MacBook Pro, iMac and MacBook Users Now Get 802.11n Wireless

Another solution for 802.11n connectivity.

Really...
I guess if you want it and can't DIY you will pay.
Yes, but even the DIY version is $149, which I consider ridiculous considering what others have done with the $49 Mac Pro card. I don't expect the QuickerTek solution to void the warranty any less.
Now, if the QuickerTek solution includes the third antenna that's in the C2D MacBook/MacBook Pro, my opinion might change. Details are scant at the moment.
Update: So much for changing my opinion. According to a report on xlr8yourmac.com, the QuickerTek card is the exact same card as the Mac Pro card.

  • After 10.6.8 upgrade, MacBook PRO doesn't acquire IP address via 802.11n wireless connection

After upgrading a MacBook Pro to 10.6.8, the machine connects to an 802.11n wireless access point, but will not acquire an IP address using DHCP.  An iMac running 10.6.7, and an iPad2 both successfully connect and acquire DHCP IP addresses to the same access point.  The access point is an HP Procurve MSM422 access point, a commercial data center level access point.
The MacBook Pro did acquire a connection and IP address when running 10.6.7, so this seems to be a regression introduced with the upgrade to 10.6.8.
The MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 will acquire an 802.11g connection to the same access point without any problems.  The access point has different SSIDs for 802.11n and 802.11g.
Changing the IP settings on the MacBook Pro from DHCP to a fixed IP address doesn't solve the problem.
Just wanted to document this situation for those following problems with migration to 10.6.8.
If anyone uncovers the reason and has a work around for this situation, please share.  I'll keep looking, too.  I plan to do a combo install of 10.6.8 later today to see if this remedies the situation.

Deleting and recreating the AirPort connection doesn't help this problem.  Neither does turning the AirPort on/then off, going from DHCP to FIXED IP addresses, or repairing permissions.  I even upgraded the firmware in the HP MSM422 access point from 5.4.29 to 5.5.1 and that didn't make any difference, either.
Using the combo installer to reinstall 10.6.8 did fix the problem.

  • How can I setup my MacBook Pro, iMac and MacBook Air the same way without doing each separately? Same home page in Safari, same search preferences, etc

Everytime I buy a new device or whipe out a hard drive and do a fresh install, I have to reset everything. All my preferances, Safari Homepage, passwords, etc.
I know about time machine. The problem is that sometimes, I am trying to avoid a problem that is in the Time Machine's backup.
I spend a lot of time setting my preferences for all the software I use. It is a real pain to modify every toolbar, etc

One thing you can try next time is Setup Migration. So, after downloading and reinstalling OS X and after the restart into Setup use Setup Migration to migrate your user account(s), settings, apps and data from a Time Machine back up.

  • For Macbook pro Retina and Macbook Air Users Please Help

    Hi
i Want Ask Macbook pro Retina and Macbook Air Users how use this macs both ( Only how use  both )
we sit many hours on laptop that will hurt our eyes
what the macbook less strain on eyes
what the best macbook screen not hurt our eyes
sorry my english is not good but i hope you understand me
i want only users how use the both of this macs
    thank you

People are different.  Not everyone experiences eye strain with an LED/LCD screen, or with a retina screen or any other kind of screen.  Some people do.
So no one here can possibly say how you will feel using either one - everyone is different.
You need to find some display models or something and try them yourself and see what you like and how you feel using them.  Anything anyone here has experienced is immaterial - all that matters is what you expereince and we cannot predict that for you.
I stare at computer screens all day long, and have done so for many, many years now.  I've never had a problem with matte LCD, glossy LCD (like my MBP), CRT, plasma or page white.  About the only problem I've ever had is occasionally dry eye, since everyone tends to blink less when concentrating on anything backlit for long periods of time.  Simple artificial tears deals with that, and just learning to stagger regular breaks.

my hard drive crashed on my MacBook Pro crashed and I need to get my CS5 up and running on the new hard drive. I get error 6. I would like to get my software up and running on the laptop again please

If you subscribed to iTunes match the songs are kept in icloud. If you didn't but you did save the actual iTunes library folder which should include the music, video, etc.  you should be able to just drag this file back to your machine in the same place and when you open iTunes it will give you a chance to identify the iTunes library folder.
You can test this to find out if you saved the media files or not and don't need to attach your nano to do it.
You are correct that once you connect the nano it will clear the existing files from it and sync it with the new iTunes library.
If you don't have the media files i'm not sure if/how to get them back on a windows ipod.  I have everything backed up regularly because of the horror stories I have seen & heard.

  • HT1270 Used the right memory, both for my iMac and MacBook Pro, iMac worked, MacBook Pro didn't start (warning tone). Any idea?

Used the right memory according to page, both for my iMac and MacBook Pro, iMac worked, MacBook Pro didn't start (warning tone).
    Any idea?

I suggest you buy your memory from OWC or DataMem. Both guarantee the memory works or will replace it if it does not, no questions asked, within their 30 day return period. I've used both for over 20 years, and no complaints.

  • Difference in quality of iSight on Macbook Pro C2D and Macbook Pro Intel

    Hi there
I currently have a MacBook Pro Intel 2.16mhz 17" laptop and I just bought a new MacBook Pro 2.33 C2D laptop. I have noticed that the picture quality of the built in iSight camera of the standard Dual Core is much better than on my new C2D version. The new C2D version seems to have more 'noise' over the whole picture than my standard Dual Core. Does anyone know why this should be?
    Many thanks in advance
    Dan
    MacBook Pro 17" Intel & Macbook Pro 17" C2D   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have just bought my C2D 15,4" 2,16Ghz model and iSight has a very good quality. Compared to the CD model I don't see any difference

  • How do I resize Photoshop - it's too large for my Macbook Pro screen and I can't get to the resize corners?

Photoshop is too large for my Macbook Pro screen.  I cannot access the resize handles - they're off the screen and I can't drag it.  Any solution?

Do you see the red, yellow, and red window buttons? If so click on the green one.
If you don't see them then you are possibly in full screen mode, and pressing the "F" key once or twice allow you to get back to normal mode.

  • POWER CORD DISASTERS FOR MACBOOK PRO'S AND MACBOOKS

What is going on with the power cords and the MacBooks? I have noticed more and more questions about them and now I am mad enough to put my words out there! I have been a faithful Mac user and this is my second. This is, however, not my first problem with their cords. I have been told by a professional that the shafts for the wiring are far too stiff and that is why they keep malfunctioning. This is why many of you have exoposed wiring (very dangerous) and why the wiring is pulling away from both the wall outlet and the plug for the machine. I am now, furious, as I am in the middle of a huge design project and my local dealer (only 1 in a city of 1 million) tells me that Apple is "reconfiguring" the cord and they don't know when it will be available. So where does that leave me or you? I have no power to my MacBook Pro that I spent over $5,000.00 for and no way to get it!! Does anyone out there have any secrets or can you offer any help at all? The next thing you know we will be talking about Apple the way most of us talk about Dell. I mean, c'mon, such a simple problem but not one of the multi-millionaires has done anything to correct it? Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated!!

Broken Keys? Really? On a Macbook? How hard do you type?
I have owned an iBook (5 years), a 17" PowerBook (4 years), a 15" MacBook Pro (3 months), and a 24" iMac (1 year). So far, the ONLY problem I have had is a bad airport card in the MacBook Pro, which apple promptly replaced at no charge.
If you are not getting good service from your apple store, call apple directly. I find they always resolve the problem. If you get an answer you do not like, talk to a supervisor, and keep going up.
My brother-in-law, whom is much younger than I, owned an iBook and severely (and I mean severely) abused it over a two year period. Broke the screen twice (repaired at no charge), shattered the keyboard (replaced, no charge), cracked the case (replaced, no charge), tore the power cord in half (replaced, no charge), and finally, on the next case break, Apple gave him a brand new MacBook at, again, no charge.
As my company provides me with laptops from other manufacturers (HP, Dell), I can say without reserve that the Mac is by far one of the best built machines (maybe not as tough as a Panasonic ToughBook...) on the market today. The problems I have had with my Dell Latitude over the past four months (bad mouse, keyboard, fan, hard drive, in that order) makes my macs all that much more wonderful.
Also, what computer comes with free word processing software, besides perhaps a Linux Box? You pay for it somewhere...

  • What are the differences between MacBook Pro 2008 and MacBook Pro 2012?

AirPlay Mirror in OS X Mountain Lion, allows the user to connect a MacBook Pro to a TV using Apple TV, but only if the MacBook Pro is early 2011 or newer. My MacBook Pro is 2008, 2.5 GHz Core 2 Duo with 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. What am I missing that would allow me to use AirPlay Mirror, and is it possible for me to upgrade my MBP to early 2011 specs?

About four years of hardware change. You csnnot upgrade your hardware. You can simply buy a new computer or find an alternative:
    About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

Thanks to the $15 Beamer, AirPlay streaming is still possible on Macs  that do not support Airplay and mirroring.
Another solution is the Air Parrot.

  • Apple TV 2 choppy video playback when mirroring from Macbook Pro (Yosemite) and Macbook Air (Yosemite) but not iOS devices

Video playback is choppy (cuts out every 30-45 seconds) when air playing from both my MacBook Air 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5 running Yosemite and my husbands new MacBook Pro, but runs perfectly when mirroring from any of our iOS devices (iPhone 6+, iPad mini 3, etc.) We have Apple TV 2. This problem just started a few weeks ago, was working fine around Christmas. The problem seems to have coincidentally started right after our son tried plugging in and setting up his Chromecast on our tv. I disconnected the Chromecast, but we still have the problem. All of our software if up to date and I've tried disconnecting blue tooth, we do not have a microwave and our wifi network has a very strong signal. We have an Airport Extreme base station. Is there a solution to our problem?

    Hi leahmturner,
I see that you are experiencing an issue with choppiness while AirPlay Mirroring from your computers to your Apple TV. I have an article that contains some helpful troubleshooting steps for you regarding this issue:
About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201343
    Optimizing image quality
    Resolution matching modes
You can choose between two desktop resolution matching modes that let you select which display will have the best image. When AirPlay Mirroring is turned on, select an option under "Match Desktop Size To:" in the AirPlay Mirroring menu extra.
Match Desktop Size To: Apple TV
AirPlay Mirroring changes the desktop resolution to best match your Apple TV, resulting in a 16:9 image that fills the HDTV screen. This setting often produces the sharpest image on the HDTV. The aspect ratio and/or resolution of the built-in Mac display may change to accommodate the Apple TV.
Match Desktop Size To: This Mac
AirPlay Mirroring scales the contents of the desktop to fit on the Apple TV, leaving the resolution of your Mac's display unchanged. Use this setting for the sharpest image on your Mac's display. Depending on your Mac model, the resulting image may not fill the HDTV screen.
    Troubleshooting AirPlay Mirroring
If you don't see mirroring options
If your Mac and Apple TV are on the same network, but no AirPlay Mirroring menu appears, your Apple TV may be asleep. Simply press a button on your Apple TV remote to wake it up. After a few seconds, the AirPlay Mirroring menu extra appears. If you still don't see the options you expect, make sure your Apple TV has the current software update installed. Also make sure that you have the "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" option selected in the Displays pane of System Preferences.
If the menu bar or Dock is cropped
Some HDTVs have bezels that cover a small percentage of the screen. This can result in a slight cropping of a full-resolution HDTV image. Depending on the HDTV model, AirPlay Mirroring may automatically adjust the picture size to prevent cropping.  If you are using OS X Mountain Lion or later, and you see cropping of the menu bar or Dock when using AirPlay Mirroring, toggle the Overscan correction option in Displays preferences.
    Minimize video post-processing
HDTVs often apply picture quality enhancements intended to improve the look of film and video sources. In some cases, these enhancements can lead to over-sharpening artifacts when displaying your Mac desktop. Some HDTV models have built-in settings to change or disable the enhancements for use with a computer (computer, presentation, or game modes). Otherwise, the controls for sharpness, detail enhancement and noise reduction can be used to optimize the appearance of the Mac desktop. Consult your HDTV’s manual for guidance on the appropriate settings for use with a computer.
    Firewall security settings
If you use a firewall, make sure the following firewall security options have been set to allow AirPlay Mirroring to work:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu ().
Click Security & Privacy, then click Firewall.
Click the lock icon to unlock it if it's locked, then type an administrator name and password.
    Click Firewall Options.
Deselect (uncheck) the “Block all incoming connections” checkbox.
Select (check) the “Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections” checkbox.
Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
    Regards,
    Braden

  • Two months Macbook Pro 13 and Macbook Pro Retina 13

If I have bought a 13" Macbook Pro and after one month it comes out the Macbook Pro Retina 13 I couldn't return to have the new one, but shouldn't Apple substitute (after me paying the difference) for the new model?
Is it ethical that the company present as "new" an upgrade of Macbook Pro and then in less than two month announce a groundbreaking new product?

There is no Macbook Pro 13" retina. http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro
You bought a computer based on your needs. Technology always advances so regardless what you bought it won't be long before a newer model is available.
