Macbook Pro not turning on, Power button unresponsive

Now, Lets me explain the situation. Our High School issued Macbook Pros as part of some kind of project to boost learning standards, And they let us keep them over the holidays. My friend contacted me an hour ago telling me his was not turning on, We tried resetting the SMC but to no avail. He says that when the chargers plugged in he can only faintly see the little green light, Any help in this matter would be great. If you guys need any more info on the problem, post the question and ill get an answer from my friend.
Thankyou for your time.

OK, this may sound stupid, but bear with me here, because I'm talking from experience: is your friend sure he's connected the power cord to the power adapter socket on his Mac, and not the adjoining USB port...? Happened to me once, and sure enough, the green light did show, but faintly.

  • Macbook Pro 13'' Early 2011 Power Button not responding properly after spilled drink.

    Hi Everyone
I've spilled beer on my old macbook last december. I've reassembled pretty much the whole mac, cleaned the motherboard with Servisol (isopropyl alcohol) and applied new thermal compound. The mac is working (if turned on from the motherboard, however the power button doesn't work properly. If pressed several times, sometimes it either changes the brightness of the screen or takes you to the widgets.
The keyboard was disassembled and cleaned and everything else apart from left shift and power button appears to be working on the keyboard. The keyboard was disassembled soon after the spillage, which was few months ago.
As it was few months ago when I cleaned the keyboard, I''ve forgot whether the power button is a part of the keyboard or an individual module. Could anyone give me some advice on that? Any other suggestions regards to the power button?
Another problem I've encountered recently is lost administrator account (after an attempt to turn the mac on). I can only access the guest account, my main account doesn't even appear on the launch. I can still see the administrator's files, but can't access them as they're locked. Is there a way to get back the account or access the files from the computer?
    Many Thanks. Damian

    Hi M,
There are other threads here with similar issues. I do not know if a "common" fix has been found. Try an SMC Reset:

If no luck there, your Mac has a one year hardware warranty and I would contact AppleCare.

  • MacBook Pro Not Turning On / Green Light

    Hi,
I have a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro 13", which has been my trusty machine for the past five years. It's been a fantastic machine.
Recently, it began losing the time, and shutting off on it's own. Yesterday, it simply gave up, shut off, and that was the last time I was able to turn it on. Since that, I've been unable to turn it on.
When pressing the power button, the charger light goes green (it was previously orange). The battery indicator light shows as charging.
Has anybody any ideas as to how I could fix it? Missing my Mac!
    Many thanks,
    George

  • Macbook pro not turning on, not charging

Its a 13 inch macbook pro. Was working fine till about last night.
Today morning, it didn't turn on.
I plugged it to the charger - the indicator had a faint green light, dimmer than usual, that never turned orange.
Even the battery indicator on the side is not showing anything. Its like the laptop is totally dead.
I don't think its a problem with the charger because as far as I remember , it had about 70% charge last night. but today, its just not turning on!!
My one year warranty got over about 10 days ago, so yes, I am panicking because this looks like a serious problem.
    Any help?

If the SMC reset as linked above doesn't work for you, try the following...
Make sure power adapter is removed.
Remove the bottom cover of the MacBook Pro (take note where the three long screws go).
Locate the power connector cable for the 'non-removable' battery (next to the memory modules).
Preferably using a small flat tool such as a small flat screwdriver or such, carefully pry the connector upwards by its edges until it comes off.
After a brief pause, reconnect the battery connector. This may cause the system to start up and fans etc. to activate.
Check to see if the screen is on and indicating startup and also press battery indicator button on the side to verify that the indicators light up.
    * If the system starts up normally, you can shut it down, replace the bottom cover, attach and plug in power adapter, verify the charge indicator lights up and perform the SMC RESET as linked In the above post for models with battery you cannot remove yourself and as I describe below.
    * If the screen has not come on during the 'startup activity' then hold down the power button to force shutdown.  Replace bottom cover, attach power adapter and verIfy charge IndIcator lIghts up, THEN perform the SMC RESET (Hold down left side SHIFT-CONTROL-OPTION keys whilst simultaneously pressing Power button for a few seconds, then release them together). Then press power button again to start the system and check normal operation. You MAY have to reset date and time.
Hope this helps and saves a trip to the Genius Bar.

  • Macbook Pro not turning on... dead?

Hi my macbook pro stopped working. It is not turning on.
    This is what happens:
I press the power button. I hear the cd drive start up. I let go the power button. Within less than a second, I hear the hard drive power down and my laptop does not go on. Nothing comes up on the screen, not even the gray startup screen.
If I try to hold it longer, it does the same thing.
The only different scenario is when I hold down the power button until it starts up and shuts down, which does not do anything either.
    Please help me.
I have done everything on this page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1365) except carry it to apple. I have even tried booting it from the restore DVD but nothing happened and it is now stuck in the laptop.

Well, this is all rather unsatisfactory. Yesterday I had a very polite and understanding member of the support-team on the phone, and after relaying the story and the symptoms of my dead MBP, and after checking with some superiours in the backgrond, he gave me a case-number and fixed me a date with the local apple store's genius bar, saying that the symptoms match what they have in their database regarding the graphic-chip failure and that my case will be dealt with at the genius bar - leaving me with the impression that the MBPs failure will be covered by the prolonged warranty.
so guess what? the genius at the bar did exactly the same what the AASP tech did on friday (traying to get a errorcode out of the dead machine), and he, too, stated that "if the book is that dead, it cannot be the graphic chip, sorry" - a statement that, in the words of the support-member "is not acceptable" - as long as it is not muttered by an official apple genius, it seems. He went to get a second opinion by a fellow genius who said, after looking at the data filed along with the case-number: "well, you're nearly three year's out of the warranty..." (which is wrong, I'm 614 days out of the warranty, which was the first thing I got told upon my second phone call with the service today) - so how dare I to complain about a premature death of a top-of-the-line product?!
Fuming. Not only do I have the dead MBP, but I had been sent on a fruitless journey by yesterday's support member.
I have always told everybody who would listen how reliable and stress-free apple's products are, and considering that this is the first really broken peace of hardware I encountered in the course of 17 years I will continue to do so, but this story is really really bad.

  • Macbook Pro not turning on and having no responses

    Hi there.
I recently bought a macbook pro, I had been having trouble with my internet connections then when I finally have it sorted out the computer just turned off out of the blue.   I've tried researching and using the troubleshooting methods i've found online but they dont seem to be having any response.  I have the charger plugged in and its flickering a light green.  I'm really unsure of what to do, If anyone has any idea of what could be wrong with it please let me know or know of another way to troubleshoot it?

If the Mac gives no response at all and the pilot light on the charger cable is flickering, there might not be enough power in the battery and the charger not getting any across. What do the battery charge indicator lights show? See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3205
If there's an issue with the battery and/or the charger, you will have to take the Mac to an Apple Store or Service Provider for further diagnosis and resolution.

  • MacBook Pro Not turning on, loud fan

My friends 13in MacBook Pro won't turn on. The light on the bottom near the remote reciever is on and there is a very loud fan noise.

If the light is on and the fan is running then the system is on, even though you can't see anythinig on the screen.
Press and hold down the power button for 5-10 seconds to shut the system down. Once that light goes off and the fans stop spinning try to start it again by just pressing the power button once. If you get the startup chime and something on the screen then it might be ok and it was just hunge. If there is nothing on the screen and it doesn't give the startup chime thenn the system needs to be taken to apple to be looked at and diagnosed as to the problems with it.

  • MacBook Pro Not Turning On Issues.

Bought a 13" MacBook Pro at the beginning of September and everything has been fine until today.  I closed the lid (putting it to sleep), before trying to turn it on around 2 and a half hours later, getting no response.  I thought it was the battery that had run down, but when I plugged in the power cord the led was changing from a dull green and yellow.  The battery LED indicator is not showing any LED's when pressed.
I'm taking it into my local Apple Store tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone could give me a heads-up before then?
    Cheers.

  • HT3964 MacBook Pro not turning on

My MacBook Pro is not turning on, It turns on to white screen with apple logo and loading bar below it doesn't do nothing after. I bought this computer dec 2011 and hardly used it since.  Last time used it 2 months ago and it was working fine.

Is the machine fully charged up?
Do a #1 SMC Reset and connect the power to a line in the walls that doesn't have a lot of other outlets and other things plugged into it so your getting the maximum power possible overnight.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
It appears your machine is booting, the white screen and spinning thingy is what occurs if OS X can't boot up, the gray progress bar is what occurs at boot is the fsck drive check and if it stops and doesn't continue means it can't fix the problem with the drive.
It might ran out of power, why I say to charge it up fully and do the SMC reset which will fix the setting if the battery really isn't charged up, but the machine thinks it is.
White screen and spinny, gray bar that stops, could be something wrong with the file structure on the drive.
Run through this list of fixes, including doing a Hardware Check and Repair Disk in Disk Utility, look for the SMART status.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
If you can't get it to work despite methodically working through  those repair options, then scheduale a appointment with Apple.

  • AirPort in MacBook Pro not turning on!

So recently i had many a problem with my built in airport. here's the story...
I have a MackBook Pro and ive been hearing many problems such as mine but nothing as specific. My airport has for some time now not been able to connect to any device nor "internet share" to anything as well. I use to be able to send files through it very quickly but now as soon as i turn it on it looks and looks for a port. ive been trying to connect to my brothers macbook and my friends macbook pro. everytime i get about 2 seconds connected then it drops off and never can get back on unless i turn off airport then back on. and for what i can tell i cant connect to any wifi anymore for any amount of time longer than that. my school also has a new wifi setup and my computer has done the same with that.
now with sharing internet my internet has the same symptoms but with the device. the ipod touch connects to it for a few seconds and then BAM its off.
Like Ive said, Ive tried many cures- I reset the .plist for airport, login items, PRAM reset, different setting configurations... the only luck i hear is that Apple may have an update fix for it but who knows when!
after that whole mess i tried to do a reinstall and archive my stuff i have on here.
as soon as i got back to my desctop i tried turning it on and nothing would happen. i thought maybe its because my software updates needed to be reinstalled. did that. same thing wont turn on!
when i go into diagnostics for the airport it says...
    AirPort
    failed
    AirPort Settings
    failed
    Network Settings
    failed
    this is my ruin!
If you can help me out at all it would be SUPERB because its killing me.

  • Help! MacBook Pro not turning on...

Last night I left my macbook pro on (not in sleep mode) I set for the display to turn off at after about 1 hour 30 min. This morning (8/30/2010)when I went to use it the display wouldn't turn on. I had to restart. When I went to turn it on I got 3 loud beeps and a blinking light... What should I do?

Remove and then reinsert your RAM modules, making sure they are firmly seated in their slots.
If you are in the habit of picking your MBP up one-handed, break the habit. Pick it up only with two hands on opposite sides. Picking it up one-handed unavoidably flexes the chassis and can unseat your RAM, as well as possibly bending the case irreparably.

  • Macbook Pro not turning on fully

This just started happening today. I turned on my macbook, the usual happened...the blue screen, the apple logo, and then the circle appeared to show that it is loading. Well, after some seconds the circle stops moving and I guess the computer basically freezes. Therefore, my computer will not turn on fully. I've shut it off and tried countless times. I took the battery out and put it back in and tried again. Still nothing...
I don't know the OS, because I can't remember and that information is stored in the computer. All I know is I got this macbook pro in 2007. If anyone can please help I would appreciate it. I have no idea what to do and couldn't find a number to call or anything.

I did the safe boot and it worked! Thanks! But now I'm scared to shut it down again. Does this fully fix the problem or could it happen again?

  • Macbook pro not turning on after SMC reset. I have the following problem. Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011does not sleep when closing the screen. smc due loud fan and an X on battery symbol

Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011 dos not sleep when closing the screen cover. Today I Turner my laptop in. However the fan was working loudly and stayed loud. After Start I noticed an X on Battery symbol. Clicking on it, it showed 'no battery.' I found out that a potential solution for this problem was SMC reset. I also noticed that the leds on magsafe was not lightning. Despite this I tried to execute the smc reset as described on apple support site. Switching off, plugin the magsafe connector, pushed the buttons shift + alt+ ctrl + power. Then i pushed the power button, but my mbp is not turning on. I pushed several times on the power button but nothing works. The magsafe is also dark meaning the leds not lightning. Can anyone here help me on this ?

Problem solved by my own. But do not how :) magsafe again working and the laptop tooo
