Macbook pro keeps logging me out after using migration assistant
Hello All,
I have a Macbook pro (bought it two years ago). It used to shut down automatically. Took it to Apple after backing up using time machine. They installed a fresh OS on it and took everything else out. I made a dummy account and no more shut downs happend so I migrated my old account over using MA. Now all my accounts are there but as soon as I log in, it logs me out !!! no error message.
Help would be appreciated.

How were you able to run a disk repair? Did you do that from an install disc?
Can you boot into "single-user" mode? If so there are some commands you can run that will allow you to look into logs files, where you might find the reason for your problem.

My MacBook Pro instantly logs me out after logging in
Every time I log on to my Mac Book Pro 10.6.8 the desktop loads and then instantly logs me out and returns to the log in screen. I am able to log on in safe mode, but can't figure out what's wrong.
I've reset the PRAM and SMC, repaired all permissions on the Disk Utility, booted it in single user mode to check the /sbin/fsck -fy and the /sbin/mount - uw / rm /var /audit/current commands, but nothing has changed.
The day before this happened my Mac suddenly started to only type in caps and load in safe mode, I figured it must be a stuck Shift key, so cleaned it, but when that didn't work I downloaded KeyRemap4MacBook. I then used this to disable the left and right Shift key. For a while after it appeared that only some of the keyboard reverted back to normal and the rest remained in Shift mode, but then the next day the keyboard completely returned to normal. That is when the log in issues began. The Shift keys also still appear to function, which I didn't expect after disabling them.
I am not techno savvy, so any advice would be much appreciated.
ThanksYep! It's' a known problem I'm afraid, very common indeed with that card. Nothing that can be done AFAIK.

Recently my macbook started logging me out at random times and then I thought that maybe if I updated the software it won't do it anymore but whenever I go to click on the software update icon it logs me out. I'm worried that this might be something serious. Any ideas?

I need help! I shutdown my computer last night and when I tried to login again this morning, it keeps logging me out
after I signed in.
After successful authentication, I can see the desktop for 1 second and then .. it signed off automatically and return to the authentication window.
I tried safe mode, file repairs...
I created myself another admin account in single-mode (remove the .AppleSetupDone file in /db and I'm able to use that admin account
to log without any issues!
a) How can I check my original admin account for errors?
b) Where can I see the startup error log for that account?
c) How can I disable all startup items for that account?
d) or .. any thoughts?

Skype keeps logging me out after windows 10 update
Ever since I updated to Windows 10 a few days ago, skype keeps logging me out after 10 min or so. I read other posts all which suggested unlinking your account from your microsoft and/or Facebook account, which I tried but it didnt help. I am not linked to either of them. I am using the desktop version of Skype, not the windows app. I never had any problems before this windos 10 upgrade. Any ideas?

When I am listening to the radio (streaming through itunes) my macbook pro will log me out, quitting all the applications I have running (often firefox, word processing, itunes, etc). Why?
It's very frustrating and I don't understand why it happens. It might happen other times, but I notice it the most when I'm streaming the radio through itunes, though I think it's also happened when I'm streaming music or shows from NPR, so I don't actually know if it's an itunes thing, or an internet thing? Or just my computer being stupid? But how can I fix it?

It seems clear to me that sometimes, seemingly randomly, software will access the video card (flash player, quicktime, Safari's HTML5 video player, etc) and it will cause a freeze and then log out.
However - it could just be video card + processor under load.
This didnt happen before 10.5.8 and I'm thinking it's not the new 27" display causing the issue.
I'm going to attempt to find time to revert back to 10.5.0 and then combo update back up to 10.5.7 which may be difficult as our IT is remote and we don't have access to Snow Leopard discs.
I may just have to bring my own in. -
When downloading application updates, which are over a GB, my MacBook Air keeps logging me out and I have to start the download over. I have the power settings set to never turn off, and the display set to never go to screen saver. Any suggestions?

Lost list of my wifi networks after using migration assistant / time machine
After using migration assistant / time machine to set up my new Mac I now miss the list of stored preferred Wlan/WiFi networks. So the passwords of wireless networks I. Used in the past are all gone.
Why is time machine not putting those on my new Mac as it does with many other settings?
How can I manually grab this list from my old Mac and out it on the new machine?
Will I find that time machine missed some other lists and settings as well?
Thanks for help.I've been working through this procedure this week. It's pretty good, and when it works it appears to work quite well, but there's still some bumps in the road:
(1) Once you've migrated, Time Machine itself seems to be a little confused and future backups may fail. You might have to start again by changing to a new Time Machine disk on your new laptop. You may lose your older backups, it's not yet clear to me.
(2) You can't restore from a previous backup during the migration, only the most recent one. (You can restore from an older backup using tools on the install CD if you need to.) I suspect this won't be an issue for you.
(3) Migration Assistant once you've logged in a Migration Assistant while you're starting up a new machine seem to work slightly differently. For example, sometimes the newest copy of the applications in your Applications folder (say, iMovie) is preserved, sometimes it makes an exact restore of the old Applications folder even if it's an older version of the application.
Overall it's been a pretty good experience, and what you want to do does work, but be prepared for the possibility of some issues. I tried this back in 10.5.0 a few months ago and had a lot of problems, things seem better now under 10.5.2.

I transferred files and photos from MacBook to iMac via ethernet cable and using migration assistant. However every time I transferred, it created a separate user and it transferred all files and photos again and again. So now I have 3 users accounts with all files and photos saved 3 times on same iMac !! Any idea how to avoid this ?
Yes, you ran into a very understandable problem.
When you use Migration Assistant, it cannot over-write the account that you happen to be using at the time. Upon migrating accounts, it will tell you that it is going to create a new one, but that message is easy to miss.
If you have three identical accounts, log in to the account you want to keep, and delete the redundant ones in System Preferences > Users & Groups.
Now that you know, the easiest way to migrate accounts is to use Setup Assistant when you first get a new Mac. That eliminates any possibility for this to occur, but most people are so eager to use their new Mac that they elect to migrate later.
That's OK too, but in that case you would want to create a temporary account whose sole purpose is to run Migration Assistant so that you may migrate your old one with an identical name. Be sure to give the new account Administrator privileges. When that finishes you would log in to the newly migrated account, and delete the temporary account. -
How to migrate PowerBook G4 Tiger to new MacBook Pro 15" Lion via ethernet cable? Migration Assistant to old to update, apparently.
Ah, a Powerbook. I miss that. Anyways, I believe that the Powerbook G4 has an Firewire 400/800 port. Why don't you do that? It's fast, and you don't have to set up one of those funky reverse wire ethernet cables. I wouldn't use Migration Assistant, but that's just me. Too many issues. I'd start up your brand new MacBook Pro and during the setup assistant, it'll ask you to transfer data from an older Mac. Using firewire with a Target Disk Mode, it's pretty fast.
If you have already opened up your new Mac and are using it, then use Migration assistant, but also with the Firewire (preferably 800). -

After using "migration assistant" from my old iMac to my new iMac, some tools stick while using Photoshop CS 6 Extended. My current operation system is 10.10 Yosemite. I was wondering if UN installing then RE installing CS 6 might solve the problem. If this is recommended, I would need complete instructions on doing this. I have there serial number for the product.
using migration assistant is problematic.
at this point yes, you should uninstall everything migrated, clean and then reinstall properly using the installation files.

There is no option to sync Tasks with my exchange server. Mail, calender and contacts works fine. Is there a 3rd party app that does the job well? I did a search but nothing was obvious. Even if one is avaiable I was wondering it if really works well
