  • Macbook Pro not starting without Holding Power Button

    Hello,
my Macbook Pro (bought March 2008) seems to be dead.
When the power button is pressed (and ONLY IF HELD.. cause if I just push it once it powers up and turns off instantly) it starts and does 2 seconds of normal boot (DVD drive check, HD starts to spin along with the fans) then the power just cuts out and you hear the HD off sound. The LED on the front at this moment keeps flashing and then all goes off.
I tried doing a SMC reset and even a PRAM reset already, but no luck. I've read to try an Hardware Test with the Install DvD so I've inserted it but the MacbookPro powers off before even starting it (The Screen never starts )
    What should I do?
    Thanks for your help :-S

  • Why does the internet on my new macbook pro not work when my old macbook's does?

Why does the internet on my new macbook pro not work when my old macbook's does? I'll have to turn the wifi off and back on multiple times to get the internet to continue to work on my Macbook Pro (running mountain lion but did it on lion also) when it runs fine on my old white Macbook (running lion). Is there something I can do to fix it or do I just have to deal with it?

Here is your fix .. I have uploaded my properly calibrated profile get it here :
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YAJL6A9X
And it should go to your user folder/Library/ColorSync/Profiles
if you have one already you can rename either one ..
and then go to system preferences - displays - color to select the profile .
you will get rid of the blue tint while keeping correct color and gamma
This is for the newer 2010 MBP's altho if same display was used might also give good results in the previous models as well . .

  • Why does Satellite Pro A300 not start when the power button is pressed?

Suddenly my new Satellite Pro A300 will not start correctly when the power button is pressed. The situation is this: When I press the power button the Toshiba opening picture (Leading Innovation) appears and disappers quickly. Then there is a black screen for about 30 seconds. Then there is a rectangular frame with the text Microsoft Corporation underneath. And nothing happens however long I wait.
In order to get on with the starting proces I then shut down the computer by pressing down the power button until the computer stops. ("The hard way to shut down")
Now I press the power button shortly to turn on the computer. Then the computer starts normally with the Toshiba opening picture and after a few seconds I am asked to open the computer in safe mode or in normal mode. I now choose to open in normal mode and the computer opens normally and is ready to work.
What shall I do to get a normal start procedure?

When notebook starts normally (after choosing normal mode) shut down your notebook properly using START > Shut down option. Next start should be normal.
When the OS is switched down on irregular way you will be always asked how to start it again (safe or normal mode).
The same happen on my Satellite A300.

  • MacBook Pro 13" unibody mid 2012 power button not working!

My macBook won't start (or shut off) by pressing power button. It does however start if I connect maglock, I've troubleshooted and am all out of ideas.

Is it under Applecare? If so, just take it in and let them fix it for you. The only other thing I can think to try is an SMC reset, though I don't hold much hope for that as a fix. Use the option "for a battery you should not remove yourself"

  • MacBook Pro doesn't respond to power button

My 15-inch MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16GB RAM and running OS 10.9.4,  (just purchased earlier this year) does not respond to the power button correctly anymore. When I press the power button, I used to get a dialog box where I could put it to sleep, restart, or shutdown. Nothing happens anymore. If I hold down the power button, it does respond to that and goes to sleep. And of course the power button works to turn on the computer if the computer is off.
I have reset the PRAM and the power management system.
Any thoughts as to why I can't shut down my computer with the power button?

Wow, that was a fast response. Thank you so much. Before I reset everything though, this is not how it was working. It was putting it to sleep when I held the power button for two seconds. Now, which I did not try holding the power button after I reset everything, just tried pressing it once, I get the dialog box when I hold it for two seconds. The one thing that is still not working though that this article states is that when I press the power button once, it does not put the computer to sleep, it does nothing. But at least I get the dialog box now if I hold it for two seconds. Thanks!

  • HT1338 I have WIndows on my MACbook Pro which opens when I turn on the laptop.  I can't remember what buttons to push to get back to the Mac side.  Can Anyone help me remember that?

I have a Macbook Pro that has Windows loaded.  I use that most often and it opens immediately upon opening the computer.  I can't remember how to get back to the Mac side of the computer and want to begin to use it as well.  Can anyone help me remember the buttons to push ?
    Thank you

Hold down the Option key when starting up, or restarting. You'll be presented with the Startup Manager, which is a simple graphic of the drives you can boot to. Double click the drive which has OS X on it. Once in OS X, go to the System Preferences and click on Startup Disk. Choose the drive you always want the Mac to boot to first.

  • Macbook will not shutdown unless the power button is held

Recently my macbook has been refusing to shutdown when I click shutdown from the apple icon menu. When I press the power button, no menu pops up asking if I want to shutdown my macbook. It only shuts down when I hold the power button. Nothing changes, and its as if the macbook ignored my command (my screen doesn't turn blue, nothing disappears). Has anyone experienced this specifically, and what can I do to fix this? Thanks in advance

    Hey Adam,
First off, Happy Friday! I would go ahead a try a hard reset to resolve this issue. You can find the instructions on how to do this on this page: Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues
If this does not resolve the issue post back with any new details and we can go from there.
    Thanks,
    Sean

  • Macbook Pro not sleeping when lid closed

Since upgrading my late 2011 13-inch Macbook Pro to Yosemite, I've noticed that it does not go to sleep properly when I close the lid. While the screen does turn off, the white LED remains on at full brightness and the fans spin up to maximum speed. When I open the lid again, the fans slow down but the screen doesn't turn back on until I press a key. This suggests it wasn't sleeping at all and the display saver simply activated.
If I use the Apple menu (top left) to enter Sleep mode, wait for it to go to sleep then close the lid, it sleeps properly with the white LED glowing slowly.
I have checked the Energy Saver preferences, and there is no Sharing set up so I doubt that's the problem. Is anyone else having this issue? Any ideas how to fix it?

Similar issue after upgrade w my MBP (early 2011).
Close the screen with apps open... climb into bed... the laptop appears to enter sleep BUT several times thruout the night I hear the optical drive spin up along with the hard drive and screen glow (visible w screen closed as a glow)... then... it goes back to sleep (must detect closed screen).
    Weird.
Did not do so with prior OS installs (not hardware issue... related to Yosie install).

  • MacBook Pro won't respond to power button.

Macbook Pro 13" (late 2011) OSX Mountain Lion
    Hi
This is not my first Macbook, I have another 15" that had a similar problem, and I just fixed it by resetting the SMC. However this 13" is different. I was just using it normally, until the notifaction for low battery popped up, and so I just plugged in my charger, put it to sleep, and went on doing other things. When I came back after 2 hours, I noticed that my Magsafe charger is showing a blinking green light. At that point I try to wake my computer, and it wont wake up. (the sleep led is not on either) Afterwards, I try turning it on, but I had no luck. At that point I try resetting the SMC, but days before this, My shift button was unresponsive, and I took it to apple. I schedule a repair by the end of the week. They told me that nothing else was wrong. I mean, I'm going to take it to apple on saturaday, But I need it for work for 1 last day. I was wondering if there was any quick fix, or if anyone know what is the problem with it.
I also noticed that when I plug in my other magsafe charger, I get a blinking red led instead. Also the battery level led is not responsive as well.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance
    Mat

Have you checked the battery status in System Information>Hardware>Power>Battery Information?  What does it say regarding Condition?
    This is from my MBP:
    Ciao.

  • My Macbook Pro display flickers when using power adapter

I purchased a new power adapter for my Macbook Pro (late 2011 17 inch) from Other World Computing and now the display flickers intermittently when attached to the new power adapter. There is no flickering when not attached to the power adapter or when attached to the old power adapter.
Any ideas on fixing the new power adapter? I would rather fix the problem if it is simple.
    Thanks for the help.
    Roy Patience

It doesn't affect the battery. You can use your MacBook Pro plugged in all the time without damaging the battery. You only have to be sure that you unplug it and run a battery cycle (drain the battery without letting the Mac turn off and charge it fully) at least once a month to keep the battery life.

  • Hp g61 unresponsive, wifi light blinks 3 times when pressing power button

    Hi,
I'm attemping to remove a virus from a freinds g61. I intended to install NOD32 from a USB stick to clean it up before allowing it to connect to my wlan.
On turning it on, Windows firewall reported that PremierOpinion was attempting to use the internet. The machine was away from it's usual wifi network and had no connection to mine.
Before I could tell firewall to not allow it, the machine went into sleep or suspend and became unresponsive.
I powered it down by doing a long press on the power button and that worked fine. But, now it won't power up.
I've done a hard reset - remove battery and power, press and hold power button for 15 seconds, but reconnecting power and battery and pressing power makes the wifi light flash 3 times and nothing else happens.
I note that 3 capslock flashes points to bad memory and I reseated those and tried combinations of different modules in different slots but with no luck.
I'm not finding any references to the wifi light flashing 3 times, which is what I'm seeing here.
Can you help at all? Have I killed my freinds laptop?
    Paul

OK partial solution. The battery was flat. The owner is using a non OEM charger and it's not very good. Coupled with the CPU eating battery because it's flat out running all the virii, the charger can't keep up.
I'm cleaning the thing up now via safe mode. This can be closed. I'll post nack if I need more guidance.

I can receive emails but when I try ti write a new one or reply or forward existing emails, the usual screen does not open. Instead a small window opens in the small task bar at the bottom of my screen in Thunderbird and whilst I can hover over them to see them no amount of clicking will bring them on to the full size to use. I am on Windoes 8.1

Thanks for your quick reply but although it did not solve my problem, I found that other functions were not working this morning and after a good deal of head scratching I found out that it was the remote Microsoft keyboard attached to my laptop which was causing all problems! It was only a few months old but I have now bought another but Advent this time and all is back to normal. Thanks once again. Conway Hall
