MacBook Pro iMessage sending from my email account and not my phone number... how do i change this?

Hi i've had my phone and MacBook Pro connected for ages and recently my iMessage on my computer is now sending messages via my email address - how can i stop this? or rather change it back? i've just done the upgrade to Yosemite
thank you
B

No, "My Number" was not listed in my Phone menu, I had to manually type it it.  Is there a way for that number to automatically be listed in that "My Number" spot?  Would that maybe have something to do with my phone number not being listed as an option in the "Send and Receive" spot under messaging???

To identify your iMessages as coming from your phone number go to Settings>Messages>Receive At>Caller ID and select your phone number rather than your email address.  Also, the email can't be removed because this is the email address linked to the Apple ID you are using for iMessage.  If you really want to remove it you have to go to Settings>Messages>Receive At, tap the Apple ID at the top and sign out.

  • After updating my iPhone to iOS7 I no longer receive my imessages to my MacBook Air. Now my Imessage says it's my Apple email name and not my phone number. Does anyone know how to fix this?

If someone could help me out with this that would be great. I updated my iPhone to iOS7 on Wednesday September 18th, 2013. My messages always got sent to my iMessage on the MacBook before without any problems. But, eversince the update I don't get my texts sent to my computer anymore. I actually use the IMessage on my laptop to text sometimes and find it very useful. Anyway, my contact shows up on IMessage now as my email that I use for iCloud as well as my Apple Account. I just find it aggravating when I send a text from iMessage and it comes up as my email account. Is there any way to fix it so that my messages will get sent to my iMessage on my phone as well as the iMessage here on my macbook as well? Please help me. Thank you!

Do you mean when you say its locked to another carrier other then the one im using, that maybe my insurance sent me an iphone thats for a different network for example orange and not mine which is o2?

  • How do I get Messages to stop sending from my email address instead of my phone number?

I've had several people tell me that texts I've sent from my iPhone have been showing up as <myemailadd>@mac.com instead of my phone number. It started doing that under iOS7. I don't want my email address sent with my phone-originated texts. I don't want my email address broadcast to people that shouldn't have it.
So what do I need to change to make sure that phone texts originate from my phone number, home texts show my email address, and both are viewable on both my iPhone and iMac?

I think its fixed. I had to sign iMessages in on my Apple ID, but then deselect my email addresses to make it behave the way it should. Now if I could get iMessage to only send response alerts to the last device I used, instead of late night texts going to every device I own in the house and waking everyone up.
For some reason, the free iCloud address I automatically received (when Apple was trying to force people to leave Mac.com) is "hardwired" into iMessage. People were also getting texts from that address even though I was on my phone. I tried to delete it but iOS tells me I can't. I don't use that address, I won't ever use it, too bad I can't make it go away.

  • When I try to activate my iMessages on my MacBookAir I can only see my email address and not my phone number?

When I open my email app on my iPhone, I see a message that tells me it couldn't connect to the Server, but I can send and receive emails with out any trouble.
    WHy is that?

    Hey longboard123,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you are having two separate issues:
First, regarding your phone number in iMessage for OS X, see this article:
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage

  • I want to switch my emails back to my email provider and not use thunderbird. How do I do this?

I need to be able to access my email on my iPhone. I doesn't seem like this is an option when using thunderbird. Therefore, I need to switch my emails back to my original email provider.
I would like to know how to do that.
Or if you have a solution for checking my thunderbird account via my iPhone, I would be happy to do that. I looked for a thunderbird app for the iPhone but couldn't find one.
    thank you

Is your mail account set up as as POP account?
When you set up Thunderbird to access your mail using the POP protocol, it has an option to keep mail on the server for access though other clients or to remove it (either immediately or after a period of time).
''To stop the damage:'' You can change this setting on your account within Thunderbird. In Account Settings (app menu button or classic Tools menu), check Server Settings.
''To restore the removed messages:'' POP is a one-way protocol, so there isn't a way within Thunderbird to upload the mail back to the server without setting up a different kind of connection.
If your mail service allows an IMAP connection, that would create a new set of folders in Thunderbird, and by copying messages into the Inbox in Thunderbird you could sync them back to the server. (Not sure whether the dates will be 100% preserved in the process.)
Volunteers can describe this in more detail if you want to try it.

    help

Wait. It will be in settings>messages>send and receive but it may take a while.
I had the same problem and it took about 20 mimutes for me to be able to check my number. before that it was greyed out so i couldnt check it. Its something to do with the servers being so busy.

  • Send and Receive  in iMessage only shows my AppleID and not my phone number. How do I add the phone number to where I can be reached?

Send and Recieve in iMessage only shows my Apple ID and not my phone number and I can't send nor receive messages from any other phones except iPhones. How do I get my phone number to show up so that I can send and receive SMS text messages and not just iPhone iMessage texts between only other iPhones?

Where is the Start new conversations from??? When I go to Send & Receive, there is no where to add or set to receive at my phone number. There is only a setting to Add Another Email and my Apple Id is already there. No place or way to add a phone number to receive at. I also have a lasting Waiting for activation... under iMessage ON but no place for my phone number although it shows up as My number under Phone.

    Hi all
When I send a text message to another iMessage recipient my text message address comes through as my email address and not my phone number. Why is this and how do I fix it?
    Thanks

I tried that. My phone number shows up in black and won't let me select it. I tried to delete me email and it won't allow me to do that either. Suggestions?

  • My mother used to be the bill payer on my iTunes account so now every time I send an email from my iCloud account it sent with her name, how can I change the settings so emails are sent from myself?

My mother used to be the bill payer on my iTunes account so now every time I send an email from my iCloud account it sent with her name, how can I change the settings so emails are sent from myself?
I've changed the bill payer to myself but it stills says on emails that I sent that its from my mother.

In order for the "From" field to show you options on the "from" addresses available, you must set them up in the Preferences > Accounts first.
I can't show you a screen shot of the from field because I currently only have one account, so the from address used is the default. However, when I had more than one, then options will show up in your compose/reply window.
You'd need to add an account here:

  • When i send imessages they come from the wrong number, how do i change this to my number?

When I send an imessage the receiver see's the number that came with the phone before my number was transfered from old provider. This was also the number that was listed under contacts as "my number". how do I change this?

I had a similar problem when changing SIM cards during a journey to abroad. The new number was accepted, but after changing my SIM that number didn't disappear anymore. I wanted my number to be showed up in iMessage and FaceTime but no chance.
Just to make it clear I'm not talking about the number you are able to change in the settings, I'm talking about the number related within your iMessage and FaceTime settings. I found out that the phone number remains, even if you change your Apple ID or your SIM card.
    Finally that worked for me:
    1. disable SIM PIN and remove your SIM card
    2. remove your Apple ID from the  iMessage and FaceTime settings
    3. restart your phone
    4. insert your SIM card
    5. activate iMessage without your Apple ID (wait a few minutes)
    6. send an iMessage to an iMessage compatible Email account (the phone should now use your actual phone number)
    7. activate your Apple ID within iMessage
    That worked for me.
