MacBook Pro is "supposed" to electrocute you!
Just been on the phone to apple about a weird problem i was having when charging my shiny new macbook pro. I kept getting quite painful little electric shocks from the casing when using the power adapter. Apple told me that this only happens when using the short 'duckhead' bit on the adapter, and the problem does go away when using the extension for the adapter (due to the longer cable having an earth connection).
What supprised me the most though is that the tech i spoke to told me that what i was experiencing wasn't classed as a problem by apple, and was "supposed to happen" (their words!) and because of this they dont fix it. I could hardly hold the laughter listening to the technician tell me that my new £1600 computer is "supposed" to give me electric shocks!
Sort yourselves out apple! It's just not right!
Anyone else had this?

MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)
You're the US mate, I'm guesing your extension cable is 2-pinned. the problem is solved because in the UK we have an earth (ground) on our sockets, it's just not connected up on the duckhead adapter. I'm afraid you're stuck with it, apple aren't going to help.

as far as i know, the battery in my macbook pro is supposed to last 1000 cycles. it's gone throught 700 in 1.7 years. i have apple care. is a new battery covered under applecare???
Basically only for the first year and only if Apple deems it defective. It is seen as a consumable item and not covered under Applecare.

Hello,
after a sofware update, my macbook pro was supposed to restart,
since then the start up process begins & after few seconds, the mac goes back to off without starting, what's wrong ?
thanks for any support,
AmineLet me add a little bit of details,
after the software update, I was asked to restart my laptop,
while doing it, I got a message error :"some files couldn't be updated".
Since then, everytime I start my macbook pro, I have the grey apple & screen, with a kind of updating bar (grey as well) at the bottom,
when the bar reaches approximately 30 to 40%, it disappears & the laptop swiths off.
Ihave tried to start on a safe mode, it doesn't work either,
thanks -
Hi, I can't insert a pontuaction mark in a password (which I did until yesterday) to acess one of my accounts. I don't remember the master password, so I can't change that one. I have a MacBook Pro and 10.6.8. Could you help me, please.
What I'd do in this situation:
connect both macs to same LAN
turn them on
login to new mac
go network, find your old mac
connect using "connect as" button (up right of window)
use credentials from login you can't access - mean user name and password. If you still can't add that ~ you can copypaste password there from any text editor
You will get full access to all data of that blocked account - just copy all you need
Other way:
connect both macs to same LAN
turn them on
login to new mac
on new mac run "migration assistant" from Utilities folder
tell there that you want import account data from other mac
follow instructions of migration assistant
thus you'll import account to new mac - but probably with filewault enabled and same password, I didn't check this in such situation
Try first method first ) -
MacBook Pro....things you need to know before you buy!!!
Helpful hints before you buy your MacBook Pro 15 or 17 inch:
1. New MacBook Pro...does not have a firewire 400 port!!. If you have to transfer data from an old (2 years old) MacBook Pro to new one...need a 800 firewire cable or a 400 to 800 cable!!
2. New MacBook Pro with HD Cinema 30 inch. The two items are not compatible unless you purchase the $99 Dual (not single), I repeat Dual..."Mini Display Port to Dual-Link adapter:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MTA4NDU1NDM
The reason I am posting this is that I bought a MacBook Pro 15 inch on Monday and I specifically told the Apple people at the store what I had: 2 year old MacBook Pro and Cinema HD and what I would need and they sold me the mini single adapter. Nothing worked. Went to the store 3 times and no one could help me. Finally a guy from Australia, on this forum, was able to answer my call for help!!! I actually had to take his email into the store and show it to the Apple folk and they finally got me the correct adapter. Today is Friday, 4 days later and I am finally able to work on a project that has been on hold while I figured out something fairly simple...so much for these "Apple genius people." Just think the problems I would have had if I had an older Mac laptop or a PC laptop?!?@!Hi kleeks,
Glad you got it sorted in the end!
To be fair, most of the Genius bar people are very good and your experience was probably not typical, but it is also worth remembering that some of us here have been using Macs since before some of the Geniuses were even born, so we often know a thing or two that they may not have cottoned on to yet! When in doubt, a second opinion here can often be well worth obtaining.
Really glad you have it running as it should now.
Cheers

how do you permanently delete apps from all your mac products (MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone)
They are not taking up storage space. Apple knows you installed them at one time (="purchased", whether you paid money or not), and merely keeps a list so that if you wish to reinstall any of them on this or a future device, you can. This is useful if maybe you deleted them due to space constraints, and now have a device with more memory and wish to reinstall.
It's also useful for taking a trip down Memory Lane looking at all the useless apps you installed once then immediately deleted once you realized they were total garbage ... -
Occasionally, I will close my Macbook Pro when I'm not using it, and when I reopen it my wireless network shows as being connected, but the internet will not function whatsoever. I tried disabling the WIFI and re-enabling it but the problem persisted. Ultimately I have to just restart then everything works fine. I even tested my cell phone (which uses my home WIFI also) and was able to pull up websites, which isolates the problem to the computer.
Seems like after the computer goes on Standby or Sleep, it only has the trouble immediately after. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much but none of that helped. It was driving me crazy because it would back up another external drive. I just changed the name of the drive from iPhoto/iTunes Library to Media Libraries and IT WORKED!! I guess for some reason it didn't like the drive being called iPhoto or iTunes ???? I don't understand but I have tried so many solutions and exchanging things out but the name change did it????!!!
Thank you for your help and replying to this. Guess I made my own issue! -
Title says it all. My old PowerBook G4 had the keypad accessible with the "fn" key. I just realized my brand new MacBook Pro, doesn't. How in the world do you access the vital preview controls, such as RAM and audio preview?
Please help!
Thanks.^Unfortunately, not any more. As I mentioned above, Apple have removed Numpad functions from the current release of MacBook Pros (released February 26 2008). I have a 17" MacBook Pro that is about 8 weeks old, and can verify this is the case. No Numpad toggle. The Numpad variants are no longer printed on the keys because the Fn key no longer provides that functionality.
This issue is being complained about all over DigiDesign and Apple's forums and The Cow. Strangely, a few of the Fn-key variants still work: Fn-Return=Enter, Fn-Arrow keys = PgUp/PgDn/Home/End. But you cannot create Numpad entries using the Fn key.
This is confirmed on the "switch To A Mac" website:

What does "You can't open the application "Setup QuarkXPress6.1" because power PC applications are no longer supported" mean? I am trying to install an old version of Quark on my 2010 Macbook pro.

As has been mentioned, the software in Mac OS X that supported the running of PPC applications rather than current Intel applications on Intel computers such as your MBP was last seen in Snow Leopard. However, since I believe your MBP originally came with Snow Leopard, you may be able to boot from the DVD's that came with the computer and install it on an external HD and try to install Quark on that.
I think a better solution would be to buy Snow Leopard Server from Apple by phone (800-692-7753 and be specific about wanting part # MC588Z/A), installing it as a virtual machine in software like VMware Fusion, and then installing Quark 6 in that. You'll still need a license number to authorize the Quark installation. -
HT1338 how you download counter strikes go in macbook pro??
how you downloa counter strike go in macbook pro??
Looks like you can buy it on Steam for $15.
Do not, whatever you do, follow Anudeep's instructions and download it illegally from some Russian site... that's a good way to get malware on your machine, not to mention that it is illegal. (Watch how fast his post will disappear!) -
What program do you recommend to download movies onto my macbook pro
what program do you recommend to download movies onto my macbook pro
iTunes.
Not sure what you're asking. You don't require any software other than what your MacBook Pro already has. If you ever encounter a popup window indicating you need something else, it's a scam and you should ignore it. -
As I click Face Time application in my recently purchased MacBook Pro, it tells me that you have already a newer version of Face Time...But I don't know how and where I can access this newer version in my machine and make it operational.. Please help
