Setting up new ipad 2. Won't accept my PW for my Airport Extreme (Wi Fi network?)  Where is the PW for my Wi Fi? I am stymied. Can I set up through my MacBook Pro, which IS connected to my WiFi network?

If you could provide the make and model number of the modem that the AirPort Extreme will be connecting to, we can likely tell you a bit more about what to expect in the way of getting the AirPort set up and working.
Unfortunately, "plug and play" does not apply here. You will need to set up and configure the AirPort Extreme using your iPad or iMac to name the AirPort as a device, assign a device password, name the wireless network, assign a device password and a few other things.
Once the AirPort Extreme is set up, you can connect the PC to one of the LAN <--> ports on the AirPort Extreme using an Etherent cable.
The iPad and iMac will connect to the wireless network that the AirPort Extreme provides.

  • MacBook Air will not automatically connect to my home network

    Hi.
My new MBA has an issue. Every single time I open it, it says none of my preferred networks is available. I connect to my home network every day, but it refuses to automatically connect. All other computers at home do (MacMini, MacBook, MacBook Pro, and iMac). I select my home network in the WiFi dropdown and it connects just fine. If I close the lid and immediately open it back up, it has already lost the home network connection.
The home network is first in order in preferred networks. Any ideas why this is happening? It's getting to be a pain...
    Thanks.

Numerous threads on this issue in the MacBook Air as well as MacBook Pro forums. Unfortunately I've been unable to pinpoint exactly what's the issue, if it is machine specific or OS specific or a particular build of the OS. Mostly because I've been able to replicate the issue across 10.7.1 as well as 10.7.2 on a half dozen different models of machines.

  • MacBook Pro doesn't connect to a wpa network.

My MacBook Pro won't connect to the internet when I set my router to have wpa security a posed to wpa2, which was what it was when it was set up.
I Want to set it to wpa because the sony psp won't connect to a wpa2 secured network so It would be great if I could change it so all of my devices could connect with out trouble.
    Thanks,

    Hi JPait996,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your MacBook Pro connects to your Wi-Fi network when it's setup as WPA2 but there is an issue connecting to a WPA network. What happens when your MacBook Pro tries to join the network and does it get a valid IP address? The article below provides lots of great tips that should help you resolve the  Wi-Fi connection issue.

  • MacBook Pro not detecting display resolution properly on Leopard 10.5.2

I have a 15" 2.2ghz MacBook Pro that I recently upgraded to Leopard. When I am home, I connect the MBP to a USB keyboard and mouse, and a Samsung 226BW 22" display using a DVI cable. Prior to the Leopard upgrade, I could connect the components, close the MBP, hit the spacebar on the USB KB and the MBP would wake up using the Samsung in its native resolution of 1680x1050.
Since the upgrade there are two major problems. I can no longer wake the MBP up with the KB. It sounds like it is waking up, the Apple logo illuminates for a moment, then it immediately goes back to sleep. Secondly, the MBP is not detecting the correct resolution of the monitor. It shows both as being 1440x900 no matter what. Under the system profiler, it has exactly the same description for both the MBP display as well as the Samsung 22". I have already read other posts and performed the following:
    Reset the SMC
    Reset the VRAM
    Trashed the windowserver.plist and rebooted
Any ideas on why this may be happening? Thanks in advance.

You are not alone. Spent over an hour with AppleCare support. The engineer was fantastic, but when he got out of his area of expertise and tried to take me to level 2 support, the level 2 folks said 'contact samsung' That's obviously a delay tatic. This is very clearly a 10.5.2 upgrade issue. My external 24 inch samsung display was working fine prior to the upgrade and now it's stuck on 1440X900. They took me through PRAM resets, cache clearing, plist removal etc.
Very disappointed to see Apple take a very microsoft like stance to a problem that is obviously a bug in the graphics drivers for 10.5.2. The engineer also indicated that this was a known issue, but the docs on it are 'eyes only'. I question that culture as well.

  • MacBook Pro not detecting flash drive

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro laptop (latest model) and I've encountered a bit of a problem with it.
When I plug a USB flash drive into either of the USB ports on the laptop, the computer fails to detect the drive and show it on the desktop.
However, when connected to my Thunderbolt Display and with the USB drive connected through the monitor or even through the keyboard (which is connect to the monitor) the laptop detects the USB drive without any issues. Also when I connect the keyboard directly into the laptop via USB and then plug the USB drive into the keyboard it detects it just fine.
The problem only occurs when plugging the USB drive directly into one of the laptop ports.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this?
    Thank you

    vas12345 wrote:
Yeah, it's just one drive. I think I figured out what the problem is. The USB drive is very old and cheap, most likely USB 2.0 but the ports on the MacBook Pro are USB 3.0 so there might be a compatibility problem.
In theory that should not be the case since USB3 is supposed to be backwards compatible to USB2.  Perhaps the solution is to copy the data to a new device and trash the old drive.  At least the cost will not be excessive.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro Not detecting my FireWire

    Hello,
I just had an accident a few months ago that caused many of the ports of my MacBook Pro to be crushed, however, i had the ports and logic board replaced so it should be working now. However, when i plugged in my FireWire to import a video i had shot on my Camcorder, the camera detected the FireWire but my Mac did not. I tried rebooting to solve the issue, but for some reason my Mac is not detecting the FireWire at all. The FireWire is an Apple WireFire 800 and the camera it is connected to is a Canon VIXIA HV30. I need to use my FireWire for University Classes and an internship i have. How can i fix this?

This camera is supported. You need a Firewire Cable. For FW400, you need a 4 pin to 6 pin cable. For FW 800 you need 4 pin to 9 pin cable. When going down from 6 pins (or 9) to 4, you lose the pins that provide power. So your camcorder must be plugged in to wall power (not batteries). Make sure your camcorder is in Playback mode.
Open iMovie. If it is not detected automatically in a miinute or two, try clicking on the camera icon at the left of the middle bar.

  • Macbook Pro not detecting USB network interface for iPhone 4S

    Hi all.
I have an iPhone4S and my service provider is Vodafone India. I was able to share my internet 3G connection (Personal Hotspot) via USB with my Macbook Pro until recently. I am running Lion. I am not able to do so anymore for some inexplicable reason. It still works fine with Wifi and Bluetooth, but no Internet via USB. I tried deleting the networkinterfaces.plist as someone suggested but no luck.
Am at my wits end. I am sure its not the Phone and I am sure the USB ports are ok since I can connect via USB stick dongle modems from 2 different service providers. But they are bboth dial up types.
Just the iPhone does nbot seem to work since it is supposed to connect automatically.
    Help please....anybody...
Thanks a ton for any feedback in advance.

  • My Macbook Pro won't connect to my Home's Wi-Fi

Hey guys, I've recently acquired this Macbook Pro. At the beginning everything went well. I could connect without problems to my home's Wi-Fi. Two days ago, I saw something weird on my modem and had to restart it. After this, I've been unable to reconnect back. I've tried by clicking the "Alert: no internet connection" option under the Wi-Fi symbol with an exclamation on it. This problem only occurs with this network as I can connect without trouble to any other Wi-Fi network.
(I'm currently running the Lion OSX)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eugenio

The one you are trying to connect to, is it password protected and are you sure you are entering the correct password?

  • My Macbook Pro cannot be seen on my home network

Recently my MacBook Pro is not visible on my home network.  It connects to the internet OK and is shown as visible in Network Magic but I get a dialoge box stating "There was a problem connecting to the server "192 etc etc"  The share does not exist on the server,  Please check the share name, and then try again."
File Sharing is on.  My MacbookAir connects to the netwrk and the file sharing settings are exactly the same as the Macbook Pro.  Any thoughts?
    Philip

What model MBP do you have and what OSX do you have installed.
    What is a 'THE' switch?

  • My MacBook Pro can't connect to iCloud. Network Error #60

None of my Mac-base applications are connecting to iCloud on my MacBook Pro, while they do just fine on my iMac running on the same OS 10.6.8.

My situation is that my Calendar is not being synced on my MacBook Pro, but it is on my iMac and iPhone. When I enter a date on my MacBook Pro, it doesn't show up on the other two devices. When I update my Calendar on my iMac it does update my iPhone.
I will just get the latest version of the OS. I am sure it will work it self out there. It is time anyways. Just ***** that there have been so many changes to the OS and the way it works that old computers and OS are so quickly trashed these days.

  • Macbook Pro not detecting external display

I can't seem to make this work. I'm using a MiniDP-DVI cable which is plugged into an DVI cable plugged into an external monitor. I know it works because I have tried it on other computers and it has worked on the Macbook (erratically).
I've reset the PRAM several times and it has not fixed the problem. I did it in this order:
    1. Remove adapter from computer
    2. Shutdown
    3. Press Option Command P R until the second chime is heard.
    4. Log on as usual
    5. Reconnect adapter to MBP
This is what the system log states when I plug the adapter in:

I had the exact same behavior and log and I solved the issue by replacing the MiniDP-DVI adapter. I tried the "broken" adapter on another set of laptop+display and it was working there, so that made me think the adapter was ok, when apparently it was not.

  • Macbook pro not detecting my hard drive

I have been using this 500GB WD Hard disk and it has been working properly. However, it is not being detected today when I plugged it in.
I have tried methods like "automatically fixing errors" at PCs and checked it on Disk Utility, unfortunately it is still not working. I have important files in it and what should I do?
    Thanksss x

eww's suggestion may seem a bit rash, but I've found that to be the case also. My WD external's enclosure also fried.
I bought OWC's FW hard drive encloser. You can put in your own drive(s) (I bought Seagate drives from OWC) depending on whether you want a single drive backup, dual or RAID. I bought the OWC Mercury Elite...great enclosure rated top in all my Mac magazines. What's nice about these is, if the drive goes bad you can replace it yourself and not have to get rid of the whole unit (like what happened to my Western Digital FW Ext. drive last time!). OWC's enclosures have Oxford chipsets which are totally Mac friendly. They also work for Windows machines. OWC also backs up their products...no arguing involved.
