MacBook Pro having issues

It appears that my MacBook Pro 10.8.2 is having issues with flash/java. The issues that I am having are;
- YouTube videos won't load or very rarely will
- All of my browsers either refuse to load or will load very slowly (safari, chrome, firefox, opera)
- On an online game (spiral knights) I click on a button to load something else (going to haven/guild hall/joining another user) and it does nothing.
- Went on grooveshark.com and it doesn't load the music search nor the album icons
- I tried to download an antivirus (sophos) and it either timed out, took too long to download a 2.2 mb file or when I did try to download it, I got the message "disk image couldn't be opened - not recognized)
- Tried to get my friend to give me the file through Skype and it is taking ages to download
- Any file type takes too long to download if I am able to get it working
- Have to refresh web pages and try to search again when I am in google to try to get it to work
- it may be affecting Skype calls by losing connection by itself/hanging up Skype calls itself
- Slow startup/shutdown may also be apart of this issue
Writing this on my iPod since my laptop refused to load the apple log in page even when I try to refresh it. I am using cord net and normally my Mac isn't this bad at loading things. Loads pretty well 99% of the time. I have tried disk repair and restarting the computer and the issue is still there. Can anyone help? Thanks.

It sounds as if you're having overall SPEED issues that are probably unrelated to Flash or Java at all.
The first thing that I would address is the slow boot/shutdown time. Take a look at ds store's excellent user tip - Why is my computer slow? It may provide some tips to getting your Mac back on track - if not, also see Mr. store's Step by step to fix your Mac.
You might also just want to check your download/upload speed to see if that's what's causing your Internet connection to flake out - try http://www.speedtest.net/.
Good luck,

  • Macbook Pro Wifi Issue

I incorrectly posted this in the wrong thread this morning.
I'm hopeful you might be able to help me diagnose a problem I'm having. I'll provide as much detail as possible.
I have a first generation MacBook Pro. As of this morning I was running 10.5.6 and up until this week was using a linksys router and a comcast cable modem.
I used to have a great wifi signal throughout the house (always full strength), and around 12-18 months ago noticed the signal would weaken. The best I would get would be minus the top bar on the signal, and usually only if I was directly above or next to the room with the router. There were no new phones or devices added that might adjust the signal. On the other side of the house, I would have no signal at all.
My wife has a nine year old ibook and has no issues connecting through wifi.
When I bring my laptop to her parents' house or to the Apple store, where they use Belkin on N or Airport Extreme, I get a full signal.
I've recently suffered a hard drive failure and had a replacement drive installed. The problem persists despite the software update.
Not knowing if it was a router issue or an airport card issue or a combination thereof, I went to the Genius Bar. The genius recommended I upgrade my router to Airport Extreme, and if that doesn't work to return it and he'd focus on the airport card or antenna. I could get the flat rate repair (no AppleCare at this point) for $320+ to repair the problem if Extreme didn't work.
I installed the Airport Extreme router and got a full signal in the basement, far side of the house, upstairs - everywhere. Until around 10pm. The signal died from the basement. If I walked into the room with the Airport Extreme router, I'd get a full signal. If I left the room, I'd get a partial signal. If I walked any distance (10-12 feet), the signal would die. I restarted both the modem and router with no change. I reinstalled the linksys router and got a depreciated connection. I restarted the Airport Extreme again and got a full signal throughout the night, morning, through restarts, and when I returned home from work.
Last evening after using youtube extensively it died again. Linksys would barely work if I switched back, and no matter how many times I restarted I couldn't get the signal to last outside of the area of the router. I left it in the basement overnight shut down, restarted this morning, and had a full signal.
I'm looking for any potential guesses as to what may be causing the problem. I don't want to replace the card if it's the antenna or sink too much cash into a machine if it's a heat related issue linked to Generation 1 syndrome.
During all of this the ten year old ibook works fine. I know a lot of macbook pros have issues with their wireless and don't want to sink in the cash if it's more complex than that. Any advice is much appreciated!

    Hi nashie1002,

Can't install windondows 8.1 on my macbook pro - format issue
    Running latest version of Mavericks.
    Followed the exact bootcamp proceduce.
Have official window 8.1 version on cd.
All goes well until I have to format the 65Gb partition. Disk=0 and partition=4
Can't get over it. Altough I formatted it via a hint found on the internet with "dislpart" in NTFS. Wich also went weel and give the labelname "BOOTCAMP". But still no luck.
    I have two questions:
1/ How to start my mac again in normal mavericks mode?
2/ How can I overcome the windows installation issue?
Tried already a lot of hints found on the internet.

First, make a time machine backup. You will need to erase ands reformat your hard drive. I had the same issue. The issue is that you can't install Windows using bootcamp without having the hard drive formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Do this from disk utility or recovery mode (hold down command and r at startup). Then you have to restore the backup to the hard drive. Then make a usb installer drive with bootcamp and then partition and install. Here's a tip: after you install bootcamp and are in the Windows desktop, go into the installer drive and then go into the bootcamp or support folder, then find a installer that contains the Apple bootcamp drivers. Also, you will need to convert the disk to an iso file. TO MAKE THE USB DRIVE FROM A DISC, USE THIS LINK

A 2008 Mac won't have originally shipped with Lion. You need to install 10.6.8 on the computer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.

  • Macbook pro shutdown issue

Macbook pro shutdown issue when I push the power button it immediately goes into sleep mode

    Hello Marrio22,
Thank you for the question.  With OS X Mavericks, the power button has new functionality:
OS X Mavericks updates the power button behavior on Mac computers.
Using the Power Button to Sleep & Wake
Tap the power button in Mavericks to put your Mac to sleep or to wake it up:
Tap the power button once to put your Mac to sleep.
Tap the power button again to wake your Mac.
Press the power button for less than a half a second to sleep or wake your Mac. This duration is similar to pressing the Space bar or Return key to wake your Mac. The power button works this way across all Macs using OS X Mavericks, including both notebook and desktop computers.
    Accessing the Shut Down Dialog
Press and hold the power button for 1.5 seconds, to bring up additional options:
Forcing the Mac to Turn Off
Hold down the power button for 5 seconds to force the computer to turn off. Important: You may lose unsaved documents if you force the computer to turn off this way. Use this method of turning off your Mac only if it has become unresponsive for an extended period of time. Normally you should shut down the computer by selecting Shut Down from the Apple menu, or from the shut down dialog pictured above.

  • Macbook Pro having many OS issues

Hello, since upgrading to Lion on my Macbook pro I've been having numerous issues related to the operating system. The issues started with the laptop not handling waking from sleep very well. Sometimes there would be a persistent black screen, othertimes the login box would not appear and I'd either have to wait for a while, press various keys, or reclose the screen and reopen it after a few minutes. Then I began to have pretty subpar performance with various applications. This could be anywhere from using very low intensity programs like just safari, pages and iTunes, to just using Photoshop or just using Aperture. My macbook is the second most recent 15'' Macbook Pro (2.66 GHz) with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM... so I don't think it's an insufficient or faulty hardware issue. Now, along with the waking issues and inconsistent performance, I've started to have other interface issues. I will be randomly logged out, my folders on the sidebar of the Finder have dissapeared. I've restarted numerous times and checked for updates consistently. I've been a Mac user for a very long time and have never had any issues with performance like these ones. Reminds me of the few, but cursed times when I have to boot into Windows!

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Macbook Pro Boot Issue, White Screen with Apple

Having a similar issue with my macbook pro. When I press the power button, a white screen appears with an apple icon in the middle and a small cirle on the bottom that is like a timer. I thought that the computer might be downloading something, but I left it on for hours and the computer didn't get out of that mode. I have tried several things such as the installation cd, first aid repair, but both said repairs weren't needed and that the drives were fine. Any suggestions on why the computer is doing this? It's been several days and I shut if off, leave it off for an entire day and when I turn it on, the same screen with the apple appears and nothing else.
    Any ideas are appreciated!
    Thank you!

    Hi Claudiat :
You could try a SMU reset, which may solve your problem,
    from Apple:
    MacBook, MacBook Pro
If the computer is on, turn it off.
Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
Press the Power button to restart the computer.

  • WRT310N v1 and MacBook Pro wireless issues

    Hi all,
I've been having ongoing wireless issues with my WRT310N v1. I have a macbook pro (early 2009) with mac os 10.5.8. I have cable internet, with a DHCP connection. I have a computer and PS3 hardwired through the router, and they work flawlessly. The wireless, however, has never been what it should be. Internet loads slow, even though the connection speed is pretty good (not as fast as hardwired devices, but close).
    Here are the wireless settings:
    wireless config: manual
network mode: mixed (the Macbook can get wireless-n, by iPhone is only g)
    Radio band: standard 20 mhZ
wide channel: 9 (can't change this with this config, unless i go wide channel at 40 mhZ)
    standard channel: 11
    SSID broadcast: enabled
I've got WPA2 security, with AES encryption. I've set the Beacon interval to 75, and left the Fragmentation and RTS thresholds at default. The firewall is activated, and "filter anonymous internet requests" is disabled.I'm wondering if I'm losing so much speed by broadcasting a mixed signal, instead of just G or just N. I've tried transmitting only in Wireless-N, but there's no noticeable change (and the iPhone can't connect at all).
Any input at all would be really appreciated. I'm hoping I don't have to fork over $30 to linksys just to get tech support. Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well its not necessary to power cycle your router everytime whenever you make any changes on your Router. But if you re-configure all the settings on your from scratch, then its better to power cycle your router.

  • Macbook Pro/Silverlight issues

The most recent question & reply I can find in the Community is a year old, so I am asking again.
I have a Macbook Pro running OSX version 10.8.2 (purchased in December of 2012)
I had been watching movies, TV shows, etc. on Netflix for several months with no problem.  Last week while in the middle of a show, a screen popped up stating:
                                                                     Silverlight Installation Problem
                                                        Error code:  2103
I uninstalled & reinstalled as suggested. Quite a few times, actually.  I sent my question to Microsoft Silverlight Support, but did not get a response, of course.  I have read online about others with defiinite issues with Silverlight for Mac.
Last night I tried reinstalling once again, and that time it worked.  I was ecstatic, to say the least.  I have been watching a TV series, and very much wished to continue.  I watched a couple of episodes last night.  This morining I was able to watch a full episode (40 minutes) and most of the next episode.  THEN, the screen went blank, but the audio portion continued to work.
I know I can uninstall/reinstall Silverlight again and hope it fixes the problem.  But is it only a temporary "fix" as it apparently was last night?  I guess I really want to know:
Has anyone actually had any luck in REALLY "fixing" this Microsoft Silverlight/Mac issue?  Or should I just forget about watching Netflix on my Mac?
(Yes, I'm angry, sad and confused).

For all of you that's having this problem don't call microsoft or apple they are way too smart so they can't fix this problem.
    Here's the solution.................
Step 1; Turn your anti virus protection off.
    Step 2: Go to netflix
Step 3: After the movie comes on, turn your protection back on!
Thats it. I fixed many computer using this. You are welcome...

  • MacBook Pro Battery Issue

    Hello,
I am one of the many consumers suffering from the bloating battery issue found in the 17inch MacBook Pro. I have found tons of info on this and people are reporting even the second or third battery having the same issue. That being said, is the issue really with the battery or with the computer? I know they put out a software update that was supposed to fix the problem, does that point to a problem with the computer?
A few apple representive said the battery breaking out of the casing was a safety feature, is there any way harmful chemicals are released when the seal on the component is damaged leaving the battery exposed?

Well I would call back and tell them there are numerous instances where the battery replacement has been honored as part of the exchange/replacement program, especially since it is safety issue.  Get a case number, next time you speak to someone.  And if you don't get a satisfactory result, call back and escalate the call to customer relations.  Until then turn off the computer and don't use it.

  • MacBook Pro charging issue.

    Hello everyone,
I've been having this issue where my MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) refuses to charge. The LED on the magsafe will not show up and the computer doesn't want to take a charge. The first time this happened (2years ago) I took it to Apple, the second time I did both a PRAM and SMC reset. I also tried every single power outlet in my house. Nothing. There was a moment where it the LED on the magsafe went on and charged the computer but only for a minute. Then it stopped working. Can anybody shed light on why this keeps happening? And possibly a fix?

I would bring it to APPLE, as it could be the PSU, mag connector, power input in the machine, logic board, or a number of other things. You have done all the correct resets, seems like some hardware problem.  Bring it in as theydiagnostic for free.   All the best

  • MacBook Pro graphics issue

Just bought a new 15" MacBook pro with lion (2.0 GHz i7, 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive @7200 RPM)  I am having a small problem with the graphics / animations in Lion (spefically entering mission control).  After a fresh startup, the animations seem "choppy" but after I put the computer to sleep and then wake it, everything works fine.  The issue started after I install 10.7.1 but not at the same time.  Does anyone else have this issue or have any insight into what could be causing it?  Thanks!
    -Greg

    Which os do you have?
Solution may be found if you search in the "More Like This" section over in the right column.
If you are still under warranty or have Apple Care, call them and get a case number.

  • MacBook Pro Volume Issue

    Hi, All.
I have a MacBook Pro with a 15" monitor, 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Currently working with OS 10.6.8.
I'm not sure since when, but I'm having this issue:
Even though I turned the volume off, every time I shut down and boot up, or restart, the machine, the volume automatically goes up to about the middle of the indicator. I know it may not be a critical issue, but sometimes I forget about the volume problem, the loud sound makes me jump and it's quite annoying. (Especially in public.)
I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem and if there is a way to solve the problem.
    Any information will be appreciated.
    Best,

Hello, tjk.  Thanks for your reply.
After you told me, I did PRAM resets several times, but unfortunately I'm still having the same volume issue.
I've been doing online researches for while to find the solution for this problem, but I don't see any other people having the same problem. Probably this is a new issue?
    Thanks.

  • MacBook Pro AirPort issue

    Hi,
I have the MacBook Pro model just before the unibody model. I'm having a little problem with my AirPort. Restarting hasn't worked. I can connect to a network successfully, but half the time I won't be able to use the internet. Sometimes it will work, but a lot of the time it won't. This happens for different networks, no particular one. What could be the issue and how do I get it work properly?? Thanks.

I don't that matters, it happens to any modem/router. Even the university ones. Really annoying not to be able to connect easily on campus. But this one here, is a "2WIRE" Bell modem. Don't know which ones the university uses.

  • MacBook Pro LCD Issue

I have an aluminum MacBook Pro 15" with Intel core 2 duo and GeForce 8600M GT.
Starting from this evening, the LCD screen shown for the whole size, many vertical green lines 1 pixel widht. The external monitor connected to the DVI work well, so it seems an LCD issue. Any one experienced same issue and/or can suggest me a solution?
    Thanks in advance
    Claudio

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Since the external works well, it does sound like a display issue, and could be a hardware fault in the display itself. If so, the solution would probably be to replace the display.
If you have access to an Apple Store, it would be worth making an appointment at the genius bar to have a trained professional look at it in person and give you an opinion.
For future reference, you do have the graphics chip which is covered by this program:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
Since the external has good video, you probably don't have that problem now, but keep it in mind if you start having problems on the external as well.
    Good luck!
