Macbook Pro - no power with AC adapter or battery

I recently had the logic board replaced due to the NVidia issue on my Macbook Pro. It was working great when I got it back, except that the battery was jammed because the tech put the RAM cover on slightly wrong. I tried to get the battery out - pried a bit but nothing crazy. Then took it back to the tech to remove the battery and he pried it out gently. Now the computer won't start - just dead. With or without battery and I have tried resetting the power controller. No luck...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. There is absolutely no visible damage to the computer from the stuck battery.

Sending it off to Apple is likely your best option. I'm not sure I would have much trust in a tech who put the RAM cover on wrong.
I think you probably have a damaged Left I/O Board, which is what contains the power port. The board may have been damaged when the logic board was replaced.
Do send it off--I think it is beyond the ability of your local tech.
Good Luck!

  • My Macbook Pro loses power with battery down to 85%

I have had this problem for about two weeks. My Macbook Pro runs fine when attached to the power adapter, but when it is on battery power, no matter what applications I am running, the computer suddenly turns off after about 10 minutes when the battery reads about 85% charge.  It will not restart until it is reattached to the power adapter. The computer is from about 2006 and has the original battery.
I ran diagnostics and it says the battery is working okay. I ran the utilities application to see how much CPU was in use, and it was only about 5% for all CPU capacity, and none of the running applications seemed to be using much of the hard disc.
I am planning to go to the Apple Store, I suspect they will tell me I need a new battery. Can it be tested at the Apple store out of the computer? Can I test it at home with my home voltmeter?

This is a sign of a battery that has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced. Getting nearly nine years of use from a consumer rechargeable battery is a small miracle, congrats!

  • Using my macbook pro whole day with the power adapter , will it affect my battery? Please help

Using my macbook pro whole day with the power adapter , will it affect my battery? Please help

It doesn't affect the battery. You can use your MacBook Pro plugged in all the time without damaging the battery. You only have to be sure that you unplug it and run a battery cycle (drain the battery without letting the Mac turn off and charge it fully) at least once a month to keep the battery life.

    Best Regards,

The MacBook Pro charging circuit will charge the battery until it reaches 100% charge and then switch to power mode for the MBP.  When the battery drops to 93-95% charge the circuit will switch back to charging mode to top off the battery charge again.  You will not harm the battery or MBP by leaving it plugged in most of the time.
There are many good headphone/microphone combinations on the market, best really is more a function of how much money you want to spend.  Check those offered in the Apple on-line store for features/price to see what would best fit your needs.  You can also look at audio equipment suppliers, all the earphones need is a standard 3.5 mm plug.

  • HP Pavilion external monitor has stopped working with my Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) with OSX 10.8.3

HP Pavilion external monitor has stopped working with my Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) with OSX 10.8.3.  When I purchased the monitor a few weeks ago it worked perfectly when computer was in clamshell mode or with lid open. Now external display has stopped working.  When I turn on display it scans for signal but does not find it and then immediately goes into sleep mode.  I am using a DVI connection with the adapter for the mini display plug.  REALLY FRUSTRATING. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

    Hi lancekatigbak,
If you're having issues with the display out on your MacBook Pro, you may want to take a look at the troubleshooting steps in the following article:

    Hey Clintonfrombirmingham
I called Apple technical support in Denmark, but with no positive reply.
She couldn't do anything, and said that They had sent a recall Email about the problem and with their offer to repair the Macbook Pro, but I'd never recieved an Email about the problem. She wasn't in power to make an exception. It can't be true that i paid a lot of money, for a product that can't barely stand on its own feets, Apple didn't tell me that the product I was about to buy, would restart every 5 minute. and now when  they know the problem, they wont repair it? it just don't make sense for me. If a car seller discovers that all the brakes in a car he had sold, will crash after some years he will call all the cars back to repair no mater what. i just don't understand how Apple will make good service for their custumers, by extending the warranty from 2 to 3 years, but wont take the computers there is a little bit to old, 4 months will make the difference. i can't believe it.
    What can i do now?
    best regards Oskar

  • I keep getting kicked off of my wifi with my MacBook Pro but not with my IPAD?

I keep getting kicked off of my wifi with my MacBook Pro but not with my IPAD, what do I do?

    Hi, mmayers.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of the router can correct the issue that you are experiencing.  However, the issue could be a little more complex.  Wi-Fi routers need adjustments to settings periodically for optimized performance with the constant progression of wireless device technology.  Below, I have included two articles.  The first article will cover basic Wi-Fi troubleshooting.  The second article covers the recommended settings for current Wi-Fi access points.

  • My MacBook Pro's power source is draining my RAM.

I've got a MacBook Pro (mid 2010) with 8gb of RAM (just installed new/more RAM last week).  For some reason, my power supply seems to be draining my memory. When my machine is connected to its power source, my RAM dwindles down to 10mb.  If I remove the power cord, the memory goes back up into the 3gb to 4gb range.  Anyone know why this is happening and how to remediate this issue?  Thanks in advance.

Don't "calibrate" the battery, that's a waste of time.
While the problem exists, launch Activity Monitor according to the following:
Using Activity Monitor to read System Memory and determine how much RAM is being used (OS X Mountain Lion and earlier)
Make the window large enough to capture as much as possible.
In the View menu, select Active Processes.
In the View > Columns menu, de-select User and make sure that Memory is selected.
Select the Memory tab, and click the Memory column so that the triangle is pointed "down", sorting that column in decreasing order.
What you see should resemble the following:
Post a screenshot (see below) of the Activity Monitor window.
To take a screenshot hold ⌘ Shift 4 to create a selection crosshair. Click and hold while you drag the crosshair over the area you wish to capture and then release the mouse or trackpad. You will hear a "camera shutter" sound. This will deposit a screenshot named "Screen Shot...." followed by a date and time on your Desktop.
When you post your response, click the "camera" icon above the text field:
This will display a dialog box which enables you to choose the screenshot file (remember it's on your Desktop) and click the Insert Image button.
⌘ Shift 4 and then pressing the space bar captures the frontmost window.
⌘ Shift 3 captures the entire screen.
Don't capture or upload any information you consider personal.
Drag the screenshot to the Trash after you post your reply.

My MacBook Pro 15-inch with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processors just failed. Do you guys know if apple still fixes them?

I tried last week. The best I could get was a discount on the repair, but the damage to my logic board by the GPU caused it to no longer boot. The program ended in December last year, but it has been extended in the past.
If you have no other damage you might be able to get a flat rate tier 1 repair if you are in the USA.

I've recently been given a macbook pro from uni, with lots of adobe software on. I want to pair it with my iMac which has music etc and is it possible to get the software to the imac and the files to the macbook?Giving me the best of both :-)

You would need the original installation disks or files for the Adobe software to get it onto your iMac, and having it on two computers may not be allowed by your university's licensing. Talk to whoever issued the MacBook.
As to the music, just copy it over to the MacBook, either via Home Sharing, file sharing, or an external storage medium (hard drive, USB flash drive, etc.).
    Regards.

How do I set up my new Macbook Pro to associate with my Apple ID so I can download purchased music?
Under 'Manage Devices' it only lists my iPhone and iMac. I've bought stuff on my new Macbook Pro using my Apple ID, but I can't find music I previously purchased using the iMac.

Oh, wait, I've found it. Silly me!

Can't connect macbook pro to internet with airport extreme

If you have ethernet still on your MBP plug it in by ethernet and tell me if that works.
Tell me how the Airport is setup.. what broadband modem and router you have.
What OS on the laptop? Yosemite I guess.. since it is the most troublesome.
Did it work before whatever change was made? Has it worked in the past? When did it stop and what did you do that coincided with it stopping?
    Upgrade to Yosemite??

  • Windows 7 professional 64 Bit on MacBook Pro Retina 15 with Boot Camp ?

Hallo guys, i have a big problem with installing Windows 7 professional 64 Bit on my MacBook Pro Retina 15 with Boot Camp. No matter what i try i get a black screen after partitioning or get a message like " No bootable disk" or  " No System Disk availabe".
My Mac has : OS X version 10.8.2, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB memory, 2.6 GHz Intel i7 and is only a week old
My Boot Camp is version 5.0.1
My Windows InstallingDVD is one year old now, i needed it to build a PC last year, hope that doesnt make a difference, its a full version, so not just for upgrading.
From what i saw in the apple support it should work on my macbook. I hope someone can help me.
    Thanks in advance.

Ok, problem solved. I looked a bit more here in the questions and there was the answer and its quite simple.
Somehow an USB-stick makes problems while Windows wants to install, i dont know why. So i just made everything over DVDs and now everything works fine.
