Macbook Pro just ran out of battery, when I tried to boot up it cannot locate the HDD.

So as stated above I mistakenly left my Macbook Pro on and it ran out of battery. When I tried to power it back on again it just goes to the folder and question mark logo. What happened? Did I kill the hard drive ?

Let it charge overnight.

Wait for advice on repairing a damaged filesystem.  Forceshutdown stops processs in mid-stream and leaves some parts not-valid.
Do not proceed until you get that avice.

  • My Macbook Pro 2014 ran out of battery while mid-slideshow. Now the slideshow won't skip through photos and I can't figure out why? Macbook Pro 2014 13-inch Intel i5 8GB RAM 128GB flash, iPhoto library is on external HDD

    Macbook Pro 2014
    13-inch
    Intel i5
    8GB RAM
    128GB flash SSD,
    Integrated Graphics
iPhoto library is on external HDD
I was in a slideshow, with around 1,911 photos in it. About halfway through, my Macbook ran out of battery. Now when I restarted and charged the Macbook and reopened iPhoto, the slideshow won't advance through photos, and I can't figure out any reason why it would do this.
I thought it may be corrupted, so I deleted and reinstalled iPhoto library, iPhoto itself, and disconnected and reconnected my external HDD.
This didn't work, the photos still won't advance.
I don't know any reason why this would be happening, and there is ample space on my internal drive.
I'm happy to provide more information if needed!
    Many Thanks,
    James

Make a few tests, James, to narrow down the problem and find out, if the slideshow is corrupted, your iPhoto Library, or settings in your account.
To test, if only your slideshow has a problem, create a new slideshow, just for testing. Just use "File > New Slideshow" and add a few photos. Does this slideshow play correctly?
If the test slideshow does not play either, create a new iPhoto Library. Use the File menu in iPhoto: File > Switch to library > Create New. Import a few photos and create a slideshow.  Does it play?
If even a new library does not solve the problem, test in a different user account (see this document:  Isolating an issue by using another user account - Apple Support):
This process involves creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue.
Create a new standard or admin user account in Users & Groups preferences.
Use these instructions for OS X Mavericks.
See these instructions for OS X Mountain Lion.
See this video, or these instructions for OS X Lion.
Optional: If you have any specific files you wish to test with, copy (don't move) those items to the /Users/Shared folder in the Finder.
Log out of your current user account by choosing Log Out from the Apple () menu.
Log in with the new account you created.
Attempt to reproduce the issue you were seeing in your regular user account.
After you have completed testing, log out of the test account by choosing Log Out from the Apple () menu.
Log in as your regular account.
After you have completed all testing with the test user account, you may want to delete it. You can delete an account in the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences.
Note: Prior to deleting a test account, make sure you are completely done with it. If you have files in the Guest User you wish to keep, you should copy them to the /Users/Shared folder .
If you should find, that slideshows only play in a new user account, post back.

    You might start with:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
If the above reveals nothing helpful, then create a new user account. Log out of your account and log into the new account. Do the problems cease?

Can I trace back my stolen phone using IMEI/ Serial Number? My phone ran out of battery when it was taken in November 2011 (Barely bought for a month). I didn't manage to activate any application to help me find my iphone back.

If you know anyone who has an iphone/ipod go on to app store and go on find my iphone. Download is (it should be free) and type your phone number in. It should then come up with a map and show you where your missing iphone is!

  • My ipod classic ran out of battery, when I turned it back on all my songs were gone. How can I recover them on a windows vista computer? Also, the itunes on my vista does not have all my original songs. Please help

My Ipod Classic died because it ran out of battery. Finally, today when I was able to plug it into my computer to
charge it, all my music was gone. It did not show up on the Itunes nor was it present on my Ipod. Which freaked
me out.  I dont know what to do because I do have Itunes but all the music I had on my Ipod was from my
first computer, which I no longer have because it was stolen.  However, on my Itunes it says my Ipod
has 14.27 GB used and 13.55 FREE. So I just want to know how to get my music back on to my Ipod
and that it shows up in Itunes again. I have a Windows Vista so if anyone knows instructions it would
    be greatly appreciated!

  • My iPad mini ran out of battery when installing an app and now the app has gone?

I updated Quiz Up today while my iPad mini had 2% battery left! and I thought this would be enough but just as the update was installing my iPad ran out of battery so I immediately put it on charge! when my iPad turned on the app was still there but was darker and said 'waiting' underneath, so I then went to the App Store to continue to update but when I went to the updates section the update was gone, I them we to back to the apps location and the app had gone, so I went to reinstall it but it only said open next to it, and when I press this it does nothing, I would like the app back but I don't know how to get it back, any suggestions? I thought the all might be corrupt but I can't delete it and reinstall it because the icon has gone and it doesn't show up in spotlight, so what do it do?

    Maybe:

  • My MacBook Pro is spitting out my DVDs. I tried many discs and they all got spat out. Its an early 2008. The drive is a HL-DT-ST dvdrw GSA-s10n. Do I need a new drive?

Hi.  Need some help here.  My MacBook Pro is spitting out my DVDs.  I insert them and they knock around awhile making whirring noises, then out they come.  Refuses to play them.  I've tried many.  I have an early 2008 model and the drive is a HL-DT-ST dvdrw GSA-s10n.  Do I need to get a new drive?  Thanks for any help or comments.

My old Early 2008 MBP used to do that every now and then in the last years of its life. Got a dry-type optical drive cleaner, the kind that is a CD with 4 rows of very fine and soft bristles glued on the "business side". Memorex was the brand I got, good for 20-30 uses.  Ran it thru every time the drive acted up, never failed to restore functionality.
Of course, the Mac would later go on and blow its logic board. And that was that.

  • When my MacBook Pro i7 runs out of battery, it powers off.

I can't seem to figure out why my new macbook pro turns off when it runs out of battery. Typically, when macs run out of battery, they go into sleep mode. However mine skips this completely and just turns off. Any similar problems? any ideas?

I have an update regarding this issue. Since receiving my new MacBook Pro, I have calibrated the battery 3 times. Here are my findings of each calibration when the battery reaches 0% charge:
1st calibration: MacBook Pro enters SafeSleep (saving contents of memory to HD) and powers down (no pulsating light indicating memory is still being maintained until plugged-in or battery reserves are depleted). Plugging adapter in and powering up results in memory being restored from HD.
2nd calibration: Same as 1st calibration
3rd calibration: MacBook Pro shuts down without entering SafeSleep. Plugging adapter in and powering up results in normal boot sequence with logs indicating improper shutdown.
SMC and PRAM have been reset prior to these calibrations.
pmset -g returns the following (looks normal to me):
    Active Profiles:
    Battery Power 1
    AC Power -1*
    Currently in use:
    womp 1
    halfdim 1
    sms 1
    hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage
    gpuswitch 2
    disksleep 10
    sleep 0
    hibernatemode 3
    ttyskeepawake 1
    displaysleep 10
    acwake 0
    lidwake 1
I don't think this is the intended behavior for this MacBook Pro. I've started a case with AppleCare and I hope an engineer will respond to what I'm experiencing as I don't think this is normal. It appears that the MacBook Pro is not accurately determining the bottom threshold of the battery. It thinks there are reserves when there is actually none, causing weird behavior at the end of the battery charge life.
Anybody else experiencing this with their MacBook Pro 15" i7?
Will update as soon as I find out more.

  • Can I get my Macbook Pro just checked out and tuned up at the genius bar?

I'm having a hard time getting my questions answered. Basically I've had my Macbook Pro for four and a half years, but it's still doing mostly fine. It's just showing it's age slightly I think, with more spinning wheels than usual and odd things like the date is usually set to 1999 when I turn the computer on, but it rights itself in a few minutes. Also most the time when I plug it in it says it's not charging and I have to try multiple times. None of this is a huge deal, it's just that I really need the computer to last me preferably at least another year, so I worry about it a bit. I do take good care of it though. I'm about to move out of the country for a year, so I'd like to get it just checked out and perhaps tuned up a bit so that any problems are taken care of and it's in the best shape before I move away. I'd like to make a genius bar appointment, but the closest Apple store is a two hour drive from my home, so I don't want to go into it not having any idea how much it will cost or if they'll even be able to do what I'm hoping in the span of a single workday. I really don't want to have to drive back later to pick it up or have it sent off somewhere to be repaired, although if it does have serious problems I'd be willing to do that. I'd just like to know going in to it what the price range is likely to be like. I don't want to make the drive to the Apple store and have them tell me it's going to be a few hundred dollars just to have my computer looked over. And I don't even know if they offer that service, let alone if they can do it in a single afternoon. I've tried calling the store and conversations with the automated person really are not helpful. He just tells me to go online and make a reservation, and I can't figure out how to get my questions about cost and service answered.
Also, am I being foolish hoping my four and a half year old Macbook will last at least another year or two? I have no idea what the "life expectancy" is for these things. I know nothing really about computers at all, so forgive my ignorance.
Any help and insight is very much appreciated.

The genius bar technicians can check your MBP for possible hardware problems and specific software issues that you may have.  The diagnosis will be free.  Any extensive repairs will not be free.
If you have minor software problems, you essentially will have to deal with them yourself.  Examine these two comprehensive documents for possible problem definition and solutions.  If you encounter problems that you are unable to cope with, start a new discussion and there will be persons willing to assist you in solving them.

  • Macbook Pro 2012 keeps dying/losing battery when closed and not plugged in.

My 2012 13 in Pro just recently started doing this. Most of the time I keep my laptop plugged in but just two nights ago when I unplugged it to go to sleep and shut the lid completely, when I went to wake it up the next morning the battery was dead both times. My battery cycle is still normal for the notebook's age. What is the problem?
