Macbook Pro not connecting to internet after closing

I work from home and also have a toddler running around most days.  I am always working and then due to something happening at home have to close my computer and come back a bit later.  This last week everytime I close my laptop and come back I'll open it up but it won't connect to the internet.  I have to restart it and then it does fine.  I'm now restarting it ALL day.  I have no idea what is causing it or how to fix it.  I usually have some issues when I have a software update but I keep checking and it says I don't have one.  Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on some Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • MacBook Pro loses connection to Internet after sleep using Airport Time Capsule

I recently upgraded to Mavricks and then added a new Airport Time Capsule, and now I my MBP will not connect to the wireless LAN after waking up from sleep mode.  My MBP worked great for over a year with an non-Apple router, so I am thinking that there is a new Apple computer-to-Apple Router issue going on. Any thoughts, suggestions?
I read all the threads and have followed all the simple advice, such as making sure the Airport is at the top of the network priority list, etc, to no avail.  I end up having to reboot my MBP to get reconnected, which is super frustrating.

    Hello ghesser,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your MacBook Pro after setting up your Time Capsule.  I would be concerned about this too.
I recommed reviewing the full article and specifically the section labeled, "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly" in the following article to resolve an issue like the one you described:

This can be caused by a number of issues.
Was everything working and then suddenly stopped??
Or is this a new clean setup and has never worked.
Do you have a cable modem which is not a router and the TC setup in bridge? That will cause it. The TC must be in router mode, ie dhcp and nat.
Check the IP the MBP gets including dns and gateway..
Then check the ipad/iphone.. post what IP dns and gateway (router in applespeak) they get.

    1st problem see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls
2nd problem, to close Firefox properly use File > Exit
:not with the [x] in upper right corner which close window
    :see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs#Hang_at_exit
:if restarting use "Restartless Restart" extension as mentioned there.

  • IPad Air can not connect to internet after updating to iOS8.

Safari CAN NOT OPEN ANY PAGES because the iPad is not connected to internet. I updated to iOS8 last night and have been trying to reset my ipad as well. However, the problem is still there. It even says my Apple ID incorrect. GUYS! DO NOT UPDATE YOUR iPAD TO iOS8 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!!!!!!!! Luckily, I did not do anything with my phone. PHEW

Other threads I've read have had people note that the following solutions have worked for them:
If you have a 5 GHz wi-fi router, turn off 5 GHz support and let it fall back to 2.4 GHz.
Change wi-fi router to auto-select channels, or manually select a different channel than what it's on now.
    Disable iCloud Drive.
I'm not saying that that any of these will work, but it's something to try (one at a time).

  • MacBook Pro not connecting to school internet! Big Issue! Please Help!

My school uses a service called solutionip.com. When you move into the dorms they give you a code to access the internet from. When you connect to the wireless network and try to use the internet, it automatically takes you to a solutionip website and asks you for your access code. My Mac originally did this, but then all of a sudden it stopped working. It doesn't automatically pull up the webpage, and even when we do get the webpage up. None of the codes we enter work, it begins to take the code and gets stuck in the process and eventually times out. The codes won't take at all. And they've all been new codes created for me by the school! I've done everything and my latest attempt at fixing this even had me delete everything in my computer to start over again! I'm going crazy here! I don't understand why my computer would do this! At first I thought it was Lion that I had installed and now I've restored my new MacBook Pro w/the iCore chip in it back to Snow Leopard. I'm going to try it tomorrow with snow leopard, see if that works. But if not. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions anyone? It's the only way I can get internet through the school. Sigh.

If you're doing everything right then it's an issue you need to take up with either the IT at your school and/or solutionip.com

  • Macbook pro not connecting to the wireless internet

    Hello All,
This is my very first mac (a macbook pro) and for some reason it sees my wireless router, and says connected, but when i open safari the pages doesn't load. I am a beginner with macs and I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
    -Jay

You probably connected but failed to get an IP address. If you have other network devices turn them off, restart the router and see if you can get access to the Internet then. Otherwise click on the network diagnostics button (or which ever appears in Safari's failure) and see if it'll give you clues.

  • New Macbook Pro Wont Connect to Internet

I just got a Macbook Pro today and it wont connect to the my wireless connection. The only thing I can think of is when I was in the start up it ask what I connected to the internet with and because I was not within my own network I press "This computer does not connect to the internet" option. How do I change this?

I'm using a Linksys WRT54G and ran into these exact symptoms today. After downloading all available updates, dwiddling with a bunch of stuff I didn't really understand (but that's never stopped a hacker like me), getting frustrated in trying to figure out how to either make a reservation with a local Mac Store Genius or talk to a real person at Apple Support I tried unplugging my wireless router and resetting it. My computer came up and is now working fine... go figure.
I've got to admit that I was ready to panic after looking at the discussion board. I'm an old PC person and now consider myself a "convert" to Macs. Glad it didn't let me down.

  • Macbook Pro not connecting to Home Wi-Fi but connects to work Wi-Fi

    Hi there.
I am using Macbook Pro with Mac OS X 10.8.5. My Macbook is suddenly not getting wireless internet connection from my Wireless Router (It is connected to my Wi-Fi though). All other devices (iPhone, iPad, Windows PC) are connected to the same Router and have internet access without any problem. Same Macbook works fine with the Wi-Fi at work but having problem connecting to internet with Wi-Fi at home.
Well, I have been looking for the solution to this problem for a week now. Here is what I have already tried
    - Zapped PRAM (didn’t work)
    - Deleted System Configuration Folder in /Library/Preferences/ (didn’t work)
    - Removed Network connections and tried adding them again in Wi-Fi Advanced Settings (didn’t work).
    - Tried Apple’s Wireless Diagnostics (didn’t work)
    - Tried Wireless Assistant (didn’t work)
    - Tried creating new locations (didn’t work)
    - Tried deleting and adding Wi-Fi service (didn’t work)
    - Reset Router (didn’t work)
    - Changed security setting in Router from WPA2 to open (didn’t work)
    - Tried dscacheutil - flushcache
The only thing works is changing DNS server to 8.8.8.8 from default (192.168.1.1 which is greyed out). It works but speed is very slow which is already very annoying.
Need suggestions on what to do in this regard?

    Solved! (for me anyhow).
I removed all entries in my 'Manage Networks' tab, and reentered the home network info (SSID is not broadcast, WPA), then the phone immediately found the network.
Mobile data happened to be on at the time (no idea if that has anything to do with it).
    Chain of events
    - received phone while out of town.  everything worked as expected. no chance to try wifi on the road.
    - returned home after holidays and tried wifi at home, no luck (like above).  I did have some typos and all subsequent attempts to connect were via 'edits' to an existing network entry.  Note, my laptops and Nook Color had no trouble connecting.
    - went to work, wifi worked flawlessly in office as well as at local starbucks
    - returned home and tried again, numerous attempts. no luck
    - restarted router (TDS/actiontec GT724-WG) to no effect
    - tried to reset router (forgot my pw, fortunately, it didn't reset)
    - finally gave up, figured that I need to change some router setting- recall SSID is not broadcast, and using WPA
    - grabbed a beer (the secret solution?), and had a thought to simply remove my earlier entries in the network list and reenter the correct info cleanly.
    - phone immediately found network and connected- good to go!
Now, I really really like the phone (if I can just get Tango to work...)
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Macbook pro not connecting wirelessly to HP officejet 8650 but other mac devices connect fine

I have Verizon FIOS and I just upgraded my router to a new one that Verizon sent me in the mail. I changed the wifi password on all my devices after installing the router and they are all connected, however now my macbook pro won't connect to the wireless printer. My ipad will connect with the printer, so the printer is connected. My macbook pro is definitely online since I get internet, but it won't see the printer. I called Verizon and they basically said "it should work".
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I don't have my macbook in front of me but from mmory,  I think you open preferences and select printers/devices and then there should be an option to search for wireless printers.
In the past when I've had a similar problem, i found that connecting with a USB helped re-established the connection.
