Macbook Pro - iPad compatibility?

As I mentioned in an earlier post (like 3 minutes ago in fact), my sister got hereself a nice shiny new Macbook Pro. I have a nice shiny iPad and I was wondering, since they both have bluetooth and all, is there a way for the two to communicate?
I'm not sure what information they could exchange... maybe some pictures or Word files. Some kind of chat could be cool. I was also hoping I could take her iPod Touch and make it into a kind of remote control, for when we want to watch DVDs on the Mac. There must be some kind of app for that, right? Converting your bluetooth capable handheld into a Mac remote?

I don't think if they were connected, you wouldn't be able to do anything with them. And the remote application works for the iPod touch. It only works with itunes, but it might be helpful.

    Maybe this.
Fix iPhone Apps Stuck "Waiting" During Installation
Try update the apps one at a time

  • I'm having trouble with "maps" on Macbook Pro, iPad and iPhone.  It shows my current location and hour away from where I am.  As soon as a move iPhone away from my wifi at home to cellular it shows my correct location.  No help from Time Warner.

What can I do to get "maps" to work on my Macbook Pro, iPad and iPhone when connected to wifi at home.  iPhone "maps" work fine when connected to cellular service. Maps on wifi shows me about 55 minutes away from my current location.  Very frustrating.  I called Time Warne,r my service provider, but they had no answers since they were not knowledgeable of this situation.  Anyone else having problem?  I just updated all devices to newest update.  Is that the problem.

Did you bring your wireless router with you? If so, it's possible the iPad is getting its location through the router and the router still "thinks" it's where you used to live.
Try taking your iPad to another location where there is wifi (such as a coffee shop). Then, try an app that uses location services. If it's accurate at another location, then the source of your problem is your router.

how do you permanently delete apps from all your mac products (MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone)

They are not taking up storage space.  Apple knows you installed them at one time (="purchased", whether you paid money or not), and merely keeps a list so that if you wish to reinstall any of them on this or a future device, you can.  This is useful if maybe you deleted them due to space constraints, and now have a device with more memory and wish to reinstall.
It's also useful for taking a trip down Memory Lane looking at all the useless apps you installed once then immediately deleted once you realized they were total garbage ...

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Did you fail to back up your pics?
The photo sync is one way - comptuer to ipod.
You can e-mail them to yourself (instructions in the manual), but they will not be of the original quality.

  • Music from MacBook Pro/iPad/iPhone never streams immediatly

    Anybody recognizes this problem?
Everytime that I start a musicfile from either my MacBook Pro, iPad or iPhone I have to switch the audio output back from ' Apple TV'  to 'Computer' and than back to 'Apple TV' otherwise the Apple TV is automatically switched on but no music sounds... My idea is that with the first time I choose it Apple TV is switched on, but than has to me activated, which only seems to be possible doing one step back (choose Computer) and than again one forward by choosing the Apple TV again.
I was hoping that this problem was solved with:
    Apple TV Software Update 4.4.3
    Feature
    Summary
    Audio output
Addresses an issue in which audio may not play through the optical port when the TV is turned off.
But there still seems to be some problems with this...
    Any solutions or suggestions?!?

  • Questions about mac mini iTunes server, streaming to macbook pro, ipads, etc.

I'm thinking about getting a mac mini to work with my NAS as a iTunes server. I have a bunch of questions about this. I will have two iPhones, a few iPads, and a laptop that will be accessing the files. I have iTunes match. This is basically to keep an always on computer for hosting the music/movies. My questions are as follows . . .
#1 Are there any good, comprehensive guides to show you how to do this?
#2 Can the movies be accessed when not at home on the shared network?
#3 Can the iPads or the macbook pro download the shared movies to be stored locally?
#4 Back to #3, how will it work on my macbook pro with listening to music (I have iTunes match)? Say i go to library and I break out my macbook pro and I don't have internet. What happens if I download music while at home onto my macbook pro to listen to it when I go to the library? Will i start a new library on my macbook pro? How will that mesh with the home server when I come back.
#5 Is there a way to mirror files or folders? So something that I have on my macbook pro will also mirror on the home server.
Thanks for your help on this. I'll post any follow up questions.

    1. I want to replace the Optical drive with a 2TB SATA. can I use this 2.5 inch?
I do not know if it is the same model number, but this one will work in your MBP:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/SEAGATE%20OWC/ST2000LM003M/
    2. I want to replace the HD with a 128GB SSD 840. When I replace these drives, will my OS still be in tact? I have never done this job before.
No. You will have to format the drives in Disk Utility>Erase to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then install the OSX by using the original install disks.
3.) I want to replace the ram sticks to max capacity. This is 2 2GB sticks, Correct?
No.  An early 17" 2008 MBP will accept 6GB RAM with the following specifications:  200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.  The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
    4.) Most difficult...
I want to extend the monitor wirelessly to a projector. I thought about using Apple TV and Airplay. However, support for airplay is for MacBooks 2011 and newer. I thought of using a PS3 and the media server, but I think this brings on a format compatibility issue. (my library is so large I could not afford to convert all my movies to MP4.) So, how would you recommend I put my extended monitor with VLC player onto a projector?
Could I possibly connect the MBP to a Mac Mini as an extension? would this work natively? I would rather use a VGA cord than F with 3rd party app BS.
    Cannot help you there.
5..) I want to Bypass iTunes this time around. I would prefer to use Finder and VLC to manage all of my music. I mostly play all my music on shuffle, so, could I create a playlist on VLC with all of my music and play it randomly? (im sure this is possible but i'd like to organize all my plans with confirmation.)
You are not obligated to use iTunes.
6.) Can i upgrade the keyboard to backlit? i've read that this is possible.
All MBPs have back lighted keyboards.  Your either needs a NVRAM reset or a repair.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro, iPad IV and iPhone 4S Cannot Connect to Server

I have a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion 10.8.5, and an iPad IV, both less than three months old. I also have a pair of iPhone 4s's.
All of a sudden none of them can reliably connect to our AT&T Wireless home internet. There are particular websites we are blocked from viewing, notably any apple website, including apple.com, apple support, itunes, and App store, but also random ones like Wikipedia and others. We constantly get the "cannot connect to server" message. Yet other websites load right up with no problem.
Many  websites are seriously snarled up, particularly Ebay, which is a critical one for me to have quick access to. Ebay screens are scrambled and out of order, act like purchases are being made when they're not, and photos don't show. All we get is little blue questionmarks.
Multiple  PCs running on our home network work just fine, and we can get into any website with them. But ANY apple product is just stymied. We can turn off wifi on the phones, and get into websites with 3g, but as soon as the wife is turned back on, we're back to square one.
Nothing has changed on our network recently, although we did get a new router about three months ago after having consistent outages. I have noticed our wifi getting glitchier and slower as time goes by,  but again, it affects the Apple products, until it just went totally haywire last week.
My husband gets wifi at work just fine, and I am accessing wifi quickly and accurately on the MBP at this very moment on a museum network.
The issue seems to be the AT&T home network, and very specifically with the full line of Apple products.
Any clean and easy suggestions? I don't want to have to jump through hoops on four different products, and I now suspect it's something to do with AT&T?

    Pleeeeeeease. Somebody? Anybody?
I can't get into Facebook, or Ebay on my MacBook. Life is too short to weep and lose hair over computers. Surely there's a quick fix I just haven't thought of?

  • I keep trying to sync things among my MacBook Pro, iPAD, and iPhone.  Usually this works fine for a few days, but then I notice that the calendars aren't syncing and the "notes" aren't syncing.  How can I get them all to stay in sync?

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite, version 10.10.2.
    I have an iPad 2 running 8.1.3
I have an iPhone 6 Plus running 8.1.1
I have my Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Notes set up to sync over iCloud among the three devices.
I haven't had a problem with the Mail or Contacts syncing (at least not as far as I know), but the Notes and the Calendars don't seem to stay sync'd up.  I will notice that they aren't sync'ing, will delete and re-sync and they are fine for a while, but inevitably they stop sync'ing at some point.  This has been true through earlier incarnations of operating systems, so not something new.
How can I get them to sync and stay sync'd?

There used to be a tab under Itunes that allowed you to select to sync things like calendar, notes etc. but this is no longer there, can anyone help?
This was removed in 10.9.  You may have better luck getting assistance in the relevant Mac forum.

  • Interesting iMessage Problem between Macbook Pro/iPad 1

I was recently forced into getting a Macbook Pro (I would have preferred an iMac if I had to buy a Mac at all) and everything has gone as well as can be expected (background: I build PCs and am a Linux user. I am proficient in Mac/Windows/Linux with my preference being Linux > Windows > Mac) except one thing:
The person I talk to the most with iMessage has an iPad 1 and about 90% of their messages appear NOT DELIVERED (red !) immediately when they try to send them.  I can send them messages, and they receive them.  I've had one single message fail in the way their messages fail to deliver, but had no other problem with messaging anyone else or receiving other messages.
    Any ideas?

  • How do I set up printing on Macbook pro, iPad, iPhone

I have two homes with Century Link home networks with wireless routers, we use this Macbook pro, two Ipads, two iphones, as well as pc's. We have an Epson R3000 photo printer and an HP envy 114 (airport) how can we make all these computers work on both printers.

For the MacBook Pro and the other PCs, add these printers as you would add any printer.
For Mac OS X Lion (10.7.x), that would be in System Preferences > Hardware > Print & Scan. Unlock the padlock if necessary, then click the "+" below the list of printers, and follow the printer-specific addition procedures.
The iPads and iPhones (iOS devices) can only print to AirPrint-capable printers. The Epson R3000 doesn't seem to have that capability, but the Envy 114 does claim it. Assuming the iPad or iPhone is on the same network as the Envy 114 at the time you attempt to print, the iOS device should find the printer among the available print devices.
For the Epson 3000, there are programs that you can get to allow the MBP or other Mac to act as an AirPrint device on the network and pass the print job along to any printer the Mac can reach. I use one called Printopia. There may be such programs that run on Windows PC; I do not know.
For the Windows PCs, you should ask on a Windows forum, perhaps one specific to the version of Windows that you run on (each of) them.
