MacBook Pro not turning back on after updating

When I update my software (using system update), the computer updates perfectly. However, when the update is completed, the computer turns itself off, instead of restarting like it used to.
After this, when I hit the power button to turn it back on, the power light comes on, but then it turns itself back off again. I usually have to hold the power button in for about 5-10 seconds, and repeat this a couple of times to actually get it to turn on.
I have also noticed that a file in the recycle bin called "recovered files" is being created after the process.
A while back, I made the huge mistake of hitting the power button in the middle of an update (eeeek!) and I think this may have caused the issue.

IF you DO NOT KNOW your administrative password, then SKIP the following procedure.  It will make things worse.
Otherwise (if you DO KNOW your password) then try...
1)     Apple -> Restart but starting up in Safe mode by holding down left shift key after the chime until the spinning gear.  The gear will spin a long time, as it's clearing your caches.
2)     Running Verify Disk and Repair Permissions with /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app.  If anything red shows up, copy it to a text file of some sort.  Your problem is of the more interesting kind.
3)     Looking at System Preferences -> System -> Accounts -> Login Items to see whether there might be something there that shouldn't be there.
4)     Apple -> Restart to reboot back to ordinary mode.
...That help?

  • My ipod 4th gen will not turn back on after my mom took it for disciplinary reasons

my ipod 4th generation will not turn back on after my mom took it from me for disciplinary reasons. Not grades! I am a 4.0 student. Pleae help!!

    After charging overnight
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.

  • IPhone 6 Blue Screen Crash Now my Phone will not stop crashing: Has Not turned back on after last crash.

I very recently got my new iPhone 6. I got it on new years eve. I'm not sure what version of the OS it is on, but I'm going to assume it is on the latest, 8.1.2. Today has been the only day i have had an issue. Earlier in the day the phone froze and the Wifi was showing to only have one bar. They Phone then shut off and flashed a red screen for about a second. After that, I had no issues for a few hours. Later that night the phone crashed three times. 2 of them showed a blue screen before crashing. The third time the phone would not let me open any apps and then just shut down, and as of right now it has not turned back on. Is there a way to fix this or am I going to have to replace my phone?

I was able to turn it on but when I turned on WiFI the apps would not open and the phone crashed again and turned off.

  • First gen Macbook pro will not turn back on after grey screen of death

Hi, i have a first generation Macbook Pro. As i was browsing the web, my computer all the sudden froze and the "grey screen of death" appeared and shut of my computer. After, it tried to restart, but it wont get past the CD rom  or hard drive noise it makes once you press the power button. I hear the noise fully cycle once, then it restarts the noise and keeps skipping. Once its done, the computer IS on, but the screen is black and I cannot do anything. Please help! Ive never dealt with thins kind of problem and Im sort of a noob with computers. Is the computer fried? It is after all 7 years old, and I use it daily.

After the startup sound (be precise) after the sound press the shift Key until the apple appear.
If that wont work. Try an SMC reset
    Then try a PRAM reset
This procedures are on apple webpage

  • Why does macbook pro not come back after closing shortly

This has become really annoying. If I close my macbook pro (13 inch from this year...but not the retina) and then decide to open it back up without waiting long enough (maybe just setting it down and then picking it back up and opening it), it becomes a brick until I do a hard reset. Sometimes, if I open and close it over and over again, sometimes it will come back. My 2006ish mbpro never did that, so this is a big step back in my opinion, though, I don't know if it is OS or hardware.
Anyone figure out a way to keep this from happening?

Your MBP should, as I'm sure you know, just go to sleep when the top is closed and reawaken immediately when you open the top. This is obviously not happening.
Which version of OS X are you running on your 2012 13" MBP? I would make sure that you've updated the system with the latest upgrades and, perhaps, run the Apple Hardware Test to make certain that it's not a hardware problem.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Macbook Pro not turning on after chime

Hey all, my 2010 Macbook Pro running on OS X 10.9.3 is having issues turning on.  When I boot it up it makes the chime like normal and the grey screen appears with the apple logo.  A couple of seconds later the screen just goes black and it shuts down.  Any ideas on how to fix this?  I really don't want to make the journey to my closest apple store just to find out it was really simple to fix.

    Hello there, IJKProductions.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great, practical and in-depth steps for troubleshooting the issue you're describing with your MacBook Pro during startup:

  • Macbook pro not turning on after SMC reset. I have the following problem. Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011does not sleep when closing the screen. smc due loud fan and an X on battery symbol

Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011 dos not sleep when closing the screen cover. Today I Turner my laptop in. However the fan was working loudly and stayed loud. After Start I noticed an X on Battery symbol. Clicking on it, it showed 'no battery.' I found out that a potential solution for this problem was SMC reset. I also noticed that the leds on magsafe was not lightning. Despite this I tried to execute the smc reset as described on apple support site. Switching off, plugin the magsafe connector, pushed the buttons shift + alt+ ctrl + power. Then i pushed the power button, but my mbp is not turning on. I pushed several times on the power button but nothing works. The magsafe is also dark meaning the leds not lightning. Can anyone here help me on this ?

Problem solved by my own. But do not how :) magsafe again working and the laptop tooo

  • AirPort in MacBook Pro not turning on!

So recently i had many a problem with my built in airport. here's the story...
I have a MackBook Pro and ive been hearing many problems such as mine but nothing as specific. My airport has for some time now not been able to connect to any device nor "internet share" to anything as well. I use to be able to send files through it very quickly but now as soon as i turn it on it looks and looks for a port. ive been trying to connect to my brothers macbook and my friends macbook pro. everytime i get about 2 seconds connected then it drops off and never can get back on unless i turn off airport then back on. and for what i can tell i cant connect to any wifi anymore for any amount of time longer than that. my school also has a new wifi setup and my computer has done the same with that.
now with sharing internet my internet has the same symptoms but with the device. the ipod touch connects to it for a few seconds and then BAM its off.
Like Ive said, Ive tried many cures- I reset the .plist for airport, login items, PRAM reset, different setting configurations... the only luck i hear is that Apple may have an update fix for it but who knows when!
after that whole mess i tried to do a reinstall and archive my stuff i have on here.
as soon as i got back to my desctop i tried turning it on and nothing would happen. i thought maybe its because my software updates needed to be reinstalled. did that. same thing wont turn on!
when i go into diagnostics for the airport it says...
    AirPort
    failed
    AirPort Settings
    failed
    Network Settings
    failed
    this is my ruin!
If you can help me out at all it would be SUPERB because its killing me.

Diagnostic testing is free at Apple store. But you have to pay for the repair.
    Did you try resetting SMC?

  • Macbook Pro boots to Darwin prompt after update

I updated my Macbook Pro using Auto Update this morning, and now I can only boot to a Darwin prompt. The computer would boot, go to the starting OS X screen, then straight to the prompt. If I exited the prompt, I would be taken to a user login screen (which would revert back to the prompt after an attempted login)
I checked the system log and it showed that SecurityAgent was crashing.
So, per the advice in this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1545778#1545778
I renamed the NetInfo Database, and reran the initial setup using the proper account short name.
However, now the computer goes to the gray timer circle before straight to the prompt, no Starting OS X screen.
The system log now shows the following:
loginwindow[66]: Login Window Started Security Agent
    loginwindow[66]: AuthorizationRef doesn't have a username (<LoginAuthRefMgr: 0x336150>).\n
launchd: onoption repeating too quickly on port /dev/console, sleeping
I thought flushing the NetInfo Database would help, but apparently not.
I would appreciate any help, and thanks!

I am having the exact same issue!!!! The problem started as soon as I updated to 10.5.4. I sent my computer off to Apple's Depot to be fixed. The 6 day turn around really slowed me down. After my MacBook Pro was returned I had a note from Service that my Logic Board was replaced and my 3rd Party RAM was not 'Apple Friendly.' The RAM is fine and in Perfect Working Condition. I am assuming that after the Apple Techs got to my RAM they did not proceed to replace my Graphics Card or the Inverter Board (the small cable that sends power to the monitor). I took my MacBook Pro out of the box, re-inserted my 3rd-Party RAM and the computer worked fine for 3 weeks. That's until Last Night I had a FireWire Drive Mounting issue and had to Hard Re-Start my system it was then that the Black Screen Issue started again. Again, your notes are EXACTLY the same issue I am now having! I have called Apple Support and they will now take my computer to service with 'White Glove Treatment.'
After reading your post I am convinced that this is a software Bug. Apple please update. As of now I cannot even startup my computer to check for updates! Also, I cannot afford to be without my system for another week!!

  • Macbook Pro not turning on fully

This just started happening today. I turned on my macbook, the usual happened...the blue screen, the apple logo, and then the circle appeared to show that it is loading. Well, after some seconds the circle stops moving and I guess the computer basically freezes. Therefore, my computer will not turn on fully. I've shut it off and tried countless times. I took the battery out and put it back in and tried again. Still nothing...
I don't know the OS, because I can't remember and that information is stored in the computer. All I know is I got this macbook pro in 2007. If anyone can please help I would appreciate it. I have no idea what to do and couldn't find a number to call or anything.

I did the safe boot and it worked! Thanks! But now I'm scared to shut it down again. Does this fully fix the problem or could it happen again?

  • Help! MacBook Pro not turning on...

Last night I left my macbook pro on (not in sleep mode) I set for the display to turn off at after about 1 hour 30 min. This morning (8/30/2010)when I went to use it the display wouldn't turn on. I had to restart. When I went to turn it on I got 3 loud beeps and a blinking light... What should I do?

Remove and then reinsert your RAM modules, making sure they are firmly seated in their slots.
If you are in the habit of picking your MBP up one-handed, break the habit. Pick it up only with two hands on opposite sides. Picking it up one-handed unavoidably flexes the chassis and can unseat your RAM, as well as possibly bending the case irreparably.
