MacBook Pro + Quicktime Pro = None?

Hi there,
Got my MacBookPro 17" lately and only now i realized the QT is not Pro... any ideas?

mmm...none of the computers I purchased came with QTP.
Apple may have from time to time gave QTP to new computer purchases. I said may have, I don't know for sure. This would have been for a promotional purpose and not a on going free-be.
There is only one exception I know of QTP coming free with a purchase from Apple. Final Cut Pro comes with a free key for QTP. And probably will come free with FCP as a on going part of FCP.
As for coming free with other Apple software, I have no idea.

  • Quicktime Pro and JVC .Tod files

I have a JVC Everio and I edit my videos on my Macbook using Quicktime Pro and Final Cut Express HD 3.5. In order to have my videos work on FCE, I need to convert (as many of you may know already). I havent had a problem doing so and lately Ive only been editing 3-5 min clips and quality isnt that much of an importance to me for those small clips as they are only for testing purposes. My question now is, if I want a long (1hr-2hr) video with a nice, clear, HD picture from my .tod files (CBR 1440x1080), what format should I use in Quicktime Pro, to convert the video from a clear .tod file, to a clear "" file??? Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks!!

Just thought I help out with the JVC community who's having the same problem I faced for months. They have actually now released new plugin that works with QT 7.4.x
I just got mail from JVC's escalation agent after months of mail ping-pong. I guess that appropriately make him E-Mail Specialist. You can download the latest Quicktime plugin for version 7.4.x on this URL
    http://www2.cli.co.jp/products/ne/updateqtc_for_gzhd7/qtc3eupdate.htm
I just hope Apple does not release security update and release v7.5.x anytime soon. But that should be JVC's responsibility to keep its customers well updated with its TOD format conversions.
Finally now we can update to QT v7.4.x!! Good luck. And spread the word.
PS: I have yet to see an update on JVC's website about this new plugin release. But I cab confirm that its already lost lots of OSX Everio HD camcorder users.

  • Cannot open file in QuickTime Pro

I recently installed iTunes and QuickTime Pro on my computer. I would like to put some DVD's that I own onto my iPod, but when I put a movie in the DVD drive, I cannot open it through QuickTime Pro. I tried uninstalling both, restarting the computer, re-installing both, restarting, and still I cannot even play a movie through QuickTime Pro.

QuickTime pro doesn't display the MPEG-2 file format (DVD's) without third party software help. Apple sells the MPEG-2 Playback Component for $20 but it does not allow playback of commercial (Hollywood CSS encrypted) DVD's.
Visit the iPod discussions pages for more answers.

  • HT3678 I purchased Quick time pro, went through the steps above. When I go to save the video save is grayed out and it says I need to purchase quicktime pro.

I purchased Quick time pro, went through the steps above to install.

Quicktime Pro will do full screen streaming videos that are compatible with Quicktime installed Codecs. If the video of the Olympics on the website has a specific URL to go straight to the video, then yes, you can call upon it with Quicktime Pro's player and then watch it fullscreen.
If the video of the Olympics was embedded such a way that you can't find the direct link to the video, then the limitation is how the webpage is designed. Thanks to Flip4Mac, there is now also a Windows Media codec you can install for Quicktime as well:
    http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv_download.htm
Although some video software like Elgato's EyeTV don't work with it yet. If you are using Elgato's software, don't download it, and rather download Windows Media Player for Mac OS X:
    http://tinyurl.com/26pxg
if the video is in Windows Media.
If the video is in Realplayer, click on the Realplayer Free button on the upper right corner of:
    http://www.real.com/player/?src=realaudio
You can enter a dummy address and password if you don't want Real's offers.
If it is still a question of not being able to determine the true link to the video, try using different Mac web browsers to see what result you get:

  • I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am

I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am? I need them and don't want naturally to buy them again!!!
    Thank you

Assuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product.  You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store.

  • MacBook Pro Quicktime and HDV

I have my new 2.0ghz MacBook Pro. When I try to open HDV 1080 60i video in quicktime, I get is a white screen and a prompt to download third party plug ins. The audio plays back fine. On my G4 I can open and play the 1080i video fine. Also there is no support to export or playback HDV video of any kind in quicktime pro version 7.04 , in fact there is no HDV at all. I intalled Final Cut 5 on the new MacBook Pro fine even though it's "not supported yet" The HDV video opens fine there although play back is not great. I'm upset that Macintosh sent me my new $3000 computer without the ability to play back the video's that I have edited. So I bring my new computer to clients but have to play back the demo footage on my 3 year old G4. THATS LAME!!! Any Help>>?
    Thanks

Ahh, another new version of an Apple codec.
    Dear Apple,
Please submit your codecs to yourself using the following form:
    http://developer.apple.com/quicktime/qtcdform.html
So that they are *at least listed as existing at all* when opening media created with Apple codecs for which no component is installed, and then being directed to:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html
Which currently lists zero Apple codecs.

  • Macbook pro 15 inch non user upgradeable now

Why did apple stop selling 15 inch Macbook Pro that is non user upgradeable concerning memory and hard drive size ?

Because they did. They want everyone to use a large phone/pad with attached keyboard and separate screen.

  • HT204384 SD Card will not mount on Macbook Pro Mid 2012 (non-retina), tried everything

I am trying to use a PNY 4GB SD Card on my Macbook Pro Mid-2012 (non-retina), but I cannot get it to mount or for the Macbook to even see it's there.  I read some people had success slightly pulling it out, pushing it in faster, cleaning the port, etc. which I have tried all of these, but to no avail.
    Anybody have an idea?
    Thanks,
    -Justin B.

Had problems reading SD cards after a Mountain Lion update. Try this XQuartz solution that fixed this for me. I'm using a 13" MBP mid-2012. All you have to do is install this programme and re-insert your SD card.
XQuartz no longer comes with new Macbooks, only X11.
See this support page from Apple on where you can download XQuartz.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5293?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
You can download Xquartz directly from here:
    http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/
This should be the most up to date version. If not check for updates once you have downloaded it.
Simply re-insert your SD card and voila!

  • MacBook Pro (summer 2012) non-retina display and SSD upgrade?

Looking to upgrade to a SSD in my MacBook Pro (summer 2012) non-retina display. Are there ones that work better in a MacBook Pro?

In theory at least, any SSD will work fine. There are some additional considerations to make, however. It mostly revolves around updating the drive's firmware. Many SSD companies do not offer Mac-friendly ways to perform this procedure. From the list Clinton provided, you can drop Corsair and Samsung immediately for this reason.
I would not consider OWC, Intel, or any SSD that uses a Sandforce chipset because of spotty reliability. Yes, improvements have been made, but I still do not trust them. Of the dozens of SSDs I've owned and deployed over the last 2-3 years, the only ones to need replacement were ones with Sandforce.
That leaves Crucial, Plextor, and OCZ. The former two basically use the same Marvell chipset. While I can't speak for Plextor, Crucial's firmware updates are OS agnostic. You simply down an .iso file, burn it to CD, boot from that disc, and perform the update. It works perfectly on a Mac. Doing a quick check of Plextor's support site, it seems the proedure is the same.
For OCZ, I'm only focusing on the Vector and Vertex 4. The former is brand new, having just hit the market within the last couple weeks. If you're looking to buy right now, I would stick with the Vertex 4 as it's a more proven commodity. OCZ has created a suite of tools that you copy to a USB flash drive. You can boot from it, and it takes you to what I think is a very heavily modified Linux distribution. From there, you can do a firmware update, check drive health, and perform a SATA secure erase to return the drive to its "out of the box" state. To get the most from the tools, you should have a USB mouse plugged in. Also, firmware updates require the use of a hard-wired Ethernet cable; you can't use wireless.
Bottom line - for an SSD upgrade, stick with Crucial, Plextor, or OCZ as they are the most Mac-friendly (aside from original Apple parts, of course).

  • What happened to quicktime Pro on my Macbook (ie. it is now useless)

    Hi,
So upon completing a very simple imovie project (30s, 5 clips), I tried to 'share' it and save it as a decent sized quicktime file.
There are no video options avaliable under the expert settings....just audio setings! And, this happens no matter what resolution I choose to start my project (mp4-1080).
    Can anyone explain this (apple?)
Is this due to me running imovie on my new Macbook?
further, even if I save the DV file, QUICKTIME PRO IS UNABLE TO EXPORT TO ANY SPECIFICATIONS OTHER THAN "email" and ".mac" (brutally small H264 andas the huge .DV file). As in Quicktime pro is useless.
    What gives???
much thanks for all any help.
I'll be ahppy to provide any extra info as needed (screen captures if you don't believe me!)
Edit: I tried opening quictime under Rosetta -no dice..

    resolved

  • MacBook Air, MacBook Pro Retina, or Non- Retina for academic high school student?

I will be going into high school in September and am thinking of getting a MacBook for school. This is my first computer except for the family PC desktop. I am in all academic classes, and am taking business and exploring technology ( designing and building things) I would use the laptop for schoolwork as well as gaming ( nothing too intense, just stuff like portal and Garry's mod), internet, iTunes, and ilife. It will be a gift from at least 7 people, so price is important, but not a huge factor. I think a 13" screen in perfect for my needs. Would a MacBook Pro Retina, a MacBook Pro non- retina, or a MacBook Air be the best choice for me?

If you use DVDs and CDs more than often (most people don't) then go for the MacBook Pro nonretina. I would go for the MacBook Air or pro retina because their graphics cards are much better then get a $40 usb DVD drive to load movies and other content. The MacBook Air and MacBook Pro retina also have "flash storage" and haswell chips making them super fast at opening files and applications and boosts oversell performance. You sound like you're not going to be doing any editing or graphics intense work so I would recommend the MacBook Air with 8gb ram and however much storage as you want. For around $100 more you could get the MacBook Pro retina that has the amazing display and better graphics. In the end, if the retina display would be the only real upgrade for you and price is in consideration, I would recommend the MacBook Air (also apple usually releases new model macbook airs in June so you could get one now or just wait. I would wait).

  • Quicktime PRO NON-Destructive / Unedited videos. Changes won't really apply

    Hi
Although my experience in video editing I still find this behaviour hard to understand:
There are some .MOV videos I edit in Quicktime PRO just because they don't require some big editing and save on the file themselves as i already have a backup copies.
But when it's time to upload them on a website it's like the editing was never done.
For example if I cut 30 secs of video on a 1m30s video, on the site still appears 1.30 secs length,
If i open back again the same video in Quicktime from my computer this shows it up edited.
I checked with webmaster and everything is alright on his side.
So what I suppose, is that Quicktime doesn't really cut but rather hide the original footage, showing just the edited.
This can be also confirmed by the fact that both files on my computer and on the site have the exact File Size, although their different length in minutes.
But strange how there is no "revert to original" menu function on Quicktime PRO.
Can anybody say something more technical about this ?
Trust me this bug make waste people entire DAYS, not just time. Thanks.

It doesn't make people familiar with QT waste even minutes, since "Save As" has been around since Moses first edited a movie. Trim/cut/etc., to your original. Save as, self contained, new file name. Keep or get rid of original - if cut/trimmed don't save on exit when asked. No need for revert as you have the new file edited and the source, unedited.
