MacBook Pro restarting after unplugging a wired Xbox 360 Controller

Everytime I unplug or connect the wired controller to a virtual machine, my mid 2012 Macbook Pro crashes and restarts. I have no idea what could be causing this. Has anybody experienced this before?

I've found a solution to this problem, (although rather unfavorable) I simply removed all traces of  360 controller plugin that I downloaded from http://tattiebogle.net/index.php/ProjectRoot/Xbox360Controller/OsxDriver. I can no longer play games with it, but unplugging the controller no longer crashers my computer. If anyone has a solution to this issue, please reply to this post.

  • Wired xbox 360 controller used for PC

I have tried literally everything I can think of, I searched it, and a resounding solution were these steps:
    1) Download the drivers from "Can't post links yet"
    2) Choose Gaming > Xbox 360 Controller for Windows > Windows 7 64 bit > English.Don't run the drivers.  Save them to a folder. (Or Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows depending on your controller)
    3) Right click the Xbox360_64Eng file in the folder you downloaded to and click "create shortcut"
    4) Right click the shortcut you created. Select properties.
    5) On the compatibility tab in properties, click "Run this program in compatibility mode" ChooseWindows Server 2008 Service Pack 1 as the compatibility mode. Apply setting and click ok.
    6) Right Click on the shortcut and select "Run as administrator"
    7) With your controller plugged in go to Device Manager.  You should see Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class. It located under Mice and other pointing if you do, you have arrived. If you don't, try this.
Continue only if you don't see Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class in Device Manager
    8) Right click the unknown device that shows a problem.
    9) Update Driver Software > Browse My computer for Driver Software > Let Me Pick from a List of Drivers
    10) Choose Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class > XBOX 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows
I have tried the steps in order countless times. tried many different compatability modes, and to no avail am I able to get the "Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class" to show up. so I continue through the next 3 steps (8-10) and
the option listed in step 10 is not available. and I have been trying to fix this since 7:00 AM this morning.....

    Hi,
Are we download the driver from the following link?
    http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows
Where did you find the steps for reference?
For how to configure XBox 360 controller, please check the below article:
Connect an Xbox 360 wired controller to your PC

  • My MacBook Pro restarts after it's been idle for an hour

I'm new to daily Mac use, but I think I have my settings correct. My laptop is kept plugged in at work - never runs on battery. In my Energy Saver system prefs, I have Computer Sleep and Display Sleep set to Never on both Power Adapter and Battery, all options (hard disk sleep, wake for network access, reduce brightness, start up after power failure) are unchecked. There is nothing set up in the Schedule area to turn on or off at specific times.
Every time the computer is idle for more than an hour (when I'm at lunch or in a meeting), when I come back the computer has restarted itself. Not gone to sleep, or shut down, but completely restarted.
Is there some other setting I'm missing that's making this happen? Although I try to remember to save all my work before I leave just in case, every so often I forget, and I'm getting sick of losing work (or even just losing system state and having to restart all my programs, reopen all my files, etc.)
Someone on the apple.stackexchange forum suggested checking my console log, but when I posted the results I didn't get any comments except that maybe it had overheated. But it never restarts randomly, which I would think would happen if it had overheated. It's always tied to the idle time.
Here's the console log for the most recent event; can anyone tell me what's going on?

Doesn't sound like it.  It sounds like you're being logged-off.
Does your Mac go through the complete Restart cycle -- black screen, gray and/or blue screen momentarily, startup chime, etc?
If you're not sure, do a Restart just to watch the process; the next time the problem occurs, see if it's the same.
You need to know which it is, as these will have very different causes, and different places to look for a solution.

  • Macbook Pro restart after waking from sleep

    Hi all,
Since I've installed Mountain Lion (10.8.2) on my 13" Late 2011 Macbook Pro I've been experiencing a quite annoying problem. The computer, which is connected to an external monitor through Thunderbolt to HDMI will restart (Sometimes to a gray screen with a progress bar) after waking from sleep. I've done some research and it would appear as though the problem is related to the display driver.
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this peculiar problem or if there's a quick solution.
    Thanks!

Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box, other solved threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • Using your MacBook Pro as a Router For the Xbox 360

Not sure how many of you guys have 360s, but I've written up a guide to use your MBP as a connection point for the 360. Basically it involves sharing your Airport with the Ethernet port. Here goes.
How to Use a MacBook Pro as an Xbox 360 Internet Hub v.01
This guide is copyright 2006 Jonathan Ferguson.
If you would like to host it, email me at the address below.
All trademarks are copyright their respective owners.
I am not responsible for anything that happens that may screw up your Mac, 360, Internet, or anything else.
By reading further you accept full responsibility for any damages or troubles that occur as a result
of your using this guide. K?
Welcome! I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and did not feel like shelling out 130 dollars for the
    360s Wireless Adapter.
Thus I set out to find a solution and it was my shiny new mac that came to the rescue.
I'm positive this can be done in Windows, but I've not taken the time (yet) to test it.
I think it's very simple to follow, but I do recommend that only those with patience and a will to learn attempt the setup.
Also if you don't know how to reset your router, I wouldn't recommend it either. But for the rest, on we go.
You will need these things for this adventure:
    Broadband Internet Access
    1 Xbox 360
1 CrossOver Cat 5 (NOT Patch, so NOT the one that came with the 360)
1 Macbook Pro (the regular Macbook may work, I haven't tested it)
1 Router with wireless and wired connections or 2 Routers linked together, one wired, one wireless.
Plug the cross cable into the ethernet port on the mac and the ethernet port on the Xbox 360. Turn both on.
Go to your system blade on the 360 into the network settings and go to the Sharing area of the
    System Preferences on the MBP.
On the MBP make sure that your Airport Extreme connection is being shared with the Built-In Ethernet
(check the box next to Built In Ethernet and hit the start button at the top.).
Go into Network under System Preferences on the MBP.
Pick Built In Ethernet in the Drop Down menu. Write down the Subnet Mask and IP Address for the adapter,
    you'll need that later.
Contact your router by punching it's IP into an internet browser. (I.E: 192.168.1.1).
This is usually the default IP for any router, so if you don't know what it is, try that one.
It'll also ask you for the password and username which are usually:
    Login: admin
    Pass: password
    Login:
    Pass: admin
    or
    Login: admin
    Pass:
Once you're in find the DNS Addresses (DNS 1 and 2)
(under LAN not WAN if they're different) and write those down. Now it's time to go back to the Xbox.
In the settings tab you'll find a lot of stuff has been set to automatic.
This will not help you, so start changing the things to manual.
Once you get in there, input each piece of information like so:
IP Address: Have a look at the address of the Ethernet Adapter.
Copy it digit for digit only make the last number lower than the last number of the Ethernet Adapter.
(I.E if the Adapter is 111.211.13.5, make the 360 111.211.13.4)
Subnet: This is the Subnet Mask you got from the Ethernet Adapter.
Gateway: This is the IP address of the Ethernet Adapter (NOT the address of your router)
DNS: These are the DNS numbers you got from your router.
Now, before you allow the Xbox 360 to test the connection, make sure that you have a
wireless internet connection coming in on the mac, and that you're sharing it with the ethernet card.
Also, though I haven't tested it yet, keep the Ethernet card on DHCP. Putting it on manual might mess things up.
Et Voila! Let the 360 run the tests.
There's one test that'll take extra long to do but don't fret, it eventually goes through and works splendidly.
I'll update this as I see fit, and feel free to email me at: [email protected] to add/correct/contribute.

Well that's nice and all, but why not just spend the 50 bucks on a router? Also, why do you need a crossover cable? Modern operating systems do not require crossovers anymore.

  • Using Macbook pro as an External HD for XBox 360 Slim 4G? Possible

Currently i own an xbox 360 Slim 4G model. I also own a copy of a game that needs about 16g of memoery so i cant store it on the xbox. Wondering if its possible to connect my xbox to my macbook pro and store the game on the computers hd and have the xbox 360 recognize it and still function through my xbox and tv. In essence as an external drive while still having full function. Is it Possible? Bridging perhaps? Help me out?!?!?!?

    No.

  • How to use a wired xbox 360 controller on a Yoga 10?

So I have an otg cable and a wired 360 controller but nothing happens when I plug it in, the light flashes and the tablet acknowledges that I've plugged something in but nothing else happens.
I tried using a gamepad app, usb/bt joystick, but it kept telling me something about rooting and downloading roms...is there an easy way to play my android games with a gamepad?
I do have other usb gamepads

I have the same problem. It looks like Lenovo have not implemented the standard Xbox Controller mappings for some reason. If I download and run USB/BT Joystick Centre then I can get it the tablet to recognise the controller but the mappings are all screwed up and I can only get the left stick working, not the right stick. My BT Madcatz Ctrlr works fine though and being BTLE the battery lasts for ages between charges.
I hope Lenovo sort this out, it's probably a really easy fix.

  • Wired xbox 360 controller with Mac (steam)

I am new to steam but is there a way to have a 360 controller plug into your Mac via USB (do u need a special commuter controller or a adapter?) and use it to play games with steam? Also with steam can u plug in a 360 headset to talk or even get a Bluetooth for the computer to work with steam, any help would be great.

This guy has made a great driver package that works with both the 360 wired and wireless+receiver controllers: http://tattiebogle.net/index.php/ProjectRoot/Xbox360Controller/OsxDriver. After install, there's a preference pane in System Preferences which you can configure and test the controllers. However, the 360 wired headset (the one that plugs into the controller) doesn't work. I dunno about the wireless 360 headset (the one that directly connects to the receiver) but I imagine it wouldn't.
As for other headsets with Steam, any microphone that the system recognizes will work. Go into Steam's settings and configure which mic you want to use with Steam. Unfortunately (this is my major annoyance with Valve's stuff on both Mac and Windows) you cannot configure voice to come through another speaker. So if your headset has a speaker, it won't be used. Voice will come out the same speakers as the game's sound. Annoying.

  • OS 10.8 MacBook crashes, restarts after unplug, sleep, then wake

Have a new MBP, just upgraded to 10.8. Now, every time I unplug my machine, close the lid, then open it later, I get the white screen of death and the laptop restarts. Any ideas? Here's the error report afterward:

My daughter's Macbook exhibited the same problem after upgrade to Mt. Lion.  The setting for the power management (pmset) hibernate was incorrect.  It was set to 5 when it should be either 0, 3, or 25.  We set her's to 3 (default for Macbook) and it has been working fine ever since.  As always YMMV.

  • I have a 'panic Kernel' error screen appear after my MacBook Pro restarted after installing updates

    Hi,
I have just finished installing new updates, and in order to complete, I had to restart my laptop, as I did so, an error screen came up with all types of jargon on it, mainly, 'panic' and 'kernel', I can not do anything with my mac now, any ideas on how to resolve?

If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot.
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is on a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic log under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the panic report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

  • WIRED xbox 360 controller will NOT recognise

hey, i have been searching EVERYWHERE for a solution for this and i am still unsure as to what is going on.
i have a wired controller, when i plug it in it comes up as unknown device, i have tried everything such as installing the drivers from microsoft, right clicking on the "unknown device" and trying to "update driver" and click "browse
my computer for driver software" then "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". it does not however come up with a list to pick from, instead it just shows a box of models and the only one i can select is "unknown device".
i have uninstalled multiple times, restarted, you name it.
i am on windows 7 and pc is more than capable of running every game.
im coming on here as a last resort before i crack the shits and run it over with my car.
    thanks.

ok im now 85% sure its the controller, must be dodgey, wont work on the old mans computer either
thanks for the help anyway guys :)
According to your description, it won't work even on another PC, seems mostly a hardware issue, I would suggest you contact a vender or replace with a new one.

  • How can i use my xbox 360 controller to play games on my macbook pro?

I would like to use my wired Xbox 360 controller to play COD 4 on my macbook pro. PLEASE HELP ME!!

In the mac app store check out joystick mapper, its pretty awesome.

  • XBox 360 controller doesn't work in game in Outlast

I got Outlast, that new horror game, and a Wolf Among Us. I installed Tattleboogie's drivers and using an wired xbox 360 controller (original). In Wolf Among Us it works fine, in the Tattleboogie's settings everything shows as working with responce on every button, but in Outlast, even though the controller is identified and shows up in settings and in the menus as if it were working, it simply doesn't. I get no responce from presses at all.
Also, I've tried Game Companion and Joystick Mapper, but those just doesn't work. I can get some movement, but it's irregular and doesn't correspond properly. So I do NOT want to use that kind of software, and shouldn't need to since Outlast should have full controller support and obviously recognize it.
So anyone know anything about this?
I'm running on a Macbook Pro 13" with Mavericks installed.
