MacBook Pro - Loads of problems

Question

Hey, I've been using Macs since 1984 without issues, more recently using 17" PowerBook. Now I've updated to the Intel MacBook Pro and I have got nothing but problems, first on a MacBook Pro 17" Core Duo and now and even worse on MacBook Pro 17" Core 2 Duo. I've done everything I can think of, reinstalling ect. The issues are as follows;
Overheating
Slow, beach ball of death
Everything seems to take an age
Conflicting fonts
Applications freeze
Computer Freezes
Doesn't shut down
Doesn't warn on battery power
Won't wake up from sleep
Wakes up when in bag and gets really hot
Entourage doesn't display fonts correctly
Printers can't connect
Makes whirling noises
response to most actions is very slow
i could go on....
anyone else had these issues?

MBP C2D 17" here.
the only one I've had from your list is the won't wake up from sleep thing, but only a couple of times. everything else, fine. never had it wake up while in bag because I always shut it down completely when it's in the bag, as I only transport it very rarely, when going to a different location to work. so I'm not really using it as you would a 'real notebook' in that sense, more like a desktop machine that I do occasionally move and set up somewhere else.
oh and like many people, I have pretty bad uneven backlighting on my display.
hearing your problems reaffirms again the decision I made to keep the machine even after apple agreed to a DOA because of the display. the machine seemed to be perfect in every other way, so I didn't want to risk getting another one that might have other troubles. glad I kept it.. hope you get yours sorted out.
