Macbook Pro - internet suddenly stopped working.

The wifi on all the other devices in the house works fine, except on my Macbook Pro.
I was browsing the internet this morning, clicking around on Facebook and the like when - poof! No more internet.
I have tried everything that google says to try. Airport shows a full  signal. Turned everything off and on again repeatedly. Nothing will  connect on my computer - no Skype, no Firefox, no Safari.
When I open Network Preferences, Airport is green and connected, and yet  there is no internet to be had. Proxies are all unchecked. One solution  said to check the box by "Automatic Proxy Config" - tried that, not  only did it not work, it unchecks itself upon restart.
Tried "pinging" stuff through Network Utility, as one website suggested.  Not sure what was supposed to happen when I did that, but it "seemed to  ping fine", I suppose. No error messages or anything like that.
Anyways, I want to puke because of how frustrated I am. Please help!

Hi ...
Nothing will  connect on my computer - no Skype, no Firefox, no Safari.
Might be something in this article  Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity you have not tried yet ...  renewing the DHCP lease may help.

  • MacBook 2008 wifi suddenly stopped working and says no wifi hardware. Took it to an apple shop, they said it could be the airport card but wouldn't do anymore then that.  Any help on how to fix this? How do I know if it is the airport card or not?

MacBook 2008 wifi suddenly stopped working and says no wifi hardware. Took it to an apple shop, they said it could be the airport card but wouldn't do anymore then that.
Any help on how to fix this? How do I know if it is the airport card or not?
is there anything else I can try first?
    thanks

If the technician at the shop is competent, he has given you a diagnosis that should have identified the problem.  You could run the Apple Hardware Test to verify the findings:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257
Note the Apple Hardware Test is not definitive.
Go to the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com web sites.  They have parts and installation instructions.  To install an Airport card is fairly easy.

My MacBook Pro speakers are stopped working and on screen volume icon shows in gray colour I am unable to change the volume.

Go step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers.
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and  remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
Try this even if you don’t see the red light.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
        Do this twice
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the appropriate method.
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so,uncheck it.
    6. System Preferences > Sound> Sound Effects
        Play sound effects through:
Select "Internal speakers" and then back to "Selected sound output device".

  • Macbook internet suddenly stopped working a week ago?

My Macbook's internet has been working absolutely fine (sometimes it disconnects after sleeping, but reconnects quickly) for the past month. Recently, about 2 weeks ago the internet stopped working. My Macbook can definitely see wireless networks, and when I type in the network key it says I'm connected for a bit, with the wireless logo on the top right of the screen with all 4 bars full, but I just don't have any internet. Skype, Safari etc won't work, because clearly no internet is coming in... I have no idea what is wrong!? My internet is definitely working (I have a netgear wireless router) because it works on my desktop. I think the internet stopped working on my mac around the time when someone tweaked the settings on my router. But surely my macbook will automatically update these when I connect to my network? Please help!?

Is your desktop a windows machine? What happens if you turn it off? I had trouble today with my apple products connecting to the internet through my wireless router, but when I turned off my windows laptop, and rebooted all routers & apple products, they work flawlessly now. I haven't turned the windows laptop back on again for fear it will "break" everything again. I'm wondering if I'm the only one, or if it's a windows thing.

  • Internet Suddenly Stopped Working

    Hi,
My eMac, running 10.2, suddenly stopped working with my Internet. It shows my router, but when I open a browser, it says it can't find the server. However, my iTouch and laptop can both load with the same router and modem. Does anyone know what I should try to fix this? I didn't open up the case or anything and have tried Safari, Firefox and IE. None have worked.
    Thanks

There are various glitches that occur with internet connections. My first suggestion is to disconnect the power to your router, leave for about 10secs then reconnect the power. This resets the router and its link to the ISP and sometimes resolves such problems. If this works the problem might still recur at times but at least you can get up & running again.
I would also suggest that you check with the router manufacturer's website for a firmware update for your model and instal this. This software is part of the router's internal operation not part of your computer's software even though the upgrade is usually done through one of your computers.
If these don't help I suggest you consider software maintenance/upgrades for your eMac. Various software components, eg preferences, can become corrupted and need to be replaced/upgraded from time to time.

  • Macbook Pro - Usb port stopped working

One of the 2 USB ports has suddenly stopped working and will not recognise any device.

Reboot the system and try it again.
If it still doesn't work thjen you can try a SMC reset and a PRAM reset and if that doesn't work then it's time for a trip to the Apple Genius Bar.

  • Mid 2009 Macbook Pro SATA Superdrive stopped working

The CD/DVD drive suddenly stopped working.  I used it to listen to CD-R one day, the next day, I tried to load a rented DVD into the slot and it wouldn't go in - not even a little.  At first, I thought that I had forgotten to eject the CD-R, but I had rejected it.  There is nothing in the slot, but I cannot load a disc.  I've read other posts where people have been able to load the disc part way or it loads and then immediately ejects, but I cannot even get the drive to start loading.  There is resistance.  It feels like something is blocking the slot.
This happened a while ago - before I upgraded to Mavericks.  The computer was running Snow Leopard when the problem first occurred.  I was hoping the upgrading to Mavericks might help.

Did you try resetting your SMC?
Resetting the SMC of an Intel-based portable Mac with a removable battery
Note: This will not delete any data.
The SMC is responsible for controlling various system functions. None of your data will be deleted by resetting the SMC.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the Power Button for 5 seconds.
    Release the Power Button.
Reconnect the battery and the MagSafe power adapter.
Press the Power Button to turn on the computer.
    I hope I helped.

  • My MacBook Pro mid 2012 stopped working completely.

It was fully charged, and I was on battery, and all of a sudden it stopped working. The display went black, and powering on doesn't work. LEDs don't light up after pressing the charge indicator button even though I am sure it is (almost) fully charged.
I tried connecting the power adaptor and the green LED doesn't glow. There seems to be some problem with my MacBook since my charger is working fine with other MacBooks of my friends.
Connecting another working adapter, and powering on didn't work either. It has been 7 months since I brought my MacBook, and I am running Mavericks. I have contacted the support, but they say I have to take it to the store.
Unfortunately, there are no Apple stores nearby my current location, and nearby ones are like 5 hours away from here.
So, I wanted to ask - Am I missing something? Is there something I can try now?

    Hello Bharadwaj6,
Try resetting SMC by following the below Method.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • My 4th row of keys on my mac book pro just suddenly stopped working and i have no idea why? Can someone help me fix them?

My 4th row of keys on my mac book pro just stopped working all of a sudden, does anyone know how to fix it?

Which model MBP do you have?
If you are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare, call them.  Let them deal w/it.

  • The Logic Board of my MacBook Pro Retina Display stopped working.

I purchased my MacBook Pro Retina Display 13 months ago. Barring a few errors the computer functioned beautifully, and I maintained it with the care it deserved. On Wednesday, last week, the laptop ceased to work completely. It wouldn't start, or charge. On submitting it for repair, I was informed that the logic board failed. Since its warranty lapsed a month ago, $1050 is required for its replacement. That outrageous amount is more than half of what I paid initially for the laptop. The service provider would not agree to any concession, or plea.
For an Apple enthusiast, it is very disheartening to learn that its foremost product stops operating in this manner. I am a high school senior, who has accustomed himself to his computer, and cannot at this time purchase a new laptop, let alone a Windows laptop. With college admission deadlines fast approaching, I solicit your help and suggestions, very desparately.

As much as it will suck to hear this answer, there really is no solution. Because the computer is now out of warranty, you have to pay the full $1050 to get the logic board replaced. I know this is a large sum of money, but you have to remember that the logic board includes the CPU, Graphics Card and RAM, all soldered onto the board. You're paying to replace all of the most expensive components of your computer, even if only one of them failed.
So, long story short, you'll have to either pay to replace the logic board, because it's out of warranty, or buy a new computer.

  • Macbook Pro trackpad partly stops working after 1 touch

I have a very strange problem with the trackpad on my macbook pro (late 2008, fully updated, SSD, 4Gb).
When a mouse is used all is fine. WHen I touch the trackpad ONCE, it will stop working correctly, it will:
    - not detect a single click
    - will detect a doucle click
    - mouse moving (one or two fingers) no problem
IF the SMC is reset (unplug/remove battery/hold power button 5 sec/put battery back/ plug in power/start up)
all is ok, BUT after 1 time use the trackpad the same appears.....
    I have sofar tried:
    - SMC (described)
    - PRAM reset
    - disk utility (recover/fault detect)
    - restore from time machine
    - Yasu
nothing new is configured, the only thing i can imagine is that I moved the mac, while it was running, from its place and walked away from the place were the connected bluetooth mouse was located.....
    anyone any clue?

    Tx Ogelthorp,
But this did not work; one strange observation:
While not touching the trackpad from start after reset it works with a seperate mouse as it should.
Then one touch on the trackpad and it is ignoring the single click BUT SO IS THE MOUSE?
so no hardware fault I guess as it is exactly repeatable...
    any other ideas?
    gr/d
