Can you use a MacBook Pro without the keyboard attached?
Hi,
I plan to upgrade the hard drive in my MacBook Pro (MBP) to a solid state drive (SSD). I also plan to remove the SuperDrive in the optical bay.
I have to install a new firmware on the SSD. Installing the firmware requires the SuperDrive.
I intend to remove the SuperDrive after installing the firmware. I'm using a Early 2008 MBP (Pre-Unibody). This MBP is a difficult to dismantle and assemble.
Can I run the MBP (to install the firmware in FreeDOS) without reattaching the top panel (which houses the keyboard). Or can I just lay the top panel on the MBP without screwing it down. Will either of these actions damage my MBP? Once I've installed the firmware on the MBP, I'll reattach the keyboard.
I don't want to dismantle the MBP (to insert the SSD), assemble the MBP (to install the firmware with the CD in the SuperDrive) then disassemble the MBP again (to remove the SuperDrive).
I'd rather dismantle and assemble the MBP once.
Lifting the top panel (which houses the keyboard)

Please let me know.
Thanks!Sorry, Just noticed you were not using the Unibody models.
I am unaware if the power button is dedicated. Seems like you're on the right track with iFixIt. I figure as long as USB is available, it should be okay. -
ahhhh help!
you can switch off the automatic lighting of the keyboard by going to system preferences then keyboard and uncheck 'automatically illuminate keyboard in low light' . after this you can control your keyboard light by using the buttons F5 and F6 at the top of your keyboard

Hi all... My mid 2010 MacBook Pro took a keyboard spill. It still works but the display is very very dark. A faint image can only be seen at an angle in very bright light. I think this model has an LED screen. Can anyone please tell me what the fix for this is? Thank you sooooo much!

Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components). -
Can I pre-order a MacBook Pro at the US online shop with a German keyboard?
I would like to get an MacBook Pro from the US online store, but they dont offer a German keyboard. How to get one?
Further, can I pre-order the Mac and pick it up at an Apple Store in the US?You can't order a MBP with a German keyboard from the United States online store, and you can't order a machine online and have it delivered to an Apple Store to be held for you. You could order a machine with one of the keyboard options that are available in the USA and have it delivered to the home or business of a trusted colleague or friend in the USA, but you couldn't get a German keyboard.

The only observations are that the backup drive is deemed too small and the quite long list of diagnostic reports dated between Jan 18, 2015 (which I believe is the day I upgraded to Yosemite) & today the latest Yosemite update was installed on Jan 28, 2015
Any further assistance will be appreciated -
How to buy a US MacBook Pro in the UK
I'd like to know if it's possible to purchase a US MacBook Pro in the UK.
If so, how? Where? How much would it cost?
By US MBP I mean one fitted with the US keyboard and the like.that stinks about the localization
though you're both right - the customs in the UK are terrible... its money for nothing for them, a lot of it
how do i avoid it being taxed legally? i'm importing it for myself - why would i have to pay?
if i remove or destroy the original packaging - am i exempt?
what if the friend uses the same two apple boxes but writes that theres no computer in there... or what? -
I want to know if the Macbook Pro with the ash key board and as the cd rom infront is more recent than the one with the black key board and as the cd rom on the side.
Hi Tracy,
I'm guessing "ash" is the silver colored keyboard, the same color as the rest of the MBP? If so, that machine, with the optical drive slot on the front, is the older machine. -
Now I am at USA for joining summer program here for 2 months and I really need new notebook now
so is it possible that I will order Macbook Pro with the Thai keyboard from service in Thailand or Asia which have Thai language on keyboard
and ask them to ship it here ?????

MacBook Pro Retina Display - Keyboard Marking Screen
Hello,
The keyboard on my new MacBook Pro with Retina Display is leaving marks on the screen. They wash off with a damp soft cloth. Any suggestions to stop the problem.
Thanks
JoeIn my opinion this is a defect in your MacBook Pro. The tolerances are extremely tight. The keys should not come into contact with your screen whatsoever. I would call Apple tech support to see if it warrants a replacement if you want. I even had a retina MacBook Pro for a couple weeks (before I returned it because of image retention issue in LG display) and there was never any key marks on the screen. If you have a Samsung display though I would be hesitant asking for a replacement.

MacBook Pro with AZERTY keyboard in Hong Kong
I will be travelling to Hong Kong next week.
Can I buy there a MacBook pro with french keyboard (Azerty)?
In the apple store, it seems not possible to configure this keyboard as a hardware option.
In the US store it is possible
thx,
KWhat kind of problem that make me can not ask the store directly? Even me, I couldn't imagine the reason but I'm surprised how your doubt come. Actually, whatever I think it's my privacy.
Anyway, I tried finding inquiry form or customer support email on the Hong Kong online store page but I couldn't find anything. I think if there're anyone got an experience about this here, no matter he/she will work for retail store/Apple store or not. (or only store representator can answer this question?) The opinion could be varity from the people, I think. But it looks like I just answer from this community representator. No one have more idea or think different.
I see the way your thinking, um...community....real community..? help me a lot? -
My macbook pro mid 2009 keyboard and trackpad is not working.
My macbook pro mid 2009 keyboard and trackpad is not working. it was working perfectly fine a week ago and it stopped. i tried using a external wireless mouse and keyboard but only the mouse will work!! They keyboard lights up when it is booting up but when i try to sign in, nothing types or the mouse wont work. i am fine if the mouse doesnt work because i can use an external one but can someone please help me?!
The best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians diagnose the problem.

I am getting no sound on my macbook pro. The sound does not play when I plug in headphones either. I have tried making it louder quieter, restarting my computer, HELP!
There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and anything is plugged in, unplug it before putting the system to sleep.
3. If you've installed something called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and reboot. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
4. If you've installed an equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and reboot.
5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Reboot and test.
9. Boot in safe mode. Don't log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
10. Reset the NVRAM.
11. Reset the SMC.
12. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data. For a possible shortcut, see this thread.
13. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store. -
Can I buy macbook pro with arabic keyboard ?
Hi...!
I am study in USA . and I will buy macbook pro ,but can I buy macbook pro with arabic keyboard ???
thank you...,,,I believe that if you want an Arabic keyboard, you have to purchase your computer from a store outside the US which serves Arabic countries. Your other choice is to use skins on top of a regular keyboard. But, ask an Apple store in the US, or call Apple to verify. You most likely won't find such in stock in any Apple store in the US.
