Macbook Pro not accepting discs

Hi all!
I have a problem today with my Macbook Pro...
It will not accept any discs. I can push the disc in almost all the way and it doesn't grab them as it should. I can hear a series of very faint clicks - but that's it!
I tried resetting SMC - and drutil eject internal in Terminal - no difference.
Is there anythign else I can try?
Thanks!

There is definitely nothing in the drive - and I very rarely use it...

  • MacBook Pro Not Accepting Time Machine Restore

I'm officially stumped. Let me explain...
In preparation for upgrading OS 10.9.5 to Yosemite, I completed a full backup of my MacBook Pro, purchased in August 2010. The following morning, (I'd not yet upgraded to Yosemite), I noticed that the Drive Pulse monitor for Drive Genius was red. I checked the log and it said there was a volume consistency error with Mac HD. I ran Disk Utility and verified the disk - it said there was an issue (don't remember what) and to boot into the recovery partition and repair the disk. I did so and the drive could not be repaired, so it told me to format it. Good thing I'd just backed up last night, right?
I formatted the drive and then from within the recovery partition, went to restore the drive from the backup. It said there was an error and the backup couldn't be restored. I tried restoring the previous backup - same issue. Ok, so I then tried to reinstall the OS from the recovery partition. It wanted to install 10.8, which the App Store said was not available. I then created a bootable USB drive with Mavericks on it. The OS installed just fine and within the OS setup, I selected to restore my backup from the previous evening. The system went through the whole process of restoring the backup, only when the system restarted, nothing was there. Hmm... I tried using Migration Assistant, same problem. I then made a bootable USB drive of Yosemite, which installed just fine. Tried restoring the backup both during the OS install and using Migration Assistant - no luck.
I took the MBP to the Apple Store today. They first ran a diagnostic on the hard drive - it passed. They then reformatted the entire drive, which included wiping out the recovery partition. As part of the format, they first formatted using the Apple partition table and then re-did the format using GUID. Next up they re-installed the base OS that came with the system, which was 10.6. The OS installed fine, but 10.6 couldn't be upgraded to 10.9.5, so they did a restore using 10.9.5. They then told me to try the restore again when I got home, which I did. No luck. Apple Store also said if things don't work, come back with the MBP and the Time Capsule since they can manually pull data out of a backup and put it back on the system.
Two additional pieces of info to mention. When I log into my Time Capsule (I have the 3TB version), the backup for this MBP is there. I can open it, navigate through it, etc. Second piece of info is I just successfully restored a backup of my girlfriend's MBP onto my MBP.  I'm currently trying again to restore my backup, but does anyone know what's going on or have any suggestions?

  • Macbook pro not loading disc

I have recently moved house and my macbook was not in use for a couple of months as it ran out of battery and I had packed away the charger! I have now moved in and plugged the charger in however the disk drive doesn't want to load any media! I can just push the disc in so far and then it stops and the motor doesn't activate to 'suck' the disc in! It allows me to push it about a third of the way in before it feels like it's hitting something but as it's going in this far i am pretty certain that there is not another disc inside (and if there was it's certainly not letting me eject it!).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Based on the symptoms you describe, the optical drive may be kaput.  An Apple store genius bar appointment is probably your best option.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook pro not accepting password

Everytime I try to log into my mac, the password is rejected. So during start up I have to hold down, "Command" and "R" which takes me to the utilites page and from there I have to use the start up disk to access my account. I've already tried using terminal "resetpassword" and am unable to click on anything in the box that appears. Other than that, everything else seems fine. The problem just started today but I did stop using it the previous night when I got the spinning wheel of death and safari became unresponsive so I shut it and left it.

No need to use OS X Recovery (Command + R) to reset an admin password.

  • MacBook Pro iTunes says "disc burner/software not found"?

MacBook Pro iTunes says "disc burner/software not found".  What does this mean?

    Hi Jetx273,
If you are getting an error message of "Disc Burner or Software Not Found" when trying to burn a CD in iTunes, you may want to take a look at the following article:

  • New macbook pro wont accept password

I moved everything over from my i5 MBP to a new i7 via utilities migration assistant. However the new macbook pro wont accept my password, nor will it recognise the other user account passwords. Works fine on the i5.
In Disc Utilities, change password asks me to select an image, but does not light up "change" when I select user.
    Any ideas?

Is you new MBP the 2010 model or is it a newer model running Mountain Lion?
If it's a newer model running ML, you can simply boot into your Recovery partition (hold down the Command and R keys whilst booting) and when you get to the Recovery window, select Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type
    resetpassword
and hit Return. A small app will open that will allow you to change the password for the user that you select. Then just reboot and use the new password.
If, indeed, you're running 10.6.4, you'll need the installation disc to use the Reset password utility.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • I bought Snow Leopard and my MacBook Pro rejects the disc. Trying to upgrade from Leopard in order to upgrade to Lion.  Why is the disc being rejected before it even shows on the desktop?

Snow Leopard Update.  I bought the updated but my computer - a MacBook Pro - rejects the disc befoe anything appears on the desktop.  I am trying tp upgrade from Leopard to Lion. Does anyone know why this might be happening?
    Thanks

You need to check to see if your machine can handle Lion, it needs 4GB and a Intel Core 2 Duo or better.
Download the free MacTracker and see more specifics of everything.
    http://mactracker.ca/
Next, you must realize that your Rosetta PPC based programs will not operate under Lion, likely you will have to buy all new programs.
If you machine is dated, a lot of the trackpad gesture features you won't have.
Check the source of all your third party sofftware and hardware drivers for scanners, all-in-one's and the like to make sure they work or there are updates, or upgrades available and how much.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
IDEALLY, it's best to backup files and then "fresh install" Snow Leopard clean, then upgrade to Lion.
Also you should make a option bootable clone of Snow Leopard on a external drive, this will allow you to return if something doesn't work.
You can learn all of this and more at my exhaustive post here, enjoy.

hi, how do i stop my macbook pro not to automatically connect to a wifi connection that is not my preferred network? i want to automatically connect my macbook to my preferred network everytime i turn on my laptop. thank you.

System Preferences > Network > WiFi
To give a network the highest priority, drag the name of the network to the top of the list. This is the network your computer will attempt to join first.

    Hi there nina777s,
You may want to try resetting the PRAM and SMC on your Mac as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

  • Why will macbook pro not go to sleep with Lion OS?

Why will macbook pro not go to sleep with Lion OS?

Test after each of the following steps that you haven’t already tried:
    Step 1
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter ▹ Wake for network access: uncheck. You may need to unlock the preference pane by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your administrator password.
    Step 2
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Schedule… ▹ Start up or wake: uncheck
    Step 3
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Print & Scan ▹ Open Print Queue...
Check all printers for unfinished jobs. Deal with any you find.
    Step 4
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse or trackball, and monitor, if applicable.
    Step 5
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Enter “powerd” (without the quotes) in the "Filter" text field. Select the powerd process and click the Quit Process button in the toobar (stop-sign icon.) In the sheet that opens, click Force Quit. You’ll be prompted for your administrator password. The process will be relaunched immediately.
    Step 6
Boot in safe mode and log in. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. Don’t launch any applications at first. If sleep still doesn’t work properly, back up all data and reinstall the Mac OS. After that, if you still have the issue, make a “Genius” appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If sleep now works as expected, go on to the next step.
    Step 7
Still in safe mode, launch the usual set of applications that are running when you have the problem, including your login items, one at a time, testing after each one. Some applications may not work; skip them. You might be able to identify the cause of the problem this way.
    Step 8
If sleep is still working after you’ve launched all the usual applications, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test again. If sleep still works, you’re done, at least for the moment.
If you still have the sleep issue after booting out of safe mode, post again.

  • Why does the internet on my new macbook pro not work when my old macbook's does?

Why does the internet on my new macbook pro not work when my old macbook's does? I'll have to turn the wifi off and back on multiple times to get the internet to continue to work on my Macbook Pro (running mountain lion but did it on lion also) when it runs fine on my old white Macbook (running lion). Is there something I can do to fix it or do I just have to deal with it?

Here is your fix .. I have uploaded my properly calibrated profile get it here :
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YAJL6A9X
And it should go to your user folder/Library/ColorSync/Profiles
if you have one already you can rename either one ..
and then go to system preferences - displays - color to select the profile .
you will get rid of the blue tint while keeping correct color and gamma
This is for the newer 2010 MBP's altho if same display was used might also give good results in the previous models as well . .

macbook pro not displaying music library: What do I need to do to show music files in Library? They are not showing up.

If you click View, Show Sidebar you will see the other libraries under Shared in the left hand column. Click on the Library you want and you can expand it to select Music, Movies etc. Select whatever items you want and click import if you want to move them to your Library.
You will have to have all computers authorised with the relevant Apple ID's
    Store  >  Authorise this computer...
This is separate from the Home Sharing username and password and is to allow playing of DRM Movies, TV shows etc from the other computer.
If both Computers use the same apple id this step is not required.

  • Macbook pro not working without battery

my macbook pro not working if i remove the battery
& if the battery is empty my macbook pro not working before charging

    Try an SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
You should not run on AC with the battery removed. The MBP should work that way, but the OS throttles back the CPU so running like that is not recommended.
