MacBook Pro -- MacBook Pro Retina Display Migration

Question

I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro, which of course, does not have a thunderbold connector and does have firewire.  I bought the MacBook Pro with Retina Display (MBPRD) and it will arrive in a few weeks time.  Of course, the MBPRD has thunderbold but no firewire.  I am wondering how I am going to migrate from my current machine to the MBPRD.  A couple of thoughts crossed my mind, but I wanted to put this out for discussion.  I was thinking that I could potentialy use the thunderbold to eithernet adapter to connect between the two Macs.  Or, I could potentially wait for the thunderbold to firewire adapter.
Any thoughts on this?

No, I meant the Firewire adaptor. If you use your network then you need the Ethernet adaptor if you don't want to use wireless. I recommend using Ethernet because it's much faster.
Alternatively, you can migrate from your backup drive if you have one. If you don't, then you should. You can then clone your old computer's drive to the backup drive that you can in turn use to transfer all to the new computer using the Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant. And, you then have a backup drive to use.
Basic Backup
Get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):

Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;

All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.
You can also use Time Machine as your backup software if you prefer. If you do then be sure your backup drive is at least twice the capacity of your computer's hard drive.
