Macbook Pro Ram configuration

Probably right in front of me but... Can I install a 1 GB and 2 GB chip in the Macbook Pro (New).
Do I have to use 2 chips of the same capacity.

How new? The Core Duo supports up to 2 GB (2 x 1 GB). The Core 2 Duo supports up to 3 GB (2 GB + 1 GB). The 'Santa Rosa' C2D supports up to 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) - those have CPU clock speeds of 2.2, 2.4, or 2.6 GHz, and in those 2 GB + 1 GB is fine.
So the answer to your question is most likely yes.
Hope this helps...

  • Using 13" Macbook pro ram in a 15" macbook pro

Hey Community I hope everyone is doing well.
I just put my 2009 13" 2.53 ghz macbook pro ram in my new 2011 15" Macbook pro 2.0 ghz.
I bought the 15" with 4 gb of ram so i upgraded it to 8 gb which i had in the 13".
The 15" stock ram has four nodes on it, while the 13" ram has 8 nodes on it. However it was a great fit.
    Now my question:
are there any longevity/performance issues i should be concerned about using this ram?
I'm a heavy ram user in logic studio so the ram is definitely needed, i'm just wondering if i should be concerned enough to buy another 8gb's from crucial.
    Thanks!!!

I apologize guys i didnt even specify the ram that i put in!
The ram is 1066 ghz ddr 3 also purchased from crucial.
The 15" takes 1333MHz. At the very minimum, you are creating a bottleneck. Buy new RAM.

  • Macbook pro retina configuration questions

Hello to the community. I am on the market for a macbook pro retina 15 .I am student at university. So my main uses are word, excel, powerpoint ,web surfing, presentations and some gaming . Also i am interresting in amature photo editing. I want to be able to run some games in my free time like CoD 4 and WoW and some new (?) maybe. To be clear gaming is not my priority ofc but the macbook will be used as main computer at the moment. Cause of my budget i am wondering what is more usefull for me: upgrading to 2,6 Ghz or 16 gb ram. To be honest i want both but it's difficult. It's a a major investing for me and planning to keep it for  at least 3 years. Opinions? Keep in mind that ill use an external hard disk so 256 flash storage is not an issue.
    Thank you in advance

I personally don't think you need either of those upgrades. I currently use mine for those exact reasons plus more cpu intensive programs and it works fine at the lowest configuration.

  • I want to upgrade my MacBook pro ram

I want to upgrade my MacBook pro 17'' ram. I have 2X2 GB 1066 MHz and I want to go to 2X4GB but I can't find any with 1066 MHz I found only 1333 MHz. Will it work on my MacBook pro late 2009 unibody 3,06 Ghz Core 2 Duo

do not use anything other than the exact specs.
It MAY work with the 1333MHz (the 1333 will be downclocked) but you will have problems VERY probably.
You have to replace the 2X2 with 2X4.
Buy the best there is: Crucial, OWC: the price is very low. And yes the right spec is for sale everywhere.
Find a respectable internet seller in your area, and buy it: but research the Crucial and/or OWC sites for the exact specification, they have configurators where you put in your computer model.
Replacing is easy, you have to have the right screwdriver, there are 3 screws that are longer, remember where they are.

  • Can I upgrade my MacBook Pro RAM to 16Gb eventhough Apple advises 8GB max upgrade? Will it damage my computer if I do upgrade to 16Gb?

    Hello All MacPro users,
I have a Macbook pro 2011 15" and since I am into composing music I use Logic Pro and Native Instruments which require quite some RAM accessing & loading complex samples and effects. I was wondering if I can upgrade the ram to 16gb or even more eventhough Apple indicates 8gb as max RAM upgrade. I read some contadictory information. some say that Macbook pro will support 16gb. What if I upgrade will it damage my system?
    Appreciating your supports

as Kappy says " you can "
have a look at this pic - my 2011 Macbook Pro with 16GB.....doing the upgrade yourself if you're technically capable will not damage it.

  • Can I use my old Macbook Pro Ram in the New Macbook Pro (late 2008)

I have 2, 2 gig DDR2 sticks of ram in my macbook pro. I wanted to know if they would work in the new macbook pro (late 2008)? I know the new one uses DDR3 - What would be the downside of using DDR2 in a DDR3 macbook? Would the graphics cards work to their potential? Thanks!

No. The DDR2 RAM in your older computer is not the same as the DDR3 RAM used in the new ones. There are significant differences between them not the least of which is pin count.

  • MacBook pro RAM to new iMac ???

    G'day,
Does anyone know if MB Pro RAM is compatible with the new iMacs.
I know it is with the previous iMac's, but I can't find out off the OWC Wesite???
    Cheers.

The latest iMacs are 800MHz, I think the Macbook Pro is 667MHz.
You can check this in About this Mac, is shows on the dialog box the bus speed of the ram.

  • Can MacBook Pro Ram fit in a white 13" MacBook?

    Hello there,
I have a Macbook Pro 15" (mid-2010) and my wife has a white Macbook 13" (mid to late 2008).  I'm upgrading my 4GB ram to 8GB.  Does anyone know if my ram can fit into my wifes MacBook?
    Thanks,
    Lorne

No, your Mac book Pro uses 204pin 1066mhz PC3-8500 RAM
The model 4,1 (Early 2008) White MacBook uses 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM

  • Upgraded Mid 2012 MacBook Pro RAM - Issues

    Hi,
I recently upgraded the RAM on my Mid 2012 15" MacBook Pro from 4GB which it came with to 16GB. Now I checked online that 16GB was the maximum reported, stable RAM that MacBooks could run so stuck to that. For no reason other than greed, silly numbers and additional resource needed when doing some development work I went for the full 16GB. I did the check on the Crucial website and purchased myself two 8GB chips. Once they arrived in the post I fitted them and being a qualified electrical engineer working with surfcae mount stuff I made sure I did it all wih the anti-static crap for extra safety. Long story short, I seem to be getting kernel panics now and the damned thing keeps crashing. Now, I have thought about switching thw sticks about and seeing if it is just one of the sticks causing the issue.
Just wondered whether anyone else had any issues, or could provide some words of wisdom of how to check 'dodgy sticks'?
    Cheers

Take a look at the specs:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/sp649
    and:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.3- 15-mid-2012-unibody-usb3-specs.html
OWC determined that it would run with 16 GB; if I wanted to exceed Apple's recommended specs, I would absolutely stick with the company that tested the RAM and guarantees it - in this case OWC.
The usual troubleshooting is to test each module separately and/or in conjustion with one of the original modules.
    Edit:
is yours one with a retina display? (If so, see the note on this page:)

  • Use Macbook Pro RAM in iMac?

Hi, so I just upgraded my macbook Pro 15 inch (pre-unibody) to 4GB of RAM and thus have two 1GB sticks laying around. We have an iMac that serves as the family computer, and so I was wondering if I could use the PC-5300 RAM in the iMac. the iMac is a early 2008 aluminum 2.4GHz mac and uses RAM with 800MHZ bus speed.
Will the 667MHZ RAM from my Macbook Pro work? (better to have 2GB than 1GB right?)

We've been waiting for a Guinea Pig, oop's I mean a Test Subject to come along.
While some of the time it works the other way around 800MHz in place of 667MHz ram, the problem here is that even if it does it would slow the memory bus down to the slower 667MHz speed.
Truly you are better off sticking to the correct speed for your system!

  • MacBook vs MacBook Pro RAM

I have just got a new MBP and plan to replace the 2x1gb of official Apple RAM in it with 2x2gb of some other RAM that I already own (and used in my previous MBP, now dead).
I'm wondering if I can use the 2x1gb of official Apple MBP RAM in my friend's 2.1ghz Mac Book, bought last year. It currently has 1gb of the original installed Apple RAM, as 2x512mb.
Anybody know if the Mac Book Pro RAM should be compatible with a Mac Book?

the macbooks and the pros use the same kind of ram - should be fine.
    they both use 667MHz DDR2 memory (PC2-5300)

  • Macbook Pro RAM error

I am looking forward to upgrade my RAM to 16gb on my Macbook Pro 13 i7 2.7 early 2011. I have a 2012 Mac mini that has 1600 ram. I saw a lot of forums that says the Macbook Pro will just run the 1600 rams at 1333 speeds. But when I install the rams from the mini, which works fine in the mini, got me a ram error (beep 3 times) and cannot startup.

You cannot install the 1600 MHz RAM in your computer. Use RAM that meets the established specs for the computer.

  • Macbook Pro RAM

    hello guys,
    need your suggestion
is the MacBook Pro Mid 2012 upgradable to SSD drives?
and tell me which is the best brand RAM i can buy ,is it safe to go for 3rd party RAM and what should i be careful on buying these 3rd party like ram pin size or something ?
i have seen apple uses HYNIX RAM's which comes out of the box.
    thanks in advance
    Peace

    NJ29,
yes, the Mid 2012 MacBook Pro models can be upgraded to have an internal SSD drive.
You can use third-party RAM as long as it meets the requirement for your model. If you plan on owning your MacBook Pro for several years, then you might consider OWC’s RAM, since it has a lifetime advance replacement warranty. Their RAM for a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro can be found here.
