Macbook Pro - Lion versus Mountain Lion

Hi community --
I have a late 2011 MB Pro with Lion installed it has Thunderbolt but not USB 3. So between FW800/THunderbolt/USB 3, I think I'd be set with a 2012/2013 version. I do a lot of traveling in the field for shoots and feel like the faster USB (and all the other great new updates) would be great for me.
Currently have Lion and all works well, but am noticing that all the Mid 2012/2013 MB Pro's have ML already installed and I'm afraid that some things won't transfer over and work in Mountain Lion if I switch over.
I backup to Superduper. Which has been great and keeps me from worrying about all my applications and files. So do I have the option to keep Lion and downgrade a new computer? Or can I just load the Superduper image onto the HD of the new computer? Will all the drivers work?

The Mid 2012 MacBook Pro is compatible with OS X Lion (they came with Lion in June), but Apple doesn't allow you to install an older OS X version than the one that comes preinstalled, so you can't install OS X Lion on the MacBook Pro, probably by a firmware problem.
As you have a SuperDuper clone, you have to restore the data manually, and never restore the whole clone on the new computer or OS X will stop working. Your Mac comes with a OS X version newer than the one that your backup has got, so you can't use it. Also, restoring manually your files is a cleaner way of restoring everything, without transferring data that you don't want from the old computer

Just buy a numeric keypad that connects to a usb port. I use a 7+ year old kensington that has a 2 port hub built into it.

Thanks for your reply, Clinton. But I already have two readers that are USB-2 compatible. Now I need the one like I described above. I am using only the fastest CF cards available.
I have read some user reports (on Amazon) on two readers relevant to my needs - SanDisk and Lexar - but I'm still not sure whether they are fully compatible with the Retina MacBook and Mountain Lion. As a matter of fact, I doubt it...

Can either of these three connect to the existing router (which is not an Apple router and cannot be changed) wireless?
So we understood that you wanted to connect to the existing router using wireless.
If you can run an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on your existing router to the other house, then you could connect one of the Apple routers that way.
Compare the Apple routers here to find one that might meet your requirements:

I have a MacBook Pro 2012 running Mountain Lion 10.7.5. I've been trying to get the mirroring icon to show up in the bar but no dice. Any tips? I've gone into System Preferences -> Display and there is no option to turn on mirroring.

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). TS3742 MacBook Pro 13" with Mountain Lion Freezing at login and getting Kernel errors

Ive been working on a friends MacBook Pro 13" with mountain lion for about a week now. It is having intermittent kernal panic errors on boot up only. It is also freezing up frequently at apple logo. Disk check passed, reformatted and reinstalled os. Switched out Ram. Still happening. Can anyone help.

Purchasing iLife 11 on disk is an easy thing to do. ILife 11 will include iDVD.
If you have iDVD on another Macintosh you can transfer it to your new computer. That procedure has been discussed here many times, if you do a search you will find that procedure.

Have you updated your itunes to the latest version? You have to have itunes to sync the phone to any computer.

if you are using a SAFARI you don't need to install a flash player, it comes insatlled already, you can check that on safari toolbar.
Help>Installed Plug-ins> and then check for shockwave flash player etc.
i have a early 2011 macbookpro and have never needed to install any flash payer unlike on windows.

Aperture 2 on Macbook Pro (LIon)

I use Aperture 2 on my iMac (snow leopard).
I bought a new MacBook Pro (Lion) and want to put
Aperture 2 on the Macbook then upgrade to Aperture 3.
The Macbook won't take it. Tells me Aperture is not compatible.
I need a photo organizer/editor for the MacBook and if aperture 2 won't
work, does anyone have another suggestion as to what I can do or use.
I'd rather not use full Photoshop (too expensive) and I'm told that
Photoshop Elements 10 will not read Apertures photo library.

For anyone who may be interested..... after a little bit of hassle finally spoke with a
techie in the aperture department.
It seems Aperture 2 is not compatible with the Lion (OS 10.7.1)
You need Aperture 3 (no surprise there).
You can download Aperture 3 from the app store for $80.
Aperture 2's library will be recignized by the Mark 3 program and will be
updated to work with Aperture 3 ...which will make it unuseable by Aperture 2.
upshot is .... if you upgrade to Apert 3 ..you gotta do it on all your computers
or not at all.
actively looking at Photoshop Elements 10 instead. At least that way I can use the same program on all my ,machines and download from one to the other without compatibility problems.

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to destribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That has worked for some, but is not guaranteed to work for all.
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with Lion. You have to buy iLife 11 from online Apple Store in order to get iDVD. You are strongly recommended to do so soon as it will not be available for much longer.
