  • MacBook Pro internet connection problem.

    Greetings everyone,
I have a MacBook Pro that is my sister's and has been having intermittent connection issues on a wireless connection.  This has been tested on two different routers including a new Belkin N+ router.  The MacBook will connect to the internet and load approximately three pages before just hanging in a loading bar.  Restarting Safari or Firefox does not seem to resolve the issue.  I have looked for mDNSResponder and it is not active right now either, so I am unsure if that is an issue.  Any ideas on a possible resolution?  I'm running OS X 10.7.4.  Thanks in advance!!

I'm having the same issue.  did you happen to get it solved?

how set up  macbook  pro Internet router?

But isn't the MacBook Pro connected to the modem and being used as the router? You can only share an Ethernet connection wirelessly. You only check the box to share the Ethernet connection to Wi-Fi. Do not check any of the other boxes. You select Ethernet from the dropdown menu as the connection you will share. Your preferences should look like this:
The only difference will be that yours will show just Ethernet, not Ethernet 1.

  • Macbook pro touchpad/curser problems.

macbook pro touchpad curser problems.  typing randomly jumps to wherever the curser is resting at the time.  unbelievably maddening.  multiple devices same all have same problem.  hard to believe we cannot find anything on the apple site about this.  MANY complaints outside of this site on this issue... clearly a touchpad/battery design flaw being ignored by Cupertino.  during the writing of this post, the curser jumped randomly and started typing in a different location six times.  IMPOSSIBLE to use as a word processor since typing becomes quite frustrating.  HELP.  any ideas?  Fanboy and shareholder.  three macbook pros in the house...all the same problem. (please do not offer separate keyboard as solution...this is a laptop, not a Surface Pro...)

Go step by step and test.
    1. Restart
    2. Shut down the computer.
Clean the trackpad with moist not wet microfiber cloth.
System Preferences > Point & Click
Try turning off three finger dragging and then turning it on after  testing.
    3. Is there any Bluetooth device nearby with failing batteries? If so, replace the batteries.

    6. Close all windows and quit all applications.
Click the Spotlight -the magnifying glass icon- in the menu bar. Enter Disk utility in the box.

Hi, I have internet speed problem.
When I connect to internet from my PC - speed is more than 90  Mbps, but when I use my router - about 45 Mbps.
    What the problem?

Are there any other devices connected to the router? Any new devices you did not have connected to your Linksys/Cisco router? Are you running the default configuration on the router? Check the computer if you are running Windows update on the back ground. If it is running then try to disable it temporarily. Here is the link for how to disable it: http://www.techtalkz.com/windows-7/515869-windows-update-enable-disable-automatic-updates-windows-7-...
As far as wireless is concern try the following settings:
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Gateway setup page.
    # Make the Channel Width to 20MHz only and select the Channel to 1, 3, 6, 9, 11..
#Adjust the following advanced wireless settings:
~~ Lower the beacon interval from 100 to 75
~~ Lower the fragmentation threshold from 2346 to 2306
~~ Lower the RTS threshold from 2347 to 2307
    Then check the connectivity status.

  • 2012 MacBook Pro Intel i7 (purchased May 2013) constantly drops airport connection. My 2006 MacBook Pro has no problems connecting and staying connected.

I received a 2012 MacBook Pro INtel i7 for my birthday this May 2013. It constantly drops my airport connection. My ancient 2006 MacBook Pro has no problem connecting to airport, nor staying connected. I've had to write this message several times as I keep losing the airport connection and have to reconnect. BTW: I am less than five feet from the airport base.
    Thanks for help.

After trying all of the above the suggestions, the problem returned as before. However, after digging some more I discovered that the issue appears to lie with the 10.4.10 version of the Mac OS; when I checked the software log under the system profiler I noticed that I had installed that update at about the time my Airport problems began. Apple then quietly released a v 1.1 combo update to 10.4.10 on July 2nd, which once installed appears to have resolved the problem. You can find the download at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10410comboupdatev11intel.html
What's curious is that originally Apple listed that the v 1.1 combo update resolved some issues with RAW image data, and some sound problems, which don't seem to have anything to do with Airport.

  • Macbook Pro Beach Ball Problems

I have a '08 MBP that has the spinning beach ball showing up in all the apps during use and everything runs slower.
Web pages take 5-10 seconds to load.
Lightroom photos take 5-10 seconds to load. Commands and mouse selections take 4-5 seconds to respond.
It slows down even more with an external monitor being used.
The fan runs high 85% of the time.
Hard drive was replaced with an SSD about 2 years ago, which helped calm HD noise.
The HD has 15.5 GB left right now, but the beach ball problem has been there even with half the HD full.
Problem has been going on for a couple of years, but I've managed around it.
This issue occurs even with only 1 app running. For instance, I'll shut all apps except one application, and it still drags, whether that one app be Safari or LR.
I realize the MBP is older, but it used to be very responsive with the same apps. Never used to see the beach ball during app usage, only at startup of app if anytime.
I believe the RAM is maxed out for what this machine can handle at 4GB, but again, the system didn't slow down before.
I believe the problem may be some processes running in the background that are dragging down everything, but not sure what to look for.
Any advice any fixes are greatly appreciated.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Improve Macbook Pro's Speed

I have purchased my Macbook Pro last March of this year. It has been working well as I have not had any problems with it.
But lately, whenever I open Safari, the beach ball appears and stays there for seconds. And then it wrecks everything. It slows down opening other applications.
What I would usually do is restart the laptop. Evrything seems fine again and then after sometime, the same scenario appears again
Can someone help me how to improve this? How to improve speed?

It may be your internet connection or your connection to your router. Try powering everything down and then powering back up first the modem, the router and then your Mac. Wait 1 minute between each.

  • Retina Display MacBook Pro image persistence problem.

    Hello,
I have recently ( about 3 months ago) bought a Retina MacBook Pro and installed Windows via Bootcamp on it. I unfortunately am used to Windows. Well recently I tried to migrate to OS X and use it more often. Whilst doing so something caught my eyes on the desktop/Screen. There appears to be Ghosting images of the Finder/Safari windows I open which look extremely annoying and terrible for a machine I payed 3000 dollars for. I have contacted Apple support via a phone call and they said they will replace it...the screen...if i brought it and gave it to them myself. The problem is, I live out of the US and I ordered this from a friend that has went there to buy one for me as we both live in Saudi Arabia and the Premium Resellers here sell it for a very high profit rate. My issue is that I live out of the US with a Malfunctioning Laptop worth $ 3,000, and can't send it to Apple as I don't know anybody going there including myself. I have researched and this problem happens only on LG manufactured screens, I have found out mine is also indeed an LG screen via a terminal code I found on the Internet. Is there any way Apple can replace the laptop or the screen from Saudi Arabia as there are premium resellers. The support guy was not very helpful as I was a rare case out of the US and the service of the resellers here said they would like to look at the display, I don't think they would fix it for free...Don't apple devices have an international warranty?
    Thanks,

an hour on my MBP by itself (someone else's office, a hotel room, an airplane, my lazy sofa) and my eyes lose the ability to focus --and I'm toast.
    Ok, I'll explain why.
First off your iPad and iPhone screen is smaller, thus doesn't reflect as much as a larger display will.
Your other displays are in a static environment where you have reduced the glare or it's been reduced just by chance.
When you take the glossy screen laptop to another location without adequate environmental features to reduce glare imposed (no overhead lights, closed windows, low light etc.) on the screen, thus your getting eyestrain from the glare.
It's caused by the slightly out of focus reflections verses the screen image, your eyes are automatically refocusing between the two images.
Your solution in this matter is to apply a anti-glare film to the laptops glossy screen, unfortunately it's going to cost money and be replaced often as it gets dirty, dries out and peels at edges etc.
Ideally a anti-glare matte screen would be the choice in the first place. I use my Mac for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and don't have the eyestrain problem anymore.

  • Mac Pro to MacBook Pro -  File transfer problem

I just bought a new Mac Pro. It is connected to my Airport Extreme via ethernet. The Airport Extreme is connected to my cable modem vis ethernet.
The Mac Pro and the MacBook Pro appear in the others Shared part of the side bar. I have checked the permissions of the files (command I) that I am trying to transfer and in every case there are the usual names- admin, my name, and everyone - with Read & Write privileges. However, there is another one called (unknown) with read only. I can not change the privilege nor delete the name from the list.
    1. I have repaired permissions on both machines
    2. In "Get Info" I changed permissions and added "Administrators" and made it "Read & Write" to the files I am trying to share.
    *The Problem is:*
I can transfer from the MacBook Pro to the Mac Pro but when I try to transfer from the Mac Pro to the MacBook Pro , I get the Alert:
"You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named " Blah Blah"
When I click on "Continue", I get this message:
"The item "Blah Blah" contains one or more items you do not have permission to read. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?"
When I click continue I get:
" The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items".
From the Mac Pro I have no problem moving files from one folder to another on the MacBook Pro.
Transferring worked perfectly when I had my old PPC G5 (where the Mac Pro is in the loop).
Can someone please help? Anyone have an idea or two?

Have run into this problem repeatedly in the past two weeks.  I first discovered I could tether my MacBook Pro to my Droid X and access the internet for free, so I was elated.  After a couple of days I could no longer connect the phone to the Mac via Bluetooth as you describe.  Then it magically came back a week later, and after two days I lost it again.  I spent about 3 hours troubleshooting and solved it.  I hope this works for you.
Open Network Preferences on the computer
    HIghlight Bluetooth PAN
    Select the ADVANCED tab
    Click on "Renew DHCP Lease"
    That did it for me.
    Good luck,

  • Macbook Pro and WEP problem

    Hello guys,
Ive been looking for a solution to this problem for a long time. I have seen various variations of my problem but nothing exactly the same. But still I appologise in advance if this has already been covered.
Basically I bought a MacBook Pro back in late November and for some reason I cant connect to any network that has a WEP password. I had one on my home network and had to remove it leaving the connection open in order for me to connect. but now I am on holiday and I am having the same problem. I have the right password and everything but it just wont connect to it. I get a message saying "cannot connect to <network name>"...its quite frustrating.
What could be wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated, or if you can just point me in the right direction that would be cool too
    Thanks guys
    Ross

My MacBook Pro had been working fine with my WEP encrypted wireless router until my husband "fixed" the router to work with his lame XP laptop. He reset the router and reinstalled it, then I could not connect unless it was set to WPA, and he couldn't connect until it was set to WEP. I finally figured out how to connect using the WEP. I have to open Internet Connection and instead of selecting my wireless network from the list, I have to select 'other', and then select my home network. Then I have the option to select WEP hex instead of WEP password. My password then works. I don't have to put a $ in front of it.
Now I have the problem of having to do this each time I turn on the MacBook, though. Does anyone know a way to change the default encryption for a wireless network so I don't have to go through this each time? I tried changing the preferred network settings, but, again, when I pick the home network from the list it does not recognize my password because it thinks that it is WEP password instead of WEP hex.

  • Macbook pro internet sharing to non apple with password ?

    Hi there,
I have a MacBook pro, in my place I connect to the Internet through LAN cable, and I have 3 friends who I share the Internet with (Windows)
When I share my Internet with them I cannot put a password (40-bit or 128-bit) because when I do their laptops says password is wrong
So I leave it without one, and that gives me a big headache because my network is exposed to every one and I’ll have a slow Internet speed
I am searching for an answer since forever , Is there a way to protect my network ?
to have a password and let other non apple laptops access my network?

It hardly matters. The only security available with Internet Sharing is WEP, which can be cracked by anyone in a few minutes. Use a real wireless router with real security, or don't bother with security at all and accept the consequences.

  • MacBook Pro internet non-responsive

    Hey guys,
I got a MacBook Pro this August and am really excited about it, save the fact that it has some serious issues connecting to the internet. On either Safari or Firefox the browsers will work sporatically but will inevitably become unresponsive, causing the need for me to force quit and re-open them, sometimes just to have them become unresponsive again. Basically I just get the rainbow pinwheel of death almost every time I open a browser. Anyone else with this problem or a fix for it?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Make sure you have specified a Primary and Secondary DNS server in your System Preferences/Network/DNS settings, also try adding an OpenDNS server to the list as a backup.

  • MacBook Pro Network Connectivity Problems

    Hi everyone!
I am baffled with an issue connecting my MacBook Pro to the internet.  My wifi worked okay until about two or three months ago, when it stopped being able to automatically connect to networks.  I simply used my phone to pick up the IP/DNS information, and then entered it manually into network settings.  Then, last month, that solution stopped working, and I am unable to connect to any network via wifi or Ethernet, even when manually entering IP information.
I have restarted my laptop and router multiple times.  Reset the PRAM.  Created a new location.  Deleted and added the network again.  Deleted network settings in Library.  Symptoms are not present on other wifi devices – other laptops and devices connect fine.
    I am running OS X 10.8.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

If you're still on 10.8, then you need to update to 10.8.5 (which, itself, has some bugs) in order to rule out the bugs found in 10.8 through 10.8.4. Use the Combo updater -> http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1676.
If, after updating, your connection problems persist, call back. There's no guarantee that updating is going to 'fix' your problem.
