Macbook Pro Login Problem

My issue is that sometimes when I try to wake the computer from sleep mode, the computer will take about 2 to 3 minutes for the login screen to come up. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what to do about it. This has happened in Leopard and Tiger and I have had fresh installs of both, and it still does it.
Thanks for the help.
Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz
2 GB Ram

Check for software and firmware updates first, if all that is in order try a SMC reset.
1. turn your mac off
2. remove power cord and battery.
3. hold the power button down for a good 10 seconds.
4. put the battery and power in again.
5. restart and see if it worked.
You could also try a PRAM reset.
Turn on your mac and immediately after the startup sound hold down the OptionAlt+PR keys.
Do this until you heard the startup chime a 3rd time then let go and let it boot.

  • Brand new Macbook pro login problem after migration

I just bought a new Mac Book Pro, and decided to migrate my documents and applications too it - but did not tick network passwords.
On finishing the migration it is asking me for the login to my account.
Actually I bought this for a friend, and was frustrated to see it ask for my password, but it is asking for an old one, which I have forgotten. Then it asked me for the Master Password that I remembered, but it still will not let me type in a new password.
Extremely frustrating since I bought it this afternoon.
Can you help me - or will I have to return to the shop tomorrow?

  • My MacBook Pro having problem that having orange horizontal stripes over the boot login screen and couldn't get into OS!! Please help!!

I'm having this issues suddenly where I wake up and turn on my MacBook Pro and pooofff, it happens.. Anybody tell me what happens and any solution can be made??
Got no idea why the image flipped upside down.. = =

It looks like that the installation process of one of the applications have caused some trouble. One of them may have changed or added kext files.
For that, the Window server crashed if you try to open a non Apple application like Firefox
Start the system in safe mode by holding the shift key on power on.
If save mode is reached, perform a permissions repair with the Disk Utility.
Don't bother about upcoming warnings like "could not repair file xy" as that occur cause you use the tool on a running system and opened files can not get touched by the tool.
After repair is done reboot system to normal and try to open Firefox.
If the problem persits, please report back here.

  • IPhone new MacBook Pro syncing problem

I asked this question in the iTunes section but got no response, so I thought I'd try here. Any suggestions?
I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro and finally got my itunes library transferred. I went to sync my iPhone, but it says that there are some songs that won't download because my computer wasn't authorized. So I did the authorization and it said it was already authorized. I finally noticed that the login email was an old, old email address. What do I do now? I didn't have this problem in my old MacBook Pro, and I don't have that old email's password. Any ideas?

    You're welcome.
You can change your account info including the email address per this link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1918
But you must know the password for your iTunes account which can be different from the password used with the email account/address used as the user name for your iTunes account. You don't need to be using the email account/address to reset or change the password for your iTunes account to change other info, but you must know the answers to the security questions chosen when you first created your iTunes account with the chosen email address.
This is done with this link which you must do first. Just follow the prompts.

  • IMessage order on MacBook Pro and problems with iPhone iMessage

    Hi,
I use my iMessage on my MacBook Pro and on my iPhone. In iMessages on my Mac I have it set to use two addresses, my phone number and my icloud email. I have the same on my phone.
When I receive a message it is ordered correctly on my phone with the most recent being shown last and the oldest I need to scroll to the top. But, on my MacBook when I open messages they seem to be ordered all over the place and I need to scroll up sometimes and I find that the most recent is sandwiched between two others in no real time order. Can anyone help me understand and correct this problem.
Also the other day, my iPhone imessage started playing up and randomly ordered the messages ut it has now reverted to the correct format. Please can someone help?
    Thanks
    Matt

Based on information in another answer I tried the following ...
After doing what blueno suggested I did have to reboot.  I then had to provide my password lots of times when I logged in.  That still didn't work so I logged out of my iCloud account in Message and logged back in, repaired, and it worked!
    This is what I did:
    1) Open Key Chain Access ( go to Applications>Utilities)
    2) Select Login at the top left side under Keychains
    3) Select All Items on the lower left side under Category
    4) Search for entries of IDS.
    5) Highlight and delete all entries that has IDS.
    6) Search for entries of FaceTime
    7) Highlight and delete all entries of FaceTime
    8) Search for entries of Messages (I also found entries containing Message (singular, not plural), but didn't delete these.)
    9) Highlight and delete all entries of Messages
    10) Reboot!
    11) Log back in and when requested log back into iCloud account (I got asked for the password multiple times)
    12) Log out of iCloud account in iMessage (Not sure if this is needed)
    13) Log back into iCloud account in iMessage.
    14) On iPhone in Settings/Messages/Text Message Forwarding turn off forwarding to my iMac.
    15) Turn Text Message Forwarding back on for my iMac (re-pairs and I entered the new number)
    16) Could send text messages from my iMac!!!!!
But it was short lived.  One message was sent using SMS (that should have gone through using iMessage and then back to the same error message.  So I am back to square one.

  • MacBook Pro login nightmare!!!

    Hi,
I am having a huge problem with my MacBook Pro.
When the login screen appears and i put my password in, it is not accepted.
BUT, this IS (100%) the correct password and user name. the password has not changed, i am the only person that uses the laptop and i had successfully logged on with the same password and user 10min prior. i had to restart after changing some settings in the program Traktor Duo, (i was arranging some midi controllers to be used in the program).
SO, i soon decided just to reset the password on the account with the use of the start up disk. however im stuck again because when i try to select the admin account from the password reset utility, it is not there. there is only this one account on the laptop and it is not showing up.
so it's almost like during the course of a simple reboot (which was conducted correctly), the only existing account on the laptop has been deleted.
    Other details:
    1. Reading other forums, i found many people had problems similar to this after a software update. i have not recently had an update.
    2. Im not sure if this had any baring on the situation but about a week ago i was playing with the bluetooth settings to connect with my phone and i changed the name of the computer. however this was only the name of the device that would show up once it had been found. AND, i had logged in and out with these settings in place successfully many times.
    3. Before you ask i am definite that caps lock is off and i am typing correctly.
    4. in 48 hours of searching, i have not found a single thread on any mac discussion forum that talks about this. i have been to both the Apple store in sydney and an authorized reseller and the staff there where dumbfounded (i have the next available appointment at the genius bar but that is 5 days away and really need my laptop for work in the next 2 days at least.)
Reformatting the computer is really not something i want to do, i have so many things on there that i require of work, some are backed up on external HDD's, some are not.
Thank you very much in advance for reading this and for any light you can shed on the issue.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I once had a similar problem--my iBook would not recognize my password and would not allow me to log in. Apple determined that the OS had become corrupted and I ended up having to reinstall the OS. This happened when I was trying to change the password on the last day of Applecare.
Do you have access to another Mac? If so, it might be prudent to see if you can use FireWire Target Disk Mode to retrieve any files you do not have backups for.
Once your data is safe, you may want to try reinstalling the OS. I don't think the Archive and Install option is specifically available any more, but I think you can reinstall the OS without having to reformat and restore your data. However, I'm not certain how best to do this, except that it would be prudent to have all of your data backed up in advance.
    Good luck!

  • Retina Display MacBook Pro eye problem and strain

    Hi, the name is Ben
Recently, I boought a retina display and have since been having noticeable eye problem.
(strain, fatigue, oversensativity to computer monitor/screen ligthing)
My question was, has anyone been experiencing the same.
I use my computer pretty much all day, since my work/studies are all based on it.
Still, after 2 weeks of using retina display macbook pro, I have rapidely seen my eyes
starting to hurt, being oversensitive to computer monitor (not that I can't use any, but am
very sensitive to any lighting and need particular moderation in usage)
Now true, there ARE many good habits I did not know of before,(see some examples below)
that I am trying to adopt but still (reducing only in part the problem), I must say I am rather worried,
since I have never had any similar problem in 5 yearsof using my previous 13", macbook, mid 2007.
Any commments, or suggestion  (constructive of course) would be welcome.
(few examples of of good habits  I have tried so far)
    as regularly standing (/30 min),
look at something far away for 20 second (/20 min), blinking regularly, closing eyes for a moment,
adjusting lighting in work environnement, buying an antiglare film or device (nushield) , adjusting screen position,
not working to close to screen, using bigger fonts

an hour on my MBP by itself (someone else's office, a hotel room, an airplane, my lazy sofa) and my eyes lose the ability to focus --and I'm toast.
    Ok, I'll explain why.
First off your iPad and iPhone screen is smaller, thus doesn't reflect as much as a larger display will.
Your other displays are in a static environment where you have reduced the glare or it's been reduced just by chance.
When you take the glossy screen laptop to another location without adequate environmental features to reduce glare imposed (no overhead lights, closed windows, low light etc.) on the screen, thus your getting eyestrain from the glare.
It's caused by the slightly out of focus reflections verses the screen image, your eyes are automatically refocusing between the two images.
Your solution in this matter is to apply a anti-glare film to the laptops glossy screen, unfortunately it's going to cost money and be replaced often as it gets dirty, dries out and peels at edges etc.
Ideally a anti-glare matte screen would be the choice in the first place. I use my Mac for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and don't have the eyestrain problem anymore.

  • Adobe CS3 and MacBook Pro: any problems?

i am about to purchase a new 15" macbook pro and adobe cs3.
has anyone experienced problems or issues with cs3 running on their macbook pro?
    thanks!

    Hi,
I have purchased CS3 and I have a G5 Tower and a MBP dual 2 core (bought it 2 months ago)
Let me tell you that I am very unpleased with CS3 on both machines.
On the G5 it is 10 times slower than CS1 for some reason it takes a lot of processing power and RAM wich the G5 does poorly.
On the MBP it processes fine but I only have 1 Gig of RAM and I feel that I don't have enough. Plus it doesn't help that a laptop HD is slower at opening files so it really makes it look like it runs slow...I should of bought the 24in imac instead due to the fact that it doesn't cost 900$ to buy a extra 2 Gigs of RAM
    and the HD is faster

  • Macbook Pro Retina problem connecting to external monitor

    Hello Community,
I've been experiencing a problem, I bought a 13' Macbook Pro Retina. Not quite a cheap machine.
But when I connect through HDMI to my HP 23xi , the screen gets blurry and cut. I tried messing with the configurations, but it simply won't get better.
I presume it's because it is retina, of course. But I bought this monitor, a quite nice monitor a month ago, and I do not want to sell it nor throw it away.
    What should I do?
    My Kindest Regards,
    Luisvf7

    Hi luisvf7,
So it seems you are having issues with your MacBook Pro not displaying properly on your external display. It does sound like a frustrating situation. Let’s see if we can get you up and running.
I would suggest that you use the steps in this article to troubleshoot the problem -
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays

Specifically the section - No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
