MacBook Pro kernel panic on wake from sleep
I need some advice. Over the past few days, my MacBook Pro has been experiencing kernel panics when I open the screen and it wakes from sleep. The panic is immediate; there is no lag or time between opening the computer and the initiation of the event. It appears to be intermittent however and I wanted to get some input on this before I start troubleshooting it. Perhaps I may need to have Apple take a look at the unit but I would like to solve the issue (if possible) myself.
One thing I did notice is that the kernel panics started only after I recently updated Mac OS X with the most recent Security Update 2006-003, Quicktime 7.1 and Front Row 1.2.2. Not sure if this is related however, it is interesting that the panics started almost immediately following the software update.
Here is the panic log:

One other thing I noticed that could or could not be the problem but is sure curious is the option in the Energy Saver control pane for automaticly dimming the screen before sleep. I first noticed when I got my MacBook Pro that this option was enabled without it be marked as on. I checkmarked it then unchecked it again and the screen did not appear to dim before sleep anymore. However, since the last kernel panic on Monday, I have reenabled the option thinking it could possibly be this. It's kind of far fetched I know, but my system has been stable for past 2 days so perhaps this software flaw in the Energy Saver is the blame. Sort of makes sense since this timmer for dimming is activated before sleep of the display which might corrispond with some part of the sleep/wake system of the computer and/or Mac OS X. Later, I am going to try turning the dimmer off and cycling the computer from sleep to wake and see if I get a panic. I'll keep everyone posted as to my results.

Macbook Pro (2008) won't wake from sleep?
Two days ago, a day after replacing an old battery, my 2008 model Macbook Pro refused to wake from sleep. For the past 48 hours it has been doing one of two things.
A) It will act normally, except that the screen is blank (make the start-up sound, and sound as though it's running when I try to wake it)
or
B) Act as if it's sleeping.
I have tried:
-Resetting the SMC
-Resetting the PRAM
-Restarting the laptop from battery power
-Restarting with it plugged in a battery removed
Someone gave me the idea to hook up an external monitor, and see if it's my screen, but it's in the "Don't wake from sleep" stage at the moment. It's is out of warranty, so I want to see if anyone has any solutions or suggestions before I pay someone to take a look at it.
Thanks!I'm convinced the price of repairs is a ploy to drive up new sales figures! As are these convenient 'catastrophic' hardware issues! It's odd that every post asking about this fault crop up after 4 or 5 years of impeccable reliability, it's like they are self destruct to force you into the clutches of an overly friendly assistant who leaves you wanting to invite them round for Sunday dinner because your nan will adore them! Ahhh well shiny new apple things do fill the void in lives only satisfied by something over priced to stroke and adore!

Macbook Pro 13" won't wake from sleep
Have mid 2009 Macbook Pro 13" that repeatedly won't wake from sleep. Either putting to sleep via lid closure or sleep command, seems to enter sleep OK. Sleep light slowly flashes indicating sleep. When I open lid, light goes out but screen doesn't come on. I have hold power button down to force it off and reboot. Very annoying. Occasionally, the laptop is warm and you can hear the fan running.
I have taken to Genius Bar twice to no avail. They could duplicate the problem the first time I had it in and ran some type of software repair. Didn't permanently fix issue. Second trip they tech thought it might be one of the two internal sleep switches. She ordered them but when they ran diagonsics on those switches, the said they were good and didn't replace or repair anything.
I have replaced both HDD and RAM and reinstalled 10.8 but problem continues. Any suggestions? Not sure if this will help--but my MacBook was having similar problems. It would fall asleep and then when I would try to wake the computer, the screen would stay black but the computer was running.
Here is what I tried:
Turn of your mac
Press the power on button
Immediately after you press the power on button: hold down the following 4 keys:
Command + Option + P + R. Continue to hold them down until you hear your mac make the power on sound twice. Once you hear it twice, let go of all keys.
This should re-set the sleep settings. Worked for my computer, I hope it works for you if you haven't already tried it. -
New MacBook Pro 13" won't wake from sleep
Been having this problem from day one. MBP is only a month old.
Every time the machine goes to sleep it will not wake. No response to mouse or keyboard commands. Each time I have to do a force shut down and restart the machine. Not ideal.
Local tech guys had a look and said taht the machine wasn't saving a sleep image, they fixed that, ran some updates and the first test I did the machine did wake from sleep. Unfortunately that same night it was back to it's same no-wake state.
Anyone have any ideas as to what's happening here? Not sure if this will help--but my MacBook was having similar problems. It would fall asleep and then when I would try to wake the computer, the screen would stay black but the computer was running.

Kernel Panic on wake from sleep (iPhone only)
After trying to upgrade to Mavericks a few weeks ago I found out that my hard drive had failed. I took it into the store and they replaced the hard drive. Now, with the new hard drive also having Mavericks, I have been having kernel panics when I try to wake it up. I always plug my phone into my computer when I am sleeping to charge it. When I wake up and attempt to wake my computer up there is always a kernel panic (and I mean, literally, always) and I have to hard reset the computer. This doesn't happen when I wake it from sleep after work (when my phone has not been plugged into it) so I kind of came to the conclusion that it was an issue with having my phone plugged into it while it is sleeping. Obviously, the easy answer is to just plug my phone into the wall to charge it, but I would rather address the issue I am having rather than just finding a workaround. Here is the last log from the kernel panic I had this morning if it helps.

Thunderbolt Bus: MacBook Pro, Apple Inc., 22.1Ok, so I guess it is not a kernel panic. I was under the impression that's what it was. Under System Diagnostic Messages I have that same log from almost every day since I got my computer back.
Any ideas what would be causing that? As far as plugging my phone into a separate charger, I will do that if it is the only option. I know that this was never an issue before upgrading to Mavericks, so I figure it is something to do with Mavericks, not the computer itself. Maybe I am wrong though and plugging the phone into a separate charger is the only option. -
Macbook Pro Retina freezes on wake from sleep
Ever since the Mavericks 10.9.2 update my computer "freezes" on waking up from sleep. Each time I wake it up I require a password immediately, and about once a day (out of 5-7 times that I wake it up) I will put in my password, the password field becomes grayed out, acknowledging that I hit return, and then does nothing. It doesn't become unresponsive (I can still move the mouse), but the computer doesn't unlock.
I left it sitting like this for 30 minutes one time and it just sat on this screen. If I put it back to sleep or shut the shell and try to log in again it does the same thing.
The only way to resolve (that I've found) is to do a hard shutdown, which has led to the loss of some unsaved work.
Doing a hard reset once (sometimes twice or three times) a day is pretty frustrating. Is anyone else experiencing this problem and has anyone found a fix?One other thing I noticed that could or could not be the problem but is sure curious is the option in the Energy Saver control pane for automaticly dimming the screen before sleep.

Kernel panics on wake from sleep: my solution
I was getting kernel panics about once a day, always when waking my Mac Pro from sleep (running 10.5.1). The panic logs mentioned USB. After unplugging my USB peripherals one by one, I finally unplugged my keyboard from my 23" Cinema Display and plugged it directly into the Mac, then unplugged the USB & FireWire connectors that connect the Cinema Display to the Mac. Ever since then, I've had zero problems.
Spoke too soon - here's the crash report that goes to Apple - any clues anyone?
*When I read these reports is it correct that the thing to focus on is the _BSD process name_ that's the issue of the crash* that I should get from this report as useful info? I know, clearly it's more than that, but what does the report tell Apple that's so important and how can I learn to make use of the report myself? Here it looks like it's a coreaudio issue maybe.... ????
Thx
A.

Ok so my MacBook Pro 17" with osx 10.6.8 will not awaken from sleep mode. when attempting to wake it up the screen dosent come on and the mouse and keyboard do not receve any power. to get back on the computer i have to force a hard restart by holding the power button for 10 seconds then pressing it again. then it boots to where i left off when i closed the lid. i have read a few forums about this problem and i have went through all the steps of reseting various things and went as far as going into terminal using sudo to disable safe sleep and nothing helps. i noticed an unusual error in my console. here is a copy of my console log. the one in question is {7/14/13 4:52:43 AM com.apple.UserEventAgent-Aqua[118] dontAutoLoad = EMPTY!} someone please help me I am over 150 miles from the nearest apple store or authorised retailer

Kernel panics on waking from sleep
Hi
I have a problem with my MBP, which is up to date with all the latest OSX and firmware updates as far as I can tell.
Quite often - at least once a day on average - the computer will go into a kernel panic on waking from sleep. It's not every time, and I haven't noticed any pattern in terms of battery state or whether it's connected to the power adaptor.
The computer wakes, and responds to keyboard/trackpad for about 2-3 seconds before grey comes down the screen and I get the box asking me to restart the computer.
I didn't have this problem before 10.5.6 although I did have some more minor problems with an earlier version (10.5.4 I think).
Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this? Could it be anything to do with using an external HD networked to my router for Time machine backups?
Thanks
julianThe problem seems to have become less frequent since I installed 10.5.7 and (ii) turned off automatic Time Machine backups to the NAS. I now just run TM manually when I know the computer is going to be on for a while.

Hi,
I have an Imac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo desktop which I have upgraded to lion.
Recently I keep getting kernel panics when waking from sleep mode and I cannot figure out what it is.
I am not very computer savy - I.e. I use a computer but don't know programming etc.
The computer then asks me to shut down and restart.
Any help would be much appreciated as this is driving me crazy.

DaveHi, for other peoples information - I finally figured out the problem. It was actually a faulty RAM module which I had bought. I had upgraded from 2 to 4 gb of RAM using an approved type of RAM for my particular computer. Finally I removed one module of RAM (after doing nearly everything else under the sun including trying to reinstall the operating system and wipe the computer etc) and the computer worked fine.

Kernel panic when waking from sleep
My eMac (1Ghz, 256 Mb RAM, dual boot OS 9.2.2/OS X 10.2.8(upgraded from 10.2.4)) has a recurring but intermittent issue where it suffers from a kernel panic when waking from sleep.
In the past I managed to fix the issue by resetting PRAM and NVRAM, but this doesn't seem to work anymore.
Things I've found out until now:
- Apple Hardware Test and Techtool Deluxe can't find anything wrong (all tests are passed).
- No kernel panic log is written - apparently the kernel panic occurs before the log can be written.
- Crash appears to be network-related. My IP address and network card address are shown at the bottom of the panic window.
- After restarting, Finder windows revert to a state from two or three days ago...
- Login items aren't the problem. I removed them all - this doesn't make any difference.
- no weird things in the startup items folders, AFAIK.
I'm on the verge of reinstalling OS X, but I think I already did this a couple of years ago, and it didn't help.
Please help.
ThomasNominally, you'd download the OS X Update Combo 10.2.8 after reinstalling 10.2.4, then use Software Update to identify any additional security and other software updates. There was an issue with early builds of 10.2 failing the 10.2.8 udate if done directly, but working fine if one first updated to an intermediate version such as 10.2.6; I think that problem affected 10.2 through 10.2.3 and your 10.2.4 should be good to go directly to 10.2.8, but if there are any problems, you can go back to 10.2.4, then search the Apple Downloads link for 10.2.6, then 10.2.8
With 10.2.x, it's prudent to run Repair Permissions after each OS and security update before moving on to the next. -
Macbook pro screen dims after waking from sleep?
Does anyone know why my macbook pro screen dims when waking from sleep or waking from my screen saver? I can't get it to stop doing this. Thanks.
It sounds like I have the same thing happening. It's more like the colors are washed out, like there is less contrast. I have a hot corner set up for my screen saver. Once I activate the screen saver for a second and then deactivate it, the Macbook screen goes back to normal. I have a 30" Samsung 305T monitor set up as a second (main) screen for when I'm working at home, which is most of the time. I haven't had it unplugged from the Macbook since this started, so I don't know if it happens by itself. I do know that the Samsung looks fine when waking up from the screen saver at the same time.
I tried to find others with this problem in this forum, but got tired of looking through all the other posts that had nothing to do with this problem.
Can anyone help us? -
Newest 8-core Mac Pro won't always wake from sleep.
Recently I have been experiencing my Mac Pro not always waking up from sleep. It is a 2.4 Ghz 8-Core running Snow Leopard. I am using a USB keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse. I am noticing that it is becoming more frequent and it's starting to worry me with how expensive this computer is. If I had to guess, I would guess that it happens more often after long sleep durations. The only way to get it to turn on is by holding down the power to turn it off and then doing a reset. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Chad GHey Guys,
I was able to go a solid 19 days without having the issue occur. This is what came up today:
