Macbook Pro not seeing other Macs on network

I have a network of 7 Macs. Some are connected with ethernet, some connect via Wifi. I have a Verizon router with a wifi transmitter and an Apple Airport Express. Both the router and the Express use the same network name. I have configured the Express to extend the first network. I use WPA security.
I have file sharing and screen sharing enabled on all of the computers.
Today a MacBook Pro (10.6.3) has had trouble seeing any of the other machines on the network. It can access the internet and send email, but it cannot access the server that has its TimeMachine backup drive, nor can I get it to see any of the other computers on the network.
I have run Repair Permissions and re-started. I recently did do the latest OS 10.6 update which updated Java. (Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 2)
What can I do to help this machine see the network?

Yes, every Mac is on the same subnet. This machine is behaving strangely. The inability to connect to other computers went away and now is back. It has always been able to connect to the internet, but it still cannot connect to other Macs on the network.
Would interference between the Verizon router wifi transmitter and an Apple Airport Express be a possible culprit?

  • Not seeing other Macs on network (but the G4 did)?

My new Mac Mini is connected via ethernet to my FIOS router (same connection as my now-dead G4 tower which had OSX10.4.11).
Internet connection on the new Mini is fine.
Dear Daughter number one can print to the printer connected to my Mini with her MacBook on the wireless side of the network.
But I can no longer see either her computer or her sister's Mac, which used to show up on my network on the old G4. Both of them are on the wireless side of the network.
Any ideas on what I'm missing here? I'm going to do some more troubleshooting this evening and wanted to know where to start.

Check on their Mac's System Preferences > Sharing > Services > File Sharing is On.

  • IBook G4 and Airport - does not see other Macs on network

Hi. My iBook G4 (1 gHz, 768 meg, OS 10.4.10) has a networking issue. I can easily connnect online via the Airport card to our Belkin 54g router, to which my G4/733 and G5/2gHz are also connected (hard-wired). As I said, I can connect to the internet with no problem...but cannot see the other computers, nor print to a shared printer! And they cannot see the iBook! when I turn off Airport, and hook up the iBook with a wire, everything works fine, and everyone can see everyone else. This points to some sort of Airport setup thing...any suggestions?

    I don't have tiger, so I don't know how different it is from panther;
so have you turned on the correct sharing in your sys preferences,
have you created a computer to computer network (using airport),
have you tried to connect using the network or _connect to server menu_ choice to one of the other computer that you have a user name and password for?
It seems to take a minute or two for the other computer(s) to show up in the network window, so maybe you just aren't waiting long enough? or maybe it's a tiger difference.
I just checked to see if I could connect myself to another computer here, using airport and a belkin 54g router. both computers are wireless G4 ibooks and I created a network, named it, and selected it from the drop down menu choice on both computers and I can access either one from the other, but I have to have a login name and password to do so. those have to be the same as one that is on the computer you are wanting to access.

  • Macbook pro not seeing my sharp notevision projector . what to do

    help
macbook pro cant see sharp projector. What to look for to correct?

If you have not done so already, back up your data.  If your computer is under warranty, Apple will repair your computer for free.  If you are near to an Apple Store, make a reservation to visit a Genius, and have your computer checked out.

  • I can see other Macs on network, but I can't connect via afp, smb or Bonjour

    Hello.
I have a Mac Pro running 10.6.8, a Macbook Pro running Lion, an Ipad 2nd generation and an Iphone 4. All the devices "see" each other, but I am unable to establish a connection.
For instance: I can see the other mac in the finder, but a connection can't be made neither via clicking or using command + K
I can see my iTunes libraries in the remote app, but it wont connect to the iTunes library. Same with iChat: in the Bonjour network both macs see each other, but no message is delivered.
However, I can connect to the harddrive, that is connected to my airport extreme. Previously I thought my router was the problem, but now I exchanged it with this airport Extreme.
In another thread I read something about adding 10.0.1.* to "Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts and Domains" in the network proxy settings, but this did not help. Although I am not sure if I entered it right.
Any ideas how to resolve this problem?

    Hi,
Please turn off the Windows Firewall in the Control Panel for test:
Control Panel->type firewall in the search box->Windows Firewall->Turn Windows Firewall on or off->Turn off
    Windows Firewall (not recommended)->OK
    Then Make sure all computer
    turn on the network discovery.
Also, apps that are managed from non-domain servers cannot see or control this Windows 7 machine
In addition, make sure the Server, Windows 7 and other comouter in the same network. Otherwise it can't be accessed each other.

  • Why can't my new Macbook Pro not see individual MTS files on the sony cx700 flash drive? How do I get AVCHD MTS files off the camera not using imovie or FCP?

    Hi,
I bought a new MacBook Pro (OS X version 10.8) recently to replace an older version. I work with different Sony cameras (Hard drive and flash drive storage), but when I connect the cameras (Sony Cx560, 700 and XR520) to the Mac it only shows an AVCHD icon. Usually you can see the individual files. We have 3 Macbook Pro's here and on 2 of them it works. Is there a setting or a driver I need to download for this new Mac? The other ones read it without intsalling anything.
    Thanks for any tips.

There are two (and probably more than two) third party apps that will do this.
    1) ClipWrap
    2) Voltaic

  • MBA 13" (Mid 2012) 10.8.2 does not see other Macs

    Hello all,
for some time now I have a strange problem with my 13" MBA (Mid 2012 - latest version) on 10.8.2. THe MBA generally works very well, fast, and stable. My only issue is that I cannot see or connect to other Macs in my home WLAN network (this worked seamlessly under 10.8.1) or elsewhere. The other Macs do not show up in the finder, and neither can I connect with them manually (via "Go to server...").
The only way to establish a connection is via creating a computer to computer network - which works perfectly but, of course, disconnects me from the internet which comes over wifi, so this is not a permanent solution.
Even stranger, there seems to be a problem with ethernet connections (via thunderbolt ethernet adapter), too. This connection work seamlessly with one of my other Macs (running on Lion - 10.7), but does not work with my iMac running on Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
I guess that something's wrong with the sharing routines on my MBA. Therefore I tried to install the 10.8.2 combo update but had to learn that this was not made for the 2012 MBA... :-(
So, what to do? Should I try a reinstall of Mountain Lion?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jan

  • Macbook Pro not seeing my surround sound interface

I use a PreSonus Firebox interface to output surround sound from Logic 8. It worked fine on my previous computer, a standard MacBook. I recently upgraded to a MacBook Pro and it won't show up in Logic or the computer's own System Preferences. I never had a problem with it on the old computer so I'm wondering if there's any trick to get it to show up on this now one.

I see that some people earlier this year had this same problem where there was mentions of chip sets and drivers. It doesn't look like anything really was resolved, but one person said that he fixed his problem by downloading a firmware update from the PreSonus site. So I went there and tried downloading the "FireBox Mixer application and Control Panel (10.3.7 - 10.5+)" but the downloaded file is invalid and won't open. Drag.

I also wanted to add that I get all blue lights on the Firebox itself, never any red lights. So I'm still searching the internet for a solution...

  • MacBook Pro not seeing my MBox Mini 2

I bought a new MacBook pro 2 days ago and I installed my Pro Tools software from my last laptop successfully, however the new MacBook isn't recognising my Mbox Mini 2, any ideas? Thanks

Go to the Avid / Digidesign page for support. Look into the special set-up for Macs and the special drivers that it my need for Macs.

  • New MacBook Pro not connecting to MOST wireless networks

Well I'm another loyal sufferer, 10.5.3 did nothing to solve the problem. After reading a bunch of posts however I think i have a bit of a unique situation..
I'm staying at a condo for the next two weeks without internet, so i poach it from my neighbor, it's fine he said i could. I had a PC and that connected fine, fast too, when i got my mac it worked for a few days then crapped out, gave me the "self-assigned ip address' message of death. I brought my Mac to work and it worked fine on the company's internet wireless (it's an 801.x security) so after work i took it home and it worked for a day. The next morning, same problem.
I took it to starbucks, said it was connected but wouldn't open any pages in firefox and wouldn't connect to messenger. Back home now it says i'm connected, I can get into the router settings and play around with it, nothing has worked thus far. I did a ping test and it's working fine, what's the problem?
For the record i have tried the following:
turning airport on and off then restarting
    Clearing airport preferences
    removing and reinstalling the OS
    clearing keychain
trying every possible advanced option, manually entering IP's etc.
doing the safe boot, restart and normal boot.
I hear switching the router to 'g' only is the way to do it. I'm going to try that tonight because right now I'm just concerned about my internet connection at home, it works fine at work.
Any new insight is greatly appreciated! I'm dyin' without it!

You probably connected but failed to get an IP address. If you have other network devices turn them off, restart the router and see if you can get access to the Internet then. Otherwise click on the network diagnostics button (or which ever appears in Safari's failure) and see if it'll give you clues.

  • Time Machine doesn't see other macs on network

I'm just setting up Time Machine and the "Choose Backup Disk" doesn't show any options. I can see a clean hard drive through Finder, which I've set up on a Leopard G4 just for this purpose, but it doesn't appear. Do I need to set up anything on the G4 hard drive? Any suggestions, please?

Homeplugs as in Powerline? Yes, it can ABSOLUTELY affect the backup. I believe that many powerline protocols are better at one way transfer than bidirectional. Since I had a powerline set lying around, I attempted to see if I could improve on the wireless access. With the powerline adapters, I could not. I ended up reverting back to a direct ethernet connection to the Time Capsule. Can't beat 1000 Base-T.

  • Time capsule only seems to work with my macbook pro, not vista. (wifi)

So I received my TC today and set it up. Everything is working perfectly except the new wifi network I created only works with my macbook pro, not my other laptop that has windows vista installed on it. It only works with vista when I take off the password from the network. When it's on, it says something about the settings being invalid for that particular computer. I think it has something to do with the WPA2 encryption.
    Any suggestions?
