Macbook pro mouse pointer moving on its own

I was using my mac and suddenly, it moves from left to right on its own.
I don't know what caused the mouse to suddenly move independently, but I must know how to get rid of it.
I tried cleaning off the trackpad, but it didn't work for me.

Hi,
try to check in System Preferences > Energy Saver and set a time interval in "Put the computer to sleep when inactive for...".
If this is set on "never", your computer won't sleep on its own.
Bye,

  • Macbook pro cursor doing stuff by its own?

My macbook pro is behaving odd since couple of days. The cursor is doing funny things. it is automatically zooming in and zooming out while I am on Safari. Also it is doing other stuff i.e. selecting a word and going to look up. it is also hard to control the cursor.
I bought this macbook pro last year, the warranty is expired in Januray 2013.
Anyone can help on this problem?

  • MacBook Pro logs out repeatedly on its own at startup

Hopefully this question is posted in the appropriate location.
When I start my MacBook Pro, I am asked to insert my password and login.
Upon entering my password, the computer will display the desktop, and applications will begin to open. About 10 seconds after, the computer will log me out, and ask me to sign in again. It does this at least 5 times. After restarting the computer, it will let me in.
I called Apple for support, but the associate said that she has never heard of a problem like this before.
    Any troubleshooting ideas?

have you checked for statup items?
    if you can login.
    apple menu,
    system preferences,
    Users,
click on the user account from the left hand list
click on the login items tab
if you have applications in that list; they could be causing the issue. (crashing the computer and dumping you back to the login window) try removing any thing in the list. See if it helps.

  • Macbook pro changes user picture on its own . Help please.

Does this mean I have some sort of malware?
Reccently my mac started changing my user photo on its own. Even more strangely the photos are only from photobooth.

You likely have a corrupt cache file someplace in OS X.
    12: OnyX cache cleaning
This routine cleans all possible corrupt caches, doesn't delete your data or programs.
Apple doesn't include a easy for the user, system wide cache cleaning process in OS X, something they need to consider implementing.
So we have to depend upon third party software to do this and the best, time tested and free one is OnyX
Sometimes a corrupted cache file can cause strange behavior, slow machine, Dock and fonts doesn't work, beachballs effect, something won't install, Safari acting up etc., just general strangeness that can't be explained. Web browsing slow when all the other machines are fast etc.,
Use the free OnyX matching your OS X version and run all the initial checks
Run all the maintenance and cleaning aspects (except don't delete the log files) and reboot at the end (must)
If any of the initial checks OnyX does gives a warning, then Stop and report, you have a serious drive or other issue.
This will give OS X a enema of sorts (won't delete file or programs) and let it rebuild all the cache and other files, including Spotlight.
You must be through running all the maintenance and cleaning aspects as this is a "catch all" method and any number of corrupted caches may be responsible for your issues. Don't worry, OS X will work fine (and likely faster again) after the caches are cleaned out and rebuilt from their original sources provided you REBOOT when finished using OnyX.
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11582/onyx    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OnyX
    List of proven OnyX successes:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18377471?ac_cid=sa123456#18377471
OnyX also has a Verify > Preferences
(plist) file checker, show the corrupt ones and write them down. So while your in OnyX cleaning your caches, check for corrupted plist files too for the next step below.

  • Macbook pro, mouse pointer acting like paint brush after sleep mode

This just started recently, I went into Systems Preference and tried alternating various point/gestures etc. w/o any luck. Not using any other mouse. What did I do to create this, the only way to stop the brush from erasing the page is to powerdown.

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - You have the standard one year Apple warranty.
#4 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

  • Mouse cursor moving on its own

My mouse cursor keeps moving by itself; it darts quickly across the page, usually on a diagonal. Has this happened to anyone before? I don't download much, expect for torrents for my music...and I stream videos. Other than that I just check email, facebook, etc. I don't have shared internet connections or anything. Could it be the mouse, a hardware problem versus a software problem or virus??
    Thanks for the help!

Could you possibly have your keyboard mouse movements turned on in your Universal Access, under the Mouse tab, in System Preferences, and maybe have something pressing down one of the diagonal cursor movement keys on your keyboard?
If so, the keys j, l (L), 7, 9 keys are the diagonal cursor movement keys.
That's one possibility... Just throwin' that out there..

I've been having a few problem with my MB pro 17inch (late 2011-2012 2.4 Ghz intel core i7 / 4gb DDR3 - Mountain Lion), it over heats quite often using minimal services and on a few occasions it decided to turn it self to sleep mode, then it boots up iphoto so it can load changing pictures as a screen saver, but the problem is I have never used photos as a screen saver I have all screen savers etc turned off, then I have to relog on any ideas anyone?

  • My Macbook Pro constantly disables fonts of its own accord. Anybody know a fix?

For example every few days Avenir (and others) get disabled and I have to re-enable them in Font Book to use.
    I'm on Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and the support article linked below for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode* (by holding down the shift key at the startup chime) to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.

  • Every time I turn my computer on it starts freaking out. The mouse starts moving on its own along with windows coming up and moving off the screen. Also the windows get bigger on their own and the screen slides around like some one else is doing it.

I have checked for viruses, restarted it and nothing works. It doesn't do it all the time just most of the time now.

Try resetting your PRAM by restarting, then holding <CMD>+<OPTION>+p+r until you hear the start up chime twice, then release the keys and allow to boot up.
If that doesn't work try resetting the SMC:

If those two items don't help take your machine  to your nearest Apple store and see if they can assist.

  • Macbook pro trackpad moving on its own!

    hello,
i have problem with my macbook pro, the trackpad moving on by itself! and open applications. i couldn't stop it!

There are a few ways to fix this problem:
    1. You might have some dirt and debris inside your computer. If anything is stuck in the Trackpad there are some ways to take it out. If you have a removable battery, take out the battery and then blow in the Trackpad. If you have a non-removable battery, you can keep pressing down on the sides of the Trackpad, hold it down, and blow in.
    2. The Trackpad might have leveled down making the mouse stay clicked. The only way to do this is if you have a removable battery. Remove the battery and then push the Trackpad up from underneath. If you have a non-removable battery, take your Mac to the Genius Bar.
    3. Your battery could be swelling making the Trackpad move. To check the condition of your battery, hold down the option key and click on the battery icon in the menu bar. If the condition is anything other than Normal, take your Mac to an Apple Store to get it replaced.
    4. Do a SMC reset. To learn how to do that, go to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    5. Do a NVRAM/PRAM reset. To learn how to do that, go tohttp://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    6. If nothing above worked than you should take your Mac to an Apple Store.

i'm in a similar boat and i've spent far too long scouring the apple discussions for a solution (with some issues you're better off googling than coming here for truth). i have also got a case open with my applecare coverage but the responses so far have verged on ignorant (i think they respond badly so you go away), so on we go.
i'm astounded that the terminal command pmset -g doesn't always provide an answer, but it seems a decent part of the solution. checking over the console and activity help too.
i've never had the issue with other hardware, so it must be a combo regarding the newer stuff + lion, wouldn't you say?

  • I just bought a macbook pro and want to use my own iCloud account for my iPhone. How do I sign off of the current account on my iPhone and sign in with my own iCloud account?

I just bought a macbook pro and want to use my own iCloud account for my iPhone. How do I sign off of the current account on my iPhone and sign in with my own iCloud account i set up my mac?

On your phone, Go to "Settings", "iCloud", scroll to the bottom and "sign out."  Assuming you have the the account password/security info of the current account, it will delete everything iCloud related upon your approval (don't worry, everything will remain in the cloud.)  Once signed out, in the same settings location (under "Settings", "iCloud") sign in using your Apple ID and Password.
    Hope this helps.

I could be *very* wrong but did not know you could output from HDMI into displayport consistently with no issues.
Try a mDP to DP cable like this (the mDP end will go directly into the thunderbolt port of your laptop)
