  • MacBook Pro Mouse Problem

The mouse on my MacBook Pro has recently become quite unresponsive. The trackpad works fine, but clicking by pressing on the pad and the ability to click and drag is almost completely non-functional. It doesn't seem to matter how hard I press on the trackpad, sometimes certain locations will respond better than others. Are there any fixes that I could try before having to take the computer into an Apple store?

None of my preferences had been changed from before the problem started. I ended up taking my computer to the Genius Bar and they replaced the trackpad, which was probably the only thing to do to fix it. Thanks for your help though!

How did you install Windows? Did you use Bootcamp Assistant or did you use a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox.
If you used Bootcamp Assistant, did you download and install the Windows Support software (drivers) in accordance with the Bootcamp instructions?

  • My macbook pro has problems booting, no keyboard or mouse working ok.

Hi everyone, today i was using my Macbook pro Mid '10 so i turned it off, when i turned it on again i forgot to boot from the SL installation Disc to repair the disc permissions and so because i was experiencing some trouble with the new OS 10.7.1. So i turned it on and i forgot to boot from the Disc so i interrupted the boot and restarted, for my surprise it took longer than it should and when the SL Disc language screen popped, i could move my mouse, yet i couldn't click it or use the keyboard (as it didn't existed), naturally, i turned it off and tried to boot from Lion partition as i always did (since a month ago or so), but it couldn't boot, the apple logo in the white screen with a little spining circle keep showing for a lot of time, even my macbook pro overheats. Sometimes it does boot from the HDD but i can't get my mouse to click or my keybord to type . I can't reset the PRAM or boot in safe mode because i have Firmware password (which i know) but i can't disable it because i can't boot nor from my HDD or the Installation Disc. What can I do ? At the first i though it was the OS, but now i think is the EFI. Should I restore the firmware?. I live in Mexico in a place where there's no Apple Store or Support Center, only stores such as Sears and that.

Now i realized that mouse and keyboard can work but only after letting the computer a while after the slow load... I still can't remove the firmware password :/.

  • Macbook pro mouse and keyboard don't work after installing drivers.  Help!

I just installed windows XP SP2 on a macbook pro 2.66 i7 running 10.6.4. I installed the boot camp drivers from my OSX install disk and now neither keyboard, trackpad, nor usb mouse work. Not sure what to do other than delete the partition and start over. Any help is much appreciated!

I have the exact same problem with the same two operating systems and the same exact computer. Needless to say, I would also love to get an answer to this question.

  • MacBook Pro Bluetooth problems

Anyone have any problems with BlueTooth mice and the MacBook Pro?
I've got a 2010 17" MacBook Pro running 10.7.1 (but the problem pre-dates Lion). The mouse is "jerky" meaning that when I move the mouse it doesn't follow immediately sometimes, and immediate fine control is near impossible. I've tried two different Magic Mice, swapped the batteries, etc. I've run all software updates.
The only thing I can figure is that it's the Bluetooth connection. And as best I can figure it's unique to this model machine as I didn't have these problems with the previous model.

  • Macbook pro trackpad problems

I have been having trackpad problems on my macbook pro (bought in 2010) for the past couple of days. Not only does it move erratically by itself, but the left click does not respond as it should. Whenever I use the left click, it works as a right click, and I have made no changes in the trackpad options. I have done a battery check through the shift and battery click option, and the response for battery came normal. I have also done a PRAM/NVRAM reset, but the problem still persists. Do I need to replace my battery? Please leave any suggestions. Thanks

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
    3. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    4. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    5. Reset the System Management Controller.
    6. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    7. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • Macbook pro 2011 problems

I am having problems with my macbook pro 2011 version. First of my display will not go to sleep, it will stay on screensaver. I told the sreen to go to sleep in 5 mins and i set hot corners to sleep display. When i go to the corner to make the screen go off, it wont. the sleep light on the front of the macbook pro will turn on idicating that its in screen sleep mode and the keyboard lights turn off but the screen wont. The second problem is that when i close the lid to my mackbook pro and it goes to sleep. Then when you open it and it comes out of sleep, you will be using it for 5 secs and then it goes back to sleep and then move the mouse and it comes back on.

    Try resetting your SMC.

  • Macbook Pro-Mouse and Keyboard cable

So i have a macbook pro running OS X
Specs: 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo
               4 gb 667 mhz ddr2 sdram
               250 gb 7200 rpm
               Dual body design year: 2008
My problem is that the keyboard and mouse have gone out several times and I have found that the sticky note under the battery works for awhile but the cable supplying the keyboard and mouse eventually fail due to a failed design for a machined slot for the cable.  I have first replaced this by buying a new topcase only to have the problem fixed for a year.  Today i have installed a new cable that i purchased online only to have the keyboard and mouse instantly work again flawlessly.  Has apple determined this a faulty design and will they compensate for my misfortune so i can possibly buy a new laptop or should i just switch back to Microsoft? Thanks

I'm just guessing, but I suspect you have a better chance of winning the state lottery than of Apple giving you the price of a new MBP for your old machine with its array of do-it-yourself band-aids. This is probably true even if your state has no lottery.

  • Macbook Pro mouse click delay on 10.6.4 start-up

Just installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and found that while the track pad will move the cursor around the screen, you can not select (click) on anything for the first 3 or 4 minutes after start-up. Updated to 10.6.4 and have the same trouble. Plug in a single button USB apple mouse and still the same trouble. Anyone else having this glitch??? I have a Macbook Pro 17", 2.33 Ghz, 2 Gig of SDRam. Is it a firmware problem?? I'm ready to wipe the drive and do a clean install, but that seems to be a lot of work for something that is annoying but not a devastating problem. Other than that it seems to be a great OS.
    Help!!!

Since I posted I have done several things... reset Pram, repaired disk (there were minor problems) repaired permissions (again minor problems and all were fixed... and both were done booted from the Snow Leopard install disk). On restart the same problem persists, and after checking, there is no keyboard input either. (hadn't checked that before) also on last boot from full shutdown, time from button push to full desktop... 3 minutes 42 seconds... time from full desktop to working mouse click 4 minutes 13 seconds.... That's almost 8 minutes from a cold laptop to a working machine...
Think a disk wipe and clean reinstall would help this??

  • Macbook Pro mouse/keyboard non responding while system still running ...

    Hi,
I just purshased a brand new MacBook Pro 3 weeks ago and I am experiencing a very annoying troubleshotting :
while using the Mac for standard applications ( Firefox, Thunderbird, MacMessenger ), the system seems block as nothing is responding ( mouse/keyboard ) but in fact only the mouse/KB is block.
I tried plugging a USB mouse on the MAc, and it works perfectly, so the MBP is not freezed.
So I decided to reboot and everything comes back to normal until it blocks again.
I think heating may be the issue as using the MBP again few hours after the issue, all is ok.
Did anyone experience such things ? Did anyone had it and solved it ?
Thanks a lot, this is really annoying.

First, try repairing disk permissions as below.
    Repair Permissions:
    Go to: Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
    Select: your Hard Drive
    Select: the First Aid tab
    Select: Repair Permissions
BTW... I can’t keep track of how many owners that have reported anomalies after installing Firefox. Really, problems that you wouldn’t imagine that could be caused by a browser’ seem to manifest when certain conditions arise. Anyway, it’s just an observation and may not be associated with your issue.
