Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's a Mountain Lion feature. To turn it off, open System Preferences > Trackpad > Scroll and Zoom, and turn off "Scroll direction: natural". For the mouse, open System Preferences > Trackpad and turn off "Scroll direction: natural"

  • 2011 MacBook Pro loose trackpad

About a few weeks ago my three-month-old MacBook Pro's trackpad started making very noticable annoying "click" sound (especially on the right side), as if something was loose underneath. I went to my local Apple store, and the genius "tightened up the screws and cleaned out the debris". He said he didn't notice any difference, however the problem persists when I tested it. He offered to replace the trackpad for me free of charge (as my Mac is still in warranty), and the problem seemed to have gone away. However when I got home, the problem arose again, this time on the left side of the trackpad. It is a tiny "click" sound when putting very little amount of pressure on the trackpad (I did not press it down fully). It is not easily noticable, but very annoying indeed. Im probably going to visit them next week again to get the things right. Anyone having the same problem??

The trackpad will "click"when pressed as a feedback that the user have clicked (same as left mouse key) on something.
The "click" occours at very low pressure when pressing left, right, center or downside the pad.
For that i assume, your trackpad work as designed.

My 06' Macbook Pro crashed with vertical, green pixelated lines and now will not advance past the turn-on screen with the apple filled with green lines as well. Then, it says to hold down the power button to restart. I have tried several times to get it past this point but tnothing helped.
I have an appointment at the Apple store today, but was wondering : will all of the information and files on my desktop be lost? Or is this a logic board problem?
Any help is much MUCH appricated.

I'm not sure, if you're out of warrenty it'll cost quite a bit for the replacement of the logic board replacement...unless you have apple care. you could ask apple to try and recover your hard drive but i'm not sure.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Trackpad Issue

Has anyone had any issues with the Macbook Pro Retina Trackpad going to sleep. Whenever I start or restart my Macbook up and try to click on my User name to log in, the trackpad doesn't work. I have to navigate with the keypad and hit return. This also happens sometimes when I am using it as well, and I have use 2 fingers to press the Apple logo and then put the computer to sleep and wake it up again to get the trackpad to work. Any ideas what is causing this? I did initially think it was a program I installed called NoSleep, but I have since uninstalled this and still the same problems, although I have installed a similar program called Lid Sleep, but don't think this would cause a problem.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

You have some type of hardware fault, IMHO. Best to take it to Apple hand have it checked out.

  • HT3964 MacBook Pro beeps and vertical lights on screen

MacBook Pro 2years old vertical lights come on beeps then I have to restart  anyone help please

Try resetting your PRAM. If that doesn't work, you may need to get it looked at. It could be a power supply or hard drive issue.

  • I have a macbook pro mc700, And the scrolling lags or doesn't respond at times. What can I do to fix it?

I have a macbook pro mc700, And the scrolling lags or doesn't respond at times. What can I do to fix it?

There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory and virtual memory.
That can happen for two reasons:
You have a long-running process with a memory leak (i.e., a bug), or
You don't have enough memory installed for your usage pattern.
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
In the Activity Monitor application, select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the  Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The process named "Safari Web Content" renders web pages for Safari and other applications. It uses a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider it a prime suspect.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

  • Problem with my macbook pro multitouch trackpad with firefox beta 4

When i upgraded to firefox 4 beta, some of my macbook pro multitouch trackpad functions are not working properly,
the pinch on the trackpad is not working at all, meaning that i can not zoom in and out from the trackpad, i have to do it with command + and command -, but all other functions are working properly
note that i am not facing this trouble in any other application only in firefox, Safari is working properly

This post has helped most people with the problem: https://support.mozilla.com/bs/questions/781509
Mine still isn't working after this, though, and I don't know why... I used to like Firefox, too.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Trackpad scrolls wrong way

IR and yellow screen issues aside !...
my new macbook pro retina (with Mountain Lion already installed) has an issue with scrolling. It came with 'reverse' scrolling i.e. moving your fingers down the trackpad makes the screen move upwards and vice-versa. I find this confusing so I went to the system prefs to change it. Under the 'Scroll and Zoom' tab the first option is 'Scroll direction: natural - content tracks finger movement'. This is what I wanted. But curiously, this option was already checked, and giving me the reverse scroll direction! I unchecked it, so technically I should now have the reverse direction, but then I had the natural direction?!
Ok, so it's not so much of a problem, as I can change the direction. But obviously it is the wrong way around. Just wondered if anyone else had discovered this on their MBPr and if so, can it be corrected?
    Thanks!

Un check that setting. What Apple thinks is Natural is Backwards from what every other person in the world thinks and Knows it is.

  • New Magic mouse just paired with Macbook pro but will not scroll

I have a MacBook Pro that has never been bluetooth paired with anything. The magic mouse and computer pair and it shows everything is ok, but the mouse doesn't scroll. If I physically move it it will click, but otherwise it does not respond. I updated all of the software and have OS 10.6.8. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Look in System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse    Check scrolling.

  • MacBook Pro (2010) Trackpad 2 finger scroll gesture

I upgraded to OS Lion and I cannot get the scroll direction: natural two finger scroll to work.  I have tried playing around with the trackpad in system preferences to no avail.  Any ideas from anyone?  I saw something about Terminal in another thread but I don't understand.  It is a nice feature which used to work when I initially installed OS Lion but it appears to have flaked out on me down the line.
    Thanks in advance.

Check in System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad tab > trackpad options.. button > Check Scrolling. (with or without inertia).

  • MacBook Pro 15" - Trackpad unusable

I have a MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.53Ghz 4GB RAM). I think it is a first-gen unibody model.
At times, my trackpad becomes unusable. It is as if the button is always pressed. When I have my laptop hooked up to my external monitor, mouse, and keyboard, I get very erratic mouse movements at times, and sometimes the button seems to get locked. It's definitely not a mouse issue, as a restart temporarily solves the problem.
After some research and investigation, it appears that at times, the battery swells. The battery sits directly beneath the trackpad and when it swells, it applies pressure to the trackpad. When this happens, the trackpad registers as the button being down (a mouse click), and the computer becomes unusable -- whether I'm using the laptop itself or whether I'm using it with an attached keyboard and mouse, as the mouse and trackpad fight with each other.
This problem becomes worse in other conditions:
    - When I fly and use the Airline Magsafe adapter, the computer also becomes unusable. Either the air pressure causes the battery to swell, or the battery (since it doesn't charge) swells, making my computer totally unusable on a plane.
    - When I use the laptop by placing it on my lap (when using it, say, while sitting on a couch or in bed, or when sitting on a chair), the center of the laptop rests on my lap, which applies even a tiny amount of pressure to the center of case, which presses the battery against the trackpad, causing the issue. On a desk, the laptop rests on the rubber feet, so the problem only occurs after the battery starts to swell. Still the MacBook is totally unusable as a real "laptop" as the trackpad is rendered useless if I try to use the computer when it's on my lap.
    - I've noticed that the fan comes on, and stays on, more often than I can remember. I don't know why the computer is getting hotter, but wonder if the battery issue is somewhat causing this (or if the reverse -- the heat is causing the battery to swell more).
    - I've noticed that if I remove the battery altogether, the trackpad suddenly becomes wonderful with full clickiness, as if my computer were new. As soon as I return the battery to the case, the problem recurs.
In any case, I'm planning a trip to the Apple Store tomorrow to see what can be done. But in case others have experienced issues, I thought I'd share it here -- this problem has really been bugging me and at least on some level, it's comforting to know I've finally found the problem. I just hope there's a solution to this.

Some stories have a happy ending
Indeed, it was the battery that was causing the problem. I took my computer to the local Genius Bar and we tested the following:
    - We ran a diagnostic that forced the CPU to work hard to heat up the machine. The diagnostic ran for 15 minutes.
    - We noticed the trackpad becoming less responsive as the test went on.
    - We removed the battery from the laptop and placed it on the flat surface at the Genius Bar. You could see that the battery had swelled, and the battery wasn't sitting flat on the surface. Compared to a new battery, the old battery would wobble on the surface of the counter. It was obvious that the battery was swelling and applying pressure to the trackpad from beneath.
    - The EXTREMELY nice guy at the Genius Bar replaced the battery, which he said was indeed covered under my AppleCare plan.
So far, I haven't had any issues with the trackpad since. The new battery seems to have done the trick. Hopefully my experience will help someone else who experiences a similar problem.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Trackpad shoots down and left

I bought my MacBook Pro less than 90 days ago. OS X Yosemite. I thought that the trackpad issue (it shoots down and left whenever it feels like it) was due to sensitivity...or perhaps my fingers/hand may be too close to the pad. So I turned all trackpad options off except for the double click and scroll. I also turned off devices that could be interfering with the Macbook - or removed them from the vicinity of my machine. I turned off bluetooth capability.
Still, when I'm using the trackpad...sure enough within a minute the curser swings down the to the left.
As I'm gamer this really ***** - I'll be playing a game and suddenly my screen is minimized and I'm scrambling to open it up again. I'll play the game for another two or three minutes and wooo...there goes my curser! Honestly, it's driving me nuts. This is a brand new machine.
Another Mac owner suggested that I buy a mouse. I haven't used a mouse since I owned a desk top. I just want this machine to work!

It could be connected to interference from other electronics in the immediate area.    If you think that is unlikely and you have access to an authorised Apple outlet or store it would be best to take it back and have them sort it.   It is under warranty so should cost nothing.

  • Partially stuck mouse trackpad affecting scroll and mouse use

On my Macbook Pro Retina, I noticed the track pad kind of half stick in the lower left corner. It's almost like when the button would jam but a halfway catch i feel when i put light pressure on different parts of the trackpad.
Ever since the partial stick my scrolling and use of the mouse is affected as if i had an extra finger down doing other things or moving more slowly... Or it'll scroll normal speed then slow down drastically and vice versa. I've tried restarting and noted that it's probably a physical issue because nothing help except very carefully trying to counter with pressure on the upper right area...
Has this happened to anyone? How much is it gonna cost me to fix it? I just got this Macbook less than a year ago (Jan-Feb 2013) and I'm sad the trackpad is already giving me problems even though I RARELY actually CLICK with the button... How did the button manage to (partially) stick?

Make an appointment with the genius bar at your local Apple Store.
I had a similar problem, they replaced my trackpad and keyboard $285.00

  • Could these (MacBook Pro) keyboard/trackpad problems be Leopard related?

My (MacBook Pro's) keyboard and trackpad stop working every couple of minutes. And then suddenly comes back. The capslock key and it's LED is also not responding anymore when it happens.
Could this be a software thing? I'm about to send this MacBook Pro back and get a replacement, but that would be kind of pointless if this is a software problem caused by Leopard.
    Anyone in the same situation?
    S.

I have a MacBook Pro running 10.4.11, and mine started out having the exact same problems:
First, the keyboard took 2-3 minutes to be recognized after waking from sleep. Then, a few days later, the keyboard and trackpad would quit unexpectedly during use, took a few minutes to start working again. Then it went off a cliff from there. For the past 5 days, my keyboard and trackpad are not working whatsoever, I've tried all of the suggestions I can find online, nothing works. From the moment I startup, to the moment I shut down (thankfully I have a wireless Mighty Mouse) neither of them are recognized. I've had it on for 8 hours straight and it still didn't recognize the keyboard or trackpad. They don't show up in the system profiler under the USB section, and on top of that the on screen keyboard only types in lowercase, nothing happens when I hit the shift or Caps Lock key on the on screen keyboard.
I called Apple 4 days ago, they said that this is a priority issue and hope to have a fix out within a couple of weeks...yes...a couple of weeks, they said that they had the fix, and were just waiting on patents to go through (you have to be kidding me right?). Their temporary "fix" is to buy an external keyboard and mouse.
This is not by any means a Leopard only issue, and you can trace posts about this online all the way back to October 1, 2007, well before Leopard was released to the public.
The crazy thing is, if you look at this and don't assume it was caused by Apple, this bug behaves exactly like a virus, and a very well written one at that.
