MacBook Pro: How to speed up services?

On my laptop stopped going video signal (I have black screen).I brought the laptop into service ERC (http://www.erc.ua/), located in Ukraine.
I was told there that he falls under http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377, and they took it for repair.
They have been holding it for 1.5 months. And it is unknown when they are going to repair it. They say that they are waiting for parts from Apple.
Where can I find out how long does the Apple need to send spare parts for repairs? Perhaps there are options to change the old laptop to new with surcharge. I cannot wait a year, I need it for work.

Welcome to Apple Discussions
Nobody here can answer your questions or help you get a faster repair or exchange, you can try phoning the Apple contact for your country and speak with somebody from Customer Relations they might be able to speed things up for you.

  • A1212 Macbook Pro Cooling Fan Speed / SMC / Service Battery

    Background:
I've owned my A1212 Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo since launch (Thanksgiving 2006 I believe). For some time now the temperature has been quite warm - more recently my right cooling fan has intermittently sounded like a jet engine and failed to speed beyond 1,500-2,000 rpm intermittently.
    1. I ordered the correct cooling fan for A1212 right and replaced.
    2. When I rebooted Macbook Pro here is what I see for temps in hardware monitor
    AMBIENT TEMP 31C/88F
    CPU A 44C 111F
    CPU CORE 1:36C/97F
    CPU CORE 2:39C/100F
"SMART DISK" — [DOES THIS MEAN THERE IS A SENSOR THAT IS NOT REGISTERING]
The hottest temp recorded is 109F/ CPU A temperature diode
The new cooling fan is majorly cooling the mac much better than prior fan.
    3. I can't find ANY way to stop the mac from running both cooling fans at 6,000rpm
    a) reset SMC (tried holding down power button 20 seconds after disconnecting battery
    b) reboot
    c) remove smcfancontrol
    d) use smcfancontrol
    e) monitor with temp monitor, hardware monitor, istat pro
    f) no runaway processes - not even hot
    4) I notice ( this was also showing up before install of new fan) in my battery icon it indicates "Service Battery" - while I do have a 4 yr old computer there was a recall on batteries so this battery is maybe 3 yrs old and I usually use computer plugged in.
I do not have my snow leopard boot dvd readily available to run hardware test on sensors, however techtool pro does not report any issues. I have not found any terminal commands to force the fan speed down nor any indication I have any apps that are accelerating it.
It appears that my fan speeds are accelerating shortly after power up - before OS X is even loaded completely - and never slow to normal speed except when mac is asleep.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONNECT THE FAN INVERTED (THE TWO PINS) MESSING UP ABILITY TO CONTROL FAN SPEED?
IS IT POSSIBLE THAT I INADVERTENTLY BROKE SOME SENSOR "SMART"?
I am thinking more and more that this is hardware related like a sensor. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, while I don't have a Jet engine I have a very noisy mac

    Hi N,
SMART reports on a number of checks on the HD. I don't believe that's any part of the current issue.
I agree with you that my first inclination is toward a sensor issue; by default, if the sensor's are not reporting properly, the fans run full speed/6000RMP.

  • Macbook Pro: How do I set up a RAID system?

Macbook Pro: How do I set up a RAID system on a MACBOOK PRO properly?
Can I have the OS on the same drives or does it need to be seperate?
I mostly want to do this becuase I am having a lot of problems with the "spinning ball of death" and slow speeds.  I have my RAM maxed out at 6Gigs and my 7200rpm 750GB HD is about half full.
Am I correct in trying to do an external RAID Drive to help with speed?
If yes, what is the best way to do this and which type of connection (USB, Firewire, etc) is best to use?
    Thanks!

  • I want to use my old iMac G3 as second monitor to my MacBook Pro, how?

I want to use my old iMac G3 as second monitor to my MacBook Pro, how?
    Thanks!

You can't really do it in any normal way; that is, using the MacBook's video output port.
    You can use this program
    http://www.screenrecycler.com/home.html
to make your iMac screen act as a second display, over a network connection. ScreenRecycler runs on your MacBook and creates a virtual second display. It uses the open-source VNC (screen sharing) protocol to serve that second display over the local network. You then run a VNC client program (usually free) on the iMac G3 and display the MacBooks virtual second screen in a window, which you can display full screen. Your iMac then appears to be the MacBook's second screen. You use System Preferences Displays pane to set it up, as you would a real second display.
How well this works depends on your iMac's speed, what Mac OS version it runs, and the speed of the network connection. If you connect the two directly with an Ethernet cable (Cat-5 or better), the network speed should be decently fast (at 100Base-T). If your iMac G3 has Tiger (10.4), you can use this program as the VNC client
    http://www.jinx.de/JollysFastVNC.html
(there are free VNC clients for 10.3 and earlier)
However, this solution will never be as fast (in terms of screen refresh rate) as a real display using a real video connection. But you can try it at no cost, to see if it meets your needs.

The cheap & easy way is to just drag the app to the Trash.
    If you want to get all of the associated files use an app deleting app like the free AppCleaner;
    http://www.freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/
Just drag an app and drop it on the AppCleaner icon in the Dock and it will find and present to you all the files it thinks are associated with the app. You can uncheck any that you want to keep and then let AppCleaner Trash the rest.

  • How do i import and sync my icloud / iphone contacts into address book on my macbook pro, how do i import and sync my icloud / iphone contacts into address book on my macbook pro

    HELP
how do i import and sync my icloud / iphone contacts into address book on my macbook pro, how do i import and sync my icloud / iphone contacts into address book on my macbook pro
Runnig 10.6.8 on a MacBook PRO.....

The easiest fix if you're running Snow Leopard is to export all your contacts, then import them into something like google (I already had a gmail account), and then just use google to sync your contacts instead of icloud (via the sync with Google button in the address book settings).
Its a bit sluggish to update, but it works well.  You can then point your iphone, and other iOS devices to use google for contacts too.
If Apple don't want to look after their customers, other companies will gladly do so....

  • Hello, I have mistakenly deleted all partitions on my mac while trying to install windows on my macbook pro, how do i reinstall the mac os back

Hello, I have mistakenly deleted all partitions on my mac while trying to install windows on my macbook pro, how do i reinstall the mac os back. I just wanted to have them both, please help. thank you in advance

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • I'm going to install SSD in my Macbook pro, how do I install for example OSX Lion? I dont have any CD as far as I know.

I'm going to install SSD in my Macbook pro, how do I install for example OSX Lion? I dont have any CD with OSX Lion as far as I know.

Ideally, you should clone your HD as Bimmer 7 Series explains.
However, if your computer originally shipped with Lion or Mountain Lion, a clone is not necessary to merely reinstall OS X. OS X Internet Recovery will create a recovery partition, download the installer package, and install it on a completely empty SSD or HD.
Even if your computer shipped with Snow Leopard, it may be eligible to download a firmware update that creates the same ability: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4904

I bought a new Macbook Pro, how can I get my very old macbook cleared of my stuff so I can give it to my grandson. I just want him to be able to use it.

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window.
Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. You should see your hard drive in the left hand column along with your other drives. Click on the drive and select the Erase tab. Set the format value to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Erase button. After that has finished select the Partition tab. Type in a Name for your hard drive and select how many partitions you want from the Volume Scheme. The usual setting is one partition. Click on the Options button after you've selected a partition to make sure it's set for GUID. Then click the Apply button and after the Partitioning is done quit Disk Utility.
You can now follow the instructions on the install screen

    Yes.

Software updates don't upgrade your current operating system to a new one, you have to purchase a newer operting system if you want one.
If you want iCloud, first you have to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.6 (10.6.8 preferred), then you can download Lion from the app store.
Snow Leopard requirements:  $29 USD from Apple : http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space

Lion general requirements: $29 USD app store.
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
