Macbook pro hasnt worked after I installed Yosemite when it first came out

Hello,
Irritated, upset and lost. I have found myself the last week or so feeling those 3 words.
What happened? I downloaded Yosemite the day it came out. (the free upgrade) I didn't think Anything of it. figured just like maverick it was perfectly fine to upgrade seeing as it was in the app store. So, me being a naive and clueless (first time purchasing a mac) I upgraded my MACBOOK PRO - Mid 2012 Edition.
it ran through the update, check to see if my mac could handle it. everything was perfect. life was good.
Day 2- turned on my computer went to do some homework, check emails etc (life of a student). I noticed that my mac was a tad laggy. took long to open my apps, safari etc. I thought maybe turn it back off and re open. NO! that just made it worse. it took around 3-5 minutes to LOG ON after i typed my password. Now i was getting worried.
Day 3- same issue. face red and curse words were being fired. I went online to apple support. found ppl having similar issues. So, cleared my disk, repaired permissions, uninstalled the whole shebang. Cleaned it completely. Like the day i bought her. I installed Mountain lion (took over 12 hours) yea over 12 hours thats when i was wondering what is going on.
Day 4- called support they told me to clean it up and try an "internet install" (cant remember the name) i did it. after all the downloading etc. it worked perfect... or so i thought. 2 days later it went back to the same old laggy issues.
Day 5- sat and cried
day 6- looked at the computer with disgust and anger. searched the internet for help. people having similar issues but not as bad as mine. did what they did still nothing
day 7- buddy took a look at it. computer guy, (why didn't I go to him first. well,he was free on day 7) he has been trying his magic. nothing is working. he has an idea of what apple will be doing.putting my computer on an external hard drive etc... lost me after that. Made an appointment with apple genius bar (also, only day they are free/ no warranty, how convenient that it happens)
can a genius help me!!
its on mountain lion basic version when I bought it.

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.
    Help.

    BB1B2,
The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.
    Sorry,
    Clinton

  • I installed Snow Leopard when it first came out but now my mac says it has os x 10.5.x.  Where did snow leopard go?

I installed Snow Leopard when it first came out but now my mac says it has os x 10.5.x.  Where did snow leopard go?

Hi, after a little more looking, I think your response might lead me to a solution.  It looks like the Snow Leopard install package is on my MacBook Pro hard drive but apparently something isn't right because I'm still running 10.5.  I found something called 10.6 Install Package or something like that and clicked on it.  It asked me where I wanted to install it and I said on the MacBook Pro hard drive in a new folder called Snow Leopard.  It told me the installation was successful.  I then restarted the computer but it is still using 10.5.  Any suggestions on what to do now?

  • Drastic slowdown on Macbook Pro quad core after the mighty Yosemite upgrade.

Is anyone @ Apple recognizing this issue after the Yosemite upgrade.. my laptop went from blazing fast webpage and software use to a slow turtle.. my pentium celeron is running faster than my current Apple laptop.. There should be a warning saying your PC will turn back 20 years by choosing this upgrade .  everything is slow.. it take close to 30 seconds or more to boot up.. come on now I have a SSD.. did not have a problem with Maverick.. Youtube will buffer with 16gb memory.. the wife cuts of random..  all these issues after Yosemite.. what the deal Apple is there a fix or I need to go buy Maverick from the Apple store and re-install?  I done have a back up.. I'll re-install and loose my data , no big deal.. but I refuse to run Yosemite with the power less than celeron laptop..
    Here are my specs:

      2.00 GB Page-outs

    You may need more RAM.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Irda in MacBook Pro not work after 10.5.1 update

    Hello.
I have one problem after i install the update for Leopard 10.5.1. The Irda from the MacBook Pro no respond to the little remote control of my Mac. I check the battery and is good.
    What i must do now?
    Thanks

You need to perform an Archive & Install of Mac OS X followed by reinstalling other updates applied to that system to uninstall the Mac OS X 10.49 update.

  • The volume keys on my MacBook Pro stop working after using headphones.

The volume keys on my MacBook Pro recently stopped controling the volume after I've used headphones. I still have sound; I just can't make the volume increase or decrease. The mute, however, still works just fine. Because I have sound from the intenral speakers I know the computer doesn't think the headphones are still in the jack. A reboot fixes the problem, but as soon as I use headphones the problem starts up again. I want to fix this permanently.
I don't know if this helps but all the other keys (brightness, play/pause, etc) still work. I recently had to reset the PRAM because my computer refused to sleep when the lid was shut. I've checked system preferences and everything seems to be in order.
    Can someone please help!?

I found this advice on another thread after encountering the same problem - I did the reboot and it worked fine and dandy!
I spoke with Applecare to fix my Macbook volume. Apparently there are pins inside the speaker/headphone jack that can get jammed. We fixed mine by doing some sort of reboot:
    Turn off laptop.
Hold down the Option, Command, P, and R keys (all four at once, it's tricky!) and while holding down the four keys, turn on the computer. When you hear the second chime, release the four keys.
This re-set the sound toggle to internal speakers. Now I'm afraid to insert headphones again, but I assume this reboot will work over and over.

  • No Sound, Safari Slow & MacBook Pro Very Slow after upgrading to Yosemite.

    Hi All,
Upgrading to Yosemite has resulted in the following issues with my computer/laptop:
    1. I have lost all sound and the sound options are no longer there after looking in Preferences.
    2. Safari only loads parts of pages and then takes forever to load the rest.
    3. Generally the computer has been slow with processes taking over the CPU and there seems to be a lot of hard memory swaps.
Attached is the EtreCheck.    Any help would be appreciated.   It appears that I also am missing some daemons that are launching.

  • MacBook pro extremely slow after upgrade to Yosemite

after upgrade of MacBook pro to Yosemite everything runs extremely slow. Apps Internet everything. Any fixes for this?  I read email chains back from October.  Anything more current?

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • MacBook Pro locking up after fresh install...

I was givin a MacBook Pro (A1276) at my old job because we had a customer that didn't want to pay for repairs and just was sick of looking at it. So I took it on as a project. Now I'm quite seasoned with PC's and Windows based software, but Mac and OSX I've never had to work on at this level. So I'm lost. This system has a Core2 Duo @ 2.40GHz, 4GB DDR3, 500GB Toshiba HDD, GeForce 320M... anything short of slow. Esspesialy for an operation system that makes better use of it's resources than say, Windows.
Now, originally, it was running so slow, a reinstall of OSX (Mavericks) over the internet via recovery, wasnt even possible. ANY thing you tried to do, would start the system beachballing non-stop. It would just sit like that for hours. After opening the laptop up, reseating ALL visable connections on the mainboard, everything started to work. I was finally able to complete a restore using Mavericks and got it up and running like a hot knife through butter. Now, after about a day or so of use, it starts acting up again. You open ANYTING, and it locks up and starts beachballing again. I've reinstalled OSX 5 times now, same thing each time. Works for a while, then is unuseable. But before I couldnt even do that much. Now I started to think it is the HDD, but it always passes every test I run. I dont know what to try next. The system isnt running hot, and nothing is eating at the CPU. It just, locks up... Someone help me!

  • Macbook pro shutting down after I installed new RAM

I recently installed 8 GB of new RAM (purchased from Best buy). and a few times since I did that (yesterday morning),  my laptop has shut down and a grey screen has popped up with something saying  "Your computer has shut down because of a problem, please wait a few minutes for it to restart"  Or something like that.
I've installed RAM before and this was super easy and quick.  The machine says both RAM sticks are "OK" when I go to the system report.   Yet I cant help but think thats the problem.
Does anyone know what that could be?   The ONLY thing I am a tad unsure of, is the little "pop" or "click" the sticks should make when you put them in.  I don't remember hearing that.
Any ideas?  I really don't want to have to go back to my standard 4 gigs or RAM.
    system specs.
    2.8 C2D Mid 2009 Macbook Pro,

Either your RAM is no good, of poor quality, the wrong specs or it's not installed correctly or it got subjected to static electricity when you put it in.
Best Buy isn't as Mac centric, thus the quality of RAM that Mac's require may not be there.
You should have purchased from Crucial.com or Other World Computing or similar that tests the RAM to make sure it works the first time you put it in, as it costs everyone money to ship bad RAM back and forth.
I put in 16GB a couple of days ago, took five minutes and it works perfectly.
Nothing like top tier RAM for a top of the line machine, especially with all those tiny, easy to lose screws Apple uses.

  • Why is my macbook pro running slow after os x yosemite upgrade

Why is my macbook pro running so slow after os x yosemite upgrade

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The better your description, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What other changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

  • MacBook Pro firmware update after erase & install

    Hi,
I just tried to update from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11 with software update last night and got the error message a lot of people have been experiencing, then, got stuck at the apple logo with the never-ending spinning wheel... well... tried repairing disk, permissions, everything, but didn't work...
Now I reinstalled OS X with the dvd that came with my pro (10.4.6) and I noticed that when I run softwarte update, a specific MacBook Pro firmware update and some battery update didn't show up, does that mean I already have it? because it is firmware, the installation of OS X didn't erase it?
And to all those out there stuck at the boot screen, I'm trying the manual combo update (downloading from apple.com) and will tell if this works (thank god I backed up everything!)

    Good Morning,
To answer your firmware question, yes. Once applied a firmware update is burned into the chip on the device being updated and is not subject to being removed with an operating system, the only way to change that firmware is to update it with something else.
You should be fine that they aren't showing up because, as you said, you already have them. 

  • MacBook Pro i7 crashes after clean install of Mountain Lion

I have a Core i7 MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM. Running MacOS 10.7.4 I was having almost daily crashes. So I did a super clean install of Mountain Lion (reformat hard drive, install fresh copy of Mountain Lion by booting from a USB install drive, update to 10.8.2, bring in user data from Time Machine backup without using Migration Assistant, etc.). Unfortunately the crashes continue - I've had three in the last two days. I've provided the crash log below. The Mac crashed and spontaneously restarted on its own. Does anyone have any idea of what the issue is?
By the way, I looked in ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports and the crash detailed below did not leave a log. Is there someplace else I should be looking for a full crash log following a kernal panic?
    Thanks, Eric

  • Can't get my Macbook Pro to work after I've plugged in the iPhone.

Hey, I plugged my iPhone into my Macbook Pro 13" and the macbook just turned off itself. Now I cant start the mac back up again. I have unplugged the iphone usb. And the magsafe adapter keeps flashing green and orange and I cannot get any life in the Macbook. I've tried pretty much everything and I'm just going to post this in hope to get an answer before i turn it in to the Apple guys.

If the HDD will boot the MBP externally and not when installed inside the MBP, usually indicates a bad internal connection.  Usually a new SATA cable will solve the problem.
I would urge you to contact Apple Customer Support and get replacement installation disks.  They will need to know the serial number of the MBP (which is on the bottom) and there is a charge.
    Ciao.
