge. Do you happen to know if there's any contact I would be able to phone without being transfered?
By the time I get back to the states I'm going to be 2 days after the 90 days warranty (August 16th)  and I don't know if I should wait and risk it?

  • Why is my MacBook pro making a beeping noise when I turn it on with no screen showing?

My MacBook pro turned on fine until here was a bunch of numbers showing on the screen and told me to shut it down so I did. When I waited 15 seconds I tried turning it on again and now every time I try to turn it on it makes a beeping sound and won't show a screen. It will just keep beeping until I turn it back off. I have only had it for two weeks so idk what the problem is.

The FINDER HELP section titled 'If you hear beeps when your computer starts up'  suggests that you take your MBP to an Apple Store or an authorized service facility.  The following leads you to an Apple Support article germain to your problem:  https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547.

since upgrading to OS lion, my mac book pro (2010 August) keeps freezing (non responsive, requires restart) when i turn on my mac and the system is trying to open apple mail. while apple mail is attempting to collect new mail, the macbook pro freezes. this happens every 2nd time i try to start up my computer. this only started happening after i upgraded to OS lion. please let me know what I need to do to fix this. being forced to restart every 2nd time i turn on my macbook pro has been very frustrating. not sure if apple mail is also the cause of my macbook pro for being very slow during start-up (on the occasion the computer doesn't freeze).

I am having similar 'freezing' problems with many programs (Mail, Safari, iTunes, etc.). I have done a clean install of Lion instead of an upgrade when it came out. Perhaps something went wrong with my install? I'm thinking about wiping and reinstalling.

  • My 17" macbook pro has started to shut itself down or restart for no reason. Can anyone tell me why?

Today for no apparant reason, my macbook pro has been restarting itself.
Has happened 8 times so far, very frustrating since I keep losing whatever I was working on at the time.
L/top runs windows xp because 2 programs  I use for work ( CAD and Mapinfo ) don't work on Macs.
Anyone got any bright ideas why this is happening.
Annoying for a PC that cost me best part of $4k.

    Try resetting the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

The MagSafe power adaptor LED doesn't appear to indicate the correct activity.

  • My macbook pro 15inch running on maverick when i try to click on wi-fi says no hardware installed please help i need wifi and and under network staus wi-fi is fail and under network airport is not connected can anybody help the wifi icon has a x and does

my macbook pro 15inch running on maverick when i try to click on wi-fi says no hardware installed please help i need wifi and and under network staus wi-fi is fail and under network airport is not connected can anybody help the wifi icon has a x and does not even let me turn it on

Have you attempted to reset the SMC? That would be the first step. Hold the left control, option, shift key and the power button for about 5 seconds and release. Then try to reboot. Might as well reset the PRAM as well. Hold command, option, P, R on start up until the machine restarts. If that doesnt' have any affect we'll have to dig deeper into a potential hardware failure.
If this method doesn't work, check the webcam that will tell the problem is on the iSight & WiFi cable. If your webcam is ok, then it'll be the WiFi card problem. Hope it can help ;-)
