MacBook Pro iSight not working

Hi! I have my MacBook Pro for almost 4 years now and ever since I have not encountered any problem with it not until few months ago. I was working with my output during that day and I put it to sleep using the monitor part. After a while, my laptop would not turn on like I tried using the charger, etc. So I brought it to the Apple Center right away. They could not fix it and they have told me that my LCD needs to be replaced because my camera can not be detected and that the processor needs to be replaced. After knowing the things to be replaced and the cost, I was almost decided that I should just buy a new one than having it repaired because those two combined cost more than a new laptop. After a month, I tried my best to open my laptop and there it opened but the sad thing is, the camera cannot be detected in Photobooth, Quicktime, iMovie, Skype, etc. I have also checked in the system profiler and there is no iSight thing there. I have tried resetting the SMC thing already but still no solution. Please help? Thank you!!
PS I have updated to Mavericks a month before the "crash".

I've had my Macbook Pro for just over three months and used the built-in isight frequently, but yesterday it simply stopped working. (The irony is that I was talking to several people about how much I love my mac when I opened photobooth and discovered a blank screen.) The green light is on in all the applications I've tried and it still shows up under "utilities" in the system profiler, but the screen is blank each time I try to use it. I've tried all the tips I can find online, but it still won't work. Is there anything else I should attempt before taking it in for service?
Welcome to Discussions, Graceful Hope
It seems you are doing everything right!
If you have tried everything except taking your new Mac for service from
  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
and the behavior is the same in every user account you test, have it serviced now.
The AASP will soon have you happy again so you can continue to enjoy the new Mac!

  • MacBook Pro iSight not working after 10.6.5

After upgrading to 10.6.5 the iSight on my older MBP Core Duo no longer works. It shows up as detected in the System Profiler, but when I try to access the camera through Skype, iChat, FaceTime, and PhotoBook all I get is a black screen and the green light doesn't come on.
Skype says "camera in use by another application" even though nothing else is accessing the camera.
    PhotoBooth returns a black screen.
FaceTime doesn't load properly, only returns a black rectangle of a window.
I tried uninstalling the Google video/voice plugin but that didn't do anything. I repaired permissions several times, that didn't help either. Any thoughts?

As a follow up, I rebooted and reset the PRAM, checked the camera on another user account, and still have the same problem.
    Two ideas, jmcopeland
    (1) try all relevant suggestions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your iSight problem still occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the PMU (SMC) reset suggested there often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
    (2) If the problem still exists, aapply the Combo Update. If you don't already have a trusted Combo update method, use this one:
     • Backup you Mac
     • Disconnect all peripherals
     • Restart your Mac
     • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions
     • Download and install http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324
     • Repair permissions again as soon as the update is complete
     • Test iSight again per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090

Yuu can try to reactivate your iSight camera by opening up iMessage.. navigate to Preferences/Audio Video, and then click on Camera. IT shoudl be grayed-out if you only have one camera hooked up to your machine. If you have an external camera, then disconnect it from your machine.

  • The sound on my macbook pro is not working

The sound on my macbook pro is not working. When I increase the sound, the icon appears as if everything is working, but no sound comes from the speakers. Earphones don't work either. I have tried a PRAM reset but at times, this doesn't even work. It's really frustrating having to restart my computer every time I want the sound to work, and even when I do that, theres a 50 50 chance of it working again. It generally happens after my laptop goes to sleep and I wake it up. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it or even know what caused it?
There are a lot of discussions around the earphone jack but I have checked that. I've tried a PRAM reset which hasn't worked, and my sound output is set to Internal speakers.
    HELP!!

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

My MacBook Pro keyboard not working correctly after Win7 bootcamp installation.
Installation went well but when I boot either with OSx or Win it always keeps Windows keyboard.

Hi - I have the exact same model as your MacBook and had a few questions as mine is acting up. I upgraded the ram to 8gb (2x 4GB ram) and ever since then my computer has not been running as smoothly and the start up time is horrendous. Have you encountered this problem? And if so how did you fix? What would you advise me do?
I was thinking of reverting back to the original factory 4GB then rebooting the entire computer. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

  • The sound on my Macbook Pro does not work.

The sound on my Macbook Pro does not work.  When we press the volume buttons, the sound icon pops up, but the bar is full with a small "Does not work" circle below it, and nothing happens when I hit volume up or done.  I went into system preferences, but there aren't any options there that I can see to change it.

"Unfortunately, it doesn't provide any help for a MacBook Pro, other than indicating to call Apple Support" (sic).
Au contraire. TS1574's title and affected products are thusly:
"Troubleshooting issues with no audio from built-in speakers on Macs
Products Affected Mac mini, MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac"
As a result, the instructions of the article are relevant. To be sure, follow those steps, the last of which is to contact Apple.
So, by way of reminder, here are the steps to troubleshoot the audio on your MacBook Pro. There is no red light, so the port is likely fine. Headphones work, so clearly your sound card is fine.
    1. Ensure an incorrect version of OS X is not installed. If one is, then reinstall or erase/install after backing up your data.
    2. Remove any external audio devices from USB, firewire, etc.
    3. Open Sys Prefs > Sound > Output
If Internal Speakers is listed, select it and test again.
If Digital Out is listed, confirm again that all external audio devices and cables have been removed.
If mute is selected, unselect it.
If the volume slider is low, raise the volume.
If the above simply doesn't fix it, the issue may be a corrupted plist. Apple Support might be able to help troubleshoot the issue further, per the last step of TS1574.
I hope it gets resolved for you. Good luck.
