Macbook Pro Overheating and Lagging

Hi.
About 2 weeks ago my macbook pro began lagging a lot. At first I thought it was my flash player, since it was lagging videos and flash sites on every browser, but then I realized it was lagging on programs and applications as well, such as Skype and Photobooth.
I called apple support twice, and after helping me with some memory issues and some update issues, the lag still persisted.
I visited an apple store today and brought my laptop to the genius bar. It wasn't laggy at the genius bar, although maybe it simply hadn't overheated in time (I didn't think it was overheating until after I returned home).
They formated my laptop and I thought that would fix the problem but it didn't!
It lags like crazy when I run a website or photobooth or anything, and I noticed the laptop gets REALLY hot really fast. I'm not sure if it's overheating for sure, but I would like some more suggestions before I take a second trip to the apple store (which is far from me).
Thanks!

for lagging problem, you can solve at Disk Utilitty ( repair disk permittion)
for averheating, you can try to install Gfxstatus( googling, its freeware). Use this aplication to monitoring overheating issue,we can control booth of fan.to minimize heat.
good luck.

  • 2010 MacBook pro overheated and won't turn on...

My summer 2010 MacBook pro now running osx 10.7.3 with latest MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.6 suddenly started to heat up and will now not turn on.  I did notice the display flickering in recent days.  Any ideas?

Which model MBP do you have?

  • Original Macbook Pro overheating and rebooting

I have one of the early Macbook Pro's with the ATI Radeon X1600 graphics cards. When I'm using OSX and and either looking around online or doing nothing, the computer stays at 55-60' C when the fans are at 6000 rpm's which I would have thought is rather high considering the lack of CPU based activity. When I switch over to XP on Bootcamp however, things get so much worse. At full fan speed(which I've set the fans to be at constantly) the CPU never drops below 72'C and when I try to play Morrowind(which I bought yesterday) the bloody thing gets so hot underneath that I can't actually touch it and the graphics in the game start artifacting really badly before it eventually crashes and the computer shuts down. Considering the game is seven years old, and the fact that it played perfectly back when the computer was new, what could be wrong with my Macbook? Is it just getting too old? Well, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Have you applied the latest firmware update for the MacBook Pro?
Have you tried using the MacBook Pro on a surface that dissipates heat better? Metal and air pocket based thermal pads are better than a flat surface table or fabric.

I have a macbook pro mc700, And the scrolling lags or doesn't respond at times. What can I do to fix it?

There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory and virtual memory.
That can happen for two reasons:
You have a long-running process with a memory leak (i.e., a bug), or
You don't have enough memory installed for your usage pattern.
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
In the Activity Monitor application, select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the  Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The process named "Safari Web Content" renders web pages for Safari and other applications. It uses a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider it a prime suspect.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

  • Macbook Pro Thunderbolt and HDMI displays switch on wake up

    Hi there,
Currently using a late 2013 15" Macbook Pro., latest version of Mavericks. I have one display hooked up through Thunderbolt->DVI, with a second set up through HDMI->DVI.
There seems to be an issue where on waking the monitors up from sleep mode (about 10 minutes inactivity time) the displays will turn on, immediately go black (inlcuding the Macbook Pro screen), and then switch such that all windows on one are now on the other.
I can't really repliate this, as it seems to just happen randomly. All I can say in my detective work, is that the HDMI->DVI hooked-up monitor tends to take a little more time to turn on after sleep, whereas the Thunderbolt->DVI monitor comes up immediately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I've noticed that the HDMI connection seems to lag the Thunderbolt on wake as well. I haven't had the switching issue, though. I use my Thunderbolt display as the primary (menu bar in the preferences) - maybe try doing that if you're using your HDMI out as the primary.
You can always try resetting the SMC and PRAM as well.

  • 2011 Macbook Pro Overheating *VIDEO*

Well, I must say that I am really disappointed with the current 2011 Macbook pro lineup. This was my first Mac, I must say that I was really excited to finally own one. As I started using it, I noticed how hot the laptop was getting and how loud the fans were. While I was typing a simple E-mail, my palms were getting really hot and was a very uncomfortable feeling. I've been around friends who have own previous models and all have been very quiet and also fairly cool.
I started to get curious so I started reading the temps and it was a staggering 90c degrees! This was just while web browsing, having iTunes loaded and just doing normal day to day stuff. I immediately went online and did a Google search for "2011 Macbook Pro Overheating". I come to find out that it is a common problem. What was most disappointing to me was the fact that Apple is fully aware of this problem and has disabled Turbo Boost on the 13.3" Core i7 while running Bootcamp. So technically speaking, your better off buying the Core i5 model as it will run faster.
I decided to return the laptop, I feel it's deceiving to buy a product that really doesn't perform at it's full potential (It's like buying a Ferrari and only be able to go 60MPH). My batter life was also terrible, I was lucky if I got 3.5 hours under normal web browsing. I think this had a lot to do with the fact that the fan kept spinning at full speed every 2 minutes.
I hope this post doesn't come off as a flame, but rather constructive criticism on Apple's design to improve their products. I truly believe that Apple needs to redesign their Macbook Pro lineup to accept modern processors that run a lot hotter compared to when the Macbook Pro was first introduced. The fact that it has no ventilation in the bottom like every computer out there poses a huge problem with newer processors. I understand the aesthetics portion of the design, but I would much rather have a few small vent holes to keep the processor running cool and maintain a longer life for the hardware.
Lastly, before anyone say's that I got a "defective" one I want to say that this was my 2nd 2011 Macbook Pro as the first one was returned due to the same problems. Here is my video of my experience - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_azMBStJnY

I am having a similar problem. Bought MacBook Pro 17" 16 months ago and after about 9 months, routinely, daily, but no particular time I got a black screen suddenly.
(This is running Windows 7 all the time.)
So daily it has been doing this except for a 3 week visit to Europe ... weird.  Yet while in Europe no change in usage. Software or hardware. Except that in US I have it plugged often into a bigger monitor. And sometimes have lid closed but not for the past month while being back.
Return to US and within 2 weeks, suddenly black screen of death anytime during the day, keyboard in use or not.
Called Apple finally yesterday ... they need to know if it happens under Apple IOS.  No idea.  So for 1 1/2 days ran Apple and did nothing!  No black screen.
But what I have noticed is that when it does go black the bodyis HOT!!!  Especially between the screen hinge and F keys to the left.
Today I did two more things ... installed gotomypc to see if when it goes black if the laptop is functional, just dead video.  I will try to remote in when it goes "dead".
Also I put a load of coins on the laptop where it gets hot to absorb the heat and do they ever!
One thing ... the first time I ever saw this black screen symptom it RECOVERD after 3-4 seconds and gave off an error message like
“Display driver stopped responding and has recovered” error.
So based on researching this, it sounds like the video card needs replacing OR a driver update OR a bath in cold water?

  • Macbook pro apple tv lag

Has a solution been found for the lag between apple tv and macbook pro?
The lag is slight but slows down then speeds up and feels like I'm having an epileptic fit in slow motion!
I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) and using OS Yosemite V 10.10.1 and just bought the apple tv 2 weeks ago- but can't see where I find what gen or whatever it is.
I'm using Google Chrome and have tried Saffari but the lag is still there. The lag does not occur when using Ipad.
    What's the latest apple?

  • MacBook Pro overheating after security update

Why is my Macbook Pro overheating?

None of your images are displayed.  If you could try again it might be of help.
118° f is satisfactory and not to be alarmed at.  Aperture certainly can increase the temperature.  I surmise that your MBP is a pre-unibody model.
Here are the list of videos from the OWC web site.  Choose the one for the model that you have, 15" or 17" and look at one at replacing the HDD to understand how to take the top cover off.  Having an older MBP, you may have dirt and dust inside that should be cleaned out and this is the only way of accessing it. Contaminants can be a cause of heat buildup.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
You will need a #00 Phillips and a #6 Torx drivers for this.  I suggest doing this on a clear table with a towel underneath.  That way you can slide the MBP easily around and if you drop one of the screws, they will not bounce far.  Sequence is important and taking off the top cover should be done with care so that the ribbon cable is not damaged.

Does your external hard drive have it's own power supply?  It should.
Is your external hard drive formatted with the NTFS file system?  It won't work.
It needs to be formatted either with Mac OS Extended or FAT32.
(There are drivers available to add NTFS support to OS X but their quality is unknown, especially the "free" ones.)

Can I purchase Mountain Lion and make a flash drive bootable? I do not want to install it on my Macbook Pro. I have Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro now, and due to my hard drive needing repair, I need to boot off of another source, like my flash drive. I am in Paris and my Snow Leopard DVD is in Texas.

Mac OS X has a built-in disk diagnostic and repair program called fsck or file system consistency check. Here’s how to verify and repair your startup disk with fsck.  As soon as you hear the startup tone, press and hold Command-S on the keyboard. Keep holding down those keys until you see a black screen with white lettering. This is called “booting into Single User Mode.”  As the Mac boots in this mode, the screen reports each step of the process. The line should end in root#.  Right after the root# prompt, enter the following: /sbin/fsck -fy
If repairing the disk in single user mode fails, it means one of two things. Either your hard drive itself is failing (a hardware failure), or the directory damage on your hard drive is beyond the capability of the built-in repair procedures in OS X.

My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?
I have a two and half year mac book pro... I've had some issues with the screen looking scrambled when I quit certain applications, but now it's turned into something worse.  I'll be working on my computer and the thing will freeze.  When I force restart, the first screen, the apple logo, will be a blue tint and won't boot up normally.  Then I try safe mood and it will then boot just fine.  But there are blue stripes on my screen.  The screen alternates from a blue tint to normal and if the computer freezes again the screen will become completely blue with black stripes.  I haven't tried reinstalling my software because I don't have the startup discs that came with my computer.  If I was sure that would fix it I would purchase them, but if it's a hardware issue I'm afraid that I'm screwed.  I've been able to successfully get the blue off my screen by putting it to sleep and then waking it up, but that's not working well anymore either.
Does anyone else have experience with this?  Is it the firmware or what?  I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011 and I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Please help... Thanks!

I just experienced this exact same issue with my early 2011 15" macbook pro. Since like a month after purchasing it I had issues with the screen randomly going dark on me. I sent it in for repair inder waranty they replaced the gpu and logic board but I continued to have the same issues with the screen randomly going black sometimes I would need to reboot it in order to get the screen to go back on but it happened so infrequently and I used the computer for school so disnt find the time to resend it in to apple. Just last night the screen started to display the blue screen with black verticle lines on it. I called apple and explained to them  the issues that had been ongoing since I purchased the laptop but they said because I was now outside of warantee that any repairs at thia point wouldn't be covered. Fml so glad I spent 2200 on this future proof macbook pro what a joke my sister purchased a toshiba laptop for 300 4 years ago and it still running like a champ. I loved my macbook but at the price I paid I expect it to last longer than 2 years before leaving me high and dry. *** apple??

  • I have Macbook pro A1286 and was wondering how to connect it to the tv and have audio?

Like the title says, I have a 15 inch macbook pro A1286 (from mid 2009) and want to hook it up to a tv. I also know that my particular model of macbook pro doesn't support audio from the mini display.  I know that I will need a mini display to hdmi cable or converter and a hdmi cable if I decide to go for the converter for the video. I've seen both the cord (1 side is hdmi and the other is mini display just to clarify if I'm not using the right terminology) and converter online and any comments on which is better/preferred would be helpful. What kind of cable do I need to get sound to play through the tv? If you could suggest brands (unless all of them are about the same), I would be very grateful. It would be nice to know if the cords have to be specifically from apple just so I don't buy the wrong thing. If there's an easier way (less cords) to do this than hdmi feel free to say something Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it and am eternally grateful.
