Macbook pro, magic mouse, bluetooth grayed out
Hi all,
My macbook pro is about 4 years old now. Works great except I just developed an issue with the bluetooth that is affecting the usage of my magic moust.
Some info about the macbook:
17inch
Macbook pro 5.2
Intel Core 2 Duo
2.8GHz
8GB ram
Running OSX 10.6.8
The issue with the bluetooth is: when the macbook pro goes to sleep and then wakes back up, the magic mouse does not work. If I go into the bluetooth settings from the top dropdown menu, it says it is connected. I have tried turning off the mouse before/after closing the computer, but it does not help. I also tried pushing down on the mouse and it still won't reconnect.
I attempted to turn the bluetooth off and back on, but I can't. The "Bluetooth:on" is grayed out. I went into the bluetooth settings in the control panel and it won't allow me to turn the bluetooth off there either.
The only way I can get the computer to work with the mouse is to turn it off an turn it on again, but if it goes to sleep, they stop working together. I have fresh batteries in the mouse
Does anybody have any ideas of what I can do to fix this issue?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, unfortunately I do, and it seems (in my case to have to do with the laptop, not the mouse). My mouse is about two feet away from the laptop and it stutters often. Then, when I move closer it appears to work smoother. I tried another magic mouse (that I know to work well, when paired to an iMac) with the same result. Unfortunately, my desk is setup in such a way that I have to change hands in order to move the mouse closer, so this is not an option. I think it must be a bluetooth issue with my Macbook Pro (2007 with a recent motherboard because of the nvidia bug issue), but it only started after using the magic mouse.
Is this a known issue, or does anyone know an easy fix?

hi i;m using macbook pro . magic mouse pointer not moving, but do all the rest of things
thank you, i have tried you suggestion but it is still just prompting me to restart rather than allowing me to install the os from the os boot disk. the problem began when the macbook was just showing me a folder icon with a question mark on it rather than starting normally. reading through forums lead me to replace the hard drive and hard drive data cable to try and resolve the issue. however, even after having done this the folder with the question mark is still appearing. i cannot get the os istall disk to boot properly. it recognises that the disk is in the drive but continually prompts me to restart and wont allow me to boot from the disk. sorry if my previouse discription wasnt accurate. does this soun familliar and can you help with this more detailed discription of the problem? thank you.

Macbook pro 2011 mouse / keyboard not response in heavy load
When I am playing games in the 2011 Macbook pro. Mouse clicks / keyboard sometimes not response or delay, this occur when the machine under heavy load.
This won't happened in my old BLACK core duo Macbook.
Does everyone notice this?If your machine is less than a month old, you should use your warranty and call AppleCare (you have 90 days of phone support) or take your machine back to the Apple Store (make an appointment with the Genius Bar first) and let them deal with the issue.
If yours is the 13" model, there is a thread on here (somewhere) about trackpad and keyboard failures when also using Bluetooth, I think (don't quote me on that - I don't have the affected machines so I don't follow the thread too closely).
But I do believe that Apple is aware of the issue and had 'fixed' it in either a patch preceding 10.9.4 or in 10.9.4 itself.
Give them a call...

Can't connect iPhone 5s to macbook pro retina via bluetooth
Just downloaded Yosemite and am trying to pair my iPhone 5s to my macbook pro retina via bluetooth to take advantage of call handoff. I cannot get the pairing to work. It appears to try to connect, sends the pair code to my phone and I accept, but then fails. My phone mysteriously shows two available options for my Macbook Pro. Can't figure that out either. I tried resetting my network settings on my phone, and did a two button reset on my phone as well. Any suggestions?
I have a feeling this is a Yosemite bug (or iOS 8). I'm getting the same error message, and I also have 2 copies of my macbook air (2013) showing up on my phone (iphone 6 plus) . Bluetooth is on for both devices, its just still telling me it cant get network access even after momentarily saying its connected and giving me a pair code.
Update: Unpairing the phone and re-pairing doesn't fix anything. Still get a pair code, then it immediately disconnects. -
I opened my MacBook Pro to a dark gray/black screen. Rebooted several times with no success. Pressed the "sunrise" key several times with no success. Any suggestions to fix this?
Do you have AppleCare? Even if you don't, take to the Apple store and tell them what happened. They should help even though it's a few months out of warranty. You might have to talk to a manager or different higher up.

My iPhone 5 won't connect to my macbook pro retina over bluetooth?
My iPhone 5 won't connect to my macbook pro retina over bluetooth?
Ah, sure it actually won't. I have the same problem, and I contacted Apple Support. They told me that there is an incompatability between the iphone 5 and MacBook Pro Retina such that Bluetooth pairing is not possible.
The Support Agent actually had the audacity to tell me this was part of the design of the OS on the MacBook Pro, like Windows people saying, "That's not a bug. It's a feature!!"
Personally, I think this is insane. While I was trying to tether the iphone to the MacBook Pro retina for an internet connection, there are other reasons related to file transfers for which one would want to pair the iphone 5 with the MacBook Pro retina.
I am hoping this "feature" is fixed in iOS 7, and/or in some dot release of Mac OS 10.8.
By the way, the personal hotspot feature on my Verizon iphone 5 works great either via a wifi or USB connection. There are occaisions, however, when one would 1) not have a USB cable, and/or 2) have another wifi relationship between the phone and a network that one would not want to have to "forget" in order for it not to connect to that wifi network. The Macbook will not find the iphone as a wifi hotspot if the iphone is connected to wifi in the first place. At least mine won't.
WWSJS??? What Would Steve Jobs Say???!!!

Can you use the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display straight out of the box, or do you have to charge it up fully before you can use it. I do not want to damage the laptop by misusing the battery.
Attach the charger and start charging the battery to 100%. The good news is that after you have connected the charger, you may start using the MBP as well.

Please..how do you clean the Macbook Pro silver-coloured (aluminum?) outer case?

Vodka -- alcohol. Makes sense. I guess Irish whiskey wouldn't work as well due to the colour, because Jameson's would be my bevvy of choice if I were to down a few shots before.
Drink the Irish, and as for the cleaning Vodka, buy the absolute cheapest one in the store, the one you wouldn't want to drink.
They all meet FDA standards for human consumption unlike alcohol in the drug store. -
macbook pro had to be wiped out and I lost iPhoto (was free on the computer when I first bought it). Re-bought iPhoto but I can't find/get my photos. Now what?
Re-bought iPhoto but I can't find/get my photos. Now what?
iPhoto stores your photos in the iPhoto Library, by default it is in your Pictures folder. Double-click the iPhoto Library in "Pictures". Did you restore your documents and data, including the Pictures folder from your backup after the drive has been wiped? -
How do you restore a MacBook Pro back to the original out of the box state
How do you restore a MacBook Pro back to the original out of the box state
Click here and follow the instructions. If the computer originally shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, when you reach step 5, insert its original disk, restart with the C key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a fresh OS.

Magic Mouse: Bluetooth Connection Lost
Periodically (and extremely frustrating) my iMac screen will announce "Bluetooth connection lost".
There seems to be no logical explanation. But...
This leaves me with a totally functionless Magic Mouse.
Is there a way of re-establishing Magic Mouse/Bluetooth without going through the hassle of connecting a USB mouse to reach System Preferences?I'm starting to have problems with the Bluetooth not recognizing the Magic Mouse even though 1) it's discoverable and 2) I favorited it. Does this have anything to do with the new Magic Prefs app?
One other thing that could make a major difference is that I downloaded USB Overdrive in order to use a Logitech joystick. It really should have no bearing on something that is not a USB device, though that preference panel does recognize the Magic Mouse...in spirit if not in function. I cannot scroll with it or use the touch-specific functions of that device. If Bluetooth cannot read it, what good is it anyway? -
Magic Mouse Bluetooth and MacBOOK Pro problems
Hello,
In the past few days, I noticed the BT Magic Mouse started stuttering as if it was low on batteries or too far from the MacBook Pro (not a Mac Pro)
I checked the batteries, they are at 100%, I am using the same mouse pad as I ever did and the mouse is being used about 10cm away from the laptop in clear view.
I tried disconnect/reconnect to no avail. Same with rebooting. The issue seems to come and go as it pleases.
Has someone experienced anything quite like this?Yes, unfortunately I do, and it seems (in my case to have to do with the laptop, not the mouse). My mouse is about two feet away from the laptop and it stutters often. Then, when I move closer it appears to work smoother. I tried another magic mouse (that I know to work well, when paired to an iMac) with the same result. MacBook Pro keyboard/mouse events delayed on Bluetooth
I have a late-2008 MacBook Pro (the original Unibody).
Sometimes my Apple Wireless Keyboard (latest model) ends up delaying its various key events; I'll press a key and it'll take a little while to respond, or sometimes the release gets delayed causing a long series of repeats (sometimes a few seconds' worth). This is very annoying, and it comes and goes seemingly at random.
I know a lot of other people have had this issue but there don't seem to be any open threads for it right now. There are only two answers I've found: installing a firmware update (but that firmware is for the wired keyboard, not the wireless one), or disabling key repeat (which I actually, you know, use).
I've also noticed similar delay/lag issues with the Magic Trackpad, so it makes me think that the problem is with the MacBook Pro itself. I haven't noticed this happening on the bulit-in keyboard or touchpad.
Anyone have any ideas?fluffy wrote:
"Share my Internet connection" wasn't checked. Also I forgot to mention but I've set the devices up multiple times, with no change in behavior.
It looks like all the "solutions" out there (change the batteries, zap the PRAM, etc.) are more just cargo-cult thinking that doesn't have much to do with the underlying problem, it's just that with such a low-repeatability issue that only comes up sporadically, of course rebooting your computer or zapping the PRAM will make the problem "temporarily go away" (just as waiting around and doing nothing will).
I/we have no way of knowing what you have tried, so I/we go through troubleshooting steps. Apparently there is no clear-cut solution for your issue. The only other question I have is if there are other devices within 50' or so of your MBP which might operate on the same frequency and be causing interference. -
I have been experiencing several issues with my MacBook Pro Retina mid 2012. My MBPR is scheduled to go into the depot. However, I am wondering if anyone may be able to shed light on a few issues as this is the third "official" time my MBPR is going back for service ("one depot" trip; "one authorized" dealer; several in-store visits).
My Bluetooth is stating that the Bluetooth Chipset is Unknown (0). I also have had Bluetooth Preferences mysteriously change on me. In addition, while Bluetooth is off there are two serial modems turning on. I have turned them off, but they continue to pop up.
In addition, when I log in, my MBPR is not remembering me and my login name is not appearing on the slate-gray screen. The name and password are blank and the following message appears in the lower left hand corner. "login window authentication login window Name edit text has keyboard focus." As a side note, I am the only user. The login issue is a recent occurrence as we just totally wiped it again via a Command + R, and I don't believe I have an accessibility setting set to anything that would cause this, but wanted to check.
Should I be concerned here? Has anyone else had issues like this? I don't want to worry if I don't have to. I have had so many issues over the course of nine months. 5-6 wipes. Airport card replaced and I am about to pull my hair out if my MBPR doesn't come back worldly like clock work this time. I just can't send my days trying to get a $2300 product to work for me any longer. No idea what is wrong with it, but it is driving me insane. Cross your fingers for me and any guidance you have or thoughts would be welcomed. Thank you. EMMA few more issues...

There are a ton of other warnings. Before I go through this again, can someone tell me if this is normal (all of it -- above too); or if these are symptoms is a keystroke logger or hardware issues?
I ask because originally, when my computer went in for diagnostics (more than once), Apple stated the hardware was fine (other than Airport Card -- finally). However, if I've done 5-6 total wipes; created new users; do not have sharing set-up; have not played around in Terminal; and am up-to-date with versions -- and various issues KEEP COMING BACK -- I am left wondering if a keystroke logger would be possible here?!? I thought maybe a faulty logic board, but why would diagnostics be okay, then? Not trying to be hyperbole, just desperate.
Please help me rule keystroke logger out or at least, tell me so I know, so I can take appropriate action. If you think it could be the logic board with symptoms above, that would be a great too.
All I want to do is use the computer as intended, but I can't seem to get a real answer, so after nine months -- I am turning to the communities to see if anyone -- anyone at all -- can help. The last thing I can do is have the MBPR come back from the depot and the same thing occur. Any guidance or advice would be so gratefully appreciated. -
Macbook Pro issues, Randomly logs me out, takes several attempts to boot from sleep
Hi there,
I bought my macbook pro (2013, I5) about 9 months ago. Recently I've been having issues where start-ups will take several attempts before I can finally load my desktop. Coming out of sleep, oftne times I can't move my mouse or type into the password box, the screen will then go dark, I hit escape to bring the login screen back up but once again I can't do a thing. This will happen a few times until I can finally get in.
In the last week as well, I've had a few occurences where I'll be in the middle of typing out a word document, and I'll get logged out for no reason. Luckily I can recover my work but it's stilla nuisance.
The system diagnostics report for the last such event is below.
