Macbook Pro Mid 2014 Hard Freezes and Crashes

So I bought my Macbook about a month ago, and ever since then Ive been having this same issue over and over again. I have tried every solution apple has thrown at me and nothing has seemed to fix it. I have sent it out for a repair, reinstalled the OSX, Cleared the pRam, and various other things. I have not narrowed down the situation myself and cant seem to figure out what is causing these hard freezes and crashes. It always happens randomly at something GPU related it seems. Almost like the video card gets to stressed out at crashes. From scrolling up the page of a website to switching to a different video on youtube, all these little and sometimes big things have caused it to crash. Apple has sent it out for repair and they claimed that they fixed the logic board, but that didn't work because the issue still persists. I have reinstalled the OSX from guidance of a apple care associate over the phone. Ive eliminated almost every possible situation they have given me and nothing seems to fix it. Im not sure if there is a defect in these particular models or I just got a lemon but either way its frustrating. I will post the specs below and provide any other info that is asked.
SPECS:
GPU: Intel Iris Pro
Processor : 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
Software: OS X 10.9.4
RAM: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 playback freezing and crashing with new iMac i7

Using Premiere Pro CC 2014 and having constant playback freezing and software crashes on a brand new iMac i7.
    Here are the specs:
    iMac i7 4.0GHz 5k Retina
    32 GB Ram
    AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB graphics card
    512GB Solid State Drive
I was on chat yesterday with an Adobe tech. Although playback/render settings show the OpenCL option to utilize the AMD graphics card for processing, I was advised to switch to "Software Only" as that card is not supported yet. I had to re-render my 45 minute documentary (which doesn't appear to be any faster than it was on my old 2011 iMac by the way) and it still has the same issues.
So frustrating? Anyone else experiencing this? Any advice? I hope I didn't just buy this "super machine" in vein.
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hi All,
Taking some tips from Kevin Monahan. If you haven't already gone through this list please do so.
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe preference files are set to read/write
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot
    Best,
    Peter Garaway

  • Updated to Premiere Pro CC 2014 - keeps freezing and crashing

Everything was fine and dandy until I updated to the latest version last week. Now every 10 minutes, or sometimes randomly, my timeline will freeze on a frame and I'll have to restart the program. Other times, it just crashes and gives me the "quit unexpectedly" message.
What's going on and how do I fix? I'm on a Macbook Pro Retina 13" late 2013, 2.8GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB memory, Intel Iris graphics, OSX10.9.4.

I am having the same issue.

  • 13" MacBook Pro (mid 2009) hard drive and memory upgrade

So I'm looking to upgrade my hard drive and memory for my 13" MacBook Pro. I'm still wondering just how easy it will be to recover my data, and put it back onto my new drive. I currently have everything backed up to an External drive using Time Machine. If I back it up, and then do the replacement, is it really as simple as it sounds to start it up, put in the Mac OS disk and then restore from a Time Machine backup? I have 150 Gb worth of data and would be ticked off if I can't get it back to my MacBook Pro. Any expertise out there? The actual installation looks easy, but it's the loading the new drive that has me concerned. When I install the new drive, is there anything else I need to do to prep it? And how do I do it if there is? Looking at a 500 gb or even 1 Tb Western Digital drive.

I would say get yourself an external enclosure. Put the hard drive that comes out of your MacBook pro into the enclosure. Put in the new hard drive. Boot up from the external hard drive, use disk utility to format the new drive. Use Carbon Copy Cloner to move everything as it is from old hard drive to new internal one. Re-boot to internal drive, you are done.
Carbon Copy Cloner is a freeware get it from download.com

  • MacBook Pro Mid 2014 shut off randomly and won't turn back on.

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro(Mid 2014) won't turn back on. I was just typing up my essay and it just turned straight off and won't turn back on. It has happen several times before and all I had to do was press the buttons(SMC method) and the PVRAM thing and it would turn back on. But now it doesn't turn on at all. How do I fix this issue? I had went today to the Apple Store and had a appointment at 3:15-3:25 and I was late by 2 minutes, so they couldn't help me and offered me to come back at 5PM, but will busy so I asked for 5 Monday. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Back when it was operating it would shut off whenever I was using it at the random times. This is my first MacBook so I don't know if it's suppose to get Hot and loud sometimes when operating and then cool off afterwards if that helps out. It shutoff last week wednesday and doesn't turn on at all, but will charge to fully green though. Anyone got any suggestions? I do have a MacBook screwdriver to open it, so if anyone knows anything about the inside and how to resolve the issue it would be great. I don't know how to remove the battery so if you do know please tell me or some keyboard trick would be helpful!   All my data is on this so I would like to solve before Apple erases my data.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • After sleep, retina MacBook Pro (Mid 2014) does not recognize usb connected mouse movement

After sleep, retina MacBook Pro (Mid 2014, on 10.9.4) does not recognize usb connected mouse movement. I have tried a generic usb mouse and my Razer Deathadder usb mouse. Both mice work before sleep; but after sleep, the computer no longer recognizes mouse movement while still recognizing the mouse buttons when pressed. Any idea why this is occurring?

    Hello, chocotac0.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

  • MacBook Pro mid 2014

Received my new 2.8 GHz MacBook Pro (mid 2014).  Had a 2.3 GHz (early 2011) MBPro. Note: both have 16 GB RAM running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4.  Nothing drastic in the looks department until you look close.  This post, isn't about esthetics (which are great BTW).  It is to get some idea from other users of their experiences.  Mine came with the optional 1 TB SSD (which after looking around in teardown photos - are like memory sticks rather than the old HD looking device).  I immediately partitioned it to be similar to the way my old 2.3, then having used Carbon Copy Cloner (which I do daily) to mirror my boot disk, I used CCC to make my new boot partition on the 2.8 just like my 2.3.
To my question(s)...  The 2.8 MBP memory seems to be close to the max (16 GB) often.  I do (and have often on the 2.3) had many apps open when I'm doing desktop publishing/web development-publishing, like Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Word, and a number of other running. No appreciable notice in the system slowness.  A few spinning balls here and there but as with the 2.3, could have a ton of apps running.
One spinning ball incident I looked at the Activity Monitor and the RAM was at 13 - 14 GB.  Running Cocktail to purge memory not in use only releases a few GB, BTW.
Since this MBPro is newly on the shelves, probably totally (duh) architecture, etc.  So this may be normal and something I need to get use to unless problems arise.
Anyone think I should back up (not backup) and start over with the OS X  and reinstall a clean/fresh copy on the boot volume and let the installer copy over my apps, folders, configurations, etc.?
BTW - this 2.8 may look a lot like my 2.3 but there's so much different I need to read up on the new stuff.
    Tom

FYI - tried to do a clean install of Mavericks (noted in another thread) and the Installer said "Mavericks cannot be installed on this volume."  What?  Now I wondering if I messed up and should have made a copy of the OS that came on the MBPro if this is a different version of Mavericks.
PS: Memory issue is still there: at this time 12:60 GB out of 16:00 GB with very few applications running.  ?????

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 keeps lagging and crashing

My Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 keeps lagging and crashing to a point where I cannot do my job. When I open my premiere file, I can work on my timeline for maybe two or three minutes before it lags, freezes, and then finally crashes. I'm at a loss of what exactly is causing my problem because I edit primarily H.264 files and my sequences are not complex in any sense of the word. I've been dealing with this for days and I cannot seem to find a solution. If anyone has any advice please let me know because I am desperate. Thank you.

    Hi Dana,
Can you go to File-Project Settings-General and change the video renderer to Software Only Mode.
Check if that works or not.
Are you using any third party plug-in's for Premiere Pro?
    Thank You

  • Why won't movies or shows play on my Macbook Pro mid 2014 w/ Retina Display??

I have a new Macbook Pro mid 2014 w/ Retina display and have not been able to play any movies via iTunes.
    Am I missing something?

    Here is what I see...

  • What software do I need to install to play some games MacBook Pro Mid 2014

Hello, what software do I need to install to play some games - MacBook Pro Mid 2014. Games like : Alan Wake, Assassin's Creed, Boarderlands 2, FarCry series, Crysis, etc.

Assassin’s creed II and Borderlands 2 are in the Mac App Store.
The other’s don’t appear to be ported to OS X. You’d have to install Windows in one of the various ways, Bootcamp (native boot) or Virtualization (VMWare, Parallels, VirtualBox). Games under Virtualization probably don’t run well.

  • How do I install windows 7 on a macbook pro mid 2009 using bootcamp and no optical drive?

How do I install windows 7 on a macbook pro mid 2009 using bootcamp and no optical drive?
My optical drive is non-functional and I want to dual boot with win7. The only problem is my macbook does not boot from USB at all, even when I hold th ALT key down when it is starting up.
-I have a flashdrive with win7 on it.
-I mounted the ISO of win7 with toast for bootcamp to do its thing.

    Good luck.
Consider this a bump so that hopefully someone with better news spots your thread.

  • Macbook pro mid 2014 (Magnet issue)

    Hi guys
I have a macbook pro retina mid 2014 15", I've had this macbook pro for about 2 months and just yesterday i noticed a vibration/buzzing sound whilst on my lap on top of my macbook sleeve case, i noticed it made this noise when it was near the magnets on the sleeve case folding part. I wanted to know weather anyone else has had this issue/problem occur and if so what is causing that noise, and also does it effect anything internally.
Thanks, hope to hear some responses/answers

  • I just replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro, reformatted new hard drive and copied over a backup from time machine now I have a kernel panic message (you must restart) - what do I do now?

i just replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro, reformatted new hard drive, installed a back up from time machine and now have kernel panic ( you must restart your computer) what do I need to do?

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents – the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
