Macbook Pro Nvidia 9600-Does the CUDA work?
Hi-
I have been reading about Nvidia cards and how CUDA is supposed to speed up rendering...but I have no idea how I would turn it on. Would I need a special software to turn this on or a more modern video card. I am editing with Final Cut 6 and Premiere Pro CS4.
And, you wouldn't turn CUDA on or off anyway. The software & OS do that if they were programmed to enable it. Most of the current nVidia GPUs support CUDA including the 9400m & 9600m GT in the recent MBP's.

Macbook pro nvidia 9600 video out limited on levels of black
I have compared the picture quality of my 2008 macbook pro (nvidia 9600gt) with my windows desktop (nvidia 8600GT) using the same monitor (Cinema HD 30"), notebook being connected via mini display port to dual-link DVI adapter, desktop via standard DVI cable.
Macbook picture comes inferior in display of dark shades, to the point that I have several photos taken with Nikon DSLRs I use, where in Windows I am able to see large parts of the image (shade area), and in Macbook they are completely blacked out.
I must say that monitor is properly calibrated for both computers using x-rite colormunki spectrophotometer.
The online test at www.lagom.nl (with pages displaying various black levels nearing to complete 255 black) - also justifies my observation that macbook video just cuts the dark grey shades and makes them black, whereas windows video displays more of the dynamic range.
I have also looked at my iMac computer (2.8 Ghz, 24", with ati video card) and it seems to display a similar limitation.
That presents a serious handicap to photographers like me using macbook pro computers.
Does anyone have a clue to the issue? Can anyone test their picture using that page at lagom,
and report here as to what level of dark grey is still decernible of their monitor? (page is http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php or use any other similar test)I must make an important clarification - I used Adobe Lightroom 2.3 for viewing the photos, and observed the black levels cutting effect there. same photo opened in Photoshop cs4 displays perfectly visible levels of dark grey. So I guess this is not a hardware issue related to nvidia chip.
Apple preview (available by pressing space bar on a selected photo-file) does show black level clipping just like Lightroom. -
I'm saving up to buy After Effects CS6 and I wanted to make sure the program will work on my Macbook Pro. I have the 15 inch screen. If that version doesn't work is there another version that will work with it?
Yes, After Effects CS6 will work on a MacBook Pro.
I see in your sig that it says that you're still using Mac OS X v10.5.1. Really? Because that would be a problem. After Effects CS6 requires v10.6.8 or higher of Mac OS X. -

IOU is operating system for iPhone, iPad not MBP. Is Pages the only issue you are having? What version of Pages are you using? Post in the Pages forum where those experts are. -
i have reset my macbook pro to factory reset the screen is now asking me to put in my details, do i have too as if i am showing it to someone they need to be able to see it working but does that not mean that my name will be on it. please help
Use a alias, but you might have to use a zip code that matches the location used.
Also if you click the right button there is a way to bypass the registration, like register later or something, Apple has it hidden. Also to bypass the internet connection to send the registration off.
Never place your name on a Mac or PC, it's spread throughout the entire machine, in emails, on the network in plain sight etc. -
Hi! I'm using a Macbook Pro, and my photo booth stopped working! I just updated my software yesterday, but it still doesn't work!! The green light does go on though, any suggestions on how to make it work?

I found an answer that worked for me. I am using an iMac.
(1) Sign out of the iTunes store
(2) Open a NEW account with a new Apple ID
(3) Go through the sign up process and then go to the ACCOUNT INFORMATION page
(4) Go to RECOMENDATIONS & PING POSTING
(5) Turn on Genius there
Once the Genius updates, you can sign out and then sign in under your original Apple ID or the e-mail address you use for the iTunes store. All my store credit was there and now Genius worked.
Rather odd but I actually like the Genius at times except when it can't deal with some of my lesser known bands that I listen to.

My Macbook Pro is frozen on the login page with a white screen and only my login picture. How do I fix this? I can't turn it off and I closed it and let it charge but it's still not working. It's only 3 months old and was working perfectly fine 30min before this happened.

I would start your troubleshooting with the article below for issues of not being able to log in to your Mac. Start with booting up in to Safe Boot as well as resetting PRAM on your Mac. If that does not work, then verify the hard drive with booting to the Recover HD and go to Disk Utility to verify it.

Theres almost a trick to it for first time users, goto SETTINGS...General......Cellular (if Verizon) ....Personal Hotspot, turn it on.....turn on wifi on your Mac, select your Iphone. Enter password.
If you take too long doing it, youll need turn turn off and on real quick the "personal hotspot" slider on the Phone.......then go quick again thur the Mac. -
I bought in december of 2008 a 2.4ghz macbook pro and I think the gpu is starting to fail. Can I still be covered for a change because of the faulty nvidia gpu?

Hello. I recently updated numbers on my macbook pro. I like the auto completion feature (proposing te word as I type). With this new update, I cannot see this feature and it doesn't work automatically. Can I have any help on this issue ?
This is really unfortunate. I'm sorry that nothing works. I was going to mention holding down the power button and doing a force shutdown but you already did that. You might need to take it into the Apple store. I don't know if booting into safe mode would help. You would have to turn off the machine again, hit the start button and hold down the shift key after you hear the tone, but normally you would let go of the shift key when you see the apple logo and spining wheel. Maybe by holding down the shift key after you here the tone will cause the screen to come back on? The other option is to start up from the 'install disk' if your machine came with one. You would insert the disk, then shut down the computer, and hold down the C key right after hitting the start button.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -

Let it dry, it will come around. You just chilled it a little most likely, unless the cloth was very damp....
Next time use rubbing alcohol.
It removes the oils and grease and dries fast too.
So your have appy to the cloth, wipe, flip the cloth and wipe up the dirt and grime, then start the process with a new clean section of cloth, else you place the grime back on. -
I have a mid 2009 Macbook Pro and i know the Mini-display port does not support audio out but does it support HDMI out? or do i have to buy a Mini-display to DVI and then a DVI to HDMI adapters?
Run MDP to HDMI for picture. Use a cable like this to run sound from your audio out on your Mac to your TV's audio in. That's about all you can do.
