MacBook Pro Medio 2012 freezes literally once every two minutes?

Hello Apple Support Community,
I have a MacBook Pro Medio 2012 running the latest edition of OS X Mountain Lion which I have been enjoying for almost a year now. I must say that it's the best machine I've ever owned and I have never encountered any problems with it. Until last friday. I was using it at home before school, browsing internet, listening to music and chatting on IRC. I then closed it down and went to school. When I started it at the school it suddenly was really slow and literally froze every two minutes. I spent most of the day figuring how to solve this really annoying issue and I searched a lot on Google a lot. I gave up and decided to do a complete re-install of OS X through the menu you can open when booting (cmd + r).
I have this one time earlier and this time it took far more time than last time. It took me 12 hours this time.. Anyway, it finished the install of OS X and I configured my account and such. I now thought that everything should be well, but no. I have the exact same issues as before and I can't seem to figure out how to solve this annoying issue. Which is also the reason for me to come and ask you guys.
Things I already have tried:
- Re-installing OS X
- Clearing the SMC
I hope this problem can be solved without any costs. I'm a student which obviously means that I don't have a lot of money to spent on such things.
Regards
Daniel

Honesty you have already test it. When you have the original RAM installed the system did Not Freeze, Correct?
Then you installed this other RAM and Now the system Freezes. The RAM you installed is either Bad or not the correct type for your Model Mac.
Sure there could be some other reason, But I doubt it. Simple test. Reinstall the original RAM. If the system does not freeze then you have your Proof, the new RAM you bought is either Bad or the wrong type.

  • Macbook Pro medio 2012 keeps lagging & showing beachballs after every action

I have a MacBook Pro medio 2012 for a few months now, it always worked good for me but since a few days all my actions make it to lagg and after a while I get beachballs every several seconds and all for all actions I have to wait a few seconds for it even to respond at all.
It runs on an i7 processor and has 8 GB RAM so that cannot be the issue, besides that has it always been a fast laptop.
I also run boothcamp on it with windows on that participation, when i use that it does not lagg. So is has something to do with the MACOSX part, since windows runs fine on it.
The lagg came out of nothing, I just run a webbrowser (FireFox) and Spotify, mail and iCal are on the background, but those can't be the problem.
I hope any one has a solution for me.

I have followed them and I noted that at his step about RAM he says: 'If the page outs value is too high – more than 10% of the page ins value – then that is an indication that you could benefit from more RAM.  If it isn’t that high, adding more RAM won’t help.'
Here is an image with my stats:
As you can see the page-outs are far higher than 10% of the page ins, and I am currently just running light programs, with the only exeption maybe of FireFox, but that should not make the diffence.
The problem I have now is: How can this be? Since I have 8GB RAM and it used to be no problem. Also note that I have no problems running Windows, windows runs just fine, via boothcamp.

  • MacBook pro [mid 2012] freezes

    Hi Guys,
I bought brand new MacBook pro 2012 (no-retina) from a local store, and it came with 4GB of memory. I upgraded to 8GB and since upgrading it started freezing regulary 1-3 times on daily basis. It freezes on Photoshop, Illustrator, Chrome, iTunes...
I tried to do a RAM test but it went ok, can you recommend me some RAM tests for OSX? I am running 10.7.5 and I am planning to upgrade to 10.8 soon.
    The freezing:
I usually have 2-3 programs opened, and listening to Music, suddenly the Mac freezes and I can see the screen and hear a repetitive sound of the music, like 0.1 seconds of the song is repeating all over again. I waited once for 2 minutes but nothing happened. Today I tried to unplug the external monitor - nothing change. Unplug the Mouse (regular USB Mouse) - nothing change here too. But after unplugging the power the MacBook powered off instantly. So I guess while its frozen it doesnt see the battery at all...
    The thing is:
I called the store, and they said they will get my 4GB ram back while waiting for a NEW RAM to arrive. I am from Macedonia, and there is no official Apple store here, so I guess the RAMs aren't from the apple store, because I payed 100 Euros which is around $150.
    So my question:
    1) can you recommend me some RAM testing tool (I've tried with memtest over terminal and it went fine, but it took TOO long to test the memory)
    2) have some of you experienced something similar before/upon upgrading the ram to MacBook pro?
    Thanks,
    Mario

  • My Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) freezes or is slow to login

Hi, so this issue has occured for a while, but my Macbook Pro 13-inch Mid-2012 freezes occasionally on my login screen. A couple of things happen when it does this.
Either it freezes and there is no blinking cursor in the password box and I can't move the trackpad/if I do move the trackpad it just turns into a spinning beach ball for 20 seconds and then it finally allows me to log in. When I log in, for a few minutes everything on my computer is sluggish, for example going to my launchpad takes time and opening up applications takes time.
Or, it will do all of what I just stated above but it is preceded by a sound as if it were booting up from shut down (that mechanical disk sound that always happens right when you press the power button to boot up the computer) and then following this, the screen is brightened a lot and there is a white loading bar at the bottom of the screen towards the middle. The loading bar is like 15 or so transluscent white horizontal lines that become solid white to indicate loading. This may take a few seconds and then it does exactly what I stated in the previous paragraph.
This issue has happened for a while, and I'm not sure what the problem is. Please help! It's frustrationg to have to take 30 or more seconds to wake up my computer and begin using it.
I am running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 on a Macbook Pro 13-inch (Mid 2012) with 4 GB of RAM and 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor.

When I log in, for a few minutes everything on my computer is sluggish, for example going to my launchpad takes time and opening up applications takes time.

Check your System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items.  Get rid of and/or delete all that you do not need or want.

If you found no solutions to your problem(s) listed in the various Knowledge Base Articles see if the following suggestions are of any help:
Except for the keyboard & mouse, disconnect all devices/peripherals from your computer.
Step 1:  Restart into Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key during startup.  The comp will run a complete & lengthy file system check, then start up w/only the required kernel extensions & w/o running any Startup items that you installed.
If you are running OS 10.4 it will also perform some font finagling.
Try starting up normally again.  If you are still stalling, restart in Safe Mode & move on to Step 2...........
Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
Step 2:  Open Library>Startup items folder-the *root* level Library, not the one in your user name folder.
Look for potentially problematic 3rd party items such as virus scanning software components, etc.  Remove 1 or more items to a location outside the Library folder, such as the Desktop, then restart normally & see if your Mac stalls.  It it does, try removing all the items in the Startup items folder & restart.  If all’s now well, place the items back into the Startup items folder 1 by 1, restarting each time you put one back.  If and/or when the stall resurfaces, you just identified the faulty component.
If the above does not work, then it’s time to move on to Step 3.................
Step 3:  WARNING-This step can be tedious-removing .plist files from the /Library/Preferences folder.
Remove the entire Preferences folder from the Library folder on your startup drive then place the files back 1 by 1 until you see the problem return. *The Mac will automatically create a new Preferences folder in the Library folder*
Alternatively, you can take half of the items out (all non-Apple .plist file, for example), restart to see if your Mac stalls, then move to a smaller set of  items, repeating the process until the culprit is found.
Or you can use Preferential Treatment which is a *FREE* utility that does all the work for you.
Hang in there & good luck!!!!

  • MacBook Pro Mid 2012 freezes when plugged in

Hi. My Mid 2012 MBP which runs on Yosemite 10.10.2 keeps freezing even when just browsing on Chrome so I uninstalled Chrome and used Safari. I was still having problems after switching browsers so I restored my device to its factory settings but the restore did not solve my problem. All this time my device was plugged in so I unplugged it and tried to browse. It did not freeze or crash. I read the forums and found out about the SMC reset and a NVRAM reset but my device is still freezing when plugged in. I am typing this while my MBP is unplugged. Please help.

    Reset the SMC again:
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
    Then try s safe boot:

    Any change?
    Run an Apple Hardware Test:

Note that an error free AHT is not definitive.
    Ciao.

  • My Macbook Pro Retina (2012) freezes at random times

    Hi,
This usually happens when I have Google Chrome up, but it happens about a couple times every week. I would be on Google Chrome and click another tab only to find a blank page. Then the rest of my screen becomes unclickable, soon followed by an unresponsive cursor. At this point, I have to hard power-down by holding the power button. My computer seems perfectly fine afterward, but I'm concerned that I will lose my work if for example I'm working on an important paper or project.
Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution? Thanks for your help!

    I made a post here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5481839?start=2715&tstart=0#24833543

  • Does any have their MacBook Pro retina 2012 freezes up then desktop blue screen for 15-20 seconds?

I have been having issues for months now.  My MBP 15" is freezing up after I stop typing in any application.  I cannot do anything.  Then after 20-30 seconds my desktop goes to a blue screen then comes back after 20-30 seconds.  Just did it now when I stopped typing.  Went to the Genius Bar they reload the software but it's still happening. Currently on Mountain Lion.

If you like you can also restore, via Disk Utility, the DMG onto another disk, but you will be able to read the contents, simply mounting the volume inside any version of OS X.
^ What do you mean by this?
Also, It says on here:Mac OS X v10.5, v10.6: How to back up and restore your files - Apple Support
When the imaging process is complete, select the newly created disk image in the device pane.  Then, choose Images > Scan Image for Restore... from the menu bar, and let the scan complete.
Quit Disk Utility (press Command-Q). Then press Command-Q to quit the Mac OS X installer; you will be prompted to restart.
Restoring the backup disk image's contents to your internal Mac OS X disk
What does Images > Scan Image for Restore mean?
Also  If I erase hard drive and then reinstall mavericks OS X from "command + r mode" and after that hopefully I can get back in would I hook my external hard drive and then open the copy of the "macintosh".dmg and drag everything back on? or...?

  • MacBook Pro (mid 2007) freezes after upgrade to Mavericks

    Hello,
After the upgrade to Mavericks my MacBook Pro (mid 2007) freezes after a couple of minutes of usage - after successful install and the use of some apps. Not bad enough the system is now always crashing if I try to boot. PM reset didn't help. Booting from the restore partition was possible, but I decided to go back to a working backup of 10.8.4 made a minute before I tried to upgrade. Why 10.8.4? Because 10.8.5 causes the strange problem that the Mac freezes after wake up from sleep.
    Any suggestions?
    Anyone else having this problem?
    Kind regards

I did a clean install of mavericks on my MBP (mid 2007) and still it freezes at arbitary points. The very first time when it booted up it worked for longer and when I started to apply updates from app store, it froze. Successive boots froze much early, like within few seconds of booting.
I am going to check this by booting in safe mode.  I am losing hope with mavericks on my MBP (mid 2007) and will switch back to snow leopard (10.6.8) which was working seemless.
I checked so many things, based on other posts to make sure if my MBP is really Mid 2007. IT IS.
    Rgds,
    Raj.

Migration should never be done with any Adobe program.
If you have done Migration, you have to UNINSTALL first (if even possible) and then download Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool and run that also. When this is done, restart your computer and install the programs from an original Adobe Installer.
Other question is, if your OS is supporting that version. You can try it, it is not officially supported, but it might work.
But CC will work, upgrade to CC2014 (without additional cost), use that as it is better anyway.

hello, I am trying to reinstall os x lion in my macbook pro mid 2012, from my recovery disc, and its imposible because every time I have problems to download de installer or something that is required to do that. what can I do?

When you do get it downloaded, before you do anything else, save the Lion installer - make a copy and put it somewhere safe. you can then reuse, make a clean install and other things.

  • Macbook Pro, bought 2012, takes a very long time to start up/restart (5 mins). How do I fix this?

My Macbook Pro, bought 2012, takes a very long time to start up/restart (5 mins) every single time I have shut it down.  I try not to shut it down at all now because once or twice, I have got a grey screen, and then nothing. I've held down the power button to shut down again and restart  How do I fix all this?

Start up with your built-in Recovery disk by holding down the Command and R keys when starting. Open Disk Utility from there and use it to REPAIR your disk (you've already verified it and it came up with errors).
With any luck, your problems will be solved. While I was there, I would also repair  permissions.
    Good luck,

  • What is causing my macbook pro to hard freeze?

My 2011 15" MacBook Pro started hard freezing recently a couple months ago. The screen goes black and the computer seems to be stuck on a loop. If music is playing, it will repeat the same second of music over and over until I hold the power button. Sometimes I can even hear the sounds from inside the computer (the sounds of the hard drive spinning?) repeat at the same frequency.
It was rare at first but became much more frequent (once a day) and I finally decided that maybe an update from Leopard to Lion would help. So I updated but the problem is still getting worse. It is now freezing a few times a day, sometimes only minutes after starting back up following a freeze.
It does seem to be linked to activity, that is, the more I'm doing, the more likely it is to freeze. But I can skype for hours and hours with no problems even though the fans are running high and the computer seems to be working hard, and then try to preview a pdf on my desktop and it freezes.
If the update to Lion didn't help at all, what else can I do? Could this be a hardware problem?

Ok, so I looked through the system.log and couldn't see any obvious error messages but here's everything that happened after I woke my computer from Sleep and before the crash:

(Sorry for posting all of it, I just don't know what of that might be important)
As for the System Diagnostic Reports, there are tons of them (mostly .panic, 2 .hang and 1 .crash). Most of them start with "Kernel," one Firefox and one Thunderbird.
    Anyway, the most recent (Kernel_....panic):

  • Macbook pro mid-2012 13" has very slow disk access

Until 3 days ago my macbook pro mid-2012 13" running OX 10.8.3 was running fine. Then, it showed very slow response anytime it had to access the hard disk. After doing the usual checks and disk first aid repairs to no avail, I booted from my external disk with an older copy of my hard disk and everything then worked as normal, except when I accessed the internal hard disk, then it crawled once again (spinning beach ball, took many seconds just to open a finder window and then several minutes to display the contents). I ran the Apple Hardware Tests and it said everything was fine, even though it tooks several minutes before the test would actually start. I also ran the program BlackMagic Speed Disk to find out if the disk was having transfer speed problems and it showed a respectible transfer rate (60MB/s), not great but not like the 0.3MB/s I was getting when I tried to back up the internal disk. I was using Carbon Copy Cloner to try to back up the internal disk but had to give up since at 0.3MB/s, it would take days to back up the 250GB on the disk. I found on the web that using "restore" in Disk Utility, I could do a disk copy without the file by file copy which allowed me to back up my disk in "only" 6 hours. Booting from my newly made copy on an external disk worked fine and ran at nearly normal speed (slightly slower since it was an external disk running through USB2). As a final attempt to prove this was a disk problem, I erased the internal disk and reinstalled OSX 10.8. I am still waiting for this install to finish, it has been 5 hours although the progress bar said it should be done in 20 minutes. This was fairly convincing evidence that it is not a software or settings problem. However, all my web searches could find no other case of a problem like mine. I presume I have a failed hard disk but as all the diagnostic programs say it is working fine, I was hesitating to bring it in without hard diagnostic evidence. If anyone knows what might be the problem, it would be much appreciated to hear from you.

It should not take 5 hours to install Mac OS X.  There is something wrong with the disk.  Try reformatting where you do a wipe of the drive (an select the option to write zeros which will remap bad sectors).   Then try to install MAc OS X.
I got this information from here:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20064489-263.html
    Back up your data.
Use Time Machine or a system cloning utility to create a full and restorable backup of your data. If you suspect bad blocks, then when cloning you might consider not using a "block-level" copy process, since this will likely run into problems.
    Boot to the utilities DVD.
If you have a boot DVD for a tool like Drive Genius or another drive utility, then boot to that; if not, use your OS X installation DVD (once you select your language, open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu).
    Format the drive.
Using your selected utility, format the drive and check for bad blocks. If you are using Disk Utility, click the Erase tab, click the Options button, and then select the option to write zeros to the disk (you do not need to do multipass erase options, as this will provide no additional benefit for managing bad blocks). Writing to zeros may take a couple of hours depending on the size of the drive, but when done the drive will have remapped any blocks that were not reliably read.
    Restore the OS installation.
If you have used Time Machine to create your backup, boot to your OS X installation DVD (if you are not using Disk Utility) and use the option in the Utilities menu to restore from backup. Attach your Time Machine drive and then proceed with the restoration, selecting the newest backup as the one to restore to your system. If you have used a system cloning tool, then attach the cloned drive and boot off of it (hold the Option key at start-up to select it from the boot menu). When you are booted to the cloned drive, run your cloning utility to copy the installation back to the computer's main boot drive. An optional approach here is to perform a full reinstallation of the OS from your installation DVD, and then migrate your data, applications, and settings from either the clone or the Time Machine backups using Apple's Migration Assistant.
