Macbook pro heats up and fans go crazy as soon as I plug in charger, SMC reset doesnt help

Hi all, my problem is that my 2011 MBP heats up and fans speed up (a lot) as soon as I plug the charger in. There's no other apparent reason. No heavy CPU usage at all, SMC reset did nothing at all. It only started recently and it goes away as soon as I plug the charger out. Laptop also has an SSD fitted into it. Someone please help, thanks

  • Mac Book Pro heating up and fans working continuously

    Hi,
This is my second Mac Book Pro, the first one "died" because of heating issues and only after an overhaul from the Mac Store, it worked again, but never the same, so I went to the Mac Store to get another one.
I purchased this one on March 2009 and three days ago it started heating up and using the fans constantly, consuming my battery very fast and making the annoying noise these little fans make. Not to mention the heat above the function keys is way beyond normal (normal: not burning your fingers when touching it for a couple of seconds).
Having had a bad heating experience with a previous Mac, I am freaking out now. Any advice on what should I look at before going to a Mac Store?
I don't use any games or very sophisticated software, basically Office, Firefox and iTunes with movies and everything included.
Here are some of my Mac's specs.
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
    Thank you very much indeed,

Well it looks like there's a printer driver that is monopolizing your CPU. Do you have a Lexmark printer that you use? If so, here's a few things to try:
Download the latest print drivers for Lexmark and install them:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL901
Open Print & Fax in System Preferences and delete your Lexmark printer. Then hit the "+" symbol and add the printer back. That will let it install the new drivers.
If that doesn't work, check out the response by "Pitch64" near the bottom of this thread:

  • Macbook Pro heating up and draining battery after yosemite upgrade.

On Friday, I upgraded to Yosemite and I really like it. However my computer keeps heating up very quickly when doing simple tasks and the battery also drains. About 1% every 2 minutes when on Safari and having Pages open in the background. What can I do to slow down the battery drain. Before, on Mavericks I could get a whole day on Safari but now about half a day.

  • Macbook Pro Case, Display and Fan

    Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro now about 5 months.
Step by step i get some problems.
1.) On the left side of the case, were normally my left hand is, i get some kind of "corrosion?"
2.) My left fan make very strange crackling noise, it seems to die soon (its not the usual whining, there are really strange and loud noises (like nut cracking)).
3.) My display supsension is not very stable . That means, while input of text, the display bounces.
4.) The Macbook Pro gets unbelievable hot. Especially left from touchpad, above keyboard and near the display on the left side.
5.) The akkumulator gets very hot too.
These things are a little bit to much to accept.
What can i do? I bought my Macbook Pro in Germany, but living now in moscow. Can i arrange a change here?
    Thank you very much
Mac Book Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi there,
the warranty is world-wide, you can take it in to an Apple centre in moscow and they will repair it for you

  • Does anyones Macbook Pro heat up?

I find that my Macbook Pro heats up and gets hot.
    Is this normal?
Does anyone else find theirs does this?
It's not even a year old

It's normal depending on how hard you're working it.
Do a search for "Activity Monitor," launch the application, and monitor the CPU usage.

  • Has the new Early 2013 Retina Macbook Pro still lag and display issues?

Hello. I've never had a Mac before and I'm thinking of buying the new "early 2013" 15-inch (2.7 Ghz, 16Gb Ram, $2799) Retina Macbook Pro. I live in Argentina but I'm going to NYC in a couple of weeks and I want to get one there. The thing is, that I can not be returning it 2 or 3 times like I read a lot of peple had to, because I'll be coming back home after 2 weeks and here they will only fix it, not replace it for a new one, and that could take months.
So, I want to know if you guys can help me decide if I should go for it or not, if these image retention and burn in and ui lag issues appear to be fixed with this new model or if it is still the same. If I don't buy this one I'll be getting the new Samsung Series 7 Chronos they showed in CES 2013, still not available in the market. Thanks a lot!

I just checked and I have the LG SJA2, too. I didn't notice any Image retention at first, I tested it with the chessboard test for 5 or 6 minutes, it showed no IR. But with 10 minutes I can see a bit of IR. Nothing that can affect the normal use of the computer, I mean I have to put the chessboard for 10 minutes and then change to grey to notice it, but it does exist and is the SJA2 from LG. If it doesn't get worst, I think it doesn't even matter. I just hope it doesn't get worst.
FWIW, I noticed that until I stopped looking at the chessboard before it switched; my eyes had image retention. But  in that awfully long thread on the subject, some have insisted that if it's an LG, it's trouble so I guess there's no guarantee. (BTW, I was writing this when you tried the test again - ocular image retention?)
Not to hijack the thread, but shortly after I posted that "good news" about SJA2, my rMBP simply refused to start at all; it was totally inert. Charging, not charging, SMC reset, nothing helped. Tech support's only solution was bring it in to be fixed.
On a hunch, and remembering something about magnets in the top of the display activating a reed switch in the base, probably near the trackpad, I lifted the front of the Mac about 1/4" inch and let it drop. Bingo! The Mac has operated properly so far. I suspect the reed switch was stuck in the wrong position, and some evidence suggests it was that way out of the box and my fix corrected it.

  • The fan in my Macbook Pro heats up

The fan in my Macbook Pro heats up quite fast.
I wanted to know how much it would cost to get it fixed as I don't have Apple care and my warranty has expired?

Buy an external microphone or a headset. Which type depends on what type Mac you have. The 13" model has a single combo jack, the 15" and 17" models have separate input and output jacks.

  • My macBook Pro heats up so hot and nearly burning my lap

my macBook Pro heats up so hot and nearly burning my lap.  Anything wrong with it?  Should I bring it to Apple store?

Here's a search of cooling pads for MacBooks. I use one that just elevates my MacBook Pro off my lap so air can circulate between my lap and it...... letting the Mac's fan work best. You have to keep the air from being blocked going in and out of it and clothing and blankets interrupt that.
MacBooks tend to heat up if you are taxing it with video games and steaming videos, etc.. Maybe yours is at the age where the battery may be on it's way out. When mine neared the end of it's life it heated up quite a bit raising the temps for the whole machine.
Here's the free Temperature monitor. Maybe it can point to something.

  • Macbook pro 13" june 2009 fan rpm remains at 2000 rpm when temp is 85c

    Hi,
I've just bought a new macbook pro 13 inch and updated software vis software update.
I've noticed that the fan rpm went to 2700 rpm on every boot but
after a few minutes it goes down to 2000 no matter the temperature is
I'm using iStatPro to see the temp and fan
I've tried open youtube videos to raise the temperature to 71 but the fan remains the same at 2000
    Please advise.
    Thank you

    Thank you for the info
I've just tried resetting the SMC but no luck.
since this is my first mac computer so I'm not sure if this is normal or not
after an investigation with different scenarios of work load I found that
    room temp : 27c
    cold boot : cpu 45c
    : fan 2000 / 2700 rpm
    warm boot : cpu 58c
    : fan 2000 / 2700 rpm
    running parallels
    with windows 7
and visual studio : cpu 75c
    : fan 2000 rpm
The fan did kick in to 3500 rpm once the temp is 85c
I'm not sure if this is normal or not since my Dell M1330 xps
which running vista and visual studio shows only
    cpu: 58c
    fan: 3000rpm
    Thank you
I'm not thinking about using SMC fan control to set the default to 3000 rpm
and use it only when I work on Windows but not sure if the program will damage
    my new baby or not
    Thank you

Probably is. They get dusty. Shut down your computer and clean it out with a vacuum (don't blow dust back inside).

Please elaborate on what exactly you mean by it "won't open".
Do you try to launch it and get an error message from the Finder (for example, something like "This application is damaged and cannot be launched....")? Does an icon for the application ever appear in the Dock when you try to launch it? Does it start to launch and then immediately crashes (Finder will display an "unexpectedly quit" dialog)? Or does it start to launch and never seems to "finish" launching (in other words, it basically hangs and is unresponsive)?
If the application crashes, please post the contents of the crash log here.
Otherwise, if the application seems to be hanging, can you, before attempting to launch it, open the Console.app application (it's in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder), and see if anything is reported when you attempt to launch it? If so, please post it here.
