MacBook Pro in deep trouble...

Hello! Basically I bought my MacBook Pro 15 inch 2008 late about 3 moths ago from eBay, the seller said that there isn't working trackpad so he give me the apple muse, so I didn't really care about it...but after I get it, the keyboard wasn't working as well, all other things was working. The seller was giving me option to send it back, but because this was my first apple laptop and I always wanted to get a macbook i didn't send it back. So because of that I bought a trackpad and keyboard and give it to my friend to change it(he is a processional in laptop and PC things) He did it, but it didn't fix my problem. After that I went to apple, in apple they said they can't do with it nothing, because it is to old and they can't guaranty that technician could put it back like it was(there was a little slot in the case, but it was fixed in service after) because they don't have parts for it, they said that I need to take it to repair service + they tried to make diagnostic but it failed, so I took it to service and they take it to diagnostics, but because they cannot did it either, they give me back it and now USB ports isn't working as well(I tried reset the SMC and pram settings and it didn't fix the USB ports)+ they said me to take it to apple, but apple said I need to take it to service... Can someone please can suggest me what can I do now? Were can I take it? (The closest apple store is in Birmingham and I am living in Wolverhampton) And + of this all the keyboard is working in BIOS lag but work...I have spend on it like now ~£170 + laptop £420(For me as student it is a lot) and I don't even know what problem it has and if this problem could be fixed...

I feel for you as that is a lot of money.  But you may have missed a good chance to save some pounds when the eBay seller gave you an option to return it.  Is that door closed now?
Also, you contacted three places to repair it: your professional friend, then Apple, then a 'repair service', and you had no luck. That should tell you something.
From Wolverhampton to Birmingham is less than 20 miles per Google Maps.  Take it to Apple (unless it was the same place that told you that MacBook was  too old to fix - something I doubt - a repair person would usually say a unit is not worth the expense of repair).

  • 20 days old Macbook Pro in big trouble!!!!

I have been a PC user since I was born however I had heard very high about the credibility of MAC and really wanted to possess it. I was first exposed to the Apple world with iPhone 4 and was really excited after standing in a long queue in rain to possess it.
I really liked using iPhone and decided to replace all my gadgets with Apple products. I decided to gift my wife with Macbook Pro(Serial No. W803**ATM) on 17th Nov'10. I was very excited to buy another Apple product and even decided to buy an Apple TV, VGA adapter and a beautiful case for my new Mac from Apple Store ( on Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich, Switzerland).
The Macbook Pro was a great experience after using PC. It was very fast and very responsive and I was very proud to gift it to my wife.
Suddenly, one day i.e. 08th Dec'10, I switched on my new Macbook and I observed that the brightness of the screen is automatically getting brighter to dimmer and vice-versa also, the light of the keyboard was behaving in a similar way. I restarted it and after some time it was fine so, I thought that may be I have accidentally pressed a key that is causing it.
Next day i.e. 09th Dec'10, I got a call from my wife while I was in office that all the keys of the key board have stopped working and she is unable to enter any text or number. I again thought that may be some function of Mac that I was not aware of has accidentally been switched-on. So, I suggested her to take it to the Apple store (on Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich, Switzerland) and get it looked by an expert. She went to Apple store and showed it to the expert there however after a thorough examination the expert could not help and suggested that we should show it to another expert from the Genius bar and gave as an appointment for the next day in Apple Store (on Glattzentrum, Zurich, Switzerland)!!!
As soon as I came back home from office, first thing in my mind was to see the issue, to my horror all the keys were like jammed i.e. I could press the keys however nothing would happen on screen and the brightness of the display screen would fluctuate. Also, the left click turned to right click!!!
Next morning i.e. 10th Dec'10, to my surprise everything was working perfectly fine and I was totally jazzed!! However, I decided to still discuss my issue with the experts from Apple store. I told my wife to take it to Apple store (on Glattzentrum, Zurich, Switzerland) and get it looked. She went to store and narrated the whole issue to the expert and expert was able to reproduce the issue and guided us to leave the Macbook with him as he has to replace some parts. The repair number is R39582769.
I am not as proud as I was earlier infact, I am felling guilty now!!! We have been very sad and disappointed by this event and had never expected that Apple products will be so unreliable!!!
*I want to know that what is the replacement policy and why I should not be covered under this policy as I could use my new Macbook Pro for mere 20 days????*
(a not so proud Apple user)

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Apple will try and repair the problem and if they fix it then all will be well; most warranties allow the supplier to firtly repair any problem rather then offer immediate replacement items. If they can't fix it, or something else happens, many have a 'three strikes and you're out' approach and will replace with a new item then - often it's up to the store manager to make this call. You are within your rights to ask for a replacement but they are within theirs to try a repair first.

  • MacBook Pro is having trouble booting

Hi, I recently installed Windows 7 to my MacBook Pro, only to find that the product key had already been used and it was an upgrade disc.. (I plan to buy my own copy soon). So I decided to remove the partition that contained Windows 7 to give my computer a "fresh", untouched feeling. This has created one issue:
When powering up my MacBook Pro, it now appears to still attempt to boot from Windows (I don't know why it set Windows as a default).. but since I removed Windows 7, it just displays a black screen that says the boot file could not be found and to insert the proper boot disc and press any key.
I can get around this by booting my Mac up and holding the option key to manually select the OSX hard disk, which is the only on to choose from.
So how can I get my MacBook back to normal? I'm not concerned about loading Windows 7 right now.
    Thanks in advance!

Open the Startup Disk preference pane in System Preferences, select your Mac OS install and click restart. This will set your Mac to always boot to the Mac OS partition.

  • My MacBook Pro, is having trouble charging... Could it be the battery or the charger?

I've had my MacBook Pro since 2011 (OS X 10.9.5.), for the last two years I've constantly left it on the charger. The past few days I've been leaving it off the charger and it didn't have any problems charging fully. This evening, I notice when the charger is connected to the computer it stays orange for about 2-5 minutes and the little light shuts off. Since this has been happening, I've been flipping the switch on my surge protecter off/on, it starts charging again but after while the charger (orange light) will turn off. I only got the computer to charge up to 56%. This has been the first time charging unit has been acting up. Please Help!

    Perform a SMC reset:

  • My macbook pro is having troubles loading Windows outlook everytime I try to open it. It says is it syncing.

Every time I try to open outlook after turning my computer on it freezes. I can still access the internet or other files, but the outlook window sits in the middle of the screen with the rainbow curser spinning forever. I have my address synced with my gmail account and on the bar at the bottom of outlook it says syncing but the progress bar doesn't move. Has anyone had this problem before? I read something about having your inbox too full and creating subfolders to help but I can't create sub folders because it keeps freezing.
    HELP!

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
    If that fails:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards
    TD

  • Trouble playing any videos on Macbook Pro

So 2 months back, my macbook pro is having trouble playing any type of flash videos, from youtube, embedded videos, pretty anything with flash. flash player is up to date, i can surf the internet and do my work flawlessly but as soon as i start a video, the mbp starts to slow down and the video starts getting choppy. Not sure what else to do before giving up and going to the apple store. I've shut it down and restarted it still having issues. any help would be appreciated! Running OS X 10.8.2

I have been having these same problems. Currently, playing YouTube videos in HD, is not viewable, so I have to watch videos in 240p (gross). My thought is that YouTube has shut down some of the servers in order to push some kind of update. My advice, just wait out the storm and see what happens over the next few days. If the issue is still not fixed, I would suggest contacting Google. In the meantime, you could try and reinstall Flash Player, or change browsers, but from my experience, none of that worked.
    Best of luck!

  • MacBook Pro downloading trouble

My MacBook Pro is having trouble downloading files. The download window opens but the file disappears and I have to go into my downloads folder in order to retrieve it. This happens if I'm downloading files from anywhere, not just the internet. Today, I couldn't find the files in the download folder at all.

Can  you read the instructions in this document "Can't download Adobe store purchase" (http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cant-download-store-purchase.html) and let us know if you still have problems?
    Thanks,

  • My Macbook Pro cannot connect to my Wifi

    Hello,
My Macbook Pro has had trouble connecting to my landlord's internet ever since he added a password to it. I tried my cellphone with the password and it connects to it however my Macbook Pro does not. The password I entered is correct and works because the green lights, light up in network settings and the Wifi signal is at top bar on my Macbook Pro. But, no pages load. The blue loading bar goes almost half way and stops. I downloaded all the updates to see if that would be the fix but no it still doesn't connect. Other places like cafes where their is Wifi I have no problems with. It's just at home. My cell on the otherhand is able to connect. So I dont get whats wrong?

  • MacBook Pro Retina and Movies

    Good evening all,
I am brand new to the world of MacBooks and have some hesitations.  First and foremost, I have decided to go with either a 13 or 15 inch Macbook Pro.  The trouble I am having is whether it would be prudent to go with the retina display or original MB.  My uses include the following:
    1) WATCHING HD MOVIES
    2) Web surfing
    3) E-mail
    4) Youtube stuff
    5) Using word/pages and powerpoint
    6)  Playing occasional games (Quake and Halo)
Did I mention watching movies already??  The biggest difference I understand with the 13 and 15 inch models is the discreet graphics card which I understand is only available in the 15??  Additionally, I have read many post that talk about the retina display and movies looking good.  Can anyone define good?  I have an iPhone, retina iPad and I am looking for a crisp display.  So would a MBP with high res screen fit the bill or will I be disappointed and need to go retina instead?
Any and all advice is welcome as I keep getting conflicting information from friends that say I wont be able to tell the difference of the screen while watching movies and that retina is too expensive to justify it right now.
Also any configurations such as RAM, GPU, CPU would be welcome as well.  Thanks

Firstly, it's never supposed to be on your lap. Read the manual warning regarding this. It's not a laptop, it's a notebook computer. Keep on a flat surface preferable with the rear elevated at least 3/4 to  1" to provide adequate ventilation.
Secondly, yes these computers do run hot because of the processor speed, GPU, and Retina screen.
Thirdly, refer to More Like This items listed on the right side of this page.

  • MacBook Pro won't connect to wireless network unless tilted

Hi! My MacBook Pro occasionally has trouble connecting to the wireless network in my house, but that can usually be solved by turning Airport off and then back on. Today (very suddenly), Airport disconnected from my network and could not find it again. I tried restarting my MacBook Pro and router multiple times. Finally it was able to connect, but here's the thing: it only works if my MacBook is tilted at an angle. If I try to open a webpage while the MacBook is sitting normally on a flat surface, the page won't load. If I lift one side of the MacBook so that it's tilted at a 45 degree angle, the page will load. Once it's level again the internet will stop working and the Airport signal bars will turn gray.
I've never come across a problem like this before. Everything was running fine this morning. It is so strange and I have no idea what to do! Help, please? Is my Airport dying? Is something loose inside? My MacBook Pro is about 4 years old.

Delete your network from system preferences, network, advanced.
re enter your network you wish to join
If that fails then do a PRAM reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    and a SMC reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Maybe something to do with the motion sensor
if so try resetting the SMC

  • MacBook Pro Will Not Reboot

My MacBook Pro is having trouble restarting. I originally opened the laptop to start working and noticed the comouter was acting strange (reconnecting to Wifi after turning it off, Chrome wasn't loading). I decided to reboot the computer to see if that wouls fix the lagging/behavior. After I turned it off and back on, a message about an unprovoked caller, security agent, and something about apple software. Everytime i clicked ok to get rid of the message it kept reappearing. I stumbled across this post Has unapproved caller on screen securityagent may only be invoked by apple software  and followed these directions:
"Start on single user mode: Hit the Command and S keys at start-up
Wait until the writing stops completely
-At the line, type (after root): /sbin/fsck -fy (space after the k)
    Hit the ENTER key
wait until it finishes and says "... appears to be OK"
next, type: /sbin/mount -uw / (space after the t and after the w)
    Hit the ENTER key
then type: rm -Rf /var/folders/*  (space after the m and the f)
    Hit the ENTER key
Run FSCK again (I did, just in case,  but you may not have to):
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Finally, type REBOOT, hit ENTER and wait until computer starts."
I tried these but it didn't solve the problem. However now whenever I try to boot, a white/grey progress bar appears. When 1/4 of the bar is loaded, some text appears on the left corner of my screen for a bit then it restarts itself and a message appears saying the computer restarted due to some error, then restarts again with the progress bar stopping and words appearing. Its a constant loop unless I manually power it down.
I read about starting it in safe mode, but holding down **** doesn't work for me. I am able to start it in single use mode, sometimes on recovery mode. I'm unsuccessful when holding down Command+Option+P+R. When I booted it in recovery mode I went to the disk utility option and clicked on something along the lines of Automatically Updating Permissions.

This is what worked for me:
Situation: After installing OS X 10.5.6, my mid 2007 MBP began to freeze, and eventually wouldn't reboot normally, nor in safe-mode or from a disk. Also tried resetting SMC and PRAM, still would boot from disk.
Tried fysk, which worked for a while, but eventually the computer wouldn't reboot again.
Connected it to another mac via firewire in target mode and erased all the data (yes I had a time machine back-up), but still wouldn't reboot from disk.
Solution: A friend of mine tried resetting the PRAM again (command, Option P,R) but this time, he continued pressing the start button until the third chime (rather than the second as per apple instruction).
All of a sudden we were able to reboot from disk, reintall the OS X 10.4.9 and then do a regular update to 10.5.6. My MBP has been working fine ever since.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • IPad Captured Video transferred to MacBook Pro corrupted...

I recently imported video I had taken with my iPad to my MacBook Pro.  When the videos were imported they appear corrupted (green and blotchy).  I then tried to transfer them back to my iPad, however the corruption of the video still exists.  Any suggestions on how to fix this or avoid it in the future welcomed.

The videos weren't altered & imported in their original state.  I did use them in the iMovie app, but there was no issue during this or when playing the edited clip.
In addition, my iMovie on my MacBook pro is having trouble generating thumbnails; attempts to generate & then shuts down due to error.  I am not sure if this is connected to the distorted video issue.
Sadly I didn't keep the originals on the iPad, as I wasn't expecting there to be an issue when transferring between 2 Mac products.
