MacBook Pro i7 with MacBook plastic unibody charger!

Hi,
This is my first post here. Basically I have a brand new mbp i7 2.66 and without realizing the difference I went and charged my machine with my friends mb plastic unibody charger. I just want to know if this will affect my mbp in anyway. I have heard some ppl say that it will damage the battery etc.. I only charged it once so I hope I haven't done any permanent damaged.

No harm done. The MB's 60 watt adapter can't provide enough juice to power your MBP and charge its battery at the same time when it's working moderately hard, and under those circumstances the MBP's battery will actually be drawn down to supplement the limited power available from the adapter. So it's not a good idea to rely on that adapter when you need to use the MBP and charge its battery at the same time. But charging the MBP with it when it isn't in use is OK.
One thing to be cautious about: the MB adapter may get hotter than the MBP's own adapter when used under the same conditions.
You may want to mark the two adapters differently so you don't mix them up by mistake and grab the wrong one as you're rushing out the door sometime when having the right one is important.

  • 2009 late model plastic unibody MacBook cracked & anti-glare glass chipped?

I'm disappointed in my macbook, not in performance, rather quality and Apple's lack of customer service. The front of the case has cracked from normal use, beginning under the case and ending just to the right of my touchpad. I contacted Apple and they said that because it was out of warranty it's not covered. I've searched the web and it sounds like its a common problem. I'm curious if anyone has been able to get an out of warranty repair and wonder why Apple hasn't recalled the obviously defective cases.
Additonally, the anti-glare glass has a tiny, tiny pin hole in it. My MacBook has never been dropped or hit. When I took it in for a repair quote the technician said he had never seen anything like it and didn't understand how it could chip in such a way. He believes the glass probably was defective and contained an air bubble in production. I'm curious if anyone has also had this problem? Again, when mentioned to Apple customer service, no assistance was offered outside paying out of pocket for all repairs.
I really do love my Mac, but had I known I would have had problems with the plastic unibody I would have opted for the MacBook Pro aluminum body.

I don't think you understand the purpose of this forum. If you can't provide HELPFUL support information, don't both responding. Your posts have no value and are simply a waste. I personally don't care if you believe me or not, I'm inquiring if others have had similar issues and is so, if they have had success in getting it fixed and how.
Also, though the design for the 2006 vs the 2009 macbook are different, until they went to aluminum, were made of similar plastic polyurethane. Why did they discontinue the use of plastic polyurethane? Perhaps because of cracking from defective production?
    Thanks.

Do not try to use it.  Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians evaluate it for FREE.

Do you actually mean the white cable with a lightning plug on one end and a USB on other
If so that is not the charger ,that is the cable
The charger is the device that plugs into the mains socket
    If so
cable may be faulty if less than 12 months old take it to Apple Store genius bar for checking

  • Macbook pro-Freezes with black screen at start up.

Macbook pro-Freezes with black screen at start up. I've tried inserting the Mac OS X install disc to run the hardware test(Restart and hold down D), But it still does nothing. Just the black screen. Now I can't get the disc out. I've tried holding down the track pad key upon start up but that doesn't work neither.
What do I do??? Please help.

Remove the battery to find your serial number in the battery bay. Then you can look your MBP up on EveryMac.com:
    http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/
That will give you all the information on your Mac.
This is assuming that you have the MBP with the removable battery and not the unibody. The unibody has different graphic chips.
    Good luck!

  • Why doesn't my Macbook pro come with iPhoto or iMovie? I've already tried

Why doesn't my Macbook pro come with iPhoto or iMovie? I have everything updated to the fullest capacity. Still..nothing..Help me!

If you erase the MacBook Pro and made a clean install, see this document:  OS X: About OS X Recovery  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X
If your computer came with OS X Lion or later and you erase your hard disk and install OS X, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
After installation, start (up) from OS X.
Choose App Store from the Apple menu.
Enter your Apple ID and password when prompted.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.

    Read this link.  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5404
2009 MBP is not supported for native AirPlay Mirroring.  Sorry.
There are a couple of other pay-for apps that do this, but they're not as good... some people have had success.

After some advice, I am new to Apple and looking to purchase either the MacBook Air 13inch with 256GB and 8GB mem or the MacBook Pro 13inch with retina 256Gb and 8GB mem. I am an assistant principal in a primary school and also studying my masters at university. I don't play computer games and I don't watch movies. I do store photos and videos of my kids and music on iTunes. I also like browsing the net with numerous windows open, check email etc. I am really wanting long battery life as I do a lot of my work on the couch - not close to a PowerPoint. Would the air do the trick or will it soon be outdated as Apple move towards retina display? Both air and pro seem very thin  - almost the same? And not much difference in weight either so both very portable which is also a necessary requirement. Just can't help dreaming about that 12 hour claimed battery life. Any helpful advice/opinions, very much appreciated. Thanks

It's not likely that you'll get 12 hours in reql life. Those benchmarks are set under very strict controlled conditions. Kind of like mileage per gallon claims on cars. If 16GB of ram is an option at all I'd highly recommend you get that. As far as storage 256GB isn't alot, consider storing some things on an external thunderbolt real

I have a brand new macbook pro 15" with latest Lion. Can anyone tell me why, when I open word or preview etc that multiple files open? For eg if I open a word doc, the last 1-3 docs that I have worked previously on all open. Can anyone tell me why?

You have a choice as to whether or not applications in Lion like Word or Preview (or even Safari) save and re-open previous documents or windows... just hold down the option key while quitting a program and when you re-open it you won't get the previous documents or windows when you re-open the application. You can see this by selecting the open program in the menu bar and when holding down the option key the quit function will change to quit and discard open windows. This feature in Lion is referred to as "Resume" and is great if you want to restart an app and return to what you're doing (for example in Safari re-opening existing windows and tabs from your previous session). You still have the option to close individual windows within an app before quitting and they will not re-open when the app is launched again.
This Resume function is not related to saving your work (a word or text document for example). This is handled by Lion's "Auto-Save" and "Versions" functions. See http://www.apple.com/ca/macosx/whats-new/auto-save.html
Hopefully this is the complete answer you're looking for.
