MacBook Pro late 2010 i7 2.66 crashes randomlly while using expose
Hi everyone:
My MBP late 2010 with i7 2.66 cpu and 8GB memory was working fine untill I updated with Mountian Lion. It crashes randomly while using expose option (both trackpad gesture or keyboard).
And the panic report says:

Any suggestions on this.
Happens only when using expose. every other thing is fine.
You have what one poster here describes as the 'Edsel' of MacBook Pros. According to your kernel panic, you have one of the mid-2010 models with the defective NVIDIA GPU.
Even though your experience is not the same as noted in this - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US - article, it's the GPU. Apple should replace your logic board free of charge.
Good luck - be sure and print out the KB article when you take your machine back to the Apple Store.

Macbook Pro Late 2010- High Temperatures, Low Load
So, before I say anything here, I've just recently had a logic board replacement. I was having some serious issues which it did fix, but some must be from another reason.
Firstly, I dont know if this is normal, but my Macbook Pro (Late 2010 model, 15") gets extremely hot, sometimes doing nothing more than Photoshop or even broswing the internet. I have it on a flat surface, where the fans have room to expel the air, and although they appear to be running normally, it doesnt seem to help.
I have also experienced issues with the charger. My last charger stopped working unexpectidly, and already the new one I got shortly before I took the laptop to be repaired is having issues. The connector is getting extremely hot as the other did before it died, and the LED light is not on most of the time, yet the laptop is still being charged.
The laptop seems to get hottest on the top left corner around the escape button. There isn't much of a noticable difference in temperature on battery versus power supply.
Thanks in advance for any help.Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, you may have to contact Apple again.

Macbook Pro late 2010 build Lion OS extremely slow
I have a Macbook Pro late 2010, purchased with OS Snow Leopard. I then upgraded to Lion with the result that all native and added applications open, perform, and close extremely slowly. Mail is the worst, with opening sometimes taking 20 seconds, closing longer. I would appreciate any ideas for a remedy, short of removing Lion and and reinstalling Snow Leopard. Thanks

macbook pro late 2010 battery at 24 cycles for 15 weeks computer and capacity is already 93%, anything wrong?
How many cycles depends on how often you drain the battery down low and then recharge it to maximum, ideally use it a little less on battery and a bit more on mains and the cycle count will slow down. Every couple of months you need to re-calibrate the Battery for best long term results.

Hello everyone,
I had an absolute shocker and spilt some water on my macbook pro late 2010 addition.
However the laptop itself turns on fine, charges normally and the trackpad works just the keyboard itself unfortunately doesn't want to work.. Occasionally a few keys will work, but thats about it.
I basically want to get rid of it as I have recently purchased a new mac.
Could someone possibly lead me in the right direction as to where to sell my laptop and for how much it'll go for? Or would it be a better option to get the laptop repaired and then sell it on? Either way I'm not actually bothered as long as I get a reasonable sum for the laptop.
Thank you very much,
ParisDamaged, it is not worth much to people as the cost of repair may be too much. You can try http://www.gazelle.com/

My Macbook pro, (late 2010) sometimes will sleep and won't wake up. then the sleep light flashes. What's the problem
Hi I've been following this thread (along with a different one on the same topic). I've been having the same problem with my ibook. I can add that I have no problem with startup. It's just that the screen "goes to sleep" unexpectedly and may operate normally for a few minutes or a few hours at most. Opening and closing the lid or restarting seems to cause it to awaken but then usually for just a few seconds or minutes. If it is connected to another video display that display continues functioning fine even though the computer screen is blank. In addition the desktop is there and visible faintly or if totally blank can be backlit through the apple logo and can be read. I've had my logic board replaced twice under the extended warranty and assumed it was that but now I'm thinking of the reed switch. Apple refuses to consider any further work under warranty as the last repair was in Jan, 06 and they claim only a 90 parts warranty and the machine is from 03. Any thoughts before I cut the wires? I have reset the pmu, run cocktail and disk utility. Other than the sleep issue the machine works fine. thanks Ronda or anyone else who has any ideas... Dave

I got the following message after the crash, it happens a few times a day, my system is the base with 16gb ram late 2013 15" macbook pro retina. it only happens when i am connected to an external display, I do have a converter from vga to displayport. also, i run 4 different browsers in incognito mode as i do web testing and also have about 30 tabs open and excel and a few other apps open, not sure if this is what makes it happen or if it is the external display? it is under warranty, so if you see anything below that may relate to the hardware i can bring it in and get it fixed.

MacBook Pro (Late 2010) not booting up properly
I have a late 2010 MacBook Pro that will not start up properly, when I hit the power button the screen flashes white with the chime but no apple logo. The screen then turns off and the white indicator light starts flashing(at normal sleep speed) a few moments after bootup. During this process the magstrip stays solid green the entire time. While the front indicator is solid I tried making sure my screen brightness was not down or if I could turn up the brightness on my keyboard (which I couldnt) and the green light for the caps lock wouldnt come on either.
I have read through some other posts and have reset the NVRAM and tried to boot into safe mode, however I can not do such a thing with the screen turning off right after bootup.
Any help would be greatly appercaited, it was just working the other day and hasnt been moved so I'm lost as to what is wrongKinger2010,
you can try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it reach the login screen now? -

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the replacement program only applies within three years of purchase. If you wait beyond that date, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you'll be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a depot repair.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saver preference pane, but that's not a solution.
Most likely, the logic board will be replaced. Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. -
MacBook Pro late 2010 overheats and disk gets full
Using my MacBook Pro (model 6,2 or late 2010) just with Safari, or chrome and Mail, It gets fans spin a lot the speed decreases and I get a window telling me that there is no more space left for memory usage, but I have 20 GB hard disk free. If i check, I have only 400 mb free. I restart and the hard disk space again is 20 GB free and fans stop spinning a lot.
If you are on the record with a case number, you are more than likely to be taken care of out of warranty.

MacBook Pro Late 2010, Model 7,1 Error in Upgrading to 8 GB RAM
I've been trying to upgrade my RAM to 8 GB from the 4 GB on my MacBook Pro Model 7,1, late 2010.
My 4 GB runs smoothly; I can get 6 GB to run smoothly, switching 4 GB PNY to banks 0 or 1 without a problem.
All memory tests good in either bank.
When both 4 GB RAM modules are inserted, the MacBook Pro hangs a few seconds after the gear starts turning on start-up.
I have now tried two pair of 4 GB RAM modules. Same results every time.
I am running all the OS updates from Apple using OS 10.6.8. I am now running 6 GB RAM without a hitch. Any suggestions on how to get both 4 GB RAM modules to work together so that I'll have the advantages of the full 8 GBytes?
TIA
Jeff
(P.S. Search of pasts posts not helpful.)Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Not trying to be redundant about things you've already tried, but you didn't mention it, so I'll offer this:
Have you tried a PRAM after installing both 4GB modules?
I had a similar problem with a RAM upgrade in a 2009 MacBook Pro.
Once PRAM was reset at power-on (hold down Command-Option-P-R and wait for it to reboot twice before releasing the keys) it worked.
An SMC reset wouldn't seem to be related to RAM, but it doesn't hurt anything to try:

Macbook Pro (Late 2010) breaking down.
Alright, so I bought a Macbook Pro on Black Friday at the Saint Louis Galleria mall. For two years, it's been running relatively well, but suddenly, two months ago, I started having extreme problems.
First of all, the wifi on the computer seems to have gone haywire. 9/10 tries on opening a webpage on any given browser, it gives me an error about the DSL link. Now, I'm not that experienced with technical stuff, but I think this has to do with my computer, since there are three other computers in the house that run on the same wifi, and they are running just fine.
Next, my fan stopped working. It makes weird crackling sounds time to time, and I've tried using SMC Fan Control, but it just rests at 0RPM, and at 150-190 degrees F. Now, I'm pretty sure that's not good for the computer, running at that temperature. This causes the computer to lag uncontrollably on opening any video, or application that takes a medium amount of RAM, for instance, it starts chopping up Youtube videos and iMovie or Skype.
The third problem I'm having is the battery life. It's gone from the alleged 10 hours down to about 45 minutes. Once I unplug the charger, it's a waiting game, it goes to 100% to 50% in about 20-30 minutes.
I wonder if anybody else has had these problems. I have never spilled anything on my laptop, and have never dropped it either. It's warranty lasted 1 year, and I don't have the cash to buy another computer. I have already tried resetting it a month ago, wiping everything off of my computer, but it STILL DIDN'T WORK!! Please help!
Thanks,

Lost FACETIME app on MACBOOK PRO LATE 2010
I lost the app for Facetime on macbook pro when i reinstall the OS. Now you have to purchase it to get it... How do i get it back without purchasing it... i know its only 99cent to get it but i just don't like purchasing anything online...
Greetings Jon,
I'm guessing from your description that you were using FaceTime Beta. With the release of the full version of FaceTime for sale in the Mac Appstore, the Beta is no longer available through Apple. If you have backups (which everyone with anything they care about on their computer should) you could restore the App from your backup.
If you don't like using a credit card online you can go buy an App Store gift card in a local store and add credit to your account to purchase it.
Best of luck! -
