Macbook Pro - Liquid keyboard damage

Help! Have a macbook pro 2011 and the keyboard is broken! I think liquid may have gotten in there but havent done anything drastic to it like drop it into a bath or anything only think a small amount when i tried to clean it! When i press the enter button it causes 0 to come up and alters the volume up and down as well as when i press other buttons it causes random symbols to appear and my brightness keeps going up and down! is there anything i can do to fix it??0
Sorry if my grammar is terrible its hard to type with a faulty keboard

Do you know roughly how much it would cost for them to fix/repair it? the whole thing is not entirely damaged only a few keys! Thanks for the reply

  • Boot a Macbook pro with a damaged screen with my MacBook

Is there a way to start a Macbook pro with a damaged display by hooking it up to my older MacBook?
I want to see if the rest of the laptop is in good condition before sending it out for a new display.

If you're able to connect them with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable, do so, start up the MacBook Pro with the T key held down, and the other computer with the Option key held down. This will only reveal information about the MacBook Pro's internal drive.

If you are talking about having Thai characters engraved on the physical keys,  you will need to contact some company which does that.  Or find a company that can send you a Thai keyboard to replace the one you have.

  • Macbook pro retina keyboard backlight always on

My new MacBook Pro Retina keyboard backlight always on under room light?
I've to turn it off manually.
But if under sunlight, it doesn't lit which means the ALS is working, may be just not that sensitive enough under ML.
    ML problem ?
I saw those display set at retail is working under room light but running Lion not ML.
Is ML really have problem ?
Should I reverse to Lion ?

No need to revert back to Lion.
May be resetting SMC will help.

  • HT2494 The wireless internet card in my macbook pro 2009 is damaged, where can I have it repaired?

The wireless internet card in my macbook pro 2009 is damaged, where can I have it replaced or is there any alternative way so that I can connect to wifi?
    Thanks

Really? The AASP I went to services both Macs and iPhones (and was actually within that list,) and I was very surprised earlier that they refused to help me with repairing my iPhone 5, even if I voluntarily and expressly said that I am willing to pay for the cost. The service provider said he can't help me with anything and advised that I have it shipped to Singapore (and since that is very difficult for me now, I came here instead to ask for advice).
I will try another AASP very soon and shall update you. Thanks for your help, Clinton!

  • Will AppleCare protect a new MacBook Pro from accidental damages, liquid spills, etc?

I want to buy a new MacBook Pro 13 inch. I need to know what exactly the extended AppleCare plan covers. Does it covers accidents, and if not how much would it cost to fix the computer if there was one? Please help me!!!! I am choosing between Mac and a Dell!

There is no warranty that covers accidental damage, only defects from manufacturing or generic faults.

  • How to get into locked macbook pro? Keyboard doesn't work.

    Hi!
Being the clumsy person I am, I spilled coffee on my Macbook Pro. I love this computer and there is NO apple store within a good distance from me. I am currently locked out of my computer. My R, T and Y keys don't work, and it's a letter in my password. Also since I have no R, T or Y key, i cannot reset to that Utility screen. PLEASE tell me i can get into my computer or change the password somehow. I have another mac to work off of and my iPhone, all computers are set to the same Apple ID but apparently my MacPro isn't registered anymore. Im freaking out.
Please help, this was a graduation gift and I'd like to fix it up.

Hello gabby_mccoy and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
Here's my stock answer about your spill:
"Whenever a liquid spill occurs the first thing that has to happen is the laptop should be shut down immediately. All power must be removed as soon as possible. It is especially important that the battery be disconnected and removed.
All affected parts must be removed from the laptop. No attempt should be made to start/restart the computer since this could potentially damage the logic board beyond all repair.
Then all affected parts would be washed in deionized water and blown dry with compressed air. (In a water spill the deionized water is probably not as critical. Depends on the mineral content of the water.) and blown dry with compressed air. This is especially true of the large chips on the logic board. Liquid can wick under them and cause havoc.
The logic board should be placed in a drying/dehumidifing oven for at least two days. Longer depending on the spill.
The keyboard is a separate matter."
Did the coffee have sugar in it? Cream? Both will make the problem worse.

  • My girlfriend's macbook pro got water damage, but her Skype seems to be active..

My girlfriend's Macbook Pro 13'  got water damage and seems to have made her computer unusable, this happened three days agol. Since then she decided to not try using her computer to avoid ruining it further. But recently her Skype has been online and is even callable sometimes. Is this an indication of good news? What does this mean?

Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • Macbook Pro's keyboard and trackpad aren't functioning well, please help, thank you!

Dear Apple Support and Apple Communities,
hopefully this question will be easily understood and will be answered with answers that can help, useful and beneficial. I will explain the problem, story that I guess began the problem, specs and information of the Notebook and so on.
I love products produced by the brand, Apple, but they can get broken, ruined or destroyed. So, I do try my best to take care of devices that I have well. Although, my father bought a Macbook Pro last year, around November or December, 2013(I THINK). I don't think it's very old, maybe 3 - 5 months, but it should be in a good condition. I have dropped it many times, hopefully that won't effect the problem. Now, the problem, the Notebook is a beautiful device that I would love to keep using, but I don't really know how to use it properly and in the CORRECT/RIGHT/GOOD/SAFE way. If possible, can you list methods/ways to do those things? If so, thank you! Anyway, back to the topic, the Notebook's keyboard has a problem, some keys aren't responding, especially the alphabets/letters, I guess some other keys worked because I did the PRAM RESET. Anyway, the trackpad is also not functioning well, sometimes, when I right click the trackpad or when I click the entire surface with one finger(RIGHT CLICK OR SOMETHING ELSE), it would left click, I found a way to fix is, put the Notebook to sleep by closing the cover, hopefully that's alright. Anyway, it all began, I guess, when I was brushing my teeth. I dislike to waste time, so I used the Notebook and brushed my teeth simultaneously. I guess Saliva was being produced because of the acidic substance(TOOTHPASTE)? Anyway, my mouth had a lot of liquid in it, could have been Saliva, water and toothpaste. So, Physics, natural forces, Gravitational force occurred, some of the liquid left my mouth and onto the keyboard. I didn't panic because I think I heard that keyboard could not or did not suck in a lot of liquid, but I did clean it up. Anyway, the Notebook including the keyboard and trackpad were functioning like normal. I guess after three hours, something happened to the Notebook. I think I was using Safari in FULLSCREEN MODE and suddenly an application or software for another application appeared. It was requesting permission for an update, I think. I updated it and suddenly, the Notebook went haywire. Probably not immediately, but I guess the Notebook did go haywire. I tried searching for ways to fix it, but not much could fix or solve the problem. Hopefully your answer-s will fix or solve the problem, thank you.

    INFORMATION
The Notebook has a few dents, I guess. I tried to open the keys to check for toothpaste or liquids. My brother told me that toothpaste is dense, probably the answer? My other brother told me that the keyboard and/or trackpad are/is "shocked"(LIQUID AND ELECTRICITY, NOT SUCH GOOD COMBINATIONS). Hopefully this is enough to be counted as detailed and informative. Thank you for your time! Take care!

Take it to an Apple Store for diagnosis and repair. This will not be free, dropping the Mac and dropping liquids on it are not covered by the warranty.

  • Macbook pro 17'' water damage... battery kindaaa works

Like a million other people asking questions on here...I spilled coffee on my Late 2011 macbook pro 17'' and encountered problems since. After the damaged I followed all the recommended steps to make sure I could try to limit any damage that has occurred...and was some what successful. I can still use my computer while its plugged in...A black x is in corner telling me no battery installed. This happened a year ago and Im still using the computer while plugged in. Ive looked into further fixing it and removed the logic board and cleaned it and it didnt change any thing. I have noticed that if I start the computer up, and then restart it I can remove the power cord while its rebooting and the computer will work unplugged. The black x is still there, telling me no battery is installed...but I am in fact running off batter power...Now I know I should consider myself lucky that I can get away with this but my question is, is there any other things I could look into to get this computer to give me correct battery information? New battery (even though it runs under battery power) or new battery connecter (even though its giving the computer power) or anything else along the line that is replaceable?
Some more info....Can not reset SMC, nothing at all happens...when running AHT the macbook freezes....After the reboot trick, if put to sleep with no power cord it wont wake up, BUT if restarted with no power cable it will boot up and continue to work without the power cord.
I am thinking theres a weird short somewhere in the logic board but didnt know if anything else could be faulty to causes this weird behavior.
After re reading that I know it can be difficult to follow, but if theres anymore info I could give let me know.
    Thanks

This could be all or some of the above.
Unfortunatly electrons are considerably faster than humans, you did all all the right things, but us carbon based units are slow.
The battery/connections may have suffered damage, as well as the MagSafe port/connector/cable.
You can make an appointment at an Apple store Genius bar, and have it disgnosed, the diagnosis is free. They will then give you your options, as well as explain the extent of the damage. Unfortunatly liquid damage is the worst, they have the resources to do a full disgnostic, and deal with this everyday. This will at the least, the known extent of your issue(s) as well as the repair pricing.
It is impossible for anyone here to give you any further advice. (at least that I have seen)
I hope this helps you, and things work out in your favor.
    I hope this helps

  • Cleaning Macbook pro 2010 keyboard, soda spill 2 years ago.

Hey guys. So around two years ago my kid spilled soda on my Macbook Pro 2010 model, and I never bothered cleaning it since I wasn't using it much. Now it's 2 years later and I'm using it often and it's all spongy and sticky, the Macbook still works perfectly fine and all the keys work okay it's just sticky. Can anyone recommend a method of cleaning them? Thanks a lot.

The keys on these Macs are comprised of 5 or 6 moving parts: the black cap that has the extruded letter or symbol, a translucent body that has a number of snaps, a two-piece scissors mechanism made of white plastic, a silicone rubber "cup" and in some, a stainless steel wire guide. All snap together onto the body and onto metal guides on the printed circuit on the Mac itself. around the microswitch that's nestled inside the rubber "cup". That cup's springiness is what pushes the key back out. Awhile back, one "leg" on the scissor of my left Caps Lock broke off and the key proceeded to pop like a Mexican Jumping Bean. Apple said it was "cosmetic damage", "not covered by warranty" and they would kindly repair it after I plopped $800 and waited while they replaced the entire top case (whole chassis, including keyboard and trackpad), for ONE FRIGGIN KEY. Needless to say, I purchased a collection of keys (5 for the price of 4; needed 1, but I'm sure another eventually will die and wanted to make the cost of the product bigger than the cost of shipping!) from replacementlaptopkeys.com, watched a couple of YouTube videos (like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TawSCmb08tM&feature=g-hist ) and got the Mac back in working order 15 minutes after the postman showed up and I feverishly tore the envelope open.
So I can tell you with full confidence that the only way to get that clean is by lifting the caps. Yeah, that will make the AppleCare guys most unhappy. And yeah, I'm sure more than one of the keycaps will get damaged in the process and require replacement. At $4.95 a pop, with discounts if you break many, just make sure to order the correct type; my Late '11 MBP has type AC01.

  • MacBook Pro & External Keyboard: Different Settings?

I use an external Win layout keyboard with my MacBook Pro. It's connected via USB. I would like to be able to have the keys remapped on the external keyboard, and I can do that with Double Command.
However, when I disconnect the external keyboard, the MacBook's keyboard remains remapped.
Is there a method whereby the system will recognized the external keyboard and remap the keyboard, and when removed, will return to the default keyboard map?
    Thanks Folks,
    Morris

Not as far as I know.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 keyboard Layout

    Hey people,
I from Portugal and I am going to study in USA. I would like to buy a macbook pro in New York but I'm not accustomed to USA keyboard layout. Is it possible to buy a macbook pro with portuguese keyboard layout?
    Thank you

Not in the USA. You'll need to buy one in Europe, or perhaps in Brazil.
