Macbook pro mode 2.5ghz model identifier4,1 max ram querry

Hello All
I recently upgraded my ram from the basic 2 g by adding a 4 gig chip plus one of the original 1 gig ( i was talked out of a matched 4 gig set by a regular and trusted dealer).  I have read it was possible with a number of MBPRo models to do as much and made a snap decsion to do as much.
I am having doubts that this configuration is efficient given my needs.  My main reasons for suspecting that is not are; currently i am running just numbers and  firefox and this machine is sluggish - sometimes when typing in the browser my lines of text are 5 or six words behind and i need to wait for them to catch up to make certain i have nt any mistakes etc;  Numbers'08 is sooo sluggish today its painful - I cant get a small document with 2 charts to respond   quickly;  Lastly,I use this machine for audio and I upgraded my cubase version to 6 which is considerably more cpu intensive than version 4  but it is really slow on this machine (as part of the upgrade i  installed NI Komplete 8 ( it required 10.6 and cubase 4 was not supported on 10.6 so everthing was upgraded)  I fully expected a cpu hit on this machine with those software changes but I was  surprized by  how much of a cpu hit,  At first i just chalked it up to the reality f the software changes but i am wondering if this configuration isn't efficient and i should consider the 4 gig set or the 4 gig and 2 gig pair OWC recommends.
I have found this link with an interesting explanation of how ram works during my search for answers to my problem.

Anyone out there provide any more information for my specific system or confirm what whas posted  here and whether the software i am using (or all software on a mac) needs to  "bank"  data the way GreatGazoo198 has pointed out.
Just to be clear when i installed the single 4 gig chip i did not have any adverse behaviour which i have had on previous machines with a bad stick ie kernal panics,  unusuall crashes and/ or software just acting "wiggy"

  • In my MacBook Pro old 2006 late model Lion 10.7.4 how achieve right click from touch pad

In my MacBook Pro old 2006 late model Lion 10.7.4 how achieve right click from touch pad?

The multigesture buttonless trackpad was introduced with the Unibody Macs that came out in Late 2008. Successive models have built upon that, adding 2, 3 and more fingers to the gestures.
Older models don't have the trackpad hardware needed to detect those motions and, hence, cannot support multigestures. Only resort is using combination of keys with the button, as disguise suggests.

  • What is the right charger for a MacBook Pro 13"  mid 2009 model?

What is the right charger for a MacBook Pro 13" mid 2009 model? I have two chargers for two different Mac and don't know which is  thankswhich. I'm really looking for specific details such as voltage/watts and all the rest to idenify my charger.  A link to where to web page where I could purchase the correct charger would also be very useful. Many thanks.
All help much appreciated. THANK YOU

Both power adapter I have are different (at the magnet end) from the one in link.
Earlier adapters have T shaped connectors, which Apple later changed to the L shape, presumably to make them more abuse-proof. Either one is fine and the one you are using will not damage your Mac.
Retina MBPs and new MBAs use a completely different MagSafe 2 connector which will not fit (without an adapter).

  • MacBook Pro 17" Early 2011 Model: Auto Shutdown/Restart Problem

    Hey guys!
This is my first time to sign in, join the community, and ask a question or create a discussion. FYI, I really have little knowledge on tech stuff so please bear with me. Here's my problem, and I hope you can give out your suggestions:
I have a MacBook Pro 17" Early 2011 Model which I have upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion.
A month or two ago, it had started shutting down or restarting at random times. As time passed, this problem became more frequent.
I finally decided to have it checked at Digital Hub, a licensed Apple distributor. After almost a week, they've finally diagnosed that the problem is with my battery. I got my MacBook pro back around 2 (two) weeks ago, and ever since then I had to use an outlet in order for it and myself to work properly. Right now, I'm still saving up to purchase new batteries.
Recently, however, I've noticed that my MacBook Pro auto restarts even when plugged. Take note, RESTART and no longer shutting down completely. Upon further trials, I've finally concluded that it does so only during the use of heavy programs such as Diablo 3, Final Cut Pro X, and when rendering with iMovie. I have yet to try with Adobe products, particularly with Lightroom and Photoshop, and see if it does the same. But more or less, that's what I've noticed so far.
Given that I still haven't purchased the battery yet, I know it's still vague to know the real probelm/solution. But with the given situations, what are you views on this matter? Please let me know. It'd be of great help. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon!

Thanks for taking so much time in helping me.
    Just an update:
    2 loops/passes done - no errors.
Called up Digital Hub and talked to the technician, he says there are 3 possible problems:
    1. Battery (which is still inside the laptop) may cause some disturbances with the electric current
    2. Software related - most likely re-formatting may be needed
    3. Video card may have failed, which means complete change of the logic board ----> worst case
I'm crossing my fingers that it's either of the first two.

  • Macbook pro 15" mid 2009 model display "freeze", please help!!!

I have a Macbook pro 15" mid 2009 model which all of a sudden startet "freezing" everytime i restart it, opens spesific programs, etc, and it is really starting to bug me! Sometimes it takes me 15 minutes to start the computer, and then freezes for another 5 minutes when i try to start i.e word.
I currently have the Mac OS X 10.6.8 (snow leopard).
Could this be fixed by a software update of some sort? If not, how can i fix it (if possible at all)?
    Thanks!

You have provided some good basic information, but I'll need more in order to address our question.
    1. When did you notice this problem? Relatively recently, or have you been having this problem for a while?
    2. Can you correlate the problem with the installation of new software? Which software?
    3. How much RAM do you have? If it's 2gb, that's probably not enough - 4gb is ideal for your unit.
    4. Do you update your MBP with software update? Have you updated your browser and plugins?
    5. Have you cleaned your MBP? Recently, an increasing amount of users have seen improvement by getting dust from your unit.
    6. What programs cause you to freeze, or this happen with all applications? What happens when you notice the freeze? Do you see a spinning wheel? Does the display freeze? Be as specfic as possible.
I realize this is a detailed homework assignment, but answer as completely as you can. This is an answer to your issue - it's just a matter of narrowing things down.

Hi my Macbook pro 15" late 2011 model is just over a year old. This morning it refuses to switch on. It works with the charger plugged to it and although a green light comes on the report states there there is no battery. The battery icon has an X in it. Pease could someone help. I have tried resetting and shutting down.

    I have a macbook pro 2012 2.5ghz i5, i want to know would  Ddr3 1600mhz So-dimm Cl9 be compatible?

The correct RAM specifications for a 2012 13" MBP are:  204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.  The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
    Ciao.

Nope. Your model has a built in battery that needs to be changed by Apple.

  • Buying a new Macbook Pro 15" 2.2GHz model

    Hi
I have a quick question about the new macbook pro 15" 2.2GHz model. If bought from Apple, you can opt to have a 500GB hard drive @ 7200 rpm, instead of the 750GB @ 5400 rpm, with no change in the price.
Can I do it too if I buy from Best Buy?
    Thanks.

    Sorry, bud. Ain't happening.

  • Boot up time of MacBook Pro 13" 2.5GHz i5 vs MacBook Pro 13" with Retina display with 2.4GHz i5

    Hello
    Does anyone know
"the boot up time of MacBook Pro 13" 2.5GHz i5 vs MacBook Pro 13" with Retina display with 2.4GHz i5?"
    Thanks

    A bit simplifying :
there are two parts in boot process - one-before spinning thing, other - spinning thing to desktop.
First part is hardware inits, you can not speed it up. It is for sure longer for your MBP than for her - its normal, more hardware and it is more sophisticated so longer init.
Second part depends on HD (SSD) speed.
Say so - I have M4 SSD and second part is 1 to 2 spins until login window. Should be more or less same for you.
If it is not so - probably something is not good with filesystem and some config files, most probably due to cloning instead of install. Reboot from recovery, repair drive (first - drive as a whole, second - boot partition), then reboot permissions. reboot two times as normal. see what'll happen with timing.

MacBookPro1,1 can only run Mac OS X 10.6.8, as it has got a 32-bit processor.
If you order replacement DVDs, Apple will send you DVDs with the original Mac OS X version that came with your Mac, in this case, Mac OS X 10.4.5.
If you decide to get replacement DVDs, Apple will only charge you for the delivery
