Macbook Pro. Plays city street sounds with no apparent source. Browser is not connected and no city cams. Baffled.
It doesn't happen all of the time, but the Macbook Pro will periodically play live street sounds for as long as the session is open. We have checked to see if city cams are being monitored. We are not even using the browser. When I disconnect from wifi it stopped. Turned internet back on and it was still there. Even stranger, a month ago we heard kitchen sounds as in a big restaurant. What the heck?
I have not heard of this. I know there is a Malware for Windows that will open multiple audio streams as soon as you log into windows which causes both the system and internet to slow to a crawl and sounds like someone playing the radio and changing stations but I have not seen or heard of that happening on a mac.
Have you checked the dashboard to make sure there isn't a dashboard app running that is causing this? Try running EtreCheck and posting the result here. It should list some of the apps that are loading in the background.

AndreasUnless things have changed your Lightroom purchase can be used on two PC's, 2 Macs, or one of each. You just need to download the Mac version and install it on the Mac. You should not have to do anything with the PC installation.

I face to this problem since new OS, Yosemite has installed on my mac book
some of my application in macbook pro doesn't work properly with Os Yosemite, such as dictionary (mac dictionary) and MplayerX and etc
For example when I make MplayerX and such application fullscreen the screen become white and just voice of video can be heard or when I use Mac Dictionary (look-up dictionary) in any pages the meaning of work is not appear ( look at the picture above), so i need to directly open dictionary to find the meaning.

When I try to play a dvd on my Macbook Pro I get a box with the message " This is only for activated users. To activate go to preferences,donate" this takes me to Mr. Gecko's facebook page asking me to donate $1.99-$4.99.
Any clues on what this is, and/or how to bypass it? If I can report this to someone? ThanksSure sounds like malware, unles you installed something from a questionable site, then it's still malware but in a payware form as playing DVDs is free on Mac's.
Unless the DVD has software on it perhaps?
Does this work on any movie DVD or is this a special kind of DVD with software on it from someplace? -
Macbook Pro: Play and record sound at the same time

My brother and I have are going to switch go a mac, preferebly to a macbook pro. we used windows so far, but the frustration has grown extremely huge, so it's time to throw off this junk.
We've been working with sound a lot and many times we recorded any sound which played through the computer: that means sound and music from dvds and games or other sources, we couldn't get anywhere else. What we did is simply letting the game or dvd play and record the audio at the same time.
I've testet this functionality in windows via bootcamp on a macbook of friend of mine, but NOT the macbook pro version. It's wasn't really that good as I thought. Sound quality was below what I'd expect.
So here are my questions:
- Does the macbook pro have a better sound card, which enables simultaneos play + record?
- Is good record quality bound to a software I need to use?
Thanks for your replies.Apple don't have separate "sound cards" like PC's , Martin. The necessary hardware is proprietary , and built into the logic boards.
Both of them have high quality combined optical digital input and audio line in, and combined optical digital output and audio line out. You can also attach various USB or firewire audio input and output devices if you wish. So as far as 'quality" goes, it depends what you are playing them through more than anything else. The inherent audio abilities of both are pretty danged good when using Mac specific software. That is why the music industry love 'em!
Or are you just talking about sound quality through the built in speakers, which are, of course severely limited by the amount of space available, though I've heard far worse from many PC notebooks!?

Is it possible to be able to plug my xbox360 into my macbook pro 15 inch retina display with the hdmi cable and then play it on my computer because i have an hdmi cable and dont want to go buy the eye tv for another $150 and if it's not possible does anyone know of another way for me to be able to play my xbox360 on it
No. The HDMI port on the MBP-R is an output port used to send images to an external monitor, not an input port.
As far as I know, the only Mac that has ever had a video input capability is the iMac. Some years' models have had the ability to act as a monitor for another computer. I don't have one, but it doesn't look like current iMacs offer this feature (based on a quick skim of the Apple Store pages). -
I have a problem with Mail on my Macbook Pro. It is configurated with a gmail account, and now I can't access the mail. Is it possible to reboot the account or..? Please help:)
The question mark means the computer cannot find a bootable volumes so can;t do anything, That, combined with annoying sounds, strongly suggests a failed hard drive.
You can ask a "genius" at an Apple Rtail Store to test it but I'm pretty sure the drive is kaput. I'm hoping you had your data backed up. -
MacBook Pro frozen on startup screen with progress bar and then it turns off
Hello, I have a MacBook Pro 15" of early 2012 with a i5 Intel, 4GB of RAM and a 500 GB HD.
I was installing the new suit of Adobe, when suddenly my Mac got frozen, vertical coloured lines appeared and the image on screen went distorted. I had to reboot the Mac by holding the power button until the screen turned off and when I turned it on, the lines appeared again and it itself automatically rebooted. Then the screen (now with no vertical lines) got frozen on the startup grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel for hours with no response.
I tried to follow the steps of the official mac forums like verifying the HD with CMD+R and then Disk Utility, it says everything's fine; the same happens with CMD+S, no errors. I reinstalled Mavericks with the same CMD+R. I already reset the PRAM, SMC and performed a Safe Boot staring up in Single user mode and Verbose Mode and nothing, the same startup screen. I made too thins thing of holding shift until the progress bar appeared. Three days later (Today) I repeated the steps again and finally the verbose mode. Now, when I turn it on, the startup screen appears again (Apple Log and spinning wheel) with a progress bar. When it completes, the Mac turn itself off.

macbook pro mid2012 i7 (here is my e-mail adress : [email protected])You should take it to an Apple store or an AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) Carefully inspect the hinge joint and make sure there is no debris that you can see, you can try carefully sliding some sticky tape thru the joint to clear any loose stuff out. But this sounds like there might be more going on here, and the hinge is something that you do not want to fool with.

I reset safari, emptied my cache, cleared my history, uninstalled and re-installed flash player and nothing has helped. In fact, un/reinstalling flash player worsened the problem. And I cannot update it becuase it says "not recognized".
I do have avast anti-virus: but I can't fix the warnings in it (after I scan, some warnings popup and it wont let me fix it and I have no idea where to find it in the computer itself). Does this have anything to do with it? I need virus protection, so I dont want to get rid of it.
I do not have the money to buy firefox (and it's never worked for me ever anyways).
I know it's not my internet because my dad's pc works great and my sister's mac (for school) loads youtube videos instantly.

Uninstall the anti-virus, they always cause issues on Mac's.
You say you need anti-virus, so install the free ClamXav, it's a program you run as you need it, because 99% of the malware out there is for Windows and won't run on a Mac, thus you can just run ClamXav when you need it on where you need it. Won't bugger up the machine.

Firefox is a free web browser by the open source community, it's very powerful and highly customizable with more add-ons, extensions, personas, themes than any other browser. Some things can be done on Firefox can't be done on any other browser at all. Certainly for someone who is a bit more seasoned to use it fully.

You mentioned your "dad" and you've mentioned a delay loading pages and not YouTube at all.
Are you by any chance the Administrator of the computer? Can you install Firefox if you wanted too just as a experiment or does it ask for a Admin name and password and you can't provide it?
"Nannyware" has the ability to block sites and slow down page draws as it's consulting with the nannyware company if that site is suitable to be loaded on your machine.
If your are the Admin of the machine, then your going to have to methodically go through the fix it list I've generated here to resolve your issue as I cant' tell what's causing your problem specifically behind a screen.
If it's too much for you, take the machine to a local Mac/PC software repair shop and they can fix you up.
I suspect by #12 your machine will be fixed.

Hi, i have a macbook pro version 10.6.8 with boot camp version 3.0.4. I managed to install windows 7 professional x64 bits but however when i tried to install the drivers using the OSX MAC CD using boot camp, it prompt me boot camp x 64 is unsupported with this computer model. Then i tried the method by right click the bootcamp x64 and managed to install the drivers. However, i still couldnt manage access the internet and it prompts me no networking hardware detected...Any idea how can i solve it?
P.S i tried updating my bootcamp version 3.0.4 in mac os with bootcamp x64 version 3.1 exe but it shows me weird wording..

I have a MacBook Pro 15.4" 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo (A1286) - Mid 2009 MC118LL/A and I think the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868 is going out. Should I replace it with the exact same drive or is there a better one that is compatible?
I went to my local Apple store last weekend with a similar issue on my 2007 C2D MBP and they quoted me a price of around £60 (excluding VAT) to replace the optical drive. That's about the same price as the external optical drive a bought for my RMBP.
Alternatively you could just buy a 3rd party external drive if you want to save cash but note that the external Apple superdrive is not compatible with MacBooks with built in optical drives.
