Apparantly there were some compatibility issues with the Sims3 and Lion. I believe there is a Sims3 update available if I'm not mistaken.

  • Macbook pro late 2011 starting problem

I'm running OS Maverics 10.9.3 version on Macbook pro late 2011. Few days ago the OS got much slower than normal system. Then i installed the the new OS but it was good for few hours. Then after few hours it became slower again. Then I changed the HDD and installed the new OS. But I found the same problem again. Then I removed all backup files from the HDD. After removing all items it became to work normally. But after 15/17 days later when i'm trying to turn on the macbook a flashing folder icon appears then i pull down the display for a while. When the lights gone then i turn on again and it works normally. I tried the internet recovery option by pressing the (ctrl+R) button but it takes much time. But nothing happened. What is the problem?

  • MacBook Pro (Late 2011) Graphics Card issue; shall I keep it?

    Hi there,
I've recently bought a MacBook Pro (Late 2011) second hand from someone on eBay, it's going to be delivered in a couple days.
Now, after the purchase, I did some research into the production year - I know, I should've done it before really - and found a huge amount of people with the very-known issue of the Graphics card. The issue causes massive visual problems and has, on many occasions, resulted in a replaced Logic Board.
I'd like to know whether you think that this machine is a safe one to keep, or if I should send it back and try and get one from a different year?
The seller said, once I asked him about it, that the previous owner (obviously someone has had it before him) apparently had a few issues, but he himself hasn't, and is using Mavericks.
    What do you think?

Not ALL of the 15" and 17" models have had a problem with the soldering of the GPU - maybe 20,000 at the most (based on the information that I've been gathering and some of those may be reports on the same machine). It's possible that yours may be  good one.
However... I wouldn't take the chance, were it me. I've only had my logic board replaced once and it's been almost 11 months now and my machine is still working. But I'm sure that the problem will surface again (after my AppleCare runs out in 2015!) so I've decided to become less Mac-dependent in the future.
If I were you, I would just tell the seller that you're not comfortable buying a 2011 model with the discrete GPUs (the 13" models are just fine) and would shop Apple's refurbished section, looking for a non-Retina 2012 model.
    My opinion...

  • MacBook Pro (Late 2011) calibration problem

    Hi,
I have tried to calibrate the monitor of my MacBook Pro (Late 2011, Mountain Lion OS) with the Spyder4Express, but the monitor has a yellow cast after the calibration. I've verified the yellow cast by comparing my monitor with other calibrated monitors and with some photos printed with calibrated printers. Moreover, I have calibrated the monitor of another MacBook Pro with the same Spyder4Express and the result is different from mine, i.e. the same photo is displayed with different tones on the two monitors of the two MacBooks.
As calibration parameters of the Spyder4Express I have selected
    Gamut = Normal Gamut
    Backlight = White LED
and set LCD Native flag in the Preferences Panel.
Any suggestions to solve this issue? I suspect that the graphic accelerator (Intel HD 3000) of my MacBook Pro doesn't support the calibration. Someone else had the same problem?

  • Macbook Pro Early 2011 Startup Problems

Hi everyone. I have been having issues with my Macbook Pro starting up since about mid-December. Initially, I had this problem every few weeks, but recently it's been happening about once a week or more.
    Some details:
My Macbook Pro is early 2011, 15", and is running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5.
Processor is 2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Storage Capacity: 50GB SATA Disk
Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB graphics
There have been multiple issues, but I think they're all related. The laptop works just fine while it's turned on and the screen is working.
The main issue I've had is that I used to always just close the lid when I was finished using the laptop. The first issue is that every once in a while, when I opened the lid, the screen wouldn't turn on. More recently, the screen is getting light, but it's just a blank black screen and I can't do anything; there's no mouse onscreen and none of the keyboard buttons do anything. When this happens I need to use the power button to turn off the Macbook and once I hear it turn off I try to use the power button to turn it back on again. Usually if I hold the power button long enough (about 10 seconds) I hear the startup sound start, but I never get the final chime. I can hear the fans going so I know the laptop isn't dead, but nothing is responsive and nothing comes up on the screen. Sometimes if I leave the Macbook this way the fans start getting really loud like they're working harder than usual. I'm not entirely sure how and why the Macbook finally starts up normally again eventually; I'm starting to think that it's just a matter of waiting and when I come back to it after 5/10 minutes it will eventually startup normally. Once or twice when I had the problem I unplugged the laptop from the power source and flipped the closed laptop so the lid was facing down and the bottom up and left it that way for at least a minute. Everything started up fine when I tried again. However this hasn't worked the last several times I've tried. Overall, the power button just seems really unresponsive when this happens since I need to hold it for longer than usual to even hear any sort of startup noise.
Every time this happens now I try holding down the power button to turn it on, hear it make some noises, but not the startup chime, hold the power button down to turn it off, hear it click off, and try the same thing again. During this I try various things like PRAM and SMC resets and holding down various buttons, but eventually, usually after taking at least a 2 to 3 minute break from this, the laptop finally starts up again like normal and I have no idea how it's working again.
For a while I thought that the SMC reset might have fixed the problem, but it's still happening. I've already taken the Macbook in to the Apple Store twice. The first time they ran all the hardware tests, but everything seemed to be working fine. The second time they reinstalled the software and I was hoping that would fix the problem, but the problem has persisted since the reinstall so I know this probably isn't a software issue. This also isn't caused by the laptop being moved or dropped or anything since often it will work fine, but when I come back to it without moving it an inch, the screen won't turn on again.
For a few days this problem was a daily thing. Every single time I opened the lid the screen wouldn't turn on. Eventually I learned that this was probably because the laptop wasn't registering that the lid had been opened and so it didn't know to turn back on from sleep mode. After reading some articles online I decided to start putting my laptop to sleep by using the shutdown dialogue before closing the lid and this seemed to work for a while, but it no longer seems to be the solution. This doesn't happen every time I open the lid, but it happens enough that it's wasting a lot of my time and energy in trying to get it to work and trying to figure out the problem every time it happens.
There has been a second problem as well and I'm not sure if it's related, but I want to mention it in case it is or in case someone at least has a solution to this problem. The laptop, while on, works just fine. But every once in a while when I'm using regular programs on the laptop, out of nowhere, the screen will suddenly become just a black or gray screen or a white/beige screen with vertical lines and sometimes a buzzing noise to accompany this. When this happens all I can do is restart the laptop with the power button. This has not happened too often to be that much of a hindrance, but it still worries me. (Early on, before the screens with vertical lines, about two or three times the laptop would just shut off by itself without any warning while I was in the middle of something.) I doubt that it's related to a specific program. It's happened while I've used programs I always use. Once when I was using Skype, once for Google Chrome, once for Photoshop. Recently there was also a time when I was playing music on iTunes and doing things on Google Chrome and suddenly the music stopped and the mouse was frozen in place. The force quit keys didn't work so I needed to power down and restart
I've read several online discussions and articles and I think there may be a problem with my video cable, video chip, display driver, or logic board (or logic board battery). I'm nervous about opening up my laptop myself since I'm worried about causing any damage in the process of attempting to fix hardware. I also worry that if I bring it into the Apple Store again it will pass all the hardware tests so I won't be able to get anything fixed.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what steps I can try to fix this? Should I go back to the Apple Store? Is there something specific I should tell them?
Sorry for such a long post. I just wanted to thoroughly explain my problem.

    Hi,
There have been many reports of graphics problems with early 2011 Macbook Pros. There is a long-running thread on this forum about it but instead of wading through that -- it's miles long -- take a look at this article, which sums it up, more or less.
    http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/01/16/owners-of-late-2011-macbook-pros-repor t-critical-gpu-failures-system-crashes
You may have already done this, but try starting up in Recovery mode by holding down Command and R keys together, and in the window that appears, select Disk Utility and Continue. Then select your startup disk -- usually called Macintosh HD -- and in First Aid click on Repair Disk.
This will let you know if your disk has any problems.
Also try Safe mode by starting up while holding down the Shift key.
If you go back to the Apple store try to find out if yours is one of the problem computers from early 2011.
P.S. Your disk is probably 500 GB.

  • Macbook Pro Screen and Graphics Problems

I just bought a macbook pro 15" 2.53 GHz model today. I haven't even had it 12 hours and am having problems. First when I tried the screen saver it messes up, adds big squares where there aren't supposed to be any. So I just tried playing The Sims 3 to test the graphics and that played fine. Now as I am typing this the screen keeps flashing blue. Either making it seem like everything is being highlighted or going all blue for a split second.
    What is going on?
I'm going back to the Apple Store tomorrow, this is not okay.

Make sure to make an appointment if you want to be seen fairly quickly. They should be able to swap you out for a new one right away.

  • Macbook Pro (Early 2011) charging problems

    Hey Guys,
The Macbook Pro was bought in July of 2011 which is only a few months old .When I plug in my magsafe to charge the macbook pro it turns green, then orage to show that it is charging. However, after a few mintues of charging the orange LED light goes off and it stops charging, then the orange light comes on to charge for another few mintues then stops charging. I have been aren't to charge the macbook pro
Is the charger broken? I cant find or see anything tearing in the charging cable or anything broken with the power brick.
    Thanks

    First try resetting the SMC...
Reset SMC of a MacBook or MacBook Pro’s with an internal battery:
    * Shutdown your MacBook/Pro
    * Connect the power adapter to your Mac
    * On the MacBook/Pro’s keyboard, hold down the Shift+Control+Option keys and the Power button at the same time
    * Release all keys and the power button at the same time
    * Boot your Mac as usual
    Then try resetting the PRAM...
    Resetting the PRAM
You reset the PRAM by rebooting a Mac and then immediately hold down theCommand+Option+P+R keys, you will then hear the Mac reboot sound again, signifying your PRAM has been reset. You must hit the key combination before the grey screen appears otherwise it won’t work.
If those two tricks fail, take the adapter and the laptop to the applestore. IMO it sounds like a battery issue and not a charger problem.

  • MacBook Pro 13 (2011) Ethernet problems

Hi all! I bought my laptop 3 months ago. almost immediately there was a problem with the Ethernet. The essence is this: after 2-3 hours it stops working. That is, as if the cord is not plugged in. I upgraded my operation system to 10.7.2 but the problem remains.

    hi -zieg-
This is my recommendation for your consideration
Also have 3 mo. old MBP (17")
Had ,very briefly, same problem: reinstalled Lion... and problem vanished.
Please remember to do backup B4  any major system change. if you choose to do this: I have time capsule. This would be,of course, a solution albeit time consuming....
    Let 'er rip and ...
    cheers

  • Macbook Pro Late 2011 Boot problem

What may cause my macbook to only boot (very slowly) to the background screen (running Yosemiti)? It boots slow and on the off chance I do get to a screen with icons I get the spinner every time I make the computer do someting. I have tried reinstalling the OS.

Did you click on the MOUNT icon on top of the Disk Utility window?
    Ciao.

  • What is the problem with 15-inch Macbook Pro model 2011 after connecting to TV with HDMI chord?

Today we connected a 15-inch Macbook Pro model 2011 with HDMI chord to an Insigna Television. We plugged and unplugged couple of times. But recently the macbook pro is having technical issues. The following symptoms are:
    1. Macbook pro turns on and off
    2. The screen stays blue and keeps loading but does not load to the desktop so you can't access to anywhere
    3. The screen sometimes becomes fuzzy and the apple logo that shows before it loads to the desktop is fuzzy
    4. Sometimes fuzzy lines appear on the screen like you see on television when there's a bad signal
    5. The screen stays blue
    6. Sometimes little specks appear on the screen
Only thing we did was turn it off and restart but it still leads to the same symptoms above.
Does anyone have any clue what caused this problem? I am guessing it is due to the connection to the HDMI chord, since we didn't turn the macbook on and off when we plugged it, rather we just unplugged and plugged the chord while the macbook is running.
Another theory might be watching movies from an online source but the first theory seems to make more sense.
We scheduled a meeting with the genius bar tomorrow but does anyone might have any clue? And also any ideas how to fix this? This is an emergency because there are important files on the macbook we didn't back up and we hope the files are safe and we need to use the macbook ASAP. Let us know anything that might have caused this and/or any solutions or help. That would be appreciated and thank you.

Hey there! Welcome to the Discrete GPU issue clube ... post your relate here >>> 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card
And for GOD SAKE! Call Apple to tell them that you're another user with such problem ...  that action can improve a future recall. BTW the fix price for your problem is around U$ 1000,00 ... that's the meaning of the recall attempt

  • Graphic problem in 13'' macbook pro late 2011

I have problem with my 13'' i7 macbook pro (late 2011) . for instance when i swipe up/down with 4 fingers, my apps or docs minimize So logy and slowly as well as when i want full screen my browser or other application, it do it very bad with some vibration and i dont know what do i have to do?
is this problem for my graphic card or is for Lion ios?
as the matter of fact , i bough this mac 2 months ago.
Im wondering if someone can help me in this regard!

Since it is less than a year old call AppleCare: 800-SOS-APPL (in the US).
Have your Mac's serial number ready: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1349
After you wait on hold for a very long time they ask you some frustratingly basic questions like is it charged and did you spill water on it etc., they will talk you through some basic troubleshooting such as an SMC reset. In the end they will offer to schedule an appointment at a Genius Bar where they will fix whatever is wrong. It won't cost you anything (unless you spilled water on it etc).
You can do all this yourself:
    SMC reset:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Genius Bar Reservations:
    http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
You can test the hardware yourself also, if it reports something wrong tell them what it is.

  • Can't update AMD graphics card drivers in Macbook Pro 15" 2011

I've been having this problem for a while now, and from what I understand, it's a fairly common issue with bootcamp but I have not been able to find a solution to the problem nonetheless. I am using a 15" Macbook Pro from 2011 (purchased in early September, not sure if that was before the 'late 2011' model or not), running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 through bootcamp v4.0. The graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 6750m last updated on 6/13/2011 to version 8.812.0.0.
I have tried many times to update the card using the AMD catalyst control center supposedly made for windows 7 in bootcamp, but no matter what compatibility options I choose, the installer either tells me there is no graphics adapter (auto detect) or just crashes immediately after starting installation of the catalyst control center. I've also attempted reinstalling bootcamp several times, each with a fresh download of the windows support software, though I have not completely uninstalled Windows 7. I'm not sure if the problem is with the bootcamp drivers themselves or with AMD's software or a combination of both, and a solution would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I know this is completely the wrong spot for this, but while I'm here, does anybody else have issues running EA's Origin download service? I just installed it in bootcamp a few days ago to play Mass Effect 3, and ever since then my computer gets display lag (e.g. in windows media player the video freezes for a few seconds at a time, while the sound continues playing) sometimes, especially during and after attempting to play Mass Effect 3. I already checked to make sure that both Origin and Mass Effect 3 are fully up to date, so I thought it might have something to do with the graphics card.
Anyway, thanks for the assistance, and I apologize for asking a question that has probably been answered several times. I searched through several posts, I couldn't find any answers to my problem.

Despite all of these helpful posts from the community, I'm still coming up short. I'm attempting to update my ATI Radeon HD 6770m driver on windows 7 64-bit. I've followed this guide:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3866652?start=0&tstart=0
(third post down) - I also use Drive Sweeper after using CCCleaner and device manager uninstall.
Every time I attempt to install the driver after rebooting, I receive an error message stating "Driver install: the INF file was not found" with a log stating that the driver failed to install upon completion.
When I attempt to use control panel>Device Manager>Display Adapters>Update Driver Software>Browse My Computer For Driver Software and then choose the appropriate file path (including subfolders) or by choosing from a list of device drivers and selecting one of the two inf files in c:/amd/support/12-2_mobility../packages/drivers/display/w76a_inf, I receive the following error message:
"Windows Encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
    AMD Radeon HD 6700m Series
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software."
I'm hitting nothing but dead ends here. I just want to play SWTOR with an updated driver!
Please provide a detailed, step-by-step solution (if you have one). It is not safe to assume that I have any experience regarding graphics drivers or running windows in bootcamp. Thanks in advance.

  • Will Windows 7 Pro run with 16GB of Ram in Macbook Pro Early 2011 13-inch?

Will Windows 7 Pro run with 16GB of Ram in Macbook Pro Early 2011 13-inch?, Does the brand of the Ram matter ?
I installed Crucial 16 gb and the Mac runs just fine but Windows won't start. It gets to the login screen then it turns white.

I decided to make another try today after some reading and googling the internet.
I started windows with my old 4GB memory and changed the bootconfiguration with msconfig. I typed manually in max memory tp 16384 MB and saved the settings. Then I turned it off and inserted the 16GB ram again. Then it started really but when looking at the properties of my computer it says 16 GB installed but I can only use 2,16GB. So I opened msconfig again and changed the settings once more and restarted. Now it says 16GB installed but I can use 14,2GB so I guess it is ok now for some strange reason. I suppose the lost 1,8GB is for the system ?? Do I dare to turn it off again :-) what will it say next time ?
I am so happy and greatful for all your help, I really really appreciate it and I hope my solution will come to use for someone else with same problem.
    Thank You all :-)
