Macbook Pro is failing me in several ways

Hi everyone,
I first noticed my computer was being strange when I had to type in the wi-fi password everytime I opened it even though all of my preferences were selected correctly. Then, my preferred network was properly listed as my top preferred network in my settings, yet everytime I opened the computer a notice would come up saying "None of your preferred networks are available. But these ones are:" and then the first one listed would be my preferred network.
Also, I can't go on any website without my mac telling me that somebody is trying to impersonate the website, whether it be facebook, scotia online, etc. Apparentley everyweb site except for google is unsafe and can't provide proper certification or something. So I called Apple, and they sent me a Mac OSX Snow leopard disk so that I could erase my hard drive and install the new software [ currently have Mac OSX Lion] and my computer would be at factory settings, thus erasing any viruses which I thought I had.
Now, when I try to install the Snow Leopard software, I restart my computer, hit the options key, and select the disk and my computer is stuck on the same screen and is making three consequetive beeping noises which apparentely means there's an issue with my RAM. I read somewhere else though, that Snow Leopard isn't even compatible with my 2011 Mac. Why would Apple give me this option then? Would my computer make that sound just because they aren't compatible or is there actually an issue with my ram? Could a virus do this? I noticed it right after my mother was on a sketchy casino website.
What should I do? I start another semester at university in two weeks and I really need my laptop.
Thanks to anyone who answers!
Samantha.

No, personally I have never had this kind of problem.
Try to wait a minute, if it still won't let you in press and hold power button for 10 seconds. then press power button again to start computer.
If it boots this time correctly - run disk utility to check and repair permissions and disk.
Additionally there is an update just issued by Apple form macbook Pros 2012. it might be that this update is working and thus slowing down your boot process. If not after booting the computer and repairing the permissions check for updates.

Remove the drive and put it in an external enclosure. Backup the drive completely. Repartition and format the drive. Replace the drive into the computer. Take the computer in for the logicboard replacement.

my macbook pro got stolen, is there a way to track it down?

Not if you had not already installed and configured software for tracing it.  If you hadn't done that before it got stolen, your only option is to report it to the police and let them handle it.

My question is I want to buy MacBook Pro special specifications but found several languages at the option of the keyboard I want a picture if you choose the keyboard language is Arabic as well please, I want a picture of the plate you include the keyboard letters in Arabic, English or Arabic only together?

The only photo I could find of a 'genuine' Apple Arabic keyboard (NOT a keyboard cover/skin):
It's from an older MacBook, it looks like, but I imagine that the MacBook Pro keybaord would be similar.

  • AirDrop transfer between Mac mini (late 2012) and MacBook Pro (late 2008) works only one way.

AirDrop transfer between Mac mini (late 2012) and MacBook Pro (late 2008) works only one way.  I see both machines on both airdrop windows. Firewalls on both machines are set exactly the same way, and with Network Browser set to allow.  Can send a file from Mac mini to MacBook, but not the other way.  Never get a window asking to accept on the Mac mini.
Found no useful documentation on AirDrop anywhere in the whole support site.

Maybe this will work. From an Apple support article.
You can also use the Share button to send files to your neighbors via AirDrop. In a Finder window, select the item you want to share, and then click the Share button in the toolbar. For more information about the Share button, see this help topic:

Unfortunately not if you use separate ID's for your iCloud accounts.

  • I just purchased a new iMac, and I want to sync my contacts and iCal from my older Macbook Pro.  What is the easiest way to do this?

I'm not sure how to sync contacts and iCal between my older Macbook Pro and my new iMac.  I've searched on Google for a few explanations, but they seem fairly complicated.  Are there any easy ways to make this happen?

Is this a  one time sync or do you want to keep them synced all the time?
If it's a one time sync you want to use Setup Assistant to migrate your data from the old machine to the new one. You can use the Lion Setup Assistant tips for help.
If you want to always keep them synced you have several alternatives. First is you can wait for iCloud which will be released this Fall according to Apple. You can find information about iCloud at www.apple.com/icloud. Several years ago I began using a tool called Synctogether which syncs Bookmarks, Calendars, Contacts, Widgets, Dock Items, Mail Accounts and Mail Signatures. You just check what you want synced, for example I do Bookmarks, Calendars and Contacts. This app sells for about $49 I think, however if I were you I'd wait for iCloud which will give you 5GB (which is a LOT) for free.

  • Macbook Pro not booting up all the way, weird problems

Last night I was using my Macbook Pro, closed the lid then came back later and when I opened the lid it wouldn't wake back up. Shut it down by holding the power button, then tried booting it back up. You can hear the CD/DVD drive spin up, (got my copy of X-Plane in there) but nothing else happens. Keyboard backlights never turn on, display stays dark, and the sleep light never lights up all the way either, just stays dim. Leave it for a few minutes, then close the lid and the sleep light gets bright like the computer is awake, and you can still here it running.
Sounds like classic SMC issues right? Well tried resetting that several times, no luck. Reset the PRAM while I was at it as well, no luck. Really not sure what's wrong now.
Macbook Pro was purchased spring '08, can't remember all the specs off the top of my head but it was the top-of-the line processor, 2-gig of ram, the nvidia 8600 video card. I've heard that there have been some issues with that card however I'm not yet convinced that this is a video issue. Software update ran just a few days ago, so I'm running whatever the latest version of mac os X is. (10.5.??)

Here's a link to the NVIDIA program:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
There is a specific test they run to diagnose this problem. If it pulls the right error code, you get a free logic board replacement. Print out a copy of the article and take it along--oddly enough, there are still a few Apple guys that don't seem to be familiar with this program.
So far I have not experienced the NVIDIA problem myself, but I have read a number of posts about it. Some people have reported multiple problems--some so severe that their Mac won't boot up enough to run the test. However, since your Mac sounds unusable the way it is, you may as well make an appointment at the genius bar and see if you qualify for a replacement logic board. That could cure many things.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook Pro to TV via HDMI - image way off center

Early 2008 15-inch Macbook Pro to TV via HDMI worked at first, now image is way off center on TV (like only showing a sliver of the computer image at the edge of the TV screen). Philips says it's an issue with the computer settings, not the TV. Any suggestions?

    Hello clamb1993,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
You can use the following article to troubleshoot your HDMI out connection:

  • 2009 macbook pro does not boot, restarts half way through boot. Has hard drive crashed?

My macbook pro 2009 froze and shut off. I restarted it and only boots half way then it restarts on its own. I have tried entering cmd R to verify disk and permissions. My disk in unmounted and the SMART status says not supported. Error was found but while trying to repair it said: Disk utility stopped repairing. Disk utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible , reformat disk, and restoer your backed up files. I have tried to restore from time machine and it wont let me do that either. Has my hard drive crashed?
Also, About 2 months ago i installed new RAM so I now have 8GB instead of 2GB and everything was working well up to that point.

I am having the exact same issue. I can only log into the system in safe mode. Holding down the Shift key when turning the machine on, until the log window appears.

  • Hi I would like to totally reformat my Macbook Pro. What is the best way to go about it?

I have a Macbook Pro and would like to do a complete reformat. I installed Moutain Lion when it came out and do not wish to pay again since I've already paid. I have OS 10.6.4 discs with me which didnt come with my MB but with my previous one. What is the best way to go about it? I have bootcamp and wish to get rid of it (one of the many reasons of wanting to reformat)
    Thanks

You can use the Boot Camp Assistant to remove the Bootcamp Partition  - best way to do it.
If you use the Recovery Disk Assistant to create a recovery usb thumbdrive you can boot to that and repartition the MacHd and reinstall the OS directly.
When you purchase the OS you are free to reinstall without repurchasing as long as yo have access tot he Apple Id you used to make the purchase
